Previously:

Who do I choose? How do I choose?

Itachi was my first love. He killed his clan, yet left Sasuke and me alive. That must have meant something. When I had nightmares, Itachi was the one who comforted me. He took me to the top of Hokage Mountain and laid there with me until I fell asleep. Then he carried me back to our home and no one suspected anything.

But I made a promise to Neji that I would stay with him forever. He was the one that found me when I first came to Konoha. He showed me a kindness and comfort I never thought I'd feel again. I can never forget that. And, like Itachi, Neji carried me up to Hokage Mountain until I fell asleep.

If I choose Itachi, Neji will be heartbroken and I will have broken my promise.

But if I choose Neji, Itachi would be heartbroken and our past would not have counted for anything.

 

Now:

Neji and Itachi waited patiently at the base of Hokage Mountain for Kagome's decision. They both knew that Kagome's decision would change both of their lives forever.

Thoughts and flashbacks ran through both of their heads.

 

Kagome…what will your choice be?

You promised me we'd be together forever. But your heart partly belongs to Itachi. Your history together is something that cannot be forgotten.

I'll forgive you if you choose Itachi. I'll move on with my life and find another to love. No, I can never love another. My heart belongs to you, and you only.

You promised me your heart and, in return, I promised you mine. Do you remember that time Kagome?

 

Flashback

“I love you Neji.”

 

“I love you too Kagome.”

 

Kagome turned her face away from Neji and drew small circles on his chest.

 

Neji immediately noticed something was wrong and cupped Kagome's chin in his hand.

“What is it koi?”

 

“I…”

 

“Hmm?”

 

“My heart is yours Neji.”

 

Neji pulled Kagome closer to him and kissed her softly on the lips.

“You are also the one who has my heart Kagome. You always have and you always will.”

 

Kagome's eyes filled with tears as she rested her forehead against Neji's.

“Thank you Neji.”

End Flashback

 

Kagome-chan…what are you thinking now?

You've always told me that you'd make the choice that would make the most people happy. But I want you to make the choice that makes you the happiest, my love.

You deserve to be happy, after all that's happened to you.

Whatever you choose, I, Uchiha Itachi, promise to make you happy, as I did in the past.

 

Flashback

“Ah!!!”

A five-year old Kagome bolted up from her bed screaming.

 

Running footsteps came closer to Kagome's room as her shouji screen door was shoved open.

“Kagome-chan!”

 

Kagome launched herself at an nine-year old Itachi.

“Tachi-kun!”

 

“What happened Kagome-chan?!”

 

“I…I had a nightmare…”

 

“Don't worry Kagome-chan. Do you want me to stay with you tonight until you fall asleep? That way, we'll be sure that you won't have anymore nightmares, okay?”

 

“Okay!”

Kagome hugged Itachi tightly and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

“Thank you Tachi-kun.”

 

“You're welcome Kagome. And, I promise you, no matter what happens, I will make sure you're happy.”

End Flashback

 

My heart is forever yours Kagome.
