InuYasha Fan Fiction / Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Adventures with the samurai girl ❯ Memories ( Chapter 5 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

*Shinta's death was the hardest thing I have ever written. She was my favorite character, my own. This is dedicated to her and Yoko. May they rest in peace. Lets pray that Sesshomaru and Inuyasha get revenge. Oh and just for the record they never gave Sesshomaru or Inuyasha's dad a name so I gave him one- Inushihaisha*

Chapter 5: Memories

Villager1: its a demon in human form!

Villager2: its lord Inushihaisha!

The one they called Inushihaisha was walking through a village one day when he came across a small girl.

The girl was sleeping in a field of flowers her red hair blending with the red flowers around her. It seemed that she knew nothing of the wars and battles around her. It pleased the lord to see humans like that. A villager was walking by when he noticed the demon was looking at the child.

Villager3: thats Shinta, her parents disappeared one day and haven't returned. we assume they're dead, so we all take care of her.

Inushihaisha: hm...I see

Villager3: She's a very interesting child, doesn't seem to fear anything. You should talk with her me lord

Inushihaisha: Very well, when she wakes will you have her meet me under the ancient oak tree on the hill?'

Villager3: Certianly me lord!

Lord Inushuhaisha began to walk along the road towards the ancient tree. He enjoyed sitting under its shady base. It helped him relax at times. It wasn't long before he heard the footsteps of someone running towards him. As he looked back he saw that it was the same girl he had seen sleeping in the field.

Shinta: Tokai said you wished to see me.

Inushihaisha: I did, did he wake you?

Shinta: No. the fairies that live in the field were whispering of a demon in human form wanting me to see him so I could be his midday snack.

Inushihaisha: And you still came. How do you know it isn't the truth.

Shinta: You don't look like you've killed a human before.

Inushihaisha: Thats a good observation, if I didn't know any better I'd say that you had a bit of demon blood in you.

The two climbed the rest of the hill and sat beneath the oak tree. The demon and the girl took turns telling stories about themselves and their family. They even started discussing what was happening far away from the village which surprised Inushihaisha.

Inushihaisha: My wife is a human. My youngest son has both my blood and his mothers in him. His brother resents him because of it. Tell me, what is it like for you to live in a village with no one to care for you?

Shinta: Its alright. The villagers look after me sometimes so I'm really not alone. You said that your son was half, is he hated by other humans as well as demons?

Inushihaisha: Yes he does. No matter how hard his mother and I try no one will come near him. Actually thats why I wanted to talk with you. Would you like to come back with me and meet both of them?

Shinta: Alright.

Inushihaisha: Thank you- uh....there's a demon nearbly.

Shinta and Inushihaisha looked around. Shinta suddenly gasped causing Inushihaisha to turn to where she was looking. He saw the reason she had gasped. The village was on fire. The two of them ran down towards the village as fast as they could. By the time they reached the village most of the villagers had been slaughtered. In the center of the village stood two demons. One wore a red ninja suit, the other wore a solid black outfit. The ninja was taller than the other. He had dark black hair that reached his chin. The other, a fox demon, wore a pure white outfit that slightly resembled the clothes of her comrade. Her hair was a bright silver and her eyes were a golden yellow that looked cold and menacing.

Daito: Ah, looks like we might be able to have some fun after all.

Yoko: This is your definition of fun? I consider it orders that must be carried out.

Daito: Thats the problem with you Yoko, you need to enjoy life more. Experience the thrill of murder. Especially after those cursed demon hunters almost killed you.

Yoko: Lets just get this over with.

Inushihaisha knew that the demons had seen him. He knew he was putting the child in danger. Before he went to fight the two demons he had told Shinta to stay hidden. A lot of good that did him. She had followed him, he could smell her scent not too far behind him. He tried to pay no mind to it. Instead he drew his sword and attacked Daito. The demon managed to block it just in time before it completely severed his left arm.

Daito: You must be the dog demon that has a passion for the humans. How disgusting, and to think you're as strong as I am. It makes me sick.

Inushihaisha: I'd rather protect the humans than see them slaughtered just to see them die.

Daito: You should watch them die, every moment of their failing bodies is purely delightful. But I'll slay you before I kill your little friend.

Thats when Yoko noticed the little girl behind a tree watching the fight. She failed to notice her before because she was too busy watching Daito constantly talk about taking human life. She wouldn't do it if it wasn't an order from Naraku. But even he wasn't in charge. He was just the frontman. The one behind the whole operation was a mystery to her, and probably to Daito as well. But hearing Daito talk of killing the girl made her furious. The girl was only about five years old.

Daito: Wait I have a better idea. Yoko you take care of the girl and I'll get this human loving fool

Yoko made no answer, but began to walk towards the girl. Meanwhile Daito kept Inushihaisha busy by attacking him with full force. Shinta saw the demon coming through the corner of her eye and began to step away from her as she faced the menacing look of the fox demon's eyes. But she tripped over a body and fell to the ground. As she looked upon the face of the body she had tripped on she recognized him. It was Tokai, the old man who had helped care for her. In his hand was a katana. Without thinking of what might happen she picked up the sword and struggled to keep it off the ground. The weight of it was great. She wasn't able to hold it up very long so she waited for the demon to close.

Yoko: You know you can't win against me. Its futile to fight, and you can barely hold that sword.

Daito: Yoko quit talking and kill the damn kid!

Yoko hesitated. Then drew her sword ready to strike. As she went to make the painful blow, Inushihaisha appeared infront of the child. Yoko was shocked to see such a thing. A demon giving his life in a futile attempt to save a child who would soon be killed anyways. The blade of the sword went through the demon, stopping right infront of Shinta's eyes. Inushihaisha fell to the ground. With the last of his strength he whispered something into Shinta's ears and handed her a sheathed sword. Then he died.

Daito: That fool, willing to risk his life to save a human, how pathetic. Finish her off Yoko!

Yoko made no sign of movement. Her mind was replaying what had just happened. And each result was the same. Was it possible for humans and demons to live together in peace, to be able to protect one another.

Daito became annoyed. He hated to wait. He drew his sword and attacked the girl. He then turned to Yoko as the girl fell to the ground, beginning to die.

Daito: Why didn't you finish her!?! You could of easily killed that weak little human!

Just then Naraku appeared. He had witnessed the whole thing. How for once Yoko hesitated in taking a human life. It surprised him to see such a strong demon as Yoko become vulnerable over one human child. Naraku drew his sword and called to the fox demon.

Naraku: Why, Yoko, why didn't you finish her? Have you become soft? Weak like the humans you kill.

Yoko remained silent.

Naraku: So its true. What a pity, you could of been a great partner.

Naraku took his sword and cut Yoko in half so fast that she didn't even see it coming. Naraku then turned his back and Daito did the same as they both walked away. When they were far gone Yoko moved. She had been seperated from her waist down and didn't have much longer to live. Then she noticed that the girl she had hesitated to kill was still breathing, but barely. With the last of her strength and energy she transfered her soul into the girls body, their souls merging to become one.

A day later the girl awoke to find she was still alive. Then she heard the voice of the demon that had not killed her. It told her of what had happened and why she was still alive. Shinta then began to look for food. She also took the time to bury all of the villagers and Yoko's body. Each one she marked with a cross made of sticks. She also put flowers on the graves. She placed two white flowers on Inushihaisha and Tokai's graves. The rest had red flowers.

A few years later she was found by a demon named Sesshomaru. He took her in and trained her to fight with the sword that was given to her by his father. The two of them helped Sesshomaru's brother, a half-demon, save someone he once loved from Naraku.

::Present::

Everyone watched in horror as Daito attacked Yoko, who dodged to the left, then right. He kept attacking and she simply dodged the attacks. He started to attack her on the right, then suddenly switched to the left, catching her off guard. He used his sword and stabbed through her stomach, pinning her to a tree. Her sword fell from her hands and hit the ground. His blade had killed her, because she didn't move or make a sound.

Daito: now, its time for the rest of you to join her in hell.

Kagome: she's.......dead

But as Kagome said these words, Shinta's body was absorbed by the tree. Daito's sword still sticking into the bark. There wasn't a trace of her left. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru didn't feel or smell her. It was as if she had completely vanished. Daito was baffled by what had happened. Was he imagining it or did the tree really absorb her body?

Sesshomaru: What did you do with her.

Daito: I wish I knew! Naraku's not going to be happy when he hears about this.

With that Daito began to run away. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru chased after him. But he managed to loose them by running into a nearby bog. The two made it back to the others with a look of disappointment on their faces. Kagome and Miroku were standing infront of the tree that had swallowed their friend.

Miroku: ......She's actually gone.

Kagome: What should we do now?

Inuyasha: Simple, we beat the shit out of Naraku and that damn Daito.

Sesshomaru: Then lets go, the longer we wait the longer it will take to find them. Naraku will pay for what he's done.

*Naraku's in for it. With Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's combined strength they should be enough to get revenge on our dearly deceased friend!*
