Her Last Stand
Chapter 1
The Beginning: Fall into Time

Sailor Cosmos glanced up in surprised when she heard a soft giggle. She couldn't remember the last time the silence of the cauldron had been broken. She couldn't even remember the last time she had spoken to anyone. Deciding that she should be prepared in case it was an enemy, she stood up and gripped her glaive tightly.

Another giggle was heard, followed by a stern `be quiet.'

Sailor Cosmos relaxed and moaned silently to herself. Of coarse they would come to make her life miserable. Bringing her black and silver gloved hand up to slap her forehead, she closed her eyes briefly knowing that at the end of this meeting she would have a headache for at least a year like the last time.

“You think she heard us,” a voice whispered.

“Shut up Clotho, your going to blow our cover.”

“Girls, chill, if you don't be quiet you'll definitely let her know we're here.”

Grinning slightly at the argument erupting between the voices, Cosmos twirled her glaive twice before putting it back into her sub-space pocket.

Deciding to make things go by faster, she held out her hand in a seemingly random location and shot three charged energy beams. When the sounds of squeals and screams filled the air she lowered her hand and smiled softly to herself.

“Cosmos! That was mean!”

A young girl popped out of thin air to land in front of Cosmos with a small pout on her lips. Her red hair was pulled up into pigtails and her green eyes sparkled with barely suppressed mischief. She wore a dark green dress that ended at her knees with a pair of knee high black boots. To anyone who didn't know who she was, they would look at her and assume she was 9 years old. But those who knew her knew not to mess with her because she was thousands of years old and had a fiery temper when crossed. She was none other than Clotho the spinner, one of the three Fates.

Moment's later, another girl appeared but she was slightly older than the first girl. She appeared to be about 16 with blonde hair pulled back in a high ponytail with different colored strands of hair and dark blue eyes that came together to create a surprisingly flattering image. She, like her younger sister wore a dress, except it was dark blue. This one was none other than Lachesis the apportioner, the second of the three Fates.

Last and not least was a woman who appeared to be around 21 years old with dark black hair with matching dark black eyes. She however was more exotic looking because her skin was extremely pale, creating a startling contrast with her dark features. Her dress was like her sisters but black with the bottom part shredded. She was none other than Atropos the inevitable, the final sister of the three Fates.

“Why ladies, to what do I owe this pleasure,” Cosmos said, smiling on the outside but groaning on the inside, knowing the outcome of this meeting would not be good for her.

“Why Cosmos, we can't just drop by for a chat with out most favorite person in the universe,” Lachesis exclaimed, grinning as she walked up to Cosmos and tossed her arm over her shoulder.

Peeking out of the corner of her eye, Cosmos narrowed her eyes at the girl.

`Something's up.'

“What would make you think that we were here for anything other than your enchanting company,” asked Atropos, her voice soft and deep. Cosmos had momentarily forgotten about the girl's mind reading power.

“Um, besides the fact that you're the Fates and anytime you show up here it's to make my life `more interesting' as you like to put it, nothing at all Atropos,” Cosmos muttered sarcastically, glaring half-heartedly at the Fate who ended it all.

“I'm hurt, I thought we were friends,” Atropos said, putting her hand over her heart in a hurt gesture.

“Yup, Miss Cosmos, we're here to just give you some of our famous company, you should feel lucky.”

Clotho saying this should have made Cosmos feel better, but it had the opposite effect, it made her more wary and the fact that all three had a ridiculous grin on their face made her want to leap into the time field and go back and fight Chaos all over again, as long as she didn't have to face these three.

“Okay, what do you want, you guys never visit me unless you want something,” Cosmos said, staring curiously at the three.

Cosmos never knew, but all three of the girls were nervous whenever they were in her presence because she had such an intense appearance. Cosmos was truly a very beautiful but deadly person. Her eyes alone had the power to stop anyone in their tracks because of the wisdom, power, and sadness expressed through them. If that was not enough to terrify or hypnotize you, the color of them alone managed that. They were dark silver. Her hair was another thing about her that left most people shocked. It was silver and held up in two balls on either side of her head with twin streamers falling down to her ankles. Her outfit was a silver and black sailor suit. The bodice of the suit was a pure silver color and the skirt, bow, and sleeves were a dark black. Along with the outfit she wore a pair of black knee-high boots that had silver lining along the top of them and a black belt around her waist that held the infamous Sword of Artemis that she used to defeat Chaos with. The last item to complete the look was the glaive that she almost always carried. It was a tall and elegant staff with a deadly looking blade on the top that was curved in the shape of a crescent moon; the glaive was also the key to the time gate. Her appearance screamed `don't mess with me!' After all, she was the legendary Queen of the Cosmos.

“Well, you see, we have a little problem in a certain dimension that's gotten out of control and we need you to go there and, well, fix it,” Lechesis said, jumping behind both her sisters after her statement.

Dead silence was all that was heard until Clotho split from the group and ran up to Cosmos.

“Please, please, please! You have to help us fix this! I don't know what we'll do if our dad finds out,” Clotho begged, wrapping her arms around Cosmos and hugging her in an attempt to persuade her into agreeing.

“First, you're going to tell me the problem and then I'll let you know if I'll help or not,” Cosmos said, detaching herself from Clotho's hug, “It's not like I'm going to have a choice in the matter anyway.”

“Oh thank you!”

Cosmos raised her eyebrow and waited for them to explain.

A moment passed and all the girls did was stand and stare at each other. Cosmos glanced between them all, feeling a little uneasy at the silent stares they were giving her.

`There laughing at me!'

Cosmos narrowed her eyes when she saw all three of them suppressing a smile. All of a sudden a portal opened up beneath her and she suddenly figured out they weren't going to give her any information at all. She merely rolled her eyes as she dropped into the dimensional portal that would undoubtedly bring her to `the problem.' The last thing she saw was them waving and smiling happily at her as she dropped.

As Cosmos vanished and the portal closed, the three Fates let loose their giggles and held on to each other in order to not fall down from their laughing fit.

“I can't wait until she figures out where we sent her, she's going to throw a fit and curse us again,” said a hysterically laughing Clotho.

After a moment of recovering from their fun, they decided they had better get back to their `jobs'. Vanishing just as quickly as they came, the silence of the cauldron was restored and became a place of piece and quiet, no matter how eerie that was.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Cosmos cursed when she realized that the Fates had decided to drop her into the dimension by mean's of `air transport'. In other words, she was dropping from the sky, and fast. Thinking quickly and not really wanting to have an unpleasant encounter with the unforgiving ground once again, she brought her large wings out.

They burst from her back in a small eruption of silver light. The large wings were pure silver with black tips. They had many purposes and were very useful in battle, but right now they were going to allow her to land nice and safely on the ground.

Spreading the wings out to their maximum width, she grunted as she flapped her strong wings to gain control of the situation, besides an unpleasant jerk, she gained control easily. She slowly descended from the sky while assessing the area around her. It appeared they had dropped her into a past of some sort, because all she could see was forest and an occasional hint of a village. As she descended into the trees, she brought her wings in closer so as not to get caught on anything and finally drew them back into her as she dropped the remaining feet to land on the ground in a low crouch.

Standing up and dusting herself off, she sighed as she took in her surroundings. All she could see was trees, trees, and more tress. Deciding that standing around wasn't going to her anywhere, she began to walk toward a village she had seen as she was falling. As she walked, she went through a mental checklist of what exactly she was going to do to `her friends' when she got back.

`I'm going to make their life a living hell when I get back! Maybe a few rounds of fire and electricity will teach them not to pull stupid stunts like this on me ever again.'

Grinning evilly to herself she started to think up ways to torture the Fates when voices broke through her thoughts.

“She's NOT your woman!”

Quirking a silver eyebrow she stared toward the voice for a moment.

`That's…not a statement that you hear everyday,' she thought.

She started to walk toward the voice but paused. She couldn't really just walk out looking like she did now. Closing her eyes, she detransformed back into her alias, Serena Tsukino. It had been so long since she had taken this form on again. Her hair grew a little bit shorter and changed into a light dirty blond color. Her eyes went from there cold silver to a warm and inviting blue. Her height shrunk as well, while she was Sailor Cosmos, she was 5'9'', but as Serena, she was 5'7''. She was wearing a pair of dark blue jeans and a black sweater with white tennis shoes.

Nodding to herself when she realized her transformation was complete, she headed out once again toward the voices that were steadily growing in volume.

“Dog turd.”

“Filthy wolf.”

“Mangy mutt.”

“Guys, come on…”

“Stay out of this Kagome, this wolf needs to be taught a lesson and my Tetseiga would be more than adequate in that department up his ass.”

“Inuyasha! Sit!”

THUDD!

Puzzled, after hearing the weirdest conversation she's heard in awhile, Serena stepped out of the woods and came upon a scene that made her laugh.

A woman, who appeared to be around 18, stood glaring down at a man who was currently lying face down in the dirt with a sword held tightly in his right hand. Standing slightly away and across from them was another man who wore, what looked to her, a two piece bathing suit, and was grinning smugly. However, the man also had a tail and looked like a wolf. Behind the woman, at a safe distance, stood another woman, man, cat, and little kid.

She let out a small giggle and stared right back as the woman turned to look at her. A look of complete surprise and curiosity covered her face. The group behind the girl also took notice of her and started whispering to each other. The man, the one on the ground, stood up grumbling and growling about `wenches' and `sits' until he also, along with the wolf man, noticed her and both immediately dropped into a defensive stance, the one with silver hair stepping protectively in front of the first woman that had noticed her.

There was a tense moment of silence, one that Serena didn't feel she needed to break because she wanted to see what the strange group would do. She figured out in that time that she was somewhere in the past, probably in Japan, because of the weapons and outfits some of the group wore.

“Who the hell are you,” the irate man shouted, his sword positioned in front of him.

Merely raising an eyebrow and smiling at him, she started walking closer toward them.

The man started growling, the closer she came, the louder he got.

Then, surprisingly, the girl that was behind him, stepped out and started walking toward her.

“Wha…Kagome! What are you doing? She could be in with Naraku!”

“Inuyasha, be quiet! Haven't you noticed what she's wearing yet? She's wearing the clothes from my time, I highly doubt that she even knows where she is or who Naraku is,” the woman yelled back, glaring at the man before turning back around and smiling brilliantly .

“Hi there, my name's Kagome, and that idiot behind me is Inuyasha, and you are…?”

“Serena.”

“So, are you from the future like me, how'd you get here?”

“I suppose, and I sort of just dropped in,” Serena said, smiling at the young woman.

Before Kagome could get the next question out, Inuyasha came storming up and yanked Kagome back before taking Kagome's place and getting in Serena's face.

“I don't care who you say you are, I don't believe you.”

“Inuyasha, please, this young woman is obviously out of her normal surroundings and as a monk, it is my job to help steer her in the right direction,” a monk in purple and black robes said, stepping up and taking Serena's hands in his and staring deeply in her eyes, “my fair lady, I rarely am so forward with woman, but you beauty is quite remarkable, would you do me the honor of bearing my child?”

Serena stared at him a moment before she burst out laughing.

`That, is original,' she thought.

Calming down, she looked back at him and decided to play along.

“Why, noble monk, I do believe that your request is honest and sincere, would it be too much to ask for such an honorable man's name so that I may address you properly with my answer,” Serena asked, grinning softly at him.

The man's eye's seemed to light up, but before he could get a word out, a large boomerang slammed down on his head, effectively knocking him out.

“What a pervert,” a pretty young woman muttered, glaring down at the motionless figure a moment before kicking him as well.

“Guys, can you contain yourself for a second, please?”

“Sorry, Kagome.”

“S'okay Sango.”

“So, Serena, what are you doing here,” Kagome said, turning to address her once again.

“I believe that I was sent here to help you guys, or that's what it seems to me,” Serena said, mumbling the last part.

“Well then, let me introduce you to everyone then!”

`This girl is way to energetic,' Serena thought to herself as she smiled on the outside.

“You already know who I am, so I'll introduce you to the others,” Kagome said, grabbing her hand and dragging her over to the man who threatened her earlier.

“This is Inuyasha, he's a half-dog demon.”

The man she was speaking about was tall, at least 5'10'', and had long, think silver hair. On top of his head there were dog ears that were constantly twisting around at the first sound of noise. He wore a billowy bright red outfit with his sword strapped to his side and no shoes. He was pretty thin looking but Serena knew looks were deceiving and wouldn't be surprised if he was incredibly strong. She found his golden eyes highly interesting, they were almost hypnotic.

Serena nodded to him quickly before she was dragged away and over the woman who had knocked the other man unconscious.

“And this is Sango, she's the last of the demon exterminators of her village.”

The woman, Sango, was a little taller than Serena and wore her hair back in a high ponytail. She had hot pink eye shadow on and wore a tight black and pink bodysuit that looked like it was very flexible and created to not hinder in a fight. She had a large boomerang attached to her back and a sword at her hip.

“Hello Sango,” Serena said.

“Serena.”

“Come on, Serena, you've got to meet Miroku, he's the one that asked you to bear his child.”

Miroku was a tall and lanky man just like Inuyasha, and she wouldn't be surprised if he was extremely strong as well. He wore the clothing of a Buddhist monk, his purple and black robes incredibly flattering on him. He had gold earrings on his ears and wore wooden sandals on his feet. He carried a staff with him that was most likely his weapon and had prayer beads wrapped around his right hand.

“You haven't answered my question yet,” he said, grinning at her wickedly.

“I think I'll keep you in suspense a little longer noble monk, Miroku,” Serena said, grinning right back at him.

He merely nodded.

“And now, you get to meet Shippo, he's an orphaned fox demon that I'm taking care of!”

The fox was adorable. He was small and about the size of an 8 year old. He had red hair and a tail and little paws for feet. He wore a green vest and billowy blue pants. He was just plain adorable.

Kneeling down so she was his height, Serena smiled gently at him.

“Well, aren't you the cutest little boy I've ever see.”

He smiled shyly at her before jumping into Kagome's arms. Kagome laughed and hugged him to her chest before turning around and introducing Serena to a two tailed cat.

“And this little guy is Kirara, he's Sango's.”
The cat was an extremely light beige color with black stripes here and there and two puffy tails. He stared at Serena for a moment before nodding and leaping into Sango's arms.

Kagome smiled to herself.

“I think that's everyone, oh wait, Kouga! I forgot,” Kagome yelped, turning around and glancing at the wolf demon standing off to the side.

Kouga was a tall man with visible muscles. He looked pretty well built. He had black hair pulled back in a high ponytail with a headband around his head. He had really pointy ears and blue eyes. He was wearing a fur outfit with black armor. He had fur wristbands and fur on his calves. He was interesting, and the tail made him look wild.

Serena hadn't noticed until now, but she realized there was a strange power emanating from Kouga's legs and Kagome's neck. Deciding to keep it to herself she nodded at Kouga who just gazed back at her suspiciously.

He suddenly swept forward grabbed Kagome's hands.

“Kagome, I have some business I need to take care so I'll see you later okay,” Kouga said, staring at her deeply.

Kagome blushed and nodded, then suddenly the wolf was gone in a cloud of smoke, the only hint he was there the small tornado in the distance.

Serena glanced over at Kagome and took in her appearance. She had thick black hair that reached her hips and wore a school uniform that was similar to the outfits she had to wear to school except it was green and white. She had blue eyes and was quite pretty.

“So Serena, where are you from?”

“Tokyo.”

“Really! So am I! Are you familiar with the Higurashi shrine?”

“No, I don't think so, the only temple I know about is the Cherry Hill Temple.”

“Cherry Hill Temple…? I don't think I've heard of that.”

“It burned down a long time ago,” Serena said, getting a faraway look in her eyes.

`Rei……'

“Come on! We have to get moving and continue searching for the shards! Wench, if your coming with us you better keep up!”

After Inuyasha finished yelling, the whole group started to follow after him and walked the rest of the night. Serena was filled in on their story and what they were doing and what they were looking for.

By the time they finished there tale it was pretty late and they set up camp for the night and fell asleep after eating. Serena didn't fall asleep though. She didn't really need to sleep and hadn't slept in probably a few years.

Walking over to a tree, she sat back against it and stared ahead, thinking to herself. Her musings were cut short when Inuyasha dropped down in front of her and stared at her intently for a minute.

“Aren't you going to go to sleep like the rest of the week humans?”

“No, I'm not tired yet.”

“Hmph, we're leaving early in the morning.”

“I figured as much.”

“Just who the hell are you,” Inuyasha asked, “I have a good nose and you don't carry the smell that Kagome has when she comes back from the future and your giving me a strange feeling.”

“Smell? What does she smell like when she comes back from her time?”

“Like smoke and dust.”

Serena laughed softly.

“I can see that.”

Inuyasha narrowed his eyes, thin slivers of gold staring at her intensely.

“Now that I think about it, you don't have a scent, you smell like our surroundings, just more concentrated.”

“Inuyasha, I understand that your protective of your pack, I'm not going to hurt them,” Serena said, then adding, “I won't hurt Kagome, I swear, I'm just here to help you.”

Inuyasha stared at her for a moment, then nodded his head and stood.

“I still don't trust you.”

“Inuyasha, I would think less of you if you did, your much smarter than that.”

With a grunt and a nod, he leapt back across the clearing into the tree he was resting in earlier. The one conveniently above Kagome. His glowing eyes stared at her across the clearing before he closed his eyes to rest.

Serena didn't doubt for a second that he was completely aware of his surroundings.

Smiling to herself, she whispered across the clearing to Inuyasha before letting herself relax.

“But Inuyasha, I plan on earning your trust, no matter what it takes.”

A small grunt from Inuyasha was her only answer.
