Chapter 1: Marred

His cold amber eyes swept across the room. Every night he would stand at the door frame, as still as a statue- his eyes were the only things that proved he was alive. Tonight was different. Instead of closing the door after him, he walked into the room and turned on the computer. While the computer was loading, memories flooded his mind, tormented his mind, sanity and soul... just like every night.

He waited for her in the downpour. The park was deserted while the swing beside him oscillated wildly by the howling wind. His long, silvery white hair plastered on his drenched back. The books in his back pack were probably soaked with water, words became blotches of ink. He didn't care. His mind was on a particular girl. She told him the previous night to meet her in the park. It was always "the park" for them... no need for excess names.

The rain poured heavier as time went by and he shivered slightly. He looked at the watch and frowned -an expression that marred his god-like face. He worried about her; Kagome was never late. A figure emerged from the gentle rolling hill. From the short distance, she was desperately trying to block out the rain- a futile attempt against the wind with her clear, plastic umbrella. Her soaking bangs emphasized her alabaster face, while the rest was blown by the wind. One of her hands was holding on to her mini uniform kilt. It wasn't like he had not seen what was underneath and smirked at the image.

“Hey.”

The smirk was wiped off from his face by her red, puffy eyes. It was obvious that she was crying when she sniffed her nose. The boy flung the umbrella aside when it had proven itself to be a useless physical obstacle between them. He pulled her close by the waist and hugged her feverishly. He had never seen her cry before -and it almost killed him emotionally.

Yes, he admitted to himself, he was in love with Kagome. He never told her he loves her, he was a firm believer of the saying `actions speak louder than words.'

“Don't. Please don't.” She pushed him away weakly.

He stared into her eyes, after he gently lifted her chin. “What's wrong?”

“Sesshoumaru, I'm pregnant with your baby.”

He felt his stomach churned. He had only seventeen and Kagome was only sixteen. It was only their first time and they were using protection.

“I want the baby, but I can get an abortion if you like.” Kagome wiped her tears with the back of her hand. Sesshoumaru slowly pulled her to an embrace again, and kissed her lips, his right hand caressed her hair.

They deepened their kiss and soon, the beautiful boy pried open Kagome's mouth touched her tongue teasingly. Kagome's eyes snapped open and pushed a surprised Sesshoumaru.

“Why are we still doing this?” She cried, raindrops as well as her tears ran down her face.

“If it's alright with you, I don't want you to have an abortion.” His voice was gentle with her; unlike his normally cold and frigid voice. The rain slowed and became a drizzle.

“I was thinking you wouldn't want to have anything to do with it.”

“You can come and live with me. I'll love the child as much as the mother.” Sesshoumaru bought a condo from his parents' inheritance and lived alone. They died a year ago in a car accident and his legal guardian couldn't care less about him. He continued, “Did you tell your mom yet?”

“No. I am afraid.” Kagome bit her lower lip with nervousness. Just the thought of telling her mother frightened her.

“Would you want me to come with you?”

“If you can. I need all the moral support.” Kagome surprised Sesshoumaru by hugging him and planted a quick kiss on his lips. “Thank you.” Her grim face broke with the tiniest hint of a smile.

That day, they told Kagome's mom. She took the news with fury -something they expected.. Sesshoumaru promised her he would marry Kagome once they reach the legal age. He was even willing to drop school and work to earn enough for Kagome and the baby. By the end of it, Mrs. Higurashi disowned Kagome and gave her a day to pack her things.

A month went by and Kagome told Sesshoumaru the grade 11s of her school, Eitoku High were going on a camping /hiking trip. Early in the morning the next day, Sesshoumaru helped her with her luggage, ignoring the other girls who were staring at him. When he reached his rusty ancient orange car, a sudden sense of uneasiness washed over him… an abrupt thought that perhaps it was smart to look at Kagome one more time. He obeyed his instinct, but it was too late. The school bus drove by him and past the busy intersection.

Later that night, Eitoku High was on the news and the anchor woman cheerfully exclaimed with her high pitched voice that `Eitoku High was honored to be chosen to participate in Battle Royale- a program that proved who is worthy of honor and respect.' Sesshoumaru watched with growing horror as he learned what the program was about. Japanese government wanted to exterminate the `leeches' in the society… Battle Royale was the solution. Sesshoumaru had no choice but to pray to any deities he can think of as he watched the news each night. It was the second night that his deities failed him.

Sesshoumaru opened his eyes. He learned the name of her killer from an update of body count from the evening news two years ago. Hanazawa Rui; his whereabouts was unknown. Sesshoumaru stayed busy and trained himself with books about all forms of fighting techniques and trained with Nakahara-sama, a monk who was one of the best known karate and archery masters in Japan. Sesshoumaru also read books about guns and weapons. He could easily load bullets and clips for AK-47 and M-16 with his eyes closed. Firing Bazookas and APGs were a toddler's play. Everyday since Kagome's death, he lifted weight to shape his physique. Mild muscles jumped up every time he flexed. His frame could have easily fooled an observant into thinking he was nothing but a lanky, 6 foot tall boy. If the government found out about this teenager, they would have recruited him to be their full-time assassin.

His amber eyes focused on the monitor in front of him. He typed in his name, age and the school he was attending in the required fields of the site. He exhaled slowly; his cursor hovered over the grey button at the bottom of the page.
If he died, he would see Kagome again. If he lived long enough to avenge her death… he double clicked the button.

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE BATTLE ROYALE SUPREMACY, KOJITENSHA SESSHOUMARU. MANUSCRIPT AND TRANSFER APPLICATION ARE BEING SENT. PLEASE WAIT.

His application loaded on his page. The name of the university he would be attending the following week has already been decided by the government that they would participate in Battle Royale that year. Sesshoumaru learned from the hacked database of Ashikaye Naraku, the chief director that they found and captured four other survivors beside Hanazawa Rui in the busy city of Tokyo. The rules of Battle Royale stayed the same except the five survivors became the preys for this year's experiment. Naraku claimed it was an essential punishment for the survivors- there were four too much.

“For you, Kagome,” Sesshoumaru whispered to the walls. He tied his silver white hair that glowed by light from the computer screen in a high ponytail. “Hanazawa Rui, this Kojitensha Sesshoumaru will hunt you down and kill you slowly.”
