Story Summary: Souls are sparks from the great fire of life. These sparks live in a constant cycle, going round and round to be housed in many different bodies. There are certain souls that are pieces of each other, that aren't whole without their partners. We call the people with these souls "soulmates." No soul can feel complete without their mate, and so spirits spend their entire existence searching for their other half. This is the story of two souls and their quest to find one another. Set in Wolf's Rain universe, incorporates several elements of InuYasha universe.

Theme Song: Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan.
Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',I was layin' in bedWond'rin' if she'd changed at allIf her hair was still red.Her folks they said our lives togetherSure was gonna be roughThey never did like Mama's homemade dressPapa's bankbook wasn't big enough. And I was standin' on the side of the roadRain fallin' on my shoesHeading out for the East CoastLord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,Tangled up in blue. She was married when we first metSoon to be divorcedI helped her out of a jam, I guess,But I used a little too much force. We drove that car as far as we couldAbandoned it out WestSplit up on a dark sad nightBoth agreeing it was best. She turned around to look at meAs I was walkin' awayI heard her say over my shoulder,"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"Tangled up in blue.I had a job in the great north woodsWorking as a cook for a spellBut I never did like it all that muchAnd one day the ax just fell.So I drifted down to New OrleansWhere I happened to be employedWorkin' for a while on a fishin' boatRight outside of Delacroix. But all the while I was aloneThe past was close behind,I seen a lot of womenBut she never escaped my mind, and I just grewTangled up in blue. She was workin' in a topless placeAnd I stopped in for a beer,I just kept lookin' at the side of her faceIn the spotlight so clear. And later on as the crowd thinned outI's just about to do the same,She was standing there in back of my chairSaid to me, "Don't I know your name?"I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,She studied the lines on my face.I must admit I felt a little uneasyWhen she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,Tangled up in blue. She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe"I thought you'd never say hello," she said"You look like the silent type."Then she opened up a book of poemsAnd handed it to meWritten by an Italian poetFrom the thirteenth century. And every one of them words rang trueAnd glowed like burnin' coalPourin' off of every pageLike it was written in my soul from me to you,Tangled up in blue.I lived with them on Montague StreetIn a basement down the stairs,There was music in the cafes at nightAnd revolution in the air. Then he started into dealing with slavesAnd something inside of him died. She had to sell everything she ownedAnd froze up inside. And when finally the bottom fell outI became withdrawn,The only thing I knew how to doWas to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew,Tangled up in blue.So now I'm goin' back again,I got to get to her somehow. All the people we used to knowThey're an illusion to me now. Some are mathematiciansSome are carpenter's wives.Don't know how it all got started,I don't know what they're doin' with their lives. But me, I'm still on the roadHeadin' for another jointWe always did feel the same,We just saw it from a different point of view,Tangled up in blue.

Kamon was a most unusual clan leader in the fact that he had one wife, and one wife only. Her name was Kirra, and the people of the clan believed, in their primitive way, that the two were meant to be. Kamon and his wife certainly did nothing to dispel that, sneaking kisses and arranging meetings at any available break in their respective work.

So great was their love that on the day that Kamon died, in a battle against a neigboring uji,(1) Kirra entered the shrine of their village and prayed, and then took her husband's bronze sword and plunged it into her heart.

Prince Shotoku (or Shokuto-taishi, as he was known in his native tounge)caused great upheaval when he wrote his Seventeen Articles. Buddhism was still a relatively new concept to the Japanese, and the government change was almost too much.

When Tsuni, a strong believer in the old ways, complained to his lover Itotsu, a devout Buddhist, about the changes, Ituotsu simply smiled serenely and replied, "It's for the good of the kingdom." To tell the truth, Itotsu liked it when Tsuni was angry; their lovemaking was rough and furious, exactly the delicate man liked it. They were a positive and a negative, and balanced each other perfectly.

Hoshiko was a yamato-e(2) artist. She loved to paint Hotaka-dake and its surroundings, not least because she met Chiyo there. Hoshiko loved Chiyo more than life itself. The only problem was that she was a lord's daughter, and betrothed from birth to marry a neighboring lord's son. They ran away together, and lived happily as farmers, Hoshiko disguised as the husband, for all their years.

Inuyasha crouched into a fighting stance across the clearing from his demon lover. The inu hanyou and the ookami youkai were relieved to be rid of the threat of Naraku for good. The final battle had been just two months ago. It seemed like yesterday to Inuyasha that he was being unsealed from the tree and acclimating to the new time. Inuyasha would die for Kouga at the drop of a hat, if his mate would keep on living. They would make up for lost time in another life if they had to.

A.N. Started as a giftfic for Niko-san, the author I beta for. It was an apology for taking almost a month to edit one stinkin' chappie. I didn't do another little flashback thing because Inuyasha and Kouga are demons, and probably live about a thousand years. Then about 500 years later, which was my average interval, along comes Kiba and Tsume. Which is why I ended it there.(The song at the beginning has no bearing on the story. But the thing will be Inuyasha/Kiba-centric, so Tangled Up In Blue seemed an appropriate title. Besides, it seems to me as if they're meeting up in different lives. 'Don't I know your name?' That's the whole theme here.) Read and Review! All donations to be made to: Taberah Blanc, Lilac Garden Room, National Insane-o-Quarium, Taberah's Reality. Shortcut is the little blue box down there.
