Amidst The Change
Chapter 3: Dreaming about the future, the dream that brought me here, the nightmare come true
~Max's P.o.V.~
I didn't sleep and turned myself completely away from my child. Jack was stirring in his cell and was rather groggy. He didn't see Meg and only saw me. His eyes shifted from me to the tiny bundle and the face...the under-developed face...of my child. "Oh lass..." he whispered, leaning against the bars. I stayed silent. They...the people that brought us there...came back in. It was light now, and small rays of sunlight were filtering through holes in the wood of the room we were in. They took Meg off the...nail torture thing and threw her in with me. They took my baby and threw it in with the two decaying, freshly dead men in the other cell next to Jack's. I started screaming at them to give me my child back but they only took me by the neck and choked me until I almost stopped breathing...then they threw me on the ground and started kicking me until I couldn't make a sound. They left with no words and locked our cell. Meg pulled me close and hugged me, stroking my hair. Tears rolled down my face as she whispered reassuring words. My eyes remained on my baby. Jack was holding Meg's hand through the bars and talking softly with her.
I don't know how long we stayed there...they left us alone sometimes...when we slept though, they would come in and hurt us more. I know they whipped Jack one time but I never heard him complain. Meg was covered with bruises along her ribs and neck and I had deep scratches and cuts on my arms and legs from knives along with bruises on my neck and ribs from where they had choked and kicked me. I never spoke until Meg dared a question.
"Max...how did you get here?" she asked softly, looking at me. Jack lifted his head, even though we thought he was asleep. I struggled for words, considering my throat was so dry,"I...dreamt about you and Jack...coming here...everything happened just the same...except I wasn't here...now I am..." I said hoarsely. "You were dreaming about this happening, lass?" Jack asked. I nodded lightly. "Dreaming about the future..." Meg whispered. "No...because I wasn't here..." I said. "But you dreamt about this happening..." Meg said.
We stayed quiet when they came in and rarely spoke even when they were gone, other than reassuring words from Meg. I couldn't see how she was so optimistic. "I'm sorry..." I whispered in the darkness. We weren't sure how many days had passed. "For what, Max?" Meg whispered. "I'm sorry that I dreamt this...this dream brought me here so I could see it come true..." I said softly. "Don't say that, lass," Jack whispered.
We don't know why, but finally they came to get us. It was daytime when they brought us up to the top deck and the light was so bright. I blinked in the sunlight, almost cowering. I couldn't see their faces as they jeered at us, pushing us along and kicking at us when we fell. Jack held both mine and Meg's hands, glaring at anyone who stepped close as if trying to protect us though. Whenever either of us stumbled he caught us with his held out arm. "Jack..." Meg whispered. "Shh..." he whispered back. "Where are we?" I asked softly. He nodded his head forward,"We're in as good a place as hell..." he whispered. Mine and Meg's eyes followed his and we all stopped dead. "...all nightmares come true..." Jack whispered. I shook my head in disbelief. It was impossible...it had to be...
~What's impossible?...you'll see, heh.
till next time~
