Souta Higurashi looked over at the well house. He was really hoping Kagome wouldn't show up just yet. She wouldn't be prepared to meet his guest just yet. He knew she'd be ready someday. He knew the exact day too seeing as it was nineteen years to the day.
“Souta-ji-san, you said you wanted to play catch right?” responded his guest her miss matched eyes looking sad.
Souta rolled his eyes his niece may have been older than him by four years but she still acted like a kid. Half the time he acted older than she did. Sighing he turned his attention to the girl.
“You're sure she's coming after sundown Tsukino?” he asked unsure of the information he was given.
“Souta-ji, she's currently fighting with Inu-ji arguing how long she can come back for seeing as she's going to that small school. She'll be home for a week before he freaks and comes through the well himself. Oh and keep Buyo out of his way. Mom said she nearly sat Inu-ji on him,” she explained looking pained, “Come on this one wants to play! Shippo-nii-san is off with Rin-nee-san and their mates and no one else is home or even in Japan besides Chichi but he's working! And people at school don't play unless it's for sports and Haha said sports are a no cause this one is a demon and it wouldn't be fair to the humans. And Chichi tells this one training and studies are more important!”
He listened to her whine. If she wasn't right in front of him he would have laughed at her. She was just one big puppy. Granted it was true… well mostly.
Most of her blood was some sort of canine-youkai but enough human blood to age at roughly the same rate as one till physically mature. Remembering this caused him to sigh again.
She was more like an eight year old than any thing wanting to run and play with friends rather than dealing with `grown-up' things like a job and finding a home. Sure she could be emotionally mature but she liked being a kid better.
“Ok, ok, we'll play catch,” he said smiling. What she called catch was pretty much just fetch using your hands.
He actually was surprised to learn he had his brother-in-law and Inu Yasha to thank for that one. Tsukino was oddly enough their most rambunctious child to date and with her older siblings off in different areas of the world or with pups of their own so she was practily an only child.
So one day when she was about four he had been watching her while Kagome was in Cairo for a business thing, he need to get some work done and have a little peace. But Tsukino was hyper enough to bother even a kitsune on a caffeine and sugar high at a birthday party and wanted attention. Sesshomaru was desperate enough to call his brother for advice.
After laughing for a good five minutes Inu Yasha had finally offered the suggestion of rolling a ball back and forth between them knowing it kept her occupied when they asked him to watch her while they were out of town and took little energy on his part and a fair amount more for the.
Unfortunately the only ball he could find was a tennis ball, almost giving up hope he remembered going to the park earlier that morning and watching some one throw a ball for their pet dog that in turn would bring the ball right back to be thrown again.
Forgoing the indignity of having his daughter act like a pet he was desperate enough to let her. So slowly explaining their new secret game-he really didn't want Kagome to know he couldn't handle their daughter's energy- to her he decided to call it catch.
Surprisingly out of that rather large tight knit family, only Inu Yasha Sesshomaru Rin and Shippo know about the game.
Looking at her jumping up and down excitedly he felt sorry for his sister and family also wondering if he was that bad when she first went through the well. He picked up the ball they kept at the shrine for her and threw it.
I was ecstatic that I was aloud to spend the day with my mother's family. Me and my Uncle Souta had formed a friendship of sorts when they where younger after his kite got stuck in a tree. I grinned remembering that day. They had no idea they where related till the month after my mother first fell through the well to the Feudal Era.
I was practily skipping home when it was time for me to leave or be caught by the young woman that was to be her mother. I hadn't been this happy in months. Most of my family where out of town and my mother would only come back when she knew her other self was deep in the past so they wouldn't run in to one another.
Same went for Shippo, Rin and Inu Yasha. They needed to stay out of Japan till the well sealed it self when the final shard was in place and my parents mated. Chichi-ue was the lucky one out of the Feudal pack seeing as he could suppress his aura and he looked completely different with his short hair and haze eyes. Even with his markings it would be easy to tell the `present' Kagome that she was mistaken if caught.
I adjusted her messenger bag so the strap would stop rubbing my skin raw. My sensitive nose caught the sent of a kitsune and a partial demon. To me it smelled like family so grinning I hopped up in to the tree above me to wait.
