Commitments Made In Blood
Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or YYH no matter how much I wish otherwise.
Author's Note: Originally when I published this work it was intended as a one shot only, however I have gotten enough requests that I am going to turn it into a full length Fic. I do not know how large it is going to be though nor do I know exactly what direction this story is going to end up taking. Updates probably won't be very frequent for that reason alone unless I get a sudden brainstorm. Anyway, this is dedicated to all of my loyal reviewers who insisted this become an actual story. Love to all of ya.
Chapter 1
Startling emerald green eyes tracked every movement that she made. The object of his interest however was unaware of the interest that was bestowed on her. Blissfully unaware the young woman walked down the sidewalk with her mother, chatting quietly. He thought she was rather lovely, as humans go anyway. She had long black hair that shimmered in the midday sun, flawless skin that had a healthy glow to it. And she had the most stunning blue eyes he had ever seen.
There were plenty of demoness that outclassed her but they all lacked something. And as luck would have it the young woman who had just walked past him had that quality in abundance. It took him a moment to realize exactly what it was, until he examined her aura anyway. Purity blanketed her; he had never seen anything like it before. She intrigued him.
Briefly he thought of following after her. Not many things caught his interest anymore, and held it for any real length of time anyway. But then what would you expect from someone who held a Spirit within him that had pretty much seen and done it all?
Said spirit was in fact pushing the thought in his head to go ahead and follow her. It would seem that she had caught his attention as well. Shaking his head, he decided against it much to his other side's displeasure. He thought back to his high school days, and the flocks of girls who stalked him. How he loathed the idea of turning into something like the fangirls who had plagued him for so many years.
She met his gaze briefly; he almost smirked at the stunned look that crossed her face before she turned away from him. The fact that she was able to resume her conversation as if nothing had happened impressed him. She obviously wasn't one that was going to fall down in from of him becoming a puddle of goo. That alone aroused his curiosity to greater heights.
From the small part of the conversation that he had caught it sounded like she was already seeing someone else. Of course, the Fox within him scoffed at that idea. He had humans and demons alike falling at his feet wherever he went when he was alive in his own body. He would win this female from her lover if he so chose without question.
He shook his head once. No, he would not follow her, no matter how much she intrigued him. He somehow knew he would see her again. Although why he hadn't seen her before now he was not sure. It wasn't as if he kept himself secluded from public view, although he had given serious thought about it a time or two. Perhaps she was new to the area? He would find out eventually. He would turn this into a game, finding out more about this intriguing girl. He watched her disappear into the distance before turning his attention back to the person he was sitting with.
His mother seemed to pick up on her son's lack of attention to what she was saying. She followed his gaze, which seemed to be drawn to a girl who was quickly walking away from them. She hid her grin behind her teacup as she watched her son's face. He carefully guarded his emotions but she had also known him for the past 19 years. She knew what to look for in his eyes.
There was definitely something about the girl that had caught his attention and she was glad to see it. He had never brought anyone home for her to meet; she was beginning to worry that he would always be alone. It didn't make sense to her at all, seeing as she knew the masses of both young women and men who flocked after him. He never spared any of them a second glance.
“She's lovely Shuichi. Why don't you go say hello to her?”
A small smile made it's way across his lips and he shook his head. He hadn't been aware of how obvious he was being about the girl; perhaps it was just mother's intuition.
“She's already busy doing something else. I'm sure we'll see each other again.”
Of that he was certain, he wasn't going to let this treasure get away from him. Not until he found out all that he wanted to know about her anyway. The fox spirit within curled around him contentedly, happy knowing that his human counterpart was not going to fight him on this matter.

It was a perfect day to be out in her opinion. It was quite sunny outside with only a very few clouds in the sky. A gentle breeze passed through her hair as she walked down the sidewalk with her mother. She rarely got to spend time with her anymore, considering how much time she was spending in the past.
She had already spent the past two years there and the end of her journey still wasn't within sight. Naraku spent most of his time plotting against them but never making a serious try for them. Most of the jewel shards were long since collected. Sure there were the ones Kouga still had and maybe a handful of others. But the rest of the shards were either in their possession or Naraku's. Kagome couldn't help but think that things were going to come to a head very shortly.
That was part of the reason for the excursion she was on now. It was summer now and she had finally graduated from school although there were several times that she despaired ever passing. Somehow she had managed though and no longer had to worry about making trips back specifically to study and take her tests.
Consequently her visits were less frequent and it was quickly burning her out on traveling. They all knew how important it was for them to destroy Naraku and Inuyasha was constantly there pushing them onward but he had taken pity on the girl and allowed her to come home for a few days to spend time with her family.
Her mother was quite interested in the goings on back in the past and had been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to find out what was going on in her daughter's life while she was in the past. And that was what they were currently discussing.
“Have you given any thought to what you plan to do when your travels are done? High school is finished for you, you could go to college. The applications you requested had come in last week.”
Her mother had long been worried about what Kagome would end up doing once the jewels were collected. She was afraid that her daughter intended on staying in the past with the hanyou she had fallen in love with. While she could understand what would hold her there it saddened her.
Kagome feared the well would seal once the jewel was completed, her task being finished. If that was indeed the case her daughter may well be trapped on the other side of the time portal. She would never see her again if that were to occur. It was not a prospect that she wanted to think on too carefully.
“Not really Mom, we've been taking it one day at a time. There's no telling how much longer this is going to take to finish. Naraku has quit a bit of the jewel now. I don't even want to think on how much power he now has.”
There was the other fear, now that Kagome had mentioned it. How powerful her opponent had become. Her mother knew that there was a distinct possibility that lives would be lost in this upcoming battle. But Inuyasha would be able to keep her daughter safe right? She knew that while he lived there wasn't anything in the world that would be able to touch her daughter. She had that much faith in the half demon that her daughter had come to love. To be honest she would welcome him with open arms into the family if only he would return the feelings her daughter held for him. She was certain that he did, but why he refused to tell Kagome was beyond her.
“I'm sure that no matter what Inuyasha will not let Naraku near you. You must have gotten pretty powerful by now as well haven't you?”
Kagome would have laughed if her mother's question hadn't been so serious. Sure, she was powerful but that power was completely uncontrollable. She had tried through the passed two years to get a handle on it, but nothing had worked. Scrolls were useless, Inuyasha had no idea how to help her, and Miroku's holy powers were too different from hers for him to be of any help to her. Sango was a demon exterminator, not a miko. And unfortunately Miko's were too few and far between to be of a help to her. The few they had run across had tried to help her but they always ended up having to move on long before they could really help her tame her wild power.
“Unfortunately not mom, it's still as uncontrolled as it was when I started out on this journey. No one seems to be able to help me get it under control. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a specific need for it to be the way it is, but if there is a reason I sure don't know what it is at this time.”
Her words did little to inspire comfort in the older woman but she didn't comment on it. Their family had come from an extremely long line of powerful Priests and Priestesses though much of the records of the bloodline had been lost through time. Whatever the reason for Kagome's enhanced power, she was certain there would be a strong need for it, as had happen with every other powerful member of their bloodline in the past.
“I'm sure whatever the reason is, it will be revealed in time. How are things between you and Inuyasha going anyway?”
This time Kagome did smile, her and Inuyasha had gotten quite a bit closer. Not as in intimate closer though she could see it going in that direction. Both of them had agreed that while Naraku was alive it would be unwise to go any further in their relationship besides friendship. It was quite likely that either one or both of them could be killed. It was not something that either one of them were willing to subject the other to. But it didn't stop Kagome's heart from falling harder for the hanyou. She just kept her mouth shut as to her deepening feelings for him, although it was fairly obvious to the other members of their group. If Inuyasha noticed it however he remained silent on the issue.
“Things are going well between us. I'm hoping that after this is over we can look to a more serious relationship.”
As the two of them walked side by side a flash of red caught her attention interrupting her thoughts of her silver haired hanyou. She was surprised; red was not a common hair color in Japan. Briefly she wondered if the person who had that shade of red had gotten it straight from a bottle but it didn't appear to be dyed, even with the vibrant shade that it was. What was even more surprising was the fact that it was a guy who had that gorgeous hair. Her gaze met his green eyes briefly and her breath caught in her throat. Before she could be caught staring she wrenched her gaze away from him and turned back to her mother. Her manners had been drilled into her from a young age. No matter how gorgeous the guy was, she would not be caught staring at him. Her mother continued on with the conversation, oblivious to the young man who had caught her daughter's attention.
“By more serious am I to guess you are hoping to possibly get married to him?”
Marriage. Now that was something she really hadn't considered. She wasn't sure what Inuyasha's stand on that even was, considering he was half demon. Would he follow human customs? Or would he follow demon customs instead? She had the basic knowledge of demon customs but she wasn't very well informed on the customs of specific races. For that she would need to speak to Sango, and good luck getting the answers out of her without Inuyasha overhearing. Unless of course she talked to her while they were bathing but even then it wasn't always safe to talk about certain things.
“I hadn't really thought that far ahead, I don't know what Inuyasha even thinks about that human custom.”
That brought up another troubling thought to her mother. Not that she was biased against Inuyasha in any way but if they did get involved seriously it raised other concerns. Concerns that she was unsure of how they could be resolved. Sure, whenever Inuyasha came for a visit he had a hat he could borrow to cover his ears if he went into public but he still stood out badly. If they decided to marry would they live here or in the past? And if they lived here how would Inuyasha adapt? What would happen if they had kids? She didn't know if Inuyasha's ears would pass on to the kids or not but if they did it would make things extremely difficult passing the children off as normal. They would have to adapt much the same as Inuyasha would have to, and they would have to be home schooled for certain. School dress codes made no allowances for hats to hide their ears under. It would be easier if they lived in the past which brought the circle back around to her original fear of never seeing her again.
Nothing it would seem was ever easy when it came to her daughter.
Author Notes:
I'd like to make a public thank you to one particular reviewer who finally pushed me into making this a full length fic. Although all of you reviewers had a hand in it, Arbor your review just tickled me to death. I had a good case of the giggles for about five minutes after reading your review. (Me giggling is a damned scary thought let me tell you.) So here is the start of it, I hope I haven't disappointed anyone with the first chapter. While it may seem to be Inu/Kag at first rest assured it will continue into Kurama/Kag. Lemons will be in future just not anytime soon. It just may take a few chapters to get there. As always, please review. That way I know that there are those out there that enjoy this story and I'll continue working on it.
