Chapter 7
That statement certainly grabbed their attention. To both his and Youko's knowledge all time travel portal had long ago been seized and sealed by the Reikai shortly after the barriers had been erected. How had one managed to escape their notice? Obviously if she was the true Guardian and she had to travel to the past to fix the jewel it would mean that it had been shattered recently. It was another glaring statement of the incompetence of those currently in charge.
`Incompetence is an understatement. I wonder how far back she has to go to collect the pieces?'
`It's a good question Youko although I don't know how much more information we will get out of him. He looks like he's losing patience with us.'
`I couldn't fucking care less if he is impatient or not. This meeting ends when we say it ends and not before!'
Kurama's eyes flared golden with Youko's outburst causing Kentaro to lean back in his seat in alarm. Something had riled the kitsune up and he had a sneaking suspicion that it was him.
“Is there any other questions you have? I really must be going.”
Kurama leaned forward and held the other demon's gaze. Kentaro looked away first, knowing that in a contest of wills he would come out the loser.
“How far back in the past does the girl go?”
“Best as we can figure approximately 515 years, give or take a few years. She's right in the middle of the warring states era.”
This news alarmed Youko, he remembered what that time period was like even if he had been on another continent at the time. It was long before the barriers were in place, demons and humans came in contact with each other frequently. If she was indeed hunting the shards of the Shikon no Tama then she was in grave danger.
`She had better have protection when she goes in the past. She'll have every class of demon hunting her to obtain the shards.'
`Well he mentioned an Inu Hanyou. Inu's are extremely loyal so you know that he'll do all he can to protect her Youko. It's not like we can go ourselves. Koenma would never allow it. We're not even supposed to have this information.'
“That is a dangerous time to be in, especially looking for the jewel. Is the Inu her only protection?”
Kentaro shrugged. “Our files are not totally complete seeing as we haven't been able to send someone back and monitor the group. Our sensors have picked up holy magic from time to time though we have no evidence of an actual Priest coming through the well. Perhaps he is an acquaintance of hers in the past. She wouldn't open up to us when we sent someone to the shrine under the guise of learning more about the legend.”
“And how did you come to know about her in the first place?”
“Please, you'd have to have no spiritual awareness in order to miss her aura, or that of the Shikon no Tama. Although since news of the jewel came as a surprise to the both of you I'd wager a guess that somehow she's learned to conceal any shards she has on her. Either that or you've lost your touch. We do know by the sensor readings we managed to take that her power fluctuates wildly. She has virtually no control over it.”
Kentaro was purposely baiting them and it was a fight for Kurama to keep Youko in check. He was beginning to think perhaps it would be best if they left before Youko lost control and slaughtered the man where he sat. They had a good amount of information on the girl now and it would take no work at all to track her to her home. Then it was just a matter of waiting for a chance to get her alone so they could speak to her.
Kurama pushed the sword across the table and stood. Kentaro snatched it off the table eagerly, happy that it was finally back in his families possession. If he would have heard the thoughts echoing through Kurama's head he would have paled. Youko Kurama did not allow a treasure to escape him once it was his. Kentaro should guard the weapon carefully, for sometime in the future Youko would come to collect it once more.
“Thank you for your time.”
“My pleasure.”
Kurama stood and walked away from the table. This portion of their mission was now completed, the next stage would begin shortly. As he walked out of the café he was having an intense conversation with Youko.
`Remember what I told you before Youko, if she is in a relationship with the Inu we are not going to interfere with it.'
`You would pass up the one potential chance at happiness for the both of us simply because you refuse to fight for what should be ours?'
Anger rolled off of Youko in waves at the thought. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, didn't Shuichi understand how painful this existence was to him? Didn't he care?
`Of course I care Youko! Dammit, you have to think of someone besides yourself in this as well you know. How well do you think this girl would take to us if we attacked her lover? You certainly do have a death wish if you think that is the way to get her to love you. I could have sworn after all this time you of all Demons were smart enough to figure out that human customs are vastly different from demons!'
Youko snarled at that statement and lashed out against the barrier that he was held behind making Kurama stop in the middle of the sidewalk. His hands grabbed the sides of his head as the pain grew stronger and stronger. He could have sworn that his head was going to explode with the force that Youko put behind that attack.
Suddenly the pain ebbed and he heard Youko's voice once again. It was dark, rage echoing through the normally soft, seductive voice. Kurama had certainly goaded the kitsune into bursts of anger before but nothing at all to this level.
`You will maintain a respectful tone towards me. I will not be insulted by you, regardless of how close we are. Your human customs can be damned for all I care, what You have failed to realize human is that since it is a Hanyou she is involved with he will not follow human customs. If we wish to get close enough to even speak to the girl while he is around you are going to have to rely on me or you will get the both of us killed. And while I can easily find myself another body, you will stay very dead.'
Kurama was very much taken back by the tone and the words that Youko used towards him. It had been a very long time since the last time Youko had called him a human in a derogatory tone. He realized that Youko was right of course, he had been so busy trying to impress on him that the girl was likely off limits he forgot that regardless of what they were looking for with the girl they would come in contact with the Hanyou. And they were notoriously unpredictable. It would indeed be best if Youko was the one to handle that confrontation.
`I apologize Youko, I hadn't thought about that aspect of it.'
Youko retreated further back into his mind after accepting the apology. It would be a long while before Youko was in a good mood and ready to talk to his counter part again. He tended to hold grudges and while he couldn't hold one for long against his human half that didn't mean he was going to interact with him.
Kurama sighed and resumed walking towards home. He had some preparing to do if he was going to scout out the shrine. To his left among the trees a black figure lurked, watching the Fox's retreat. He had been silent witness to the entire conversation, including the one in the café with the Reikai official.
He still thought perhaps that Youko was insane for wanting to pursue this girl but he understood why he wanted to. Kagome Higurashi. The name was familiar to him, very familiar. He had met her once, many, many years ago.
The Fox had a fight on his hands if he thought he would be able to get her away from Inuyasha.

Kagome lowered her tired body into the steaming water, thankful that Inuyasha had found a spot to camp nearby. The hot water would do wonders for soothing the knotted muscles in her legs. It had been a grueling day, and there were more ahead she knew. She sighed heavily and closed her eyes, intent on relaxing while she had the chance.
The movement of the water is what disturbed her rest, she hadn't intended on falling asleep. She opened her eyes to discover that it was Sango who had decided to join her after all. She was grateful for the company. With the foreboding feeling she had been getting she was reluctant to leave the safety of the group.
Sango looked at the young Priestess with concern. She knew something had been bothering her ever since she had come back but so far she had yet to say anything about it. She was determined she was going to get her answers tonight.
“Kagome, what's wrong?”
“Nothing Sango, I'm just tired.”
Sango rolled her eyes at that excuse. Sure, they were all tired but she was the only one that was jumping at every sound and shadow. She was the only one who was constantly casting glances over her shoulder as if something were following them.
“Forgive me if I don't believe you Kagome. Something is going on, we all know it. So spill it already so we can work past it.”
“It's just….”
Kagome trailed off, very reluctant to speak her mind. Voicing her concerns might turn them into a reality. She couldn't explain it.
“It's just what? You can tell me.”
Kagome's voice dropped to just above a whisper.
“Something is going to happen. Something bad and I'm afraid we won't live through it.”
Sango looked at her with concern. She had never shown any sign of foresight before but there was always a first for everything. If it were affecting the girl this strongly perhaps there was something to it. It would be unwise to brush her fears off.
“Any idea of what it could be?”
Kagome shook her head, she had already said to much in her opinion. The feeling just kept getting stronger and stronger.
“Let's hurry up here then. If what you feel comes to pass it would be best if we were with the guys.”
“I agree.”
Kagome set to work washing her hair. So much for the soak that she wanted to take but Sango was right. If it were as powerful as she feared then two naked women would have no chance holding it off.
Reviewer Responses:
deafening silence: I'm glad you decided to review, it's okay to be obsessed. I swear I am obsessed with writing these blasted things lol I agree, quite a few stories go way too fast with their relationship. I much prefer to build up the sexual tension between them. It makes me happy to know that there are others out there that want to see the hidden side to Youko.
grapejellybean: You know, I wouldn't be able to write a scientific paper if my life depended on it. Now the creative juices have started and they just wont stop. I've been having dreams of potential plots for stories. Oh well, I guess it's better than the time I used to dream of chat rooms.
Rabid: That's just cruel of them with the review space. They probably do it to see how badly they can mess with us on trying to figure out exactly what the cut off sentence meant. As for the cat, I'm glad that he at least likes me being on the computer, my own two have given up on me. The only time they have jumped in my lap lately has been to inform me that either the dog scarfed down their food or slimed them. Ick. I myself skim over things all the time, it's become habit anymore from speed reading. Of course the last time I read a book it was the ColdFire trilogy and I managed to finish all three books in under a day. So then I have the fun of rereading them four or five times to make sure I didn't miss anything the first time around. As for the sword of Kentaro's, no I hadn't planned on making it the Tetsusaiga but that could be an interesting twist to it. Inuyasha, sadly enough will never get the chance to have any descendents in this story. So if I did make it the Tetsusaiga I'd have to think of how I want to work it into the story for how it came to his families possession. Hmm the possibilities.
cutie_pie_2101_1012: I hope this chapter cleared up how Kentaro had so much knowledge of Kagome. I'm glad you like the story so well. Thank you for your review.
Arbor: All I can say to you is Thank you! I try my best to be bad, evil, wicked, sadistic, manipulative (insert any other description you wish) and it pleases me to know I am doing such a good job :-D I'm glad the plot bunnies worked for you.
Arbor and Rabid: I'm itching to write another story but I am unsure of how it will be accepted. An evil plot bunny hit me and won't go away. Of course it would be another Kurama/Kag pairing but… eh… If you wish, drop me a line on AIM. The screen name is KitsuneSeduction . I'll go into the details of what I have planned if I do it. I have yet to see a fic with this plot line though. I'd be interested in knowing what you both think about it.
Mija: Although I haven't written that far ahead and there is no set schedule I would anticipate Inuyasha's demise within the next four chapters. So grab the tissues just in case. I'll be sad to see him go as well, I like the way he came across in this particular story.
To everyone else: Thank you much for your reviews, I'm glad you all enjoyed it. I look forward to your thoughts on this particular chapter.
