Chapter One

He would never understand her! Couldn't she see that he cared about her? Hell, he was almost certain that he was in love with the annoying girl but he couldn't tell her that. Not yet anyway. He couldn't confess his feelings to her, not until he was certain that Naraku would be defeated. But he knew that time was running out for him. Ever since "He" had arrived things had quickly changed. Sure, she still looked at him with affection but something was quickly disappearing from her eyes. He knew he was losing her, so why wouldn't he do something to stop it? Why? The simple answer was because she no longer wanted him to. That was how all of this had started. A vicious fight between him and the girl he had reluctantly come to love had driven the wedge even further between them.

He had protested, argued, and even come close to begging her to change her mind about allowing them to continue traveling with them. He knew that if the two strangers didn't leave soon, his hope would be gone. So he had tried, and failed to have her send them away. Her argument was sound, he knew that much. He wasn't sure exactly how much power this Koenma had, but if these two were any indication he knew that their boss was powerful. Powerful enough to fulfill his threats to send Kagome back to her own time and seal the well? He wasn't certain but it was a risk that he didn't want to take. He couldn't lose her in such a way, but was this any better? He was watching her heart change before his very eyes. And for what? A spiky haired bastard that would make his brother seem like a pleasant traveling companion.

The thought of her leaving him made his heart clench painfully. He had no choice and he knew it, they had to stay. If Kagome was pulled home then not only would she be lost to him but the jewel as well. Koenma had said that he would have no qualms about sending his entire team to collect the jewel. They'd have an easy time of it too, he had seen the machinery they had been equipped with. Without Kagome by his side he'd never stand a chance of reforming the jewel on his own. He'd have to tolerate them, and accept what was happening. But he'd be damned if he had to like it. Another tree fell beneath his claws as he vented his frustration. If only he could tell her! A small part of his mind told him it was already too late for him however. He could smell the arousal coming off of her every time she looked at him. Unfortunately he couldn't say the attraction was one sided. He had seen the possessive stares the Apparition had begun to give her. The nighttime was the worst for him, when the attraction manifested itself in her dreams and she'd move so enticingly in her sleeping bag. The soft moans of pleasure never failed to reach his sensitive ears, nor did his nose miss the way her scent spiked higher when she touched herself mimicking the Hybrid's movements in her dreams. His heart broke each and every night now as the whispered name on her lips was no longer his own but Hiei's.

It was only a matter of time before the Apparition acted on the desire for the girl. Inuyasha wasn't stupid, it was going to happen sooner or later. Would he fight for her? Of course, but the better question was would she want him to? Would she hate him for it if he challenged the claim that Hiei was certain to declare before long. If he did, it was certain to be a fight to the death. Would Kagome forgive him if he were to kill her would be lover? Or would she instead hate him and leave anyway? He punched the trunk of a nearby tree ignoring the way the bark cut into his skin. Blood dripped down his hand but he paid it no mind. The pain of his hand was minimal to the pain in his heart. If this was what she wanted then he saw no other option but to step aside. If he were to battle the Hybrid then one of their deaths would be the result and that would bring pain to the girl they both wanted. He couldn't answer for Hiei but he wouldn't willingly subject her to that.

Still, something had to give soon, the tension that existed between the group was thick and it wasn't just because of Hiei and Kagome. The other part of the problem was that damnable Kitsune that had joined them as well. Kurama or Youko as the case may be at the moment, was an enigma to him. Inuyasha didn't know how exactly it was that he had two forms, truthfully he didn't care. What he did care about was the liking that he seemed to have taken to another of their group. However if Miroku had noticed the attention the Spirit Kitsune paid to him he acted blissfully unaware. Sango however, had not. Her temper was short at the best of times but lately she had turned volatile. Sometimes he wondered if she took her aggression out on the local plant life with her Hiraikotsu just because she knew Youko was closely connected to them.

Inuyasha lept up into a lower branch and leaned back against the trunk. He wondered exactly how long it would be before his group completely fell apart. Even Shippo had been on edge lately. He growled and clenched his fists. Hiei and Youko had only been with them for a couple of months and already they had managed to pull apart the closely knit ties they had formed over the past three years. After everything was said and done it wasn't very likely things would return to the way they were. Too many feelings had been hurt, relationships strained.

Sango had already left for her village for some alone time earlier that day. He had wondered if it was going to be necessary to step in between her and Youko when he blatantly called her on the supposed relationship that she had with the monk and then even went as far to tell her that it didn't matter if she had a claim on him. The look of rage on the Exterminator's face was enough to send even Inuyasha backing up when the Kitsune waved his hand as if he were talking about the weather and told her that she could never hope to compete with him if he decided to take Miroku for his own.

Inuyasha looked up at the moon shining brightly in the sky. He knew he should be heading back soon but he couldn't help but feel he'd be unwelcome at the moment. Perhaps it would just be best to wait until the morning to return. Kagome would need some time to calm down before he apologized, otherwise his apology would only turn into another argument and at the moment he didn't want to fight with her. It would only drive her farther away.

Back at camp it was strangely quiet, no one really had anything to say. In the distance Kagome could hear the sounds of trees being felled. She knew that Inuyasha was upset with her once again but at the moment she couldn't bring herself to care. He had no right in her opinion, to demand that she send Hiei and Youko Kurama away. They had been an invaluable help in the short time that they had been there, they had already managed to double the amount of jewel shards they previously had. Her fists clenched, nails digging into the palms of her hands. He knew the consequences of sending the two demons away. Did he want to be rid of her that badly? Granted things had been strained lately but she didn't think it had gotten so bad that he would never want to see her again! Perhaps if that was how he truly felt about her it would be best if she just left.

Her gaze strayed over to the two demons who had been the cause of the argument to start with. Both of them were looking at her intently, as if trying to gage whether or not she would give into the Inu's demands. She could only read curiosity in the Kitsune's gaze, but in Hiei's there was something else entirely. Something that she couldn't quite put her finger on. But it wasn't just that, his entire aura had changed, deepened into something far more menacing and conflicted than it had ever been since he had arrived. Rage rolled off of him in waves, but she was unsure as to the cause of it. All she knew was that it has been building slowly over these past few weeks and it somehow involved her. At first she had thought that she was imagining things, it was nothing major. At least not at first, though the glances she had seen coming from Youko confirmed that the Hybrid wasn't acting normal. A slight touch here or there, made to look unintentional. But she was well aware of the level of control he had over his body. Any contact coming from him had been deliberate and she knew it. Then there was how he had taken to sleeping in whatever tree was directly above her.

But it wasn't just those small signs. As the days progressed he had abandoned his method of traveling through the trees beside them. Instead now he usually took up a position near her, well within range to defend her if necessary which had been quite useful a time or two. When he stood near her, his hand was almost always on the hilt of his katana, as if he were prepared for any potential threat. Strangely enough she found herself warming to him, even though he barely spoke to her. He made her feel safe and cared for through his actions. Something that she used to feel when she was with Inu but lately her feelings towards the hanyou just weren't the same.

Inuyasha was constantly picking fights with her lately and she didn't know what she had done to deserve it. She wasn't the only one who had noticed the change in his behavior, Sango had pulled him aside to attempt to talk to him but he rudely brushed her off. It hurt, hearing him throw the insults towards her so casually. She missed how they used to be together, but all that had changed now and he didn't seem to care. And then, Hiei had taken up the roll of her protector without the harsh looks or cruel words. Did he truly care about her? She couldn't be certain, but she knew that he treated her differently from the others.

Yet, she still couldn't explain the feelings of anger that came off of him a lot of the time. It was as if he was battling his own feelings, trying to reconcile himself to them. Kagome thought about talking to Youko about it, trying to find out what was bothering Hiei but she knew that if she were to do so the Hybrid would likely to be upset that she was prying into his business. While she wasn't quite certain what her relationship was with Hiei, she didn't want to ruin it by doing the wrong thing. So she waited, hoping that he would eventually come to her and talk if he needed. Again and again she questioned herself what she had felt for him. She knew next to nothing about his past, not that it would have mattered to her anyway. She believed that everyone deserved to be judged by their present actions, not for what had happened in the past. Their conversations had been few and far between and yet... And yet, his voice almost always held a gentleness when speaking with her that was absent with anyone else. There was also a softer look in his eyes, he wasn't quite so guarded with her.

Slowly his actions were mending the tattered shreds that she once called her heart. Too long she had suffered, not knowing exactly where she stood. A cruel word here, a cruel word there. They had all taken it's toll on her and she had wondered several times just how much more she could take. And then the dreams had started. She supposed that she shouldn't have been surprised really, it was a natural reaction of the growing attraction that she felt for the short youkai. But they were troublesome, especially considering that she didn't know how he felt towards her. A blush rose as her thoughts wandered down the path of remembering some of the more vivid dreams that she had recently. A slight movement out of the corner of her eye made her turn her head. She smiled slightly when her gaze met Hiei's, she knew he had mind reading capabilities but she was certain that he would respect the privacy of her thoughts. He hadn't made the attempt yet to invade her mind, she didn't believe that he would start now. That fire was dancing in his eyes once more as he watched her and she couldn't help but think she'd give almost anything to know if the feelings that she had for him were returned. Unfortunately she knew that she wasn't likely to get that answer anytime soon, Hiei was a very private demon who didn't share his thoughts often.

Kagome sighed and looked towards the sky, realizing that it was getting quite late. She didn't want to be awake when Inuyasha returned, it would likely lead to another fight, one that she wasn't up to having right now. She smiled gently at the guys before spreading her sleeping bag out. Once that was accomplished she pulled a set of pajama's out of her backpack and disappeared into the woods to change. Silently she made her way back and crawled into the sleeping bag. She whispered a goodnight to the both of them and allowed Shippo to lay down next to her. She hoped that the dreams wouldn't come this night, there was no place nearby for her to go take care of her frustrations and it was embarrassing enough having Shippo wake and ask what she had been dreaming about. Such things were not fit for a child's ears although she was fairly certain that he knew what they were about, he was just choosing to give her a hard time about it. Sighing gently she closed her eyes and waited for sleep to claim her.

Crimson eyes stared at her motionless form with a calm that he certainly did not feel. If the truth were to be told he was the farthest thing from calm at the moment. In fact, he was pissed beyond belief for a number of different reasons and they all centered on the girl laying in the sleeping bag. If someone would have told him that he was going to fall in love with a miko before he had begun this insane quest for the jewel shards he would have eviscerated them where they stood. Love, it was a completely foreign concept to him, one that he never thought he would ever feel. He wasn't even certain if he could label what he felt for his sister love. Sure, he was protective of her and would slaughter anything that ever attempted to harm her. But what he felt for her felt nothing like what he was experiencing now for Kagome. A burning desire that seemed to consume his very soul. A need to be by her side no matter the cost. He knew that if Yusuke and Kuwabara were here with them he would have never heard the end of it. Thankfully they weren't here and Kurama knew very well to keep his opinions to himself.

Finding himself in such unfamiliar territory was disconcerting to say the least. He wanted to hate her for it, God knows he had tried to but in the end he had to accept it. She had done nothing to warrant such feelings from him, she reacted to him no differently than she did with any of the others. Perhaps that was what had ensnared him so thoroughly. She was the only one so far out of all the three realms that didn't treat him differently in some form or another. Even among his team mates there was a wariness there and with good reason. It could never be said that he was a "good" person. Quite the contrary, the blood of many had stained his hands over the years and he wouldn't apologize for it. He enjoyed the thrill of killing, it was who he was and yet she didn't condemn him for it.

There were other things that he liked about her personality as well though he would never admit it to anyone. She didn't back down from a challenge that was for certain and she took her responsibilities seriously. She could have abandoned this pursuit at any time yet she hadn't. They had even given her an out if she had wanted to use it. Koenma would have had no problem sending her home permanently and letting them be the ones to collect the jewel. She would have been freed from the responsibility of collecting and guarding the damned thing, yet she stayed. Even with how the jewel had messed up her life she still wouldn't pass it off to anyone else and he could respect that about her. She also cared enough for others, regardless of the danger to her own safety as had occurred on multiple occasions. He had convinced himself that was why he had taken to walking beside her as they traveled, the fact that he enjoyed being near her was beside the point.

It had been obvious to him that the girl had some feelings towards the Inu Hanyou when they first joined them. Any fool could have seen the adoration she had for him yet the idiot hadn't cemented their relationship for whatever reason. It made no sense to Hiei, if there was something he wanted he took it. There was no hesitation, not when a blind man could see that she loved him. But Inuyasha's time with her had come and gone, now that he was in the picture and she had begun looking at him like that he would not make the same mistake. The key was proper timing and he refused to wait much longer. He was well aware the girl desired him, the scent of her arousal enveloped her each time he drew near, and spiked to nearly unbelievable heights whenever he touched her. Yes, she would be his and soon. He would no longer allow her to pine for Inuyasha and he'd be damned if he would allow the dog to continue to hurt her so. It had taken all of the restraint he possessed not challenge Inuyasha that evening.

Hiei had seen the flash of hurt that crossed her face as the dog continued to yell. Did Inuyasha even see it? He couldn't be certain, not without reading the Hanyou's mind and he really had no desire to do so. He knew the others had seen it but hadn't commented. Miroku had looked at the girl with sympathy, he had been there with the group the longest aside from Shippo. He knew the details behind their relationship, as unstable as it was. Yet he did nothing, perhaps it was because he knew it was jealousy fueling the emotions behind the verbal attack. Kurama kept his own council as well, knowing that if anyone were to interfere it would be Hiei's right to do so.

However the Kitsune didn't know just how close he had come to doing just that. Hiei knew that Inuyasha's ears had picked up the faint metallic click as he readied his katana. The slight flick of his ears told him that, yet the dog had kept his back turned towards him as if unconcerned about the potential threat he posed. That insult alone was almost his undoing, his pride demanded not to allow that insult to go ignored. Yet the pleading look Kagome turned on him was what ultimately stayed his hand. No matter how many times she was hurt by the dogs actions, she still cared for him. If he were to exact retribution, surely he would be hurting her just as badly if not worse than what Inuyasha had already accomplished. So he had sat back glaring at the scene before him and maintained his silence.

Again he tried to be angry at her, at himself for feeling the way he did. Becoming soft did not begin to describe what he thought of himself at the moment. Since when did he, the feared Forbidden Child, acquiesce to a mere look? Given to him by human girl at that! This was knowledge he was going to have to keep well hidden, yet he knew not how he was going to accomplish that. One choice was to of course give the girl up, leaving her behind and returning to his solitary ways. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the tree. Yes, it was an option but a completely unacceptable one. Leave her behind? The idea was impossible, he refused. This girl was the only one in all of the three Realms that had ever attracted his attention. He refused to let her go, even if it would be safer for her.

He was well aware that she would want to stay here in the past with her friends if the jewel allowed it. He knew how unlikely that was, in fact Koenma had already said when this mission was completed she was to be returned to her own time regardless of her desires. Her life was in the future, her presence in this time period had already altered the way time had progressed. Yet he knew how difficult it would be for her to make the transition back to her own time. Already he was thinking of ways to help her get through it, would Koenma allow periodic visits to the past for her? Hiei was no fool, he was aware that he was likely to be under Koenma's control for the rest of his life. Why would the Reikai prince give up the best team that he had ever put together. He also had the perfect excuse, holding the fact that he was on probation over his head. And yet, perhaps there was a chance slim though it might be that Koenma would grant him this request. It all hinged on the dog though, he was not going to allow Inuyasha to stand in his way of claiming the girl. The hanyou's actions towards Kagome once Hiei took her for his mate would determine whether or not he went before Koenma to request unrestricted access to the Feudal Era.

The girl's even breathing told him that she had finally slipped into a peaceful sleep yet he knew that it wouldn't last. It was inevitable her dreams would begin once more as had been a regular occurance these past couple of weeks and yet again his control would be tested to it's limits. He questioned himself yet again as to why he was torturing himself by not claiming the girl. It was obvious that she wanted him just as badly as he desired her. The one thing that had been holding him back was uncertainty about the girls feelings towards him. When he finally took her he wanted her completely, heart, body and soul. He would settle for nothing less than possessing her in every way. He was drawn out of his thoughts by Youko who had chosen to take a seat next to him.

"I'm surprised at you Hiei, normally you would have taken the girl by now. What's holding you back?" Youko looked over to the Fire Apparition, gaging his reaction to the question. He had his suspicions concerning the way his partner had been reacting. All he was doing now was fishing for anything that would confirm what he had been thinking. The glare he received was not unexpected, quite the contrary he would have been surprised if he hadn't garnered that reaction. The scowl didn't last long however, Hiei merely gave him a look of disdain before turning his attention back to the girl. Once more a contemplative look took over his features, as if he was trying to come to some grand decision that would affect the rest of his life. Youko hadn't missed the looks of longing that had been directed towards Kagome but at first he had passed it off as mere desire. He quickly changed his opinion though as slowly she began to return the affectionate gazes. He was certain it was only a matter of time before Hiei made a move on her. His voice took on a softer tone. "You want more from her than just a quick rut don't you?"

"I do." Hiei's voice was equally soft, surprising both himself and the Kitsune that he would actually answer the question. Had anyone else been paying attention he would have kept his desires to himself, however he knew that the monk was not likely to overhear and the only other person who truly mattered was asleep. The dog was nothing more than an obstacle in his path, one to be removed if he became too problematic. His eyes for once were completely unguarded as he watched her sleep peacefully.

Youko watched his friend once more return his crimson gaze to the girl as she slept. He had been awake on more than one occasion when her dreams had turned of an erotic nature. His keen sense of smell had easily picked up on the scent of her arousal. He knew that Hiei had as well judging by the Fire Apparition's reactions on those evenings. More than once his partner had stalked off into the woods to relieve some of the tension he was experiencing. He decided that if he was to help Hiei out, he was going to need to give him a slight push. “Then what is stopping you from pursuing her openly? Have you not noticed the way she looks at you? She might have held feelings for the hanyou at one time, but I think they are rapidly changing. I had never noticed a change in her scent at night until recently, which leads me to believe that she isn't dreaming of the dog. What if she dreams of you?”

"She cries out for me in the darkness." Hiei cast a sidelong glance at the Kitsune, he'd be surprised if Youko hadn't heard her as well. Still, just because she dreamed of him did not mean that she desired a relationship. However his heart told him that she would not give herself to one who she did not love and it was said that dreams were fueled by subconscious desires. Perhaps she did desire more, if only he could be certain.

Youko laid an elegant hand on his friend's shoulder, the answer was painfully obvious to him yet it would seem that Hiei was afraid to take the final step. That was hardly surprising considering his past, if there was one thing Youko knew that Hiei was afraid of it was rejection. "I caution you not to hold back with how you feel for her simply because of your past. I know that your hands are stained with the blood of the innocent but I am certain that the dog's aren't much better. He is rude, uncouth and cruel to her, to say nothing of his own past, and yet she remains ever loyal to him. Give her the chance to place that loyalty somewhere that it can be appreciated."

Hiei nodded, almost imperceptibly. He was indeed worried about whether she could truly accept him when she learned of exactly who he was and what he had done. His past was dark, yet the only time he regretted was when he was confronted with the pureness of those he cared for. Once, Yukina could be the only one to claim that position in his heart and now, Kagome shared it with her. His gaze shifted over to the monk who seemed to be preoccupied with his meditation, he had the perfect opportunity to decide what his next step was with the girl. He stood up silently and made his way over to her, careful to not make any noise that would awake her or the young kitsune. His hand crept up to the ward that concealed the Jagan and hesitated only momentarily before removing it. Slowly the Jagan opened, the violet eye instantly focusing upon Kagome.

Bracing himself for what he was about to do he closed his eyes and allowed the Jagan to enter her mind. The barriers gave way easily underneath his probing which surprised him. He knew that the shields she kept up around her mind would keep all but the most determined attackers out. Somehow the thought pleased him, knowing that she trusted him implicitly if she was welcoming his presence so easily. The pink glow of her energy swirled around him yet he continued forward, it posed no threat to him, instead it washed over him in gentle waves as if drawing him further into her mind. Gradually the mist faded away and a dream scape took it's place. He walked along a well worn path through a lush forest. The sounds of birds calling echoed through the canopy of trees and slivers of moonlight streamed through giving enough light that he could easily make his way through. The sound of water grew steadily louder as he continued on and he knew that he would reach her soon.

He stopped for a moment and gazed upon her through a break in the foliage. She was resting upon a large, smooth boulder that rested along the waters edge. She seemed preoccupied as she stared at the waterfall that cascaded down, sending small droplets of water towards her. Lazily she trailed her fingertips through the cool liquid, content to merely bask in the beauty of the area. Even he had to appreciate this small paradise that she had created within her own mind yet he knew his time here was limited and if he was to gain the answers he sought he needed to begin.

Kagome felt Hiei's presence behind her as he came to a stop. She didn't need to turn around to know that he was there, her heart swelled with joy when she realized he had come to her. "I was wondering if you'd come to me tonight." She smiled as she heard his sharp intake of breath, it would seem she had managed to surprise him. She turned slightly to look at him, noticing how his eyes had widened ever so slightly. Turning fully towards him, she stood up and cupped his cheek gently relishing in the warmth of his skin. This was what she craved, yet knew that she could never have. If the only place she could experience true happiness was in her dreams she'd cherish each minute of it.

Hiei was surprised, not only by the fact that she seemed to be expecting him but also by the look she was directing towards him. Gone were the thinly disguised looks of affection. It would seem that she wore the same masks that he did, for he felt the full strength of her emotions and they were directed towards him. Taking a chance he lowered his lips to hers, waiting to see if she would pull away from him. The kiss was fleeting, a bare ghost of a caress yet it left him wanting more. She surprised him yet again when she pressed her body to his. His hand slipped into her long raven tresses as he gazed into her eyes seeking to know if she really knew he was there. "You were expecting me to come to you?"

"I was hoping, especially after last night. Did you mean really mean what you said though?" Kagome drew back from him slightly and looked anxiously into his eyes. She had to know, she was ready to give her heart to him, yet she needed the reassurance that he wasn't just playing with her. Her heart was too fragile to take much more abuse, she longed to hear him repeat the words he gave to her the night before. It mattered not this was only a dream, it was her dreams which kept her sane enough to carry on with her day to day life. They made her existence that much more bearable.

Hiei saw the uncertainty lurking in her eyes, whatever it was that he had said to her in her dreams was obviously important to her yet he had no idea what it could have been. He clearly saw the same fear of rejection that plagued him as well. The need to reassure her was overwhelming, it didn't matter that she believed this was merely another dream. Gently he drew her forward to ghost another kiss across her lips before drawing back slightly, his breath caressed her skin as he looked into her eyes. "What would you do if I told you that I always mean what I say and last night was no different?"

If he had thought her smile was beautiful before, now it was positively radiant. Without warming she threw her arms around his waist and buried her head into his chest. The stood like that together for several long moments, enjoying the feel of each other. However he drew back slightly when the faint scent of her tears became noticeable. Gently he placed his fingers beneath her chin and raised her gaze to his. "Why do you cry?"

Kagome smiled weakly and tried to will the tears away for she was not sad. She had no desire to worry him in such a fashion, he might think she was upset with him and leave. Even in her dreams she only wanted to be near to him, the sight of him walking away from her would be too much to bear. "They are tears of happiness Hiei. I've waited for so long, hoping on day to find love and have it returned."

His breath caught in his chest, unsure if he had heard her correctly. However when her smile never wavered he lowered her lips to hers once more. This time, there was no brief contact. He poured every ounce of desire and longing he had felt for her into the kiss, yet he kept it gentle taking his time as he explored her mouth. He thanked whatever God it was that had brought them together as he pulled her closer, unwilling to let her go. When he finally broke the kiss he rested his forehead lightly against her own. "Had I known of your desires I would have said it long ago. You are mine Kagome, no other shall have you."

Kagome brought her hand up to his chest, lightly resting over his heart as she smiled at him. Her voice was barely above a whisper, so soft that had he been human he might have missed it. "Yours for as long as you'll have me." She tilted her head over to the side as he began to nuzzle her neck. The feel of his tongue gently bathing her bare skin sent delightful shivers up her spine. Her body pressed up harder against his in response to him grazing his fangs over the area, a moan escaping her lips.

Abruptly Hiei drew back and took a ragged breath ignoring the questioning look she sent him. He wanted to continue this, need to follow through with his desires but he couldn't loose sight of the fact that this was merely a dream. As tempting as it was to allow this scenario to play out, he knew that it would be far more gratifying for the both of them to experience this outside of her dream scape.

"Hiei?" Her voice was questioning, unsure of why he had stopped. She looked at him curiously, seeing nor disgust or anger in his eyes. Instead they were filled with longing and she had to wonder what he had planned. She was startled as he seized her lips once final time before bringing his lips to her ear.

"I will be waiting for you when you awaken." With that, he willed himself out of her mind and opened his eyes. He slowly retied the ward over the Jagan allowing the eye to return to it's dormant state. Hiei ignored the questioning gaze Youko sent him, choosing instead to lower himself to the ground beside the girl. His hand brushed against her cheek briefly allowing him to enjoy the softness of her skin.

"Did you find the answers you sought?" Youko's voice held a hint of amusement in it. If the look his friend was wearing now was any indication he did indeed find what he needed to know. A shift of movement to his left alerted him to the fact that Miroku was not as unaware as he had appeared to be. A silencing look was directed towards the Monk to which he merely raised a curious eyebrow.
