Chapter 6: At the End of the Day

 

A few weeks had passed with Kagome continuing to go to the past and being in the present to catch up with Alecto. Alecto had decided to wait to reintroduce Kagome to Kane or the siblings until they had gotten better reacquainted and had recently decided that it was time to refresh her memory about what their path was destined to be since Kagome had been remembering a lot of their past. She had also decided that maybe she should talk to Koenma and his detectives as she had felt their aura's occasionally and wanted to make sure they weren't interfering. War had been staying with Alecto the entire time and they had become very close again.

Alecto's house (early afternoon)

Alecto and Kane are currently asleep. War is sitting beside the bed watching Alecto, still afraid that if he relaxes too much he will find out that her returning to them was just a dream. Alecto stirs slightly and opens one eye, when she sees War watching her she pushes herself up slightly and opens the other eye to look at him drowsily.

“What's wrong?” she mumbles.

“Nothing, I was just thinking.” He answers as he gets up from his chair and moves to sit on the edge of the bed.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Not much. What woke you up Lec?”

Alecto shrugs “I was cold.”

War smiles slightly and moves over to lay next to Alecto, pulling her back down on the bed and pulling the covers over them. “Is this better?”

Alecto nods while snuggling against him “Yep.”

War chuckles “Alright, get some rest.”

“Ok, you to. Night War.” She mumbles just before falling back asleep.

War pulls her tighter against his chest and places a soft kiss on top of her head before whispering “Of course I will my dear one.”

Alecto nuzzles against him in her sleep and starts to purr contentedly. War slowly drifts off with his arms wrapped around Alecto, glad that she is there even if he is afraid to voice his feelings for her yet.

Sengoku

Kagome was walking with the rest of the group, they were on the trail of a jewel shard and she was contemplating Alecto and what she had started to remember. It was strange to think that she had memories from before she had been born, but she accepted this and the fact that Alecto had told her that since her soul had been around for centuries it meant that she wasn't Kikyou's reincarnation. In fact Alecto had had a good laugh when Kagome had told her this, that was until she figured out that Kagome was serious - then she made it a point to sit Kagome down and explain that there was no possible way that they were the same soul. Alecto had left it at that and said that she would explain more at a later time. So here Kagome was puzzling out this new turn of events and her newest friend who also happened to be her oldest friend. She felt Shippo tug on her pant leg and smiled as she looked at him.

“What is it Shippo?”

Shippo hopped up on her shoulder and snuck looks at the others before whispering in Kagome's ear “Will I get to meet Alecto again?”

Kagome raised an eyebrow “So you liked her? And yes Shippo, I believe that you will.”
Shippo nods “Yeah and I wanna know more about what she is, she doesn't look like any demon I've every seen or heard of.”

Kagome nodded at this statement form Shippo “I'm curious about that too, it seems like I should know. However it seems to be a topic that Alecto likes to avoid. She did say that I would meet some of the others soon that she has mentioned.”

Shippo settles down on Kagome's shoulder and absently plays with her hair. Kagome smiles softly at Shippo's actions and continues to follow the others. Sango drops back to walk beside Kagome and glances at her before asking a question.

“Sooo what's been up with you lately? You seem to have something on your mind”

“It's not much, just a long lost friend I met again.”

“Must be a good friend, you must be happy.”

Kagome nods “Yeah, it's been interesting getting to know her again. Her name is Alecto; I think that you would like her.”

Sango raises an eyebrow “Alecto - that is an interesting name, doesn't it mean unceasing in Greek mythology?”

Kagome nods “Yep, how did you know that Sango?”

“My parents taught me and Kohaku about different legends and mythology.”

Kagome smiles “Sounds kinda like my grandpa, except without going to overboard like he does sometimes.”

Sango nods slightly, having heard about Kagome's grandpa from Inuyasha. They continue to walk in silence before setting up camp in a clearing with a stream close by. As they were setting up Kagome seemed to zone out, in actuality she was talking to Alecto.

{Yo Kags, how are you doing?}

(I'm good, you alright? What's up?)

{I'm fine, just wanted to give you a heads up that I'm going to introduce you to the others when you get back. Don't be nervous, their cool - maybe a little weird at first.} She said with a little chuckle.

Kagome rolled her eyes slightly (I seriously wander about your mental state sometimes.)

{Yeah I know and your not the only one, anyway see ya later}

(Alright, see you later.)

“..gome, Kagome” Kagome blinked and looked at the hand waving in front of her, then looked at Miroku.

“What is it Miroku?”

“We've been trying to get your attention for five minutes, what were you thinking about?”

Shippo had a hand over his mouth to keep from laughing, he had gotten used to Kagome zoning out when Alecto was talking to her telepathically.

“Nothing much, just thinking about a meeting I have when I go home.”

Shippo runs over and tugs on her pant leg, when she kneels down he whispers in her ear, “Are you finally meeting them? Can I go? I wanna meet'em, please.”

Kagome nods “Yes Shippo and I suppose it couldn't hurt anything”

Miroku watched Shippo and Kagome interact before clearing his throat slightly. Kagome looked up.

“It must be an important meeting to have you distracted”

“It is, but I'm not that distracted - just making sure that I will be ready for the meeting.”

Miroku nods “Good luck with your meeting.”

“Thank you Miroku.”

After dinner they settled in for the night, they hadn't heard any news on Naraku in a couple of weeks which made them all a little nervous because it usually meant that he was planning something. They had all fallen into a light sleep when they were woken to a piercing screech followed by a loud grief-stricken howl; they all jumped up and grabbed their weapons - looking around to locate the person or thing that had made the noise. At first they didn't see anything but as their eyes adjusted to the light the saw something that shocked them, it appeared that a wounded bat demon and somehow made it into their camp - it didn't appear that he had survived his trip to the camp. Kagome dropped her bow and arrows and rushed to his side, kneeling beside him and gently rolling him onto his back.

“Wench what are you doing?! It's dead and if not it'll attack you.” Inuyasha yelled

Shippo kicked his ankle before running over to Kagome; both had neglected to tell the rest of the group much about Alecto and definitely not about the fact that Alecto watched over Kagome and could protect her if she was monitoring and felt the need.

“He's alive Inuyasha and he's hurt, I'm going to help him - whether you like it or not.”

“Fine, but when he attacks don't come crying to me!!!” He hops up onto a tree branch to watch.

Sango, Miroku and Kilala approached, but didn't get too close - afraid that if the demon felt crowded he would lash out. Kagome checked the demon over with Shippo's help - she noticed that he seemed to relax a little when Shippo was in close proximity so she had him sit by the bat's side. After she had cleaned his wounds and bandaged them, she relaxed a little - it was still questionable, whether or not he would make it. In fact Kagome was surprised that he had survived so far, he was in bad shape and she figured it would take him a bit to heal. As she covered him up she noticed that his eyes were open and watching her warily.

“Well, it's good to see you awake. That's a good sign, I was afraid that we were going to loose you. My names Kagome, may I inquire to yours?”

The demon blinked before nodding “Kuronue” he rasped out.

“Pleased to meet you Kuronue, get some rest even though I bandaged you up you still need to heal and sleep will help.”

Kuronue nodded and closed his eyes, wondering who this girl was he fell asleep.

Kagome settled down close by with Shippo to keep an eye on Kuronue, eventually she dozed off with Shippo curled up on her stomach. When she woke up the next morning she noticed that the demon was again watching her.

“How are you feeling this morning?”

“Alright, why…did you help me?”

“Why not? You were injured and needed help.”

Kagome felt Alecto's presence stir in her mind and heard her chuckle, she mentally rolled her eyes.

“But you don't know me.”

“No, but now I have the chance don't I. So how about it? Friends?”

Kuronue nodded “I think I would like that.”

Sorry about the cliffy, but I can't think anymore right now. Hopefully another chapter will be out soon. Let me know what you think. Kagome will be paired with either Hiei or Kurama per ptbear's suggestion, I'm not sure which yet - I'm going to let the story play out for the time being or based on reviewers suggestions. I'm going to get to the actual meeting in the next chapter and also more about Kuronue and why Youko/ Kurama/ Suuichi think that he died.
