Yusuke's brown eyes flickered open as the sun came shining through the window of the clear fall day. His eyes trailed to the raven haired beauty slumbering next to him. The light reflected her lilac skin making her look even more fragile than she really was. Her eyes were closed and her lips curved in a peaceful sleep. Her eyes fluttered open and she yawned cutely as he smiled.
“Morning,” She smiled up at him.
“Morning,” He replied. He was still in awe at the fact that this angel from above was right next to him smiling as if he were her reason for living. He ran a hand through her black hair. She snuggled into his warmth with a relaxed sigh as his arms encircled her. Kagome would have been perfectly content staying there all day but she knew that she had to report back to her fellow assassins or they would surely be looking for her with thoughts that she had been killed. She looked at Yusuke's deep brown eyes.
“I must go back and report to my commander. If I don't return soon….”
“They'll take you for dead.” He finished with understanding.
“Yes,” He simply smiled knowing that she had to do this or it wouldn't be very good. After a shower, which had turned into a more pleasurable thing, Kagome finished lacing up her shirt still smirking after his question that he hadn't known he said aloud. `Why is that thing so complicated?' She found it amusing when he realized he said it aloud. Kagome's outer calm betrayed her inner turmoil. Before she left Yusuke caught her lips in a chaste kiss.
“Be safe,” He whispered softly. She smirked.
“Always am.” Her eyes sparkled with joy that someone was concerned for her. She left the apartment and continued on her way to her long since been home. It was buzzing as normal, rookies were being trained in room 12 B, experienced assassins were going to and from missions, even the few dogs they had were going back and forth doing what they were trained to do. Yes, it was a normal day in the place that she considered home for a few years now. She walked up to the door at the far end of the hallway that she was walking down, on it in white lettering read `Commander C. J. Retunasa'.
“Commander?” She asked as she entered the room cautiously.
“Ah Higurashi, you've returned at long last. We were getting worried; you haven't been out this long before. I thought you might have gotten killed.” Retunasa said as he placed a stack of papers on his desk neatly.
“Well I had gotten….distracted and got caught up in my fight. I didn't realize the time until the sun came beyond the mountains.” She said.
“Have you succeeded in killing Urameshi yet?” He questioned his hazel eyes bore into hers.
“N-no…not yet sir.” She said truthfully. Retunasa sighed as he rubbed his temples.
“I thought as much, Higurashi I know that you are one of the best but maybe….just maybe he is too difficult for you to take on. You were assigned this mission four years ago and yet you've still failed in killing him! I have no other choice; I'm pulling you from the mission and sending Lilac instead.” Kagome gapped at him. Lilac was five years ahead of her in training. She would, with no doubt, be able to do away with Yusuke easily. Hell she could probably kill him and still find time to file her report before the night was over!
“B-but sir! I…please don't pull me out just yet! I will, I know I can, defeat him! It's just taking longer than expected!” Kagome argued. “Please sir, don't pull me out yet!”
“I'm sorry Kagome but that is my final word.” He sighed. “You are being pulled out and Lilac will take your place.”
“But sir, you can't!” Her voice was steadily rising.
“Kagome!” He boomed standing up. “I have made my decision; I will hear no more of this understand?”
“But…”
“Or you will be under suspension, is that clear?” He demanded. Kagome sighed and closed her eyes.
“Is that clear Higurashi?” He boomed again.
“Crystal sir,” She ground out.
“You may leave.” She stormed out of his office and slammed the door shut behind her. Yusuke was in danger if she didn't stop Lilac that night. Lilac was a large threat, Kagome bet that she'd be able to make Naraku run for cover! She leaned against a wall as she fought to keep worried tears at bay. No way would she let anyone else die that she cared about….she refused to let it happen.
“Hey `Gome, what's new with you?” She opened her eyes to see Lilac. Her voice was calm but held a cold tone to it. Her eyes were Lilac and she had white hair with lilac ends and bangs. She was a cat demon with a long fluffy Persian tail and cute white Persian cat ears at the top of her head. She was one of the few demon assassins in the group though that was steadily changing. Demons were becoming a great asset to them, especially since demons were supposed to be only myths so no one expected it.
“Oh nothing, just found out that I am now pulled from my current mission.” Kagome closed her eyes with a sigh.
“Well you were taking far too long, it's best left in the hands of a professional.” Lilac said haughtily. Kagome snorted in disgust then briskly walked away from `Miss Priss' as she had so rightfully dubbed her.
“Damn she's too arrogant for her own good.” Kagome muttered angrily. Going into her sleeping area she immediately started thinking of a plan. Even through training, her mind was elsewhere and even her trainer knew that she wasn't paying any attention so he dismissed her for the day muttering something about hell freezing over. Mutterings and whispers were going around; this wasn't like the Kagome they knew. The Kagome they knew trained hard, kept her reports up to date and on time and never stayed holed up in her room.
Her bedroom was simple; it had a twin bed with plain dark blue bedding, a cheery-red oak end table, dresser, and desk. She had papers scattered over her desk, red and white roses were in a vase on her end table along with a book `The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants', and her bed was messy due to her being in a rush to get to the park on time last night. She had taken a little nap, she was lucky that she had woken up on time! Kagome sat on her bed, her chocolate brown eyes looking blankly at a white wall as her mind reeled through looking for a plan though none came up.
`I've got it!' She thought at last. She would follow Lilac then lure her into the park where she would say Yusuke was. When Lilac and herself were far enough in she would knock her unconscious then….then….damn! Her plan came to a sudden stop. `She would tell everyone it had been me to knock her unconscious. I can't kill her either, it's against our code.' Kagome placed her head in her hands wishing for Yusuke's strong arms to wrap around her comfortingly.
`Though I may never see him again.' She thought sadly. `I have to warn him!' She ran out of her room and past the dinning hall where dinner was currently being served. Food was the last thing on Kagome's mind as she grabbed her cloak, flung it on, and ran out the large double doors.
