-Chapter six-
.:Kagome's prov:.
I wasn't really sure whether to be thankful Kazoku hadn't hired some old hag, or to be...thankful? There wasn't really any other way I could feel. Tell me, how would you feel if you had such a fine specimen coming to check on you and you empty house? But then, of course, Youko's jealous glare shot though my mind, where I promptly beat it with the proverbial bat. If I thought to much on his fine-ness, Suuichi might think me crazy...What? No, that's not my straight-jacket...
"Don't tell me," I started, leaning against the door frame, "You're here to check up on me?" Was that my dry, sarcastic tone?
He copied me, leaning against the opposite wall. He studied me for a moment. "Hmm, I guess so. My father's business partner's with yours."
I frowned then, straightening up. "He's not my father," I spat, a little more harshly than I intended.
He blinked, he looked taken back. "I'm sorry," he said after a moment, truly sounding genuine. "I forgot, my apologies."
I sighed and shifted on my feet, "Don't worry about it, sorry, though, for lashing out. It's bad enough Souta calls him Dad. It still gets to me sometimes." I stepped aside, nodding for him to come in.
I closed the door behind Suuichi and walked ahead of him towards the living-room. I sat down on the couch, motioning for him to do the same. He sat just far enough from me that I wasn't un-comfortable, and just far enough that I wished he would scoot a little closer. Then again, I could always do the scooting myself, or I could stay in my couch corner pouting. Pouting, closer to the hotness...choices, choices...
Time to open my mouth and destroy the silent. "What were your exact instructions?"
"To make sure the house wasn't burnt down."
Ahh, so she didn't trust me. "Is that all?"
He looked absently to the pictures on the wall. "And to make sure no boys were around, your mother seemed to stress that the most." He gave me a sideways look.
I blanched, what did she take me for, a hussy?! "Well," I scoffed, "I can assure you, no boys are present here." Just and overly attractive apparition. Ohh, and sexy Suuichi, or course, but he was supposed to be here.
He said nothing in return and we sat in a comfortable silence for a while. But, of course, good things don't last forever, right? I sensed Youko's presence behind us, and I fought hard not to look back, I could only imagine what he was thinking. I briefly wondered if Suuichi, since he was a kitsune, could sense Youko like I could. I turned to look at Suuichi, who was already looking behind us, a surprised--if not a little annoyed--look on his face. I turned around in my seat.
Youko was 'standing' just a few feet from the couch, a scowl planted on his face and a look of jealous intent in his sun-kissed eyes. I opened my mouth before he could do anything.
"Hey!" i said, a little too loudly, but i got Suuichi--and Youko's--attention. "Umm, lets..go out...somewhere." i said slowly, not really thinking over my words, but mentally agreeing that getting out of this house and away from Youko was exactly what i needed.
Suuichi blinked, then smiled that damn sexy boyish smile of his--so much like Youko's--and nodded. "Okay," his voice held surprise in it, no doubt from my crazed out burst. "There's a carnival going on downtown, if you don't mind my little brother tagging along." he rubbed the back of his head sleepishly, "i promised i would take him, though I'm sure he would be happy to see you again, he hasn't stopped talking about you. Though i, myself cant say you haven't been on my mind either."
Damn him and his cuteness. I sucked in a deep breath and nodded, my face flushing. "Um, well, go ahead and wait outside, i need to, uhh, turn off some lights and stuff." a week excuse, but he seemed to buy it. He nodded his head and made his way to the front of the house. I didn't move until i heard the door click shut.
Click.
I let out a breath i didn't know i had been holding and glared at Youko, who was pouting in the corner.
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" i hissed, standing up, hands on my hips. I had been around my mother too damn long. Gods help me.
He scoffed at me and floated over closer to me, anger flashing in his eyes. "And what, pray tell, are you thinking? Going off to some carnival with that--that, Youkai?" He huffed, crossing his arms over his chest, muscles flexing. He saw me looking, grinned devilishly and flexed again. "See something you like?" he whispered seductively, wiggling his eyebrows.
I threw my hands up and turned around, giving him my back. "Gods! Cant you be serious for even a minute?"
"I wasn't the one ogling a my very handsome person." he said mater-of-factually, examining his claws like he haven't a care in the world.
I growled, fed up. "Look, I'm going out with Suuichi and his adorable little brother. Don't mess up the house or something just to get back at me because your jealous." that was my final input. I walked out of the living room.
"I'm not jealous!" i heard him growl, the air around me getting cooler.
I ignored him and grabbed my leather coat from the closet be the front door. It had been quite chilly for this time of the year, but we were pretty high up in the mountains. I shrugged it on and grabbed the spare key, shoving it in my front pocket. I walked out onto the front porch, Suuichi was sitting on the swing, staring into space. I closed the door and locked it, gaining his attention. He smiled at me, patting the seat next to him.
I walked over and sat down, jarring the swing slightly.
After a few moments he spoke. "You know about me, do you not?" he wasn't looking at me.
I tucked a lock of hair behind my ear, no so sure how to answer. "What do you mean?"
"That I'm youkai. You have the aura of a miko, you must be feeling something from me."
I nodded. "Kitsune, right? Shippou, too."
He looked at me then, his eyes unreadable. "Yes, that's right. Does that not bother you?"
I shook my head, pulling my coat tighter as a wind blew in. "No. Not really."
"Then you know whats in your house." it wasn't a question. He nodded towards the house, his eyes straying to the living room window. I fallowed his eyes.
Youko was looking though the window at us, glaring, mostly at Suuichi. Though i was sure he was mad at me for blowing him off for another guy. I sighed. "Yeah, i know about that, too."
Suuichi chuckled, "He doesn't seem happy, particularly at me."
I snorted. "He's jealous. Ignore him, like i do on most days."
"You talk with him then?"
I sat back on the swing and kicked my feet out, causing us both to sway back and forth gently. "Yup. He's very conceded, just like i thought i kitsune would be. No offense."
He laughed, flashing me his pearly whites. "None taken, most of us are, and for good reason." He flipped back his gorgeous hair and struck a pose. I blew a raspberry at him, giggling.
"Keh, I've seen better." I tried to sound off handed, but i could tell by the look he was throwing me, he didn't buy it.
Back and forth, back and forth. "So," he said, looking at the window again, "What is he to you?"
I looked up quickly, catching his eye. I knew now i even had Youko's attention with that question. Honestly, i didn't know. I liked him, allot, way too much than i should. Hell, i even gave him my first kiss. But he was a ghost, no, spirit, but still, he wasn't human.
I shrugged after a moment. "I like him," i said quietly, looking down. "more than i should, i mean, he's a spirit, right? Not much can come from that." i already wanted to change the subject, and i think Suuichi understood that.
He nodded, clearing his throat. "Well, lets go pick up Shippou, okay?"
"Okay." we stood and walked to his car, and i fought tooth and nail not to look back to the window i knew Youko to be standing in.
