Chapter 3: Tell me the truth
^^^
Asagao continued to watch their departure, speedy footsteps pound on the shrine steps. Her mother still has her bow facing the retreated boys, and she turns. Asagao puts her hand to her forehead, feeling the pounding of a headache before starting her trudge to the house. As she took her fifth step, she hit her head falling to the floor.
Howling in pain she holds her nose tightly, she looks cross eyed before asking if its bleeding. Tears form on the edge of her eyes when Kagome kneels besides her and looks at her nose. Her cheeks are puffy and the tip of her nose is black from dust. Rubbing away the dirt, Kagome taps Asagao's injury with her index finger and the pain evaporates.
Still looking cross eyed at her nose, Asagao looks at her mother, who is looking at the twitching apendages above her head. "Mom..." She asks hesitantly, afraid to know the truth. "What happened to me?"
^^^
Back in the house, Kagome refused to tell Asagao anything. Pacing from the kitchen to stare at Asagao sitting on the living room couch, then back into the kitchen, every once in a while going up the stairs and coming back down with a really old, dusty book.
Since landing on the couch face first, Asagao has been staring at the new attachment behind her. It felt funny and it seemed to make her loose her balance. The added weight to her backside has her falling to her butt more times then she has learning to walk. Now, safely laying down on the couch, Asagao tests her overly fluffed out tail.
The feeling is somewhat like a third arm. It bends in both directions, flops down when she drops it, and its pretty good at picking up a few things. An example was the backpack thrown at the sofa across from her, aiming for the shoulder strap, she misses it a few times, testing the feel of the weight and the strength she has, she could do no more than drag the thing across the floor before picking up both the tail and backpack.
A little more entertainment was when she remembered her sensitive ears. She would lightly brush a finger over the hair and couldn't help but laugh out before covering her mouth and interrupting her mom. She looked at the reflection she had on the TV and started to bend her ears forward. As soon as she let go, they flop back to the top, she did this a couple times before her new fuzzy friends started to cramp from the abuse.
Sitting back up, she tries to stand and regain her balance. Standing on shaky feet, she manages to get her body balanced, now, she takes one step forward and looses her concentration. Falling to the floor, she manages to land on her hands and knees. Annoyed she doesn't bother to stand back up but rather crawl her way through the house.
The crawling idea didn't last long as she tired herself out. Her knees had wood burns from being dragged on the floor and her tail had bruises from where her feet kept stepping on it. Every time she tried to lift it off the floor, the tip would be too heavy and would fall on her head, blinding her in a forest of fluff. Finally, she just gave up and splats herself on the floor, acting like a new rug.
After a minute or two of just lying there, her ears began to twitch. A growl from a distance away started to grow nearer. When the sound began to give her a headache, she opened her eyes and saw her dog Inuyasha running at her from the living room. The growl made her nervous and she tried to get up but only managed to fall over on her rear.
When Inuyasha saw the intruder, he began to rush to her, but stopped when he smelt Asagao. Sniffing the floor and bearing his teeth, he couldn't decide if it was an intruder or his owner playing a joke.
Inuyasha started to bark out a warning, 'Who are you? Asagao? Intruder?' Inuyasha wouldn't let up on his barking, spinning around to find his owner scent only to see the intruder.
Asagao stared at her dog in shock. 'Did he-? Did he just speak?' Asagao couldn't believe her ears. Shaking her head, she sits on her knees and leans towards Inuyasha.
Inuyasha was surprised at the act and started to growl, 'Do not get any closer. I will bite if I must.'
Asagao stops before petting her dog. "Oh my god, you did speak..!" Inuyasha stops his barking and growling and tilts his head to the side. "Gyaah! Inuyasha I can hear you!" Grabbing her head, she starts to squeeze, 'No this can't be happening. I cannot hear Inuyasha, I am not speaking to my dog.' "I do not understand you!" She screams before looking back at her dog.
Inuyasha still has his head tilted, wondering what on earth is going on here, when she screamed and snapped him out of his thoughts. 'Woh easy there! Don't go crazy now!' Inuyasha tucks his tail in between his legs and begins to whimper.
Suddenly, Kagome comes running through the front door. "What happened? Why did I hear yelling?" Kagome looks around and sees Asagao shaking her head like a mad-man, and Inuyasha huddled in the corner. "Asagao! What are you doing?" Kagome demands from her daughter.
Asagao turns her head around, hands still on her head, and stares at her mom. Turning to face her, she closes her eyes and claps her hands in front of her face to calm herself. Bringing down her hands, she lays them on her lap calmly, and opens her eyes. "It was him!" She says quickly pointing accusingly at Inuyasha, who perks up his ears at being pointed at. "He! Was TALKING to me!"
Kagome looks at her daughter. Neither move, until Asagao speaks. "I thought you were in the kitchen?"
Kagome walks into the living room and helps her daughter up, "I was, but I went outside to get a few things from the shrines." Balancing her, Kagome lets go only to see Asagao nearly fall to the floor. "Stand up. Why do you keep falling?"
"Chh, I don't know, I just can't keep my balance." She leans in on her mom, who helps her to the couch.
"You were able to walk earlier."
"Yeah, but I don't know how, I was freaked out, I didn't work my body it did it itself."
Before they sat down, Kagome sighs. "Lets go outside and practice your walking. Again." Asagao looks at her irritated, her eyebrow twitching.
"I'm not a baby." She mumbles under her breath, each step they take Asagao leans forward or backwards where Kagome had to keep her from falling.
All this time Inuyasha stayed mesmorized at the corner, watching all this happen, before he too, follows the family outside.
^^^
It took most of the daylight hours but they managed to get Asagao used to walking with her added weight, Kagome suggested she let it lean on her shoulders.
Kagome couldn't help but look at her daughter, Asagao looked so much like her father and her uncle. She found it strange why Asagao had both traits when Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha only had one between them. She pondered the thought as she made her way inside, making sure to inform Asagao not to go to school in the morning, and not to stay out too late.
Asagao looked at her like, 'no-duh' before she too, went inside, but not before passing her beloved and freaky dog. Stopping her walk back inside, she stared at him, who too, stared at her. Each watched each other wondering what the other would do. Asagao breathed in and couldn't believe how bad Inuyasha smelled when he just had a bath a few days ago. "So..." She began, crouching down to face Inuyasha, "Whatcha doin'?" She asked her dog smugly.
Inuyasha narrowed his eyes he growls in his throat. 'I could be asking you the same thing. What's with the show?' Inuyasha looks at Asagao curiously when her eyes widen.
When she calms down her heart beat, she looks at her dog knowingly. "So, I can understand you." She laughs when Inuyasha's ears perk up.
'Wha-... But-... How?' He stutters his words, standing on all fours and looking Asagao in the eyes.
Asagao laughs and stands up, adjusting her tail she walks inside, going over to the stairs she grabs the wireless and walks cautiously up to her room. Jumping on her bed, she dials Rei's number. Letting it ring a few times the phone line is picked up quickly and a hurried 'What happened!' on the other line.
She explains it all to Rei, laughing when he gasps and she could just see his eyes, tinny invisible dots. Finally she ends the conversation with, "Looks like I won't be in school tomorrow. Bye." And before he can say anything, she hangs up the phone. Looking at the wireless, she starts to fidget. Her tail is going numb, and she rolls over on her stomach, only to feel uncomfortable and roll back, only to feel a sharp pain from her butt. Sitting up, she knows what happened. "How in the world, am I going to sleep with this thing?" She speaks to the air and picks up her limp tail.

In Reikai
The spirit detectives had just burst through Koenma's doors. Yusuke was yelling profanities and throwing punches to Kuwabara trying to emphasis his point. Kuwabara was managing to avoid most of the attacks, dodging and trying to get away, but Yusuke would only move closer. Kurama and Hiei stayed quiet in the corner, knowing that the boys behavior would stop once Koenma yelled.
Koenma was finishing a few forms when the detectives arrived, his eyebrows twitching furiously at the interruption. "Yusuke, please, be quiet." He tries calmly, the days stresses building up and he would rather not loose his temper.
Said boy refused to listen, continuing his ranting about a 'stupid lady' with 'stupid powers'.
At being ignored, Koenma couldn't take it anymore. "Yusuke! Shut up!" He screamed above the boys yelling, his face red and breathing hard. He took in a few deep calming breaths to relax himself and he regained his composure. "Now, tell me what brings you four back." He waits patiently for anyone to answer.
Yusuke looks at Koenma surprised, but it is gone soon enough. Acting like his cocky self, "Took ya long enough, usually you would yell at us long before you did." Yusuke laughs and puts his hands in his pockets, walking up to his boss' desk.
Koenma looks to Yusuke, waiting for an answer to his earlier question. "Well? Are you going to answer me?" He looks around the room, Kuwabara took a seat and Kurama is walking over.
Yusuke grew quiet, the memory of the miko has him embarrassed, and afraid. 'That power was not comforting.' He grew serious, standing straight and waiting for Kurama to be at his side to tell the story, after all, he was there before him. "I'll let Kurama handle this, he knows more then I do." Yusuke backs off to the chair beside Kuwabara, but doesn't sit down. He shifts his stance to one leg, and crosses his hands over his chest.
Kurama nods his thanks and looks to Koenma. "After Yusuke brought back the demon, the girl he grabbed at began acting peculiar. She seemed to be in a trance, I thought the attack may has scared her so I offered my assistance." Kurama looks to his hand still healing from the shock he got from Asagao. The shallow burns have begun to turn brown and are still sensitive to touch. Clutching his fist, he looks back to Koenma. "As I reached out to see if she was all right, her body began releasing a large amount of power. I managed to let her go before something happened, but, as you can see," he says showing Koenma his hand, "I am still healing from that outburst."
Koenma was shocked to say the least, for a demon to continue to heal after a minor infliction was overwhelming. Regaining himself, he asks him to go on.
Nodding, Kurama continues. "She seemed to be in pain. Blue lights were surrounding her, her companion could not get near her, so Hiei and I watched on. When her screaming stopped, she was lying on the floor, her companion looking to see if she was all right but was shocked to see..." He hesitates, thinking of what to say, "a few new traits to her."
"What do you mean, Kurama?" Koenma asks, his interest in the story to its peak.
"When she was sitting up, she was laying on what seemed to be a... fluffy, white tail, and two canine ears above her head..." Kurama stops to let Koenma absorb the information.
Thinking carefully, Koenma responds slowly, "So, she grew a tail and dog ears? Characteristics of a demon? Could you not sense her demon blood?"
"She was completely human when we first saw her, I even had a run in with the two not the day before. Other then the golden eyes I did not suspect her of being of demon heritage." Kurama waited, again, seeing as how Koenma was starting to get agitated at the mix.
"Is that all?" Resting his chin on his cupped hands, Koenma could be heard sucking hard on his pacifier.
Kurama turned quiet and Koenma looked to him. Kurama's features serious in all ways. "No, there's more. Her mother is a miko."

Kagome was up all night wondering what to do about Asagao's new appearance. Looking through scroll after scroll, then to books and records, she comes up empty. Ready to pull out her hair, she looks one last time through the shrine library. Opening boxes, dressers, and anything large enough to hold a book, she finds nothing but history.
Frustrated, she lays down on her back, hitting her head on a lump on the floor. Rubbing her head from the spot she landed on the lump, she looks down at the carpeted area. Feeling around the edge of the lump, she presses down and hears a creek. Her eyes grow wide and she starts to push away everything on the carpet. Boxes, chairs and tables are pushed aside and Kagome starts to pull at the floor piece that holds the carpet to the hardwood floor.
Managing to pull apart the little piece of metal, she pulls and struggles to remove the carpet. When enough of it was removed, the lump on the floor was a latch to a floor door. The handle was removed and she couldn't get a good enough grip to open the door. Looking around, she fumbles through the desks and pulls out a pen. Going over again, she thrusts the pen into the latch hole and starts to pull up. When the door opens a crack, the pen bends and the door falls down shut.
Screaming out her aggravation, Kagome tries one last time and looks around the room. The phone cord catches her eye and she crawls her way to it. Ripping the cord from its carrier, Kagome inserts the cord through the latch hole and out the other side, tying the cord in a knot, she pulls, the cord holds up long enough for Kagome to slip her hand through and lift the heavy door.
She throws it open in one swift move, grunting from the heavy weight. The door falls back with a loud crash, but Kagome pays no attention and stares down the dark underground hole now in her library floor. On the table, she grabs her purse and looks for her keys. A flashlight key chain dangles and she turns the bulb to see if it still works. Smiling that the little light has power, Kagome makes her way down the steps.
Shining the light in all directions, the room she is in smells moldy. On the walls are spider webs, damaged and abandoned, a few maps and scrolls line the walls, glancing over them, her face begins to brighten. Although the scrolls hold nothing she could use at the moment, the books on an old wooden desk leaning on the wall or fallen over, seem to hold the secrets she looks for. One book in particular catches her eye. It seemed to have fallen and she leans down and picks it up. Blowing away the dust, she shines her light on the cover. 'Inoru' the title of the book. "Pray..."
^^^
Having managed to sleep on her side, Asagao was suddenly jolted awake when she heard a loud bang somewhere down outside. Looking around her room, she grabs her jacket and quickly puts it on. She swings her tail over her shoulder, momentarily loosing her balance, she quickly stands, rushing out of her room. Knocking on her mothers door before entering, she sees she's not there. Worried she looks around, the window is open and a late night breeze lightly blows the curtains.
Racing down the stairs two at a time, she jumps over the hand rail before landing and rushing out the door. Outside she screams for her mom to hear her, "MOM," Asagao pants from her burst of energy. Hearing creaking from one of the shrines, she hurries over to see what was going on.
Slamming open the sliding doors, Asagao sees the library trashed. Chairs toppled over, the carpet pulled from the floor, her mothers purse lays on the floor, its contents falling out. Asagao assumes the worse when she sees her mom walking out from the floor, holding a really old, really dusty book, her keys safely dangling from her grinning mouth. Kagome looks to Asagao, her face worried and sweat falling from her brow. "Are you all right, Asagao?" Kagome asks, removing the keys from her mouth and placing the book on one of the few items still standing.
Asagao looks disbelieving at her mom. "What happened to the library?" was all she managed to ask. Taking a step into the room, she feels like she's stepping on something and sees a phone broken in two. "What happened to the phone?!" She asks, her eyes tearing over.
Kagome wasn't listening to her daughter, she was quickly flipping through the pages of the book she found, glancing at the titles and scanning through the excerpts. Skimming through one passage, Kagome motions for Asagao. "Hey sweety, what time is it?" Kagome fumbles with the page, flipping it back and forth.
"UH-" looking around the library for a clock, she goes over to her mother and grabs her arm. Turning around to see her wrist, Asagao looks at Kagome's watch, "It is... five-thirty." Kagome takes back her wrist and looks herself. Agreeing that the time was right, she motions for Asagao to sit by her. Curious of what her mom found, Asagao, grabs a chair and one for Kagome.
As they both sit, Kagome mumbles some of the words written down on the book. Asagao stares down at the kanji and she wonders what it is. 'It's written in old japan calligraphy, how can she read it?' "Ah-ha!" Shocked out of her musing, Asagao grabs hold of the chair, balancing herself back into an upright position.
"This is perfect! Haha!" Kagome cheers. "Look at this Asagao, see? It says, 'Illusion pendent' do you know what that means?" Before Asagao can answer Kagome is up and out of the library. From outside Kagome calls to Asagao, "Do you mind cleaning up the library? Thank-you."
Asagao looks around. Her face begins to pout, and she gets to work.
^^^
Koenma's office was unusually quiet, the group of men seem to be thinking hard on a particular subject. Koenma racks his brain, thinking of the circumstance the group brought to him. "Yusuke, I want you to bring the girl here. I'll look up her records, and see if she is authorized to live in the human world. Find out her mother's name, I want to know why there is a miko still living in this time." Sucking on his pacifier, he breaths deeply. His face shows his worry, small drops of sweet dot his brow. "If there is nothing left to report, you may leave." He says, folding his hands on his desk. He doesn't look up as the boys walk out the door.
Yusuke is first out the door, he tilts his head looking up to the ceiling. The walls were made so high so that King Enma could walk with comfort. Botan is seen waiting for the group, her instructions were to take the boys to the safest distance to the shrine without being detected.

"Pray..."
