A.N: This is a Inuyasha/Yu Yu Hakusho crossover. I just thought of this story, so I'm still working everything out. I am not sure about the parings but I am sure that this fic will NOT be an Inu/Kag story, so if you don't like that then don't read. The story is rated for language, you are warned.

She was weak, useless, just like he always told her she was. And she hated it. She hated being the one left out of the fight, she hated being saved. She watched as Inuyasha sliced through demon after demon with his sword. Sango had her boomerang, Miroku his wind tunnel, and even little Shippo was more useful then she was.
`Why?'
That was the question she had always asked herself. Why was she weak? Why wasn't she more useful? Why wasn't she more like Kikyo? That's what he wanted her to be, more like his dead lover. She had tried, she really had. But being seen as just a mere shadow of the past hurt her deeply. It hurt her to know that he could never love her, at least not in the way that she wanted. It wasn't fair. That's what she thought, but as soon as she thought those things she'd instantly feel selfish. Why was her pain different from anyone else's? The answer: it wasn't.
She didn't hate Inuyasha for saying that she was weak, she didn't hate Kikyo for being stronger—she hated herself for not being what he wanted or needed. She was even weak to her own family! She knew that they were worried about her. Her mother had made her go to a psychiatrist to work out her issues, it hadn't helped. She was just as depressed as ever.
To top all of this off her friends from her time had become distant. She knew that they were ashamed of her; maybe they even thought she might go crazy in school or something. Her once beautiful brown eyes had darkened with her depression and were now a deep blue. She had given up hope that she could ever be loved.
Then Shippo changed her mind. He loved her, not the way that she loved Inuyasha, but as a member of his family, as his mother. He loved her unconventionally, and without hesitation. She also had Sango, her adoptive sister, and Miroku, her perverted brother. And yet still, even with all the love she received from her real and adoptive families she still clung to the false hope that Inuyasha would change his mind and come back to her….No, he had made his choice apparently clear by bringing her incarnation to replace her, Inuyasha had chosen Kikyo. Her heart had shattered, in more pieces than the Shikon no Tama they had spent gathering together for the past two years. They had made progress and now had just about half of the jewel. They had been so close during that time…
“Kagome.”
A voice snapped her from her thoughts, it was him. She glanced up at him, her eyes cold and distant. “What?” She remembered now, they were walking, following up on a rumor of a jewel shard in the west.
“Keep alert, I smell demons.” His statement was plain and ridden with disgust.
Kagome glared at him, `How stupid does he think I am? There's demons everywhere around here!' He didn't think she could be strong enough to sense the demonic auras. There were dozens maybe hundreds that clouded her mind. She kept her eyes cool and emotionless, “Okay.”
He turned and swiftly returned to the head of the group where Kikyo was. She watched as he went, then turned to scan the surrounding bushes. She wondered vaguely why he still kept her around, when Kikyo could sense the jewel shards as well. She was convenient, she guessed.
She felt the demon before Inuyasha smelled it. It came at them fast, its human-like appearance made Inuyasha hesitate. All hesitation disappeared, however when the demon shot a red energy blast at them. Inuyasha reached not for her, but for Kikyo and jumped out of the way. Kirara, who had been in the air with Sango and Shippo on her back plummeted towards earth to scoop up Miroku. She however was left there, with the attack coming closer, and closer. Closing her eyes she wondered if Inuyasha would even bother to go tell her family that she had died, she wondered if she'd be missed. Bracing herself for impact, she waited…
“You okay Kagome?” It was Sango. She opened her eyes, she was alive? She was hovering fifty feet off the ground, supported there only by Sango's grip on her arm. Yanking her, the demon slayer lifted her up and over onto Kirara's back.
“Yes, thanks Sango.” She glanced down, her senses searching for the demon. She found him easily, standing at the edge of a crater. The huge attack had made at least a 50 foot long crater and had cleared all the vegetation away within a 100 foot radius of the attack. “The demon is over there.” She pointed to him and Sango steered Kirara towards him.
Kagome stared at the demon. He had ruby red hair cropped short against his head. His long bangs half hid his light orange eyes. He was nicely muscled, and attractive. She could tell that he would be tough to beat. Kirara landed and Kagome jumped off, her bow at the ready.
Inuyasha used to turn to her to find jewel shards, now he turned to the dead Kikyo. He didn't however; realize that being dead Kikyo couldn't precisely pinpoint the location of a jewel shard. Kagome had long realized this fact when Kikyo lead them far from where the jewel shard was actually located. She would then cover for her incarnation and persuade the others to expand their search and then Kagome would lead them to the actual location. She'd cover for Kikyo. She didn't know why she did it, she shouldn't do it, Kikyo took Inuyasha from her…
“Where is the jewel shard on him, Kikyo?” His voice once again snapped her from her thoughts.
“Not shard, shards. He has more than one!” Kikyo stood way off to the side, away from the fight. “He has seven!”
Kagome snorted at Kikyo's words. `How stupid can she be? Those are our shards she's sensing…' She wanted to correct her but Inuyasha would just yell at her and tell her how useless she was, and she really didn't need another knife to the heart.
“Die!” She heard Inuyasha yell as he charged the demon with the transformed Tetsusaiga in his hands. `No!' Her mind screamed at her to tell him but his words kept her back.
“Silly little half demon, how low do you think I am? I do not rely on power from objects or other people like you, I have my own power!” The opposing demon held his hands together and started forming another red energy attack. The power came off the demon in waves that even Kagome could sense, and yet Inuyasha kept up the attack.
“Inuyasha! He doesn't have any jewel shards! Kikyo is sensing ours! Please stop, he's too strong!” Kagome screamed at the attacking hanyou.
Inuyasha growled at her, “Shut the fuck up! Kikyo is your incarnation which means she can sense the jewel shards better than you! And there ain't no way this would-be demon is stronger than I am!”
The red haired demon growled at Inuyasha. “This `would-be' demon could destroy you in one swipe if I really wanted to, which I do by the way.” He grinned. “I am Ichiro, the son of a great and powerful demon and your destroyer.”
“No…” Kagome whispered.
“What did you say Kagome?” Sango asked, hefting Hiraikotsu up against her shoulder.
“That demon…he doesn't have any shards. Kikyo's…wrong.” Kagome voice faltered slightly, but she kept her eyes emotionless.
“Inuyasha! Kagome said—” But Sango's warning was cut off.
“What did that pathetic weakling say? This demon is too strong not to have at least seven jewel shards and anyway Kikyo told me that he had jewel shards, so he does! Now shut up and stay out of my way!” His words cut deeply into Kagome and made her want to cry. Instead she walked toward him.
“You're wrong. She's wrong.” Kagome's voice was steady and dangerously low. “You may think that bitch better than me, but being dead she can't locate exactly where the jewel shards are. That demon, Ichiro, he has no jewel shards, he relies only on his own power unlike you. Oh and by the way, SIT!” All the anger, and pain that she had felt for so long went into this one and Kagome knew that Inuyasha wouldn't be getting up for a while.
“Ooooo, a fiery one, I like you.” The demon Ichiro said smirking at her and showing one pointed fang through his lips. “Maybe after I kill your companions off, I'll have some fun with you…” He licked his lips then jumped into the air to avoid Hiraikotsu, which whizzed by a second later. It missed its intended target and spun around to return to its wielder.
“Stay still!” Sango yelled. “Hiraikotsu!” She cried before throwing the giant boomerang once more.
Ichiro did not make any attempt to dodge the second attack and the weapon looked to be on target that was until he brushed it aside like it was no more than a child's toy. The large weapon skidded across the ground and stopped way behind the demon and out of reach to Sango.
Cursing slightly under her breath the demon slayer drew her katana. “Guys, I could use a little help here!”
“I'm coming Sango!” Miroku yelled rushing to defend the demon slayer. He swung his staff at Ichiro, and missed horribly. The demon laughed at his attempts and lashed out with his fists. Miroku was sent flying and disappeared into the trees behind them.
The demon roared with laughter, “Well I guess he was more of a challenge than your little hanyou friend over there,” He gestured to Inuyasha who still lay peacefully unconscious at the bottom of a twenty foot Inuyasha-shaped hole. “At least the monk put up more of a fight than dog-boy.”
“Ichiro!”
Ichiro turned and grinned as Kagome ran up to him with her bow notched. “Hello my fiery little miko. Have you come to play?”
“Play with this you bastard!” The miko screamed letting the arrow go. It shot away from the bow and began to glow pink with miko energy.
Ichiro grinned and lifted his hand. Red energy began to form once more around his palm. “I'll play, but I get to be `it'.” He released the gathered energy and it shot toward Kagome's arrow.
Each second seemed to take years as the two attacks came closer and closer together. Kagome couldn't explain the feeling that suddenly ran through her chest. She swayed, her hearing blanking out, and her vision blurring. She turned to see if Sango, Miroku and Shippo were alright and to see if they were experiencing this strange pain. When she did she saw something that surprised her, Kikyo stood there, bow in hand. Kikyo's lips were moving but she couldn't hear any sound, then suddenly she could hear.
“So…how's it like to be rejected by your only love? I will take him to hell with me and now the only person that was standing my way will be gone. How does it feel?” Her voice was cold but she was smiling menacingly.
“W-what?” Kagome whispered, looking once more at her friends.
“Kagome! NO!” She heard one of them scream. What was happening? Why were they screaming?
“What…?” Kagome was so confused. Nothing made sense, her vision was blurry, her hearing blanking out and to top it all off she was feeling light-headed. Then she looked down and stared in shock. An arrow stuck out of her chest, Kikyo's arrow. She wavered on the spot as her legs threatened to give out on her.
She had no time to react, no time to get out of the way of the fiery blast that sped towards her. She only could watch as the two attacks hit one another. There was a great flash of light as the energy blast and the sacred arrow battled it out. Then the arrow split the attack in two and continued on its path toward Ichiro. The demon could not escape his fate as the arrow hit him and purified him instantly. Ichiro's attack, although it was weakened and split in two by Kagome's arrow, continued on its path. The only satisfaction she got was that she had finally taken a stand against Inuyasha.
She smiled, a real smile, something that she hadn't done in a long time. Then the attack hit and everything turned black.
