Prologue: The Fool
-The final battle with Naraku-
The field was painted in a deep crimson, and every so often more crimson would be added to the work of `art'. On the `painting' were youkai bodies, and every so often more would be added. If an onlooker would look on the crimson field they would witness the final stand against Naraku. The youkai bodies were a mix of Koga's remaining pack and allies and Naraku's demonic army, Kanna and Kagura had left earlier to escape death and hope for the death of their master. But, the painted crimson battlefield was not finished, it was a work in progress. More crimson life force was to be spilt of the fallen.
-Kagome's POV-
Kagome had just witnessed Naraku impale Inu Yasha in the gut, the tentacle removed itself and knocked him into a tree rendering him unconscious.
` He's still alive, but can't defend himself. If I distract Naraku I'd have to do it alone.'
She looked over to see Sesshomaru, Koga, Sango, and Kilala make quick work of the rest of Naraku's demonic army.
“Kukukuku, it's just us little miko, and you can't beat me.” Said Naraku.
“I can and I will you BASTARD! You killed Miroku! You hurt Inu, killed Sango's brother and family, and hurt many others. You WILL pay!” Screamed said miko.
“Then shall we? Kukuku.”
After he said that he tossed one of his tentacles at her, but she jumped out of the way and shot and arrow at him purifying his right torso.
“YOU will pay for THAT!” yelled Naraku as he tossed another tentacle at her, making her leap out of the way of a serious injury and getting cut in the side.
But the way she landed meant she couldn't maneuver her way out of the next shot, and the tentacle was coming her way.
“Hiraikotsu!” yelled Kagome's sister figure Sango.
The big bone boomerang sliced through the tentacle buying the time need for Kagome to get up.
Kagome whizzed strait up, ducked another tentacle and ran to the side to notch another arrow.
“Hiraikotsu!” yelled Sango as she threw her massive weapon at the hanyou once again.
“That trick won't work again.” Said Naraku as he slid a tentacle to the underbelly of Hiraikotsu and knocked it skyward in a different direction.
“Is your mind getting clouded with the grief of losing your monk? You cannot defeat me!” commented Naraku.
Kagome and Sango had tears in their eyes remembering Miroku's sacrifice.
~FLASHBACK~
Kagome had fired another arrow at the seemingly endless army, but the ocean of low-leveled youkai didn't seem to lessen in it's sheer size.
“Don't Miroku! The poison insects!” yelled Sango.
Kagome turned to find that Miroku was removing the prayer beads to release his wind tunnel. Tears filled her eyes when she saw Miroku would not sway Sango's way of opinion and continued to remove the prayer beads.
“Wind Tunnel!” yelled Miroku as his wind tunnel took in many of the massive army reducing it to a manageable scale.
But it also took in many of the poison insects, if not all of them, and he was dying and fast. So he finally said the one thing he always wanted to say.
“S-sango, I've a-lways l-loved y-you.” He said that and then collapsed and left earth for the ethereal plane of the afterlife, but left a heartbroken demon slayer behind, knowing now that both her brother and `her' monk were now gone. (Naraku took Koga's and Kohaku's shards at the beginning of the battle.)
~END FLASHBACK~ back to the battle Authors POV
Kagome was crying smoky white tears and was slightly glowing herself, as Naraku hit Sango away she fired at him with a glowing white arrow instead of pink.
“DIE YOU BASTARD!” she yelled as the arrow headed Naraku's way.
Naraku turned to see the arrow heading marksmanly toward where his heart would be. He screamed out in terror and pain as the arrow struck and enveloped him in the purifying light, as his screams died so did he.
“KAGOME!” yelled Sango as she saw her sister-figure collapse.
-Authors POV 15 min later-
“Kagome! Please, please wake up!” begged Sango.
“Unn, my head, it hurts.” Complained Kagome as she sat up.
“Kagome, thank goodness.” Said Sango as she hugged her sister.
“Wait…where's Naraku?! What about the jewel?!” questioned Kagome.
“Naraku's dead, you killed him. As for the jewel, here.” Sango replied giving Kagome the jewel.
As soon as Kagome touched it, it was purified. She then quickly fused it with her half, and watched as it glowed in it's happiness at being with it's mistress once more and being whole once again.
“Where's Inu Yasha?” questioned Kagome.
“Right here wench.” Replied a not very enthusiastic inu-hanyou.
The shikon glowed again as if in irritation that this inu-hanyou would degradedly call its mistress that.
“Inu Yasha….” Called a feminine emotionless voice.
“Ki-kikyou?” called Inu Yasha.
“You have finished Naraku, now finish your promise to me.” She called back.
Inu Yasha looked thoughtful for a moment as if actually considering if he would. After a moment he walked over to her.
“NO! Inu Yasha!” called Kagome.
“I promised Kikyou, and I intend to keep my promise to her.” Stated Inu Yasha as he embraced Kikyou and kissed her on her dead lips.
Kagome cried for he had chosen but had not chosen her.
Kikyou smiled, he made her his choice. So she dragged him to hell with her then and there, leaving a distraught miko behind.
“Don't cry for a fool Kagome.” Said Sesshomaru as he walked up behind her.
He saw her as his Imouto, his little sister, and he did not wish to see her cry.
“He was a fool who made a fool's choice, don't cry because of that.”
The shikon pulsed as if in agreement to try to soothe its mistress with its aura.
