The Pure Miko

Chapter 15

“I did not think that you needed to know such details.” Kagome said, directing her comment to Yusuke and Kuwabara. “I was born with it in my body, it is only fitting that it go back where it was before it was ripped from my side. Is there any other questions that you might have?” Kagome turned her attention back Koenma.

“How long have you been back in this time?”

“A few years. Nothing worth…” Kagome trailed off again. Her eyes narrowed slightly as her forehead started to crease a little in deep concentration.

“Only a few years. And I didn't do much while in high school, just a few kills in the slums.” She answered in a mumble, as if she was going over something in her head. “That's why. I have only been here for a few years. I haven't been…” She trailed off again. Her expression showed another new understanding. Another epiphany had struck and the look on Kagome's face was not good.

“That…THAT DEMON!” Kagome growled out.

She turned to Sesshomaru with a whip of her hair going behind her shoulder. “He knows that I have the power and training that I didn't have when I was fifteen. Don't you get it! He has been waiting for me to grow up and become trained. He wants me to help him take over the four worlds. On my own - ”

“You would take over the Human and Spirit World with ease. And if he is as powerful as you believe him to have then he could take over the other two with your help.” Sesshomaru interrupted her. The look on his face told Kagome that he was following her train of thought and that he was not happy about it.

“But that is impossible. She can't possibly take over the Spirit World or the Demon World! Even we can't take that. My father couldn't even do that!” Koenma exclaimed.

“I can't assure you that if Kagome wanted to she could easily take out the Spirit World with ease.” Inuyasha said with conviction. “She has the power.”

“And she has all of the right connections in the Demon World to do some damage as well. This demon seems to have the power if he would combine with Kagome.”

“Especially if you consider us in the mix.” Shippo said. Everyone but Sesshomaru stared at him in question. Shippo just rolled his eyes in exasperation as if he was mad that he had to explain this too them of all people.

“We all have a loyalty to Kagome. She has save all of our butts at some point, and that includes you Sesshomaru, just as much as we have saved her. We are all loyal to each other.”

Inuyasha laughed. “You actually have a thought in that brain of yours. But you're right and wrong at the same time. We would never allow Kagome to do something like that. And you would never do something like that.” Inuyasha directed the last part to Kagome.

“No, I wouldn't. But he is still a threat.”

Sesshomaru nodded. Everything was silent until Koenma finally spoke up. “The energy that we monitored, the first one was this…demon.”

And then it occurred to them that Koenma didn't know much of what was going on. So they explained it to him.

After having a long conversation with Koenma and Botan, Kagome and Sesshomaru came up with a plan to confront this evil. They just needed to make sure that Greg was on the look out for him. And so life just went on like it was suppose to.

-------15-------

Days passed so quickly that Kagome finally got up one morning and realized that a whole two weeks had gone by, and she asked herself where had the time gone. In some ways it felt like it went really slow and then went really fast. It didn't help that nothing new was found out about this demon. She knew that didn't make much sense, but she could really see it like that. It was more like she remembered the two weeks in snippets of moments, some good and some not so much. Like for instance she could remember when she got to spare with Sesshomaru in front of Yusuke. That was hilarious! The look on his face was like: `Holy Shit! She can kick my ass for real.' It was rather funny. It got even better when Inuyasha joined in. It turned into a game of cat and mouse then until they finally both ganged up on her, and she was pinned down on the floor with Inuyasha tickling me. Kagome thought that it was payback of some kind, it might have to do with a few of the `sit' commands that she had given him the previous month. Maybe that might have done it. Just maybe.

And then there was one not so good moment. It was the first time that Kurama and Kagome finally talked without being interrupted and alone. Now that was an interesting conversation to say the least especially because she ended up talking to both Kurama and Youko. And oddly enough it was Youko that was cool with the secret life. Kurama was pretty cool with it as well. He had a secret life from his mom and step-dad and brother. He understood. And then we started talking about her missions, and that is where Kagome and Kurama had their first major argument about oddly, her job. When she started to tell him of the several different missions that she had gone on by herself he, or rather they, didn't like it to say the least. Apparently, they didn't like her going out by herself to kill demons, no matter how good she was.

And so the argument ended. They never actually finished that argument because Sesshomaru interrupted. And that is the other thing that Kagome had definitely noticed. There was a tension between Sesshomaru and Kurama that never seemed to go away. In fact, as the past two weeks went by it seemed to get even worse. She didn't know how to fix it either. Sesshomaru is not the most talkative person to anyone, besides Kagome on occasion. And even then he was getting a little…weird. He was a little off lately.

Sesshomaru was constantly around her, and that was part of the reason why Kurama and she only got one chance to be alone or finish the argument. Whenever he was around Kagome, she felt a connection to him that wasn't there when she was fifteen or sixteen. Then again he was trying to kill her then; and some part of her knew that she started having feelings for him when they would talk after a long training session. Those conversations usually happened when everyone was asleep. She would finish a bath with him waiting with his back turned. Later they would sit at the hot spring and she would dip her feet in to relax and enjoy. Other talks would be found in a open field close to her camp, close enough for her to walk back, but far enough away so that her sleeping companions would not be disturbed.

For the past two weeks it felt like Sesshomaru was going into overdrive. She realized that he was interested in her, but she made it clear that she was dating Kurama. He was perfect. Sometimes she felt like she wasn't enough for him, like she was inadequate. He was just so romantic and besides her one woman missions he was the most understanding man or demon she had ever met. Yet she couldn't begin to explain the feelings Sesshomaru invoked. On the few occasions that he and she were alone together he would stand that much closer, touch her that much more tenderly, and speak that much more sensually. And if she was being honest with herself Kagome would admit that she was trying to avoid him. She wasn't suppose to feel like this for him! Kurama was perfect. Just the thought of not having him in her life was like she cut out her own heart. Kagome knew that she needed him to live. Nobody would take him from her, but the thought of no Sesshomaru was just as painful.

Kagome shook herself of these thoughts. Maybe she should go downstairs and ask Sagero for some sparing. She needed to take her mind off of men for a few minutes. Maybe she might even fight Kumo and Haruko while she was at it.

Sesshomaru glanced up when the avatar Kurama walked through his office door.

“You have not changed in over five hundred years, Youko.” Sesshomaru said when Kurama was in front of his desk.

“How did you know it was him.”

“Only Youko could steal the device that you are wearing to make it seem like you are a D class demon.”

“Yes, Youko and I both thought that we should talk without Kagome knowing that we are here.” Said Kurama.

“So you are finally able to communicate in your mind. You two are finally merging into one.”

Kurama nodded. “Yes, I have learned many things since then. Some of them were rather disturbing.”

Sesshomaru put down the pen in his hand and learned back in his chair. “You have learned of the agreement that Youko has now broken.”

“Youko says that he did not intend to break the agreement. She is meant to be our mate.”

“When did you see her five hundred years ago?”

“How do you know that he did?”

“Silver fox demons are known for being able to sense there mate when they see them. That is the only way that he could have known who she was when you two met.”

Kurama just stared.

“Youko knew who she was from the moment you looked at her. I assume that when you saw her you knew she was something special, someone like no other. Youko has much influence on you even in the back of you mind.” Sesshomaru stated, but Kurama could tell that he was trying to keep up his calm demeanor. He was not pleased with what he was saying.

“He saw her just before she leaped down into the well. Or so he says.”

“I will not let her go. She is this Sesshomaru's. I have waited for over five hundred years to claim her.”

“So have we.”

“We? You are becoming Youko faster than expected. It is only a matter of time before you are both one.”

“We both know what you are trying to do. We are going to ask you once to stop.” Kurama's voice was steadily rising.

“And what is it I am going?”

“You are trying to sway her. Stop it now.”

“Are you afraid that she will pick me over you?”

No response.

“You know that she does not belong to you officially until you mark her.”

“She is mine. And you know it.” Kurama said instead.

“The fact that you are here tells me that you are afraid that she will choose me above you.” Sesshomaru said as he stood up. His voice rising.

Simultaneously, they both lashed out at one another. The desk with numerous pieces of paper on it was thrown aside. Kurama punched Sesshomaru just as his human disguise disappeared. In retaliation Sesshomaru attempted to slash him with his claws, but Kurama moved out of the way causing the claws to cut the device on his chest, ripping his shirt in the process.

“Rose Whip!”

In response Sesshomaru drew Tokijin.

They fought for a few minutes with sword and whip until they were stuck in a draw with each other (they couldn't use too much demon energy else Kagome notice) at the others throat.

“She is our mate-to-be; there is nothing you can do to stop me!”

“She is mine! I will not give her up!”

“Stop this instant, both of you!” Kagome screamed from the doorway. She was panting as if she had just run up the stairs. She had a look of disappointment and rage on her face that made them both think that she was about to loose it.

Only Kagome could pull off a look like that and still look like a goddess from the heavens. Sesshomaru thought.

Both men felt a calm wash over them with her appearance.

“What do you think you two are doing? I am not an object to be won. I cannot believe the nerve of you, both of you! How dare you treat me like this!” Kagome yelled as she began to cry, tears openly streaming down her face now.

“You…you…how dare you?” Kagome sobbed. She turned and made her way back to the elevator.

“Kagome…” Kurama started to say.

“Leave me alone. I cannot believe you two!” Kagome didn't even bother to turn around. She left the office and disappeared down a now open elevator. The last glimpse Kurama and Sesshomaru got of her from the open door was of her trying to stop her tears. And even after the elevator door closed with a ding, they both could still hear her sobs.

-~-

Kagome jerked her upper body backwards to land on her hands and feet at the same time, avoiding the sword about to cut across her shoulders. She kicked her feet from under herself, knocking the sword out of Haruka's hand. She continued this move to land on her feet. She then twisted around to sweep his feet out from under him. Before Haruka could get back up she jumped onto his chest. He was pinned.

“God, Lady Kagome. You're in a mood. Ouch, that hurt!”

Kagome moved off of him and helped him up. “First Sagero, then Kumo, and now me. What's up?”

“Sorry, I'm just a little distracted. I'm not really paying attention.”

“Nah, it's okay. You want to talk about it?”

“No, I'm fine. Nothing serious. I'm just venting some of my problems.”

“And here I thought that girls used words not swords. Do you need Lord Shippo or Lord Inuyasha to help?”

“Inuyasha is in his office right now, and I don't want to disturb him. He's been working non-stop for the past two weeks.”

“Still trying to find him?”

“Yeah, it's like he disappeared. I'm just waiting for him to show up again.” Kagome shrugged.

“Well, what about Lord Shippo? He should be around here somewhere.”

“No, he's out. I don't know where he is. I saw him this morning, but he left for something. He said he had to go get something or whatever.”

“Ah, sorry?”

“It's okay. This is just as good. Thanks for the help. I really needed to get hit something.”

“Well, I'm always here to help Lady Kagome.”

“Thanks. I'm just glad that today's Saturday. I don't have class.”

“Did you ask Lord Sesshomaru?”

“Nope. But that's a good idea. I should go see if he's not busy! Thanks, Haruka! I'll see you later!” Kagome walked away to head upstairs.

As she walked several people with various questions stopped her. Someone who just wanted to say hello finally stopped her.

“Hello, Lady Kagome. How are you doing today?”

“I'm doing okay, Keiko. Thank you for asking. How are you?”

“Just dandy! Although I'm a little concerned about the demon after you. You could get hurt.”

“I'll be okay, but thanks for the concern. Say hey to your little girl for me.”

“I sure will, Lady Kagome. Have a good day.”

“You, too.”

Kagome was close to the elevator when she felt it. A powerful demon was in Sesshomaru's office. It was Kurama. She couldn't definitely tell his energy from anyone else's. What was he doing here?

“Lady Kagome!” a half-breed shouted.

“Yes?”

“Something's going on in Lord Sesshomaru's office. I was on the elevator a floor below his when I heard crashes.”

Kagome rushed passed him. “Thank you for informing me. I'll take care of it.” Kagome said in passing.

She made her way out of the conference room just a minute later. When she left she made sure it seemed like she was just finishing up a meeting. There was so much activity in this building that no one would notice if no one was in there.

“Yes, sir. I will make sure that is done right away. I hope that you have a wonderful afternoon. Please feel free to enjoy the refreshments before you leave. If you take that door right there you can get back to your car faster.” She paused just a moment at the door to make it seem like there was a response. She fake giggled, making it sound real. “I'll make sure to tell him so, sir. I shall see you next week.”

Kagome shut the door to the conference room. With the impression that she just got out of a meeting done she made her way to the elevators to get to her office. She passed the receptionist desk with a smile at them and waved in greeting.

“Hello, ladies. I hope that you are having a good day?”

Kagome got positive feedback as she passed. But it was clear that she wasn't really paying attention if you knew her. The receptionists seemed to buy it.

She clicked the up button and waited. When it didn't come after a minute, Kagome finally had enough. She could go up the stairs and get there before the elevator even got to her!

Ugh, I don't have time for this! I have to get up there! What could they possibly be fighting for? Kagome thought in frustration. She started to run up the stairs. Thankfully no one was on the stairway because she was moving faster than a normal human should have.

Minutes later she was walking into a was zone or that's what it looked like. Sesshomaru's desk was partially impeded in the wall. Paper was everywhere and the chairs that were in front of his desk were in several pieces. Glass was scattered on the floor. The frame of the glass table was against the other side of the office, on the opposite side of the room were it was previously.

Sesshomaru and Kurama seemed to be in a stalemate. She stood there only long enough to here what made her blood boil.

“She is our mate-to-be; there is nothing you can do to stop me!” Kurama said.

“She is mine! I will not give her up!” Sesshomaru refuted.

“Stop this instant, both of you!” Kagome screamed from the doorway, panting. Her thoughts were running a mile a second.

“What do you think you two are doing? I am not an object to be won. I cannot believe the nerve of you, both of you! How dare you treat me like this!” Kagome yelled as she began to cry, tears openly streaming down her face now. She always cried when she was pissed off; and the fact that they saw her tears made her cry even more.

She had never felt so betrayed in her life. There was a demon out there trying to kill them all, and they were fighting over her! And what was worse they were treating her like an object that they could hang up in a closet.

“You…you…how dare you?” Kagome sobbed. She was so pissed that she couldn't stand to look at them anymore. She turned and made her way to the elevator.

“Kagome…” Kurama started to say.

“Leave me alone. I cannot believe you two!” She left the office and disappeared down a now open elevator.

The elevator doors finally closed after what seemed like forever. Kagome leaned against the metal wall in defeat. She could not believe them. She just…couldn't…

She needed to talk to someone. She needed to get out of the office, away from both of them. She needed advice…she needed Shippo!

-------15-------

Shippo left the flower shop with a dozen orchid flowers in his hand. He had left for a few errands, nothing of importance, when he passed this small flower shop.

Kagome has been under a tremendous amount of stress the past several months. First it was the detectives and then Spirit World. Now it was all of that and then this demon. We didn't even know his name. Shippo could also tell the tension between Sesshomaru and Kurama. You would have to blind and stupid not to notice. He was sure that his mom could tell that something was going on. She was always so observant.

His mother usually liked roses, but Kurama had been giving her an abundance of those just like Sesshomaru has. He had always been partial to orchids so he thought that it would make a perfect gift. He started to whistle a little tune that he had heard from Kagome's massive music collection. Sesshomaru gave her whatever she wanted, including a 120 GB MP3 player that had movies, songs, music videos, games, and pictures. He gave her everything, including his love. It made him wonder when he would finally realize that Kagome didn't need the world; she just needed his love. Although it didn't help his cause with Kurama around. He didn't honestly know who he wanted to be with his mamma. It was a toss up. He liked both of them equally. Sesshomaru has come a long way from being the cold-hearted killer that he use to be. Kurama was a great guy who had also become something more from the conniving thief that he once was. Shippo will admit to himself that he might be a little biased. He had always wanted a father that was a kitsune like him, and Kurama was a step up because he is a Silver Fox demon.

“Hello, Shippo.” A male voice said from behind him.

Shippo started to turn when he saw blackness.

-------15-------

“How did we get here? When I used to know you so well, yeah. But how did we get here? Well, I think I know.” Kagome sang to herself down the sidewalk. She murmured the words so that only those that were close to her could hear it. She didn't care if someone thought she was nuts. She just really didn't give a shit.

“Why so upset, my love?” A man asked as he walked up from behind her.

“What the hell?” She asked as she looked at him. She kept on moving, making sure that she was now going to an alleyway. She just hoped that he wouldn't attack her in front of all these people. He had to speed up to keep up with her increased pace.

“You have a beautiful voice, my sweet. Have you ever thought of going into music? Because you can when we take over. Everyone will love to simply hear your voice.”

They made it to the alleyway.

“Why are you going this? Why?” Kagome demanded.

“Have you reconsidered my proposition?”

“No, the answer is no.”

“I am sorry to hear that, my love. I truly am. I didn't want to take him from you, but I will do anything to get you. Just remember that you brought this upon yourself.”

When he moved Kagome tensed her body and moved into defensive position.

He chuckled. “I am not going to harm you, my love. Just come looking for me when you want him back. But don't take too long. If so I will come to you.” He was backing up as he said this.

“What? Who is he? Who did you take?”

He didn't answer. He turned the corner. Kagome rushed the few steps to the sidewalk to look for him. He wasn't there. He had disappeared like he was never there.
