Chapter Three: "Maybe it's broken."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
The boy clad in green trekked his way up the hellishly long set of stairs. Pouting and wondering to himself were Kagome had gone a few days ago, for the past week, he had come in search for her, and for the past week he had been disappointed. Well, not completely disappointed, he had gotten a few good things out of the ordeal. Good food and constant videogames.
It had been about two months since Yusuke had met Kagome, but since the first day he had been at her house, he had been there almost every day since. Seeing Yusuke at the shrine became a common occurrence. It was almost if there wasn't a time when Yusuke wasn't around. The two had become fast friends, both sharing a destiny not of the normal realm. It was so unnatural that it fit, made it seem more natural.
Though he still didn't know all of her story, or her of his, he did know that for some reason she had an obligation. He did however, know that she was similar to him, that she her fate, much like his, wasn't of the normal kind. He would eventually tell her, but as for now he liked pretending to be a normal guy, even if he was everything but normal.
He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't notice a figure bound over to him. He didn't notice it until it knocked him over. He didn't even have to look to see who it was.
"Hello to you too Souta." He grumbled.
Souta gave him a huge grin, "Hey Yusuke! Great to see you!"
Yusuke rolled his eyes at the young teens antics. "Yeah, since it's been such a long time." He murmured sarcastically. The shook Souta off of him and stood up and looked at the shrine house hopefully.
"You are so predictable for somebody who's known for rearranging peoples faces before they can blink." Souta shook his head in mock disappointment.
"I'm not predictable, if anybody's predictable, it's you. Knocking on the ground has become a pastime for you." He snapped back. "Its not that you're strong enough, I just humor you."
"She's in there." Souta stated calmly.
Yusuke opened his mouth to let a sarcastic reply out, but instead he just stood there blinking at Souta with his mouth open. The boy grinned widely and walked towards the house.
"Now who's predictable?"
It took a few seconds for Yusuke to see that he was being one-upped by a 12 year-old boy. He took off to catch up with the boy and punched the back of his head, causing a bump to form.
"Hey! What was that for?!" Souta whined loudly and scowled at Yusuke.
Yusuke punched the back of his head again. "For not telling me that your sister was here in the first place!"
"Why does it matter?" Souta asked in an attempt to rile up the detective. Yusuke growled at the boy and Souta mentally congratulated himself `Aha! Mission successful! Now if only we can get closer to the house….'
"It matters because I wanted to see your sister this entire week!" Yusuke huffed. "I should give you another lump for giving me such hell about Kago…" he was going to finish. Honestly he was. But it seemed that the Higurashi family had a weird fetish for knocking into people.
"Yusuke, it's so good to see you!" Kagome squealed as she launched herself into his arms, effectively making him stumble.
Yusuke looked down at the girl now latched around his waist and gave her a small embrace before, releasing her from his grasp. He smiled at her briefly before remembering he was angry with her.
"It's not that I'm not happy to see you, because I am, but where have you been?!" he demanded in a tone that allowed no argument, "You can't say that you've been `working late' because I've even slept here a few nights."
Kagome suddenly found her hands very interesting. She looked back at Yusuke to find him with crossed arms, staring her down. "It's a long story." She sighed.
"I want answers Kagome. You've been gone for an entire week. You can start explaining where the hell you were any time now." He glared at her meaningfully, but it didn't last long as she innocently smiled at him.
"Let's go somewhere." She clasped her hands behind her back.
Souta jumped up, "Yeah! Where are we going, Kagome?"
"A date. One that you will not be tagging along on, got it?" Yusuke answered.
"A date?" Kagome stared at him like he had grown a third-eye. It was his turn to smile.
"You bet. After all, you owe it to me don't you, Kagome?" he feigned hurt, "Afterall, I haven't seen you in such a long time, and we need to catch up."
Yusuke didn't even give her a chance to back down from it, he grabbed Kagome's hand and pulled her inside, grinning. "Why, Mrs. Higurashi! You look great today." He smiled at her sweetly.
"What do you want, Yusuke?" she asked, seeing right through him.
Kagome was behind Yusuke mouthing `no' to her mother, but Mrs. Higurashi just smiled.
"I was wondering if you minded me taking Kagome out to a movie, or somethin'."
Waving her hands in the air and shaking her head no, Kagome was making quite a spectacle of herself behind Yusuke. Mrs. Higurashi gave Yusuke a motherly smile. "Of course, call if you're going to be later than nine."
"Will do, Mrs. H. We'll see you later." Yusuke laughed as he pulled Kagome back outside.
"Yusuke! Let me go!" she protested, but her complaints fell upon deaf ears. Or ears that didn't care, either one works. `What I wouldn't do for a subduing necklace right now' she thought to herself as the young spirit detective tugged her along the streets of Tokyo.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
Yusuke had taken her to the park where they had met and sat her down on the bench. Since spring had begun to take its toll, he didn't have to worry about the coldness or snow anymore.
"So now do you want to explain why you were gone so long?" He was standing in front of her with his arms crossed and a frown placed on his face. He barely had time to register her eyes widening as he was lifted from the ground by his shirt and tossed away from Kagome.
"What is it with people and beating me down today?!"
Very suddenly he had a white-haired demon leering down at him. `Is he sniffing me?!" Yusuke noticed that he had ears on the top of his head. "Like Youko…"
"Who the hell are you?!" the demon snarled.
"Hey now buddy, that's my line!" Yusuke jumped to his feet and got into his fighting stance.
"Why is your scent on Kagome?!" he asked sniffing again. "Your scents are all over each other!"
"What's it matter to you anyways? You got some problem?!"
The demon growled and lunged at Yusuke with his claws outstretched. "Iron-reaver-soul-stealer!"
"Inuyasha, SIT!"
Thud.
Yusuke laughed as the Inuyasha plummeted to the ground, leaving a nice sized crater. `Wait…Inuyasha?'
"Your boss? THIS is your boss?" Yusuke asked skeptically. "Well he doesn't match mine by a longshot, but it sure is interesting looking. So what is it?" He tilted his head to the side.
Inuyasha had made his way out of his hole and snarled at Yusuke again. "I've killed things that didn't talk as much as you."
"Inuyasha…" Kagome warned.
Inuyasha lept at Yusuke, fully preparing to break flesh. Yusuke lifted his index finger and braced his arm.
"Spirit Gun!" Yusuke shouted as he let a ball of energy shoot at Inuyasha.
Kagome shouted sit, and the attack just barely missed him. She stood there watching the two, Inuyasha still on the ground, fighting the subduing spell, and Yusuke with his arms behind his back whistling.
"That's an incredible amount of power!" Kagome beamed at him, "I bet that's a very powerful attack!"
Yusuke nodded, soaking up the praise. "Yeah, you have no idea."
Kagome gave him another smile before looking at him seriously. "Don't use it on Inuyasha. He may be mean and crude, but he's still a friend."
Inuyasha had managed to pull himself from the ground yet again. "What do you mean `mean and crude'!?"
Sighing softly, she introduced the two. "Now could you please not kill each other?"
Inuyasha's ears dropped to his head and he glared at Yusuke before crossing his arms and sitting down Indian-style. "I get it Kagome, he may be your friend, but that doesn't mean I don't want to hurt him."
"Sit!"
Nothing.
Yusuke blinked. "Huh. Oh that sucks. Maybe it's broken…Sit!"
