Chapter 4: Remember Us?
Kagome and Sango arrived at their hotel. They checked in and made their way up to their room, 1093.
"Whoa! This room kicks ass!" cheered Sango.
"Oh yeah! It's beautiul!" agreed Kagome.
The room they were in was very elegant. The walls were colored a cranberry color with a matching cranberry carpet. The beds were side by side with a small night stand in between the two of them. There were gold laced curtains hanging from the long, French style doors leading to the patio. Since the two girls were on the 22nd floor of a thirty-five story hotel, the view was amazing.
You could see miles and miles of beautiful, crystal blue water of the beach below. Tourist swarmed on the almost snow white sands. Sango and Kagome squealed.
"Oh my god! Sango, our room is so beautiful! So, what do you want to do first?" Kagome asked excitedly.
Sango yawned.
"The first thing I want to do is sleep! That trip was too long!"
Kagome shrugged.
"Okay, I'm gonna go check out the hotel lobby and see what they have down there. Do you want me to bring you anything?"
"Um, no, I'll be alright. Have fun!" Sango yelled through her pillow.
^_^
Kagome strolled down the hallway leading from her room to the elevator. She noticed that the elevator was only a few turns away. As she stepped inside the elevator she saw an elderly couple inside the elevator car. The couple seemed very content as they were smiling and holding hands. The old man whispered something to his wife and she giggled like a schoolgirl.
Kagome grinned at the couple. There was something about seeing two older people in love that was incredibly endearing. The elevator came to the lobby's floor and Kagome stepped out. As soon as she stepped into the huge room, her eyes widened in amazement.
The floor was a pale marble and looked like glass. There were several stores lined up all around and even a little indoor pool in one of the corners. Kagome decided to go and check out one of the stores.
It was a store that sold ancient artifacts from, judging by the sign, feudal Japan. Kagome entered the store and began to look around. There were all kinds of artifacts from weird looking swords to a really pretty pink ball on a chain.
Kagome walked over to the beautiful necklace. It was oddly life-like for a necklace. Kagome fondled the pink orb and checked the price tag. Kagome gasped in shock.
The pink ball felt like it had a pulse; like it had a life of its own. Kagome, hands shaking, gently laid the jewel back down on its pedestal. As quickly as possible, she fled outside to the gigantic pool.
Breathing raggedly, Kagome settled under one of the canopies that graced the pool. Her mind began to wonder about the jewel.
`Why did it pulse like that when I touched it?' `Was it real?' `Maybe Inuyasha could've help me decide.'
Kagome's mind gradually wandered from the jewel to the young man she had met earlier. He was feisty, that was for sure. His spirit was wild and free, and he seemed to deeply care about his friend, Miroku, was it? Miroku was defiantly a lecher, but Inuyasha seemed to care for Miroku, possibly even love him like a brother. `Hmm, Inuyasha…'
Kagome still couldn't get over his eyes. She didn't know if they were human or not. When he looked at her, she felt hot and cold at the same time. Inuyasha was a living example of the saying `the eyes are like a window to the soul'. Sure his spirit was wild, but compared to his eyes, it was like a tamed kitten. And his hair. Kagome had never seen such radiant hair before. It looked like spun silk.
Although he was wild, Inuyasha seemed like- `Wait, why am I even thinking of him?' Kagome thought nervously. `He has a major chip on his shoulder! I can't believe he called me a bitch! What was his problem?! I swear if I ever see him again I'll strangle him to death!'
Kagome hastily stifled her mind and gazed out over the pool.
^_^
Inuyasha and Miroku had arrived at their hotel, The Emerald Sands. (a/n: Crappy name, so what? Bite me! 0_0) They came up to the reception desk and began to check in.
"Hey, Inuyasha, why don't you look around and I'll check us in, okay?" Miroku offered.
Inuyasha instantly knew Miroku was up to something. He had known Miroku all his life and could read him very well. He knew all of Miroku's secrets, including that he came from a long line of present-day monks. And in turn, Miroku knew all of his secrets, especially about him being a demon.
Miroku understood about his line of heritage. Miroku knew he was a hanyou, or half demon. His mother was a mortal while his father was a full demon, or youkai.
Inuyasha glanced at the reception desk. A very voluptuous young women was standing at her post giggling flirtatiously at Miroku. Inuyasha sighed.
"Whatever lech, I'll be checkin' out the lobby. Meet me there when you finish oogling that woman over there." Inuyasha pointed in the direction of the lady.
Miroku grinned and nodded.
Inuyasha walked around until he upon something startling and confusing at the same time.
`What's that smell?' he thought. `I've smelled that scent before.'
Inuyasha followed his nose into an ancient shop and sniffed lightly. He knew the scent didn't stop here, but what puzzled him into following it here was another familiar scent mixed in along with the smell of earth as well as the one he was currently following. Fear. It was the smell of fear. He recognized the spike and it's unnatural waves of energy flowing silently through the air.
He recognized the familiar scent now. It was Kagome's. `But what's she doing here? And why is there fear laced in with her scent?'
Inuyasha pondered lightly about the girl whose scent had invaded his senses. Like her, it was beautiful, he couldn't even describe how it smelled. Although he had just met her, he felt connected to her in a way he never thought he could.
Maybe it was her eyes. Those chocolate pools of emotion could bring the strongest beast down to the ground. When he argued with her on the plane, he felt bad for making her angry, but liked the way her eyes sparked up, showing him that she was angry.
Or maybe it was her hair. The way it flowed, she looked like some kind of river goddess. When he first saw her, he was tempted to just run his hands through it.
But the thing that startled him the most about Kagome was that she looked almost exactly like Kikyo. `Kikyo…'
Inuyasha remembered how much he loved Kikyo. She was the reason he was so insecure about his demon side. He remembered how Kikyo claimed her love for him, but ended up leaving him because his demon side didn't "appeal" to her. He remembered how she hurt him, how she hardened his heart. For the first time since his mother had died, he felt loved.
But that was a long time ago. Inuyasha knew he'd never forget Kikyo and her betrayal, but he knew he had to move on. He knew Kagome was nothing like Kikyo because Kagome seemed warm and expressive, while Kikyo was cold and withdrawn.
Inuyasha decided to keep following Kagome's scent. It smelled so good and was fading inside of the store. He trailed the scent outside to the pool.
^_^
Sango stretched and yawned loudly.
"Ahh! That feels better! I wonder where Kagome went?"
Sango rose from the bed and walked outside to the large balcony. She gazed down at the beach and noted that the water was a purplish hue. It reminded her strangely of Miroku.
`Miroku. He seemed really intelligent and he's really, really cute. If only he weren't such a lecher… wait, why am I even considering being with him? It's not like he could ever be interested in someone like me. I'm too plain.'
Sango sighed in remorseful defeat. She looked at the clock that read 4:00. She grabbed her purse and keys and decided to go and get some lunch.
Sango entered the lobby and decided to eat at one of the open restaurants. She ordered her food and sat down. Soon her mind drifted.
`Why would anyone be interested in me anyway? He likes curvy women, bimbos. And I am definitely no bimbo. Still, if he wasn't so lecherous, I'm sure he could be a gentleman. Maybe.'
While Sango contemplated Miroku, she had no idea he was watching her with an admiring sparkle in his eyes.
^_^
After Miroku had flirted endlessly with the curvy hotel attendant, he went off in search of Inuyasha. He thought about what happened on the plane earlier that day.
`I met the most beautiful girl. Sango. It's strange how one word coming from her can hurt so much. Lecher. Sure, Inuyasha has called me that plenty of times, but Inuyasha is no Sango of course. When Sango said it, it hurt like hell.'
Of course, being Miroku, he retained his usual cool, calm composure, making it seem like it was nothing. Something about Sango made her like a magnet. Miroku would bet all his money that Sango didn't even know how sexy and seductive she really was to him. Her name alone sent chills down Miroku's spine.
`If I were to ask Sango out and if she said yes, I think I'd die. I'd love her and only her. Oh well, just a small fantasy. Where the hell is Inuyasha?' Miroku thought.
Miroku began to wander through the lobby in search of Inuyasha when he caught sight of the most beautiful thing he ever saw.
^_^
Inuyasha continued to follow Kagome's scent outside by the pool. That was probably one of the worst things he could have done in his demon form.
As soon as the chlorine filled air hit Inuyasha's nose, he instantly felt nauseated. Being a dog demon has its advantages, but with every advantage, there's usually a disadvantage.
Inuyasha's sensitive nose twitched and burned in response to the chemical filled air. He suddenly felt dizzy, overcome with the sickening stench. He could still faintly smell Kagome, but her scent was quickly fading. The last thing Inuyasha remembered was Kagome yelling his name as he slipped into oblivion.
^_^
Kagome was in heaven. The air was so relaxing. Kagome was enjoying her time by the pool, when she thought she saw a flash of silver across the pool. She looked a little closer and her face paled. `It couldn't be! It's not him… is it? That can't be Inuyasha!' Kagome wondered.
She saw the mysterious boy turn around and gasped. It was him. Kagome was overjoyed to see him for some reason. She felt like she had been away from him forever.
But something wasn't right. His face was pale and he looked sick. Kagome instantly began to worry. She got up from her chair and made her way towards him. Suddenly he dropped.
"Inuyasha!" Kagome yelled.
She rushed toward him despite the worried glances she were getting from some of the people around them.
Kagome's heart was rising in her chest as she kneeled beside Inuyasha. He looked pasty white. Kagome reached out and brushed his cheek. She reached for his hat and was about to tug it off when she felt a hand on her wrist yank hers away.
Kagome jumped in surprise and looked down at Inuyasha. His eyes slowly opened and locked gazes with hers.
"K-kagome, please, help me get out of here." Inuyasha pleaded.
Kagome nodded. Just as she bent down to grab his arms, Inuyasha snatched himself away and pushed Kagome backwards. She screamed as her body connected with the icy cold water of the pool behind her.
Inuyasha, along with several other people laughed and sneered and pointed at Kagome as she surfaced and gasped for air.
Kagome looked around mortified at the people around her who were laughing. Then she set her gaze on Inuyasha, who perhaps, was laughing the loudest.
Kagome's eyes filled with water in embarrassment. Her vision blurred as she climbed out of the pool.
Inuyasha immediately regretted his actions as soon as he looked at Kagome. He could smell the salt of her tears and instantly felt like a sadistic idiot.
^_^
Sango finished her noodles and threw away her trash. As she started off back towards the elevator, she thought she saw someone who looked suspiciously like Miroku.
Sango, after staring at the young man across the room, decided against it. She started toward the elevator once more. As she turned a corner, she missed the `Wet Floor' sign.
Sango's arms flew out as she fought to keep her balance. She ended up losing the battle and slipped anyway. But before she could hit the ground, she felt a pair of strong, warm arms wrap around her waist and yank her upwards.
Sango was raised up to a pair of eyes that were so blue, they seemed violet. It was Miroku.
"So, we meet again, fair Sango. How've you been?" Miroku smirked.
Sango was utterly shell-shocked.
"How--where-h-how did you get here?!" Sango stuttered.
Miroku grinned perversely at their compromising position. Sango was underneath and between his legs. And the fact that she was blushing only made her look all the more tantalizing.
"Well, Inuyashsa's---" Miroku was cut short by Kagome who ran by and seemed incredibly upset.
Sango watched, instinctively concerned for her best friend. She wanted to go and find out but she didn't mind the current position either. She looked up at Miroku, who was gazing down at her with a content expression.
Miroku moved closer to Sango as she leaned in toward him. Just when their lips were about to meet, Sango snapped out of her trance. She didn't want to leave Miroku, but she had to check on Kagome. So she did the only thing she could think of.
She dragged him toward the elevator, determined kicking whoever made Kagome upset's ass.
