Chapter 26
I am the Great Captain Miroku!

“Come about!” Miroku yelled. He had no idea, that operating Inuyasha's ship would catch so much attention. He was surprised; out of nowhere, a black schooner similar to Inuyasha's came into sight.

They had been a sail for a week. The warm waters began to clash with the cold waters of the Atlantic. Miroku needed to re-route his course. However, now he needed evasive action. They where under attack, and would rather deal with the wrath of Mother Nature.

“Damn!” Miroku seethed. He wasn't sure who was attacking them. Of course, pirates aren't all the same. Inuyasha mostly robbed the rich, even with the war brewing out west. Many armored ships carried weapons…and guns paid well. However, that to was too risky; so he just robbed merchants.

Where they buccaneer's? Those ugly, mean, and smelly men that loved to drink, rape, plunder, and murder. On the other hand, where they Privateer's? Who were paid to loot with their letter of marquee; which gave them ample leeway to do whatever they wanted. Well, whoever they were, this made Miroku mad. “How dare you call yourself pirates!” he yelled, hoping that the other ship heard him.

Although it was common that pirates robbed from each other, Miroku had no qualms about letting them know that he would fight to the finish...even if it cost him his life. He would fight; not only for the protection of his love, but also a promise not to harm Inuyasha's ship.

A loud ringing sound, whizzed by his head, only to land past the bowsprit as the black ball splashed, splattering water over the bow. “That was close,” he thought. He gave a cocky smile, “is that all you got!”

Miroku needed to go broadside of their ship. He was grateful Inuyasha's ship was fast…very fast. Yet, he knew if he lost. He shook his head. He refused to lose. Miroku would die with honor. Even if he also was a pirate, he would fight to the death. He couldn't bear to see Sango taken. He didn't want to think of what they might do to her.

Sango ran out when she heard the commotion outside. “Are we under attack?” she asked frantically. She saw her fiancé waving his fist fiercely in the air. “Miroku, what in God's name are you doing? Have you lost your mind?”

“Ah, Sango, it's so lovely to see you my dear.” He said with a hint of mirth. “No love they're only warning us. If they're thinking about wanting to board and take our loot, I surly will not let that happen.”

Another cannon ball flew by, this time closer to the stern. The water splashed with such velocity that it covered the back of the ship. “Damn it!” Miroku hissed.

They were traveling as fast as the wind would carry them. Yet the rough waters of the Atlantic made their haste bumpy. Men were sick and the vile stench of vomit filled the air. The boat was being thrown end-over-end due to the forceful waters; as the bow was now crashing through the powerful seas. The deck was wet, and became slick. However, the constant pitching only made the seawater fall to the depths below.

“Inuyasha is going to kill me!” Miroku hissed. `To bad Shippo wanted to stay behind,' he pondered. If Shippo where here, he laughed. “Shippo would have a field day with these men.” He said aloud.

“Not only is Inuyasha going to kill you, but I am as well Captain!” Sango spoke with venom. She was wet, queasy, and wanted to get out of this situation alive. To bad, her fiancé was a lunatic. “Yes it is too bad that Shippo isn't here, otherwise we wouldn't be dealing with death.” She crossed her arms. “You better fix this Miroku or else.”

Miroku smiled at her, “I promise you Sango we will get out of this alive. I know what I`m doing.” He grabbed her hand, leading her towards the stern.

“Where are we going?” She asked while passing frantic men carrying on with their tasks. Sango didn't understand half of what they were saying with all their nautical terms. However, she admired their skills and dedication to keeping the ship a sail.

Heading towards the rear of the ship, he made it to the bridge; he stopped and looked at the tired man. He knew steering the boat was not an easy task, and treading in these waters was suicidal. The Atlantic is unmerciful, and many ships lay at the bottom of her depths.

Squalls where common and so where hurricanes, however, saving his ass and Sango's was well worth the risk. He too was excellent with his seamanship, and was all too familiar with the frigid sea.

“How are you holding up?” Miroku asked the middle-aged man.

“I'll be alright sir.”

“Very well, I will send a replacement soon.”

“Aye, Captain.”

Miroku grabbed Sango's hand and continued to lead her to the stern. The ship behind them was uncomfortably close. Grabbing the telescope Inuyasha kept on the ledge of the helm. Opening the device, he could see that they weren't buccaneers or privateers. Which was good on their part, for they also carried the Jolly Roger flag, underneath lay a plain white flag. “They're surrendering.”

“What! How are you certain?” She asked hastily. “What if it's a trap?”

He considered it a trap, yet it puzzled him why they felt the need to surrender. They were firing at us first. However, their aim was precise and if they truly wanted to, they could've blown us out of the water. He continued to watch the men, and then he saw someone very familiar to him, “Inuyasha!” he stated aloud. He shook his head that isn't Inuyasha.

“A vast ye mates!” Miroku shouted. He watched the men stop their movements. Miroku turned to the men again. “Bring us Broadside of their ship, and raise the yellow flag.”

After hearing the man regard his orders, he lifted the narrow scope up again. Miroku watched curiously, who this man was. In addition, why was there a striking resemblance to his Captain? He shook his head and just though it was a coincidental likeness.

Miroku wrapped his arms around Sango's firm waist holding her tightly. They leaned in with the turning of the ship. The big sea crashed over the bow, and again Miroku cursed. He would have to make sure no damage was done below. He was grateful that the water wasn't enough to swamp the ship.

The crewmembers made sure that the ropes holding the giant sails, where knotted and secure. Having a loose sail could cause major problems aboard. Yet could always be repaired, it would just take time out of their journey.

Miroku smiled, Inuyasha's ship was definitely seaworthy. Looking at his crew, he commanded his men to make sure they were armed. He would attack first if any foul play came into hand. He looked at his men, “Only on my command.” He made sure a man was sitting in the stairwell, where the cabins where to yell to the men, who where already loading the cannons.

The sails were lowered as they drifted towards the other ship. Miroku ordered, “Drop the anchors!”

Sango approach Miroku. “Sango go hide! I don't want them seeing a woman aboard this vessel. It is too dangerous for you. I love you.” He kissed her on the lips, softly yet quickly. He never wanted to break the kiss, and did love the way her face flushed a rosy red every time he touched her. Turning her around Miroku smacked her rear. “Go!”

Sango narrowed her eyes coldly as she returned to her room only to slam the door shut behind her. Miroku chuckled, loving her fiery attitude.

Coming closer to the now still vessel, he gulped. Steeling himself to face the unexpected, he gave a cocky grin, “Ahoy, gentleman what seems to be the trouble?”

The man with the long white hair pushed his men aside. His look was phlegmatic, and rigorous. His voice was callous and direct, “I'm Captain Sesshomaru." He raised his brow, "Is this not Captain's Inuyasha's Ship?”

Miroku tried to swallow the lump that had been forming in his throat. Why was he so interested in Inuyasha? He was sure going to find out. “Captain Sir. My name is Miroku; Captain Inuyasha left me in charge.”

Sesshomaru glanced coldly at the man before him. His hand gripped the hilt of his sword tightly. He was pleased to see that his younger brother's ship was seaworthy. “Miroku was it. That's not what was asked?”

Miroku gulped, the coldness in his voice sent shivers down through his core. “My sincere apologizes, Captain.” He bowed his head respectfully before continuing, “Captain Inuyasha had urgent business to attend to, and we will rendezvous six months from now. But I don't see that being any of your concern.”

Sesshomaru growled, and the men that boarded with him, drew their swords in honor of their Captain. They would fight to the death then let someone question his authority. He glanced back at his crew, and then towards his brother's. “I'm here peacefully, at ease men.” He was pleased when his crew re-sheathed their swords as well as the others. “I will have no bloodshed on this ship.”

“And what right is your claim! Being this is not your ship, “Miroku hissed, while placing his sword up against the captain's throat.

The tall regal man looked down, at the black haired boy. “Pray tell, you've heard of me? Or maybe, you're just suicidal!” Sesshomaru flexed his claws, as a green acid, dropped on the wood, singing the deck. “Do you honestly think, a sword would harm me? Just think of what I can do to you before you even strike.”

Sesshomaru's threat real, Miroku eased the sword back; but still held it closely to his neck. “Captain Sesshomaru was it?" Miroku watched intently as the captain before him held his stoic glare. “I did ask you, what your business is with Captain Inuyasha.” Miroku knew the dangers, with the white hair demon before him. He had never heard Inuyasha talk of him. He only knew that Inuyasha was taken care of by a pirate--but he didn't know by whom?

Sesshomaru stood intent. He didn't need to explain himself to this man...who seemed hell-bent on letting up on his inquiries. No matter, Sesshomaru killed men for less; who stood in his way. Fortunately, for Miroku, he would deal with his brother's crew. "I told you that my business is with Inuyasha. I will not leave this ship until matters are dealt with."

Miroku narrowed his eyes, but drew back his sword, and re-sheathed it. Crossing his arms, he held a confident look. "And I told you Sir! That Inuyasha is not here." However, the stoic captain wasn't budging.

Sesshomaru looked at his men and gave them a nod. A few hands of his crew where sent to go back to his ship. With rank already taken care of, he waited for his men to bring his belongings. "Miroku was it?" he asked snidely. "I will be staying on your ship until I find my brother. I hope and pray tell that is all the information you require."

Miroku looked stunned, "his brother?" He began rubbing his forehead in contemplation. Miroku was about to protest but was suddenly silenced.

"I will be staying on board, and I will need a suitable cabin. I will take only a handful of my men to help with the duties on board this ship."

Miroku nodded. How could he refuse Inuyasha's' brother? "I have a cabin for you, but aren't their some rules Captain?"

Sesshomaru quirked an eyebrow, "Rules! I heed to no ones rules! I will be taking over as Captain!"

"The hell you will!" Miroku yelled once again drawing his blade.

Sango, curious by nature, slowly cracked open the door, she knew she was forbidden to be seen by the other crew. However, with all the commotion, her inquisitiveness had gotten the better of her, and she just had to sneak a peek. She gasped seeing the tall handsome man arguing with her beloved husband to be. What was worse was now watching Miroku trying to take on the taller demon. "Demon?" this isn't what she wanted to witness and she needed to do something before Miroku was killed.

Without thinking, she pushed the door open and ran out of the room screaming, "stop! Please don't hurt him!"

Koga just released Hojo, from his quarters. Shaking his head, he had to give the boy credit. Koga was pleased that Hojo would see his orders through and complied gracelessly.

Hojo knew that he would not be boarding again and was giving a heavy purse for his troubles. Hojo was pleased, he would be able to go home and see his family. Although, lying was a problem, he knew very well that Kagome and Koga were not together. He shook his head of his impure thoughts about the woman on board.

He was a married man after all, and lusting for another was simply taboo. Even though the one he lusted was a half-demon prized possession and would surly lose his life.

Hojo was awestruck when he saw the woman who he solely desired, sitting near the bowsprit. He wanted so badly to approach her. Yet, he just stood their, until a larger shadow loom over him. He could feel his heart race. Instinct told him to continue on his daily duties until they ported.

"Isn't there something you should be doing, besides staring at my mate?"

Hojo gulped, he should've realized that it was Captain Inuyasha. He was never to far from her. "Yes sir," he said timidly.

"Good, go see to it!"

"Yes Sir!" Hojo walked away quickly. He wore a scout on his face, and gave a malicious smile. Tomorrow he would exact his revenge, even though he wouldn't get the prize of the lovely Kagome. However, in his twisted thoughts, he concluded: "If I couldn't have her, then neither will he." He laughed and continued calking the ship.

Inuyasha watched Hojo retreat. He heard the cynical laugh and wanted to gut him through. He didn't trust that boy...of course he didn't trust anyone looking at his woman. Snorting, with a new pride he smiled at Kagome as she continued writing her letter in the warm rays of the sun.
