Chapter 28
Sesshomaru's True Intent

Inuyasha, tried to remain calm. His eyes grew cold, and callous. He knew that he couldn't kill him. Even though, the thought of Hojo's death would be reprimanding. He never liked the boy—never liked the way he would stare at his mate.

Yet, as badly as he wanted the boy dead, he knew he could not go through with the deed. Hojo needed to be unharmed—he needed to deliver the letter to the general. However, first he must answer to what he did to upset his mate so badly.

Approaching the young man, he smelt the fear emanating off the boy. He basked in it the refreshing scent. Inuyasha narrowed his eyes and flexed his claws as he growled in front of the terrified young man. Inuyasha watched the guilt contort over Hojo's face. This infuriated him even more.

“Shippo, tell me what happened?” Inuyasha asked coldly, as he stared down at the boy. He tightly clenched his fist at his side, feeling the warmth of his blood seeping out of his palm as it dripped onto the wooden deck.

Hojo couldn't believe how much trouble he was in. He should have listened to the elder wolf demon. Now he was face to face with the Captain, and wasn't sure if he'd ever see his family again. He struggled against the fox demon, but it was in vain. Even if he was able, to escape there was nowhere to go…water and bloodthirsty pirates surrounded him.

“Captain, I heard your mate in distress…I couldn't make out the entire conversation, but I did hear him call her a whore. I also had to protect Kagome… for whatever she did, made Hojo want to attack!” Shippo stood stunned as Inuyasha completely lost his temper. “What punishment do you wish for him, Captain?”

Hojo couldn't even look at the pirate. The Captain's golden eyes held no remorse, and it terrified him even more. Maybe if he pleaded with the captain, he would show pity. It was a chance he was willing to take. Hojo was truly petrified, and fought the urge to soil his pants.

Inuyasha growled, “Death!” He smiled seeing Hojo's eyes widen. Then he smelt the rancid stench of urine. He looked down only to see that his conformation was right. The boy pissed himself, and he couldn't contain his laughter as he roared loudly; earning inquisitive glances from the crew.

Kagome sat idly on the bed, when she heard a sudden knock on the door, “Are you decent?” She heard Koga ask.

“Of course…” Kagome responded, dryly.

`What is he thinking?' Shaking off the recent comment, she looked up at the wolf, as he held up a jug and two cups.

“Well…?” he asked smiling. “This fine drink will cure any ailment.” Walking over the desk, he sat down in his chair. Placing the cups on top of his desk, he began to poor the strange brew.

Ignoring the offered beverage, she glanced at the wolf captain. “What is Hojo's fate?” She was nervous, and was afraid of what her mate might do to him. Even though she was upset with the boy, she knew she would face many more degrading comments. `It was his opinion to feel that way.' She thought. However, the very notion of her sleeping with him was downright nauseating. Kagome narrowed her eyes, `he had no right whatsoever to imply any sexual innuendo's with me. He'd pushed to far, and now that incident could very well cost him his life…, regardless of Koga's plea.'

That drink was starting to sound good, as she stood from the bed and joined him at the desk.

Koga smiled, “Drink first, then we'll talk!”

Miroku groaned; was he dead? No, he wasn't but it sure did feel like he was. He opened his eyes slowly, as he proceeded to rub his sore jaw. “What happened?” he asked aloud, not realizing that he was not alone.

“Sesshomaru happened.”

Miroku tried to smile, but it hurt too badly. He was lucky that the captain didn't break his jawbone. “Sango…? You're okay!”

Sango leaned over him, smoothing out his hair from his sweat-covered brow. “Of course, I am love.” She smiled warmly at him. “However, you're not and you need to get some rest.”

Miroku closed his eyes reflecting on the fight. “I'm sorry I failed you! I wasn't strong enough to beat him.”

“Shhh…” She said lovingly, as she continued to caress his face. “As you can see, I'm alive and well.”

Miroku smiled warmly—at least tried to without hissing in pain. He could only imagine how his face looked like right now. “How bad is the damage?” He however couldn't help but ask. He didn't care if he sounded vain and just wanted to be sure that there wasn't permanent scarring.

Sango chuckled, “Always the modest!” she joked. Even if he didn't see the humor. She sighed, “Love, it's a bit red…maybe some bruising. But, it will go away in a couple of days—nothing to concern yourself with.” Which reminded her, as she narrowed her eyes with a fierceness to protect? “You know it could have been a lot worse. What in the hell were you thinking, taking on a full blooded demon?”

Miroku sat up slightly, leaving the comfort of his soft pillow. He looked at her shocked. “I had to defend you…! If you would have just listened to me and stayed in the damn room…none of this would have happened!” He didn't mean to sound so harsh…but the scenario could have turned out much worse, and he could have lost her.

Sesshomaru stood alone, watching the skies. He could smell a storm brewing off west. He growled as his long white hair danced freely around him. He knew this wasn't good and was in no mood to deal with a sudden squall.

Although, the wind was still in their favor and the seas were still calm. Sesshomaru knew in less than an hour that Poseidon would soon ascend his wrath upon them.

He sighed; he hoped that the storm would pass and they wouldn't have to ride it out. He knew the dangers with sudden squalls, he being the only survivor, when his father's ship, was swallowed completely by a rouge wave. Shaking the memory away, he turned his attention to the crew. “Batten down! Make sure the entire ship is secured!” He wasn't about to take any chances.

Pleased that his orders where taken seriously, he headed towards the quarters to check on Miroku.

“Please Captain…I have a family…I meant no harm!” Hojo tried to reason with Inuyasha.

“And why should I care about your family…you sure didn't care about my mate! You're wasting my time!” Inuyasha snarled, as he raised his arm to give the final blow.

With his deadly claws extended he was going to rip the boy's head completely off. However, he never expected Shippo to intervene and grab his wrist, suddenly stopping him from making the final blow.

“Captain…I'm sorry, but you cannot kill him!” Shippo said sternly. “This will not solve anything, but only complicate matters.” He knew that he was deifying his captain, and would probably suffer the consequences later. “Captain, there is nobody who is capable of delivering the letter...except perhaps Kagome!”

Hojo cautiously opened his eyes. He didn't even realized that they had been closed. For a brief moment, he was thankful of the fox's intervening; he thought for sure that Inuyasha would have succeeded in beheading him otherwise. He was surly embarrassed, not only was he scared shitless; he wet his pants like the yellow-bellied coward that he knew he was. He said a quick prayer. He prayed never to mess with another man's woman ever again. In this, case a half demon's mate.

Inuyasha growled, “No! Kagome does not want to face her father. I cannot say that I blame her.” He looked down at Hojo. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you!” He snarled.

Koga sat patiently as he explained to Kagome that Hojo's life would be spared. He also reassured her that Inuyasha wouldn't harm him in a life threatening manner. “I promise you love, that Inuyasha wouldn't jeopardize the mission. I have complete confidence that he will see to a proper punishment for the boy.”

That didn't mean Kagome felt confident with his answer…this was her mate they were discussing here. She felt numb; the rum-mix was defiantly good. She began to feel hot all over, more so than she did sitting out in the sun. She'd finished her first cup and pushed it towards Koga. She watched him as he poured her another drink. “But, what if he does? What if he killed him already?” she asked, as her words slurred slightly.

“Nonsense…I would have smelt it.” Koga smirked, taking a healthy swig of his drink.

“I guess I'll never understand why people need to hate each other because of what people look like on the outside.—I mean...why cant people see each other for who they're!” She picked up her glass, her sapphire eyes never leaving his now stunned eyes. “I'm mated to a half demon and that is forbidden.” She could feel herself getting angrier. “It's my choice…I shouldn't be judged by whom I wish to share my life with!”

Koga didn't say anything. What could he say? If she needed to vent, then he would listen.

Kagome slammed her fist down on the wooden desk, as Koga quickly grabbed his glass before it spilled into his lap. She stood up, angered. “What I do care about…is being called a whore! And, Hojo implying that I sleep with him. He even had the nerve to tell me he'd pay a fine price!” She said exasperated, as she grabbed her glass and finished her brew.

“He did what!” Koga snarled. “Stay here Kagome…I'll return shortly.”

“W-what…? Wait…! What are you going to do?”

Koga just turned and looked at her. “It's nothing you need to concern yourself with.” With that, he left her alone in the quarters, and ignored her intimidating glare.

Sesshomaru entered the room, quietly. He chuckled slightly; he was able to hear the argument from outside; “Please? don't let me stop you two on my account.” He said with a bored expression as he approached his brother's desk sitting down in the large chair. The silence was utterly disturbing, and the angry glares that were coming from the two were comical.

Miroku growled, “Captain? What is the meaning of this?” Why was he here? “Why didn't you finish me off? I assume you're here to do just that!” He could feel Sango's hand touch his, trying to sooth him. Which he tried to do…but he was angry, and his head was killing him.

Sesshomaru once again found amusement with the two. “As you know I'm a pirate—a good one at that! Unfortunately, I am retiring. That is why I seek my brother.”

“Retiring…?” Miroku asked a bit taken back.

“Yes, I want to find a mate and settle down. I've found my fortune, and will live a comfortable life.” He picked up a quill pen, and played with the feather, running it through his clawed hands. He narrowed his eyes. “I will hand over everything to my brother.”

Miroku stood up, despite his protesting body. “Captain Inuyasha doesn't even know that you're his brother! How well do you think he will take the news?”

“I have reasons, why I didn't tell him long ago…I guess I was ashamed that I had a mere half-breed for a brother—but nonetheless, I trained him well and respected his ambitious nature.”

“Then why couldn't you tell us this in the first place…instead of threatening me, my fiancé, and my crew!” Miroku stated.

Sesshomaru sighed; he hated repeating himself. “Like I said, I'm a pirate and I needed to see if you were a worthy opponent!” he could feel a headache coming on.

“You sure do have a fucked up way of going about it!” Miroku hissed; he had a swollen jaw…because he wanted to see if I was worthy enough to face him. He smiled, “Well am I?” he knew it was stupid of him to ask. He wasn't lying at the bottom of Davy Jones's Locker.

“For a human…you're good—although you did train from my brother.” Sesshomaru smiled with a great sense of pride. “I see he's taught you well.”

“Captain Inuyasha is a great leader and a well-liked friend. He will be pleased, that his greatest admirer was his very own brother.” Miroku smiled, “he always spoke highly of you…so welcome aboard Captain!”

Sesshomaru stood, and bowed politely. “However, Miroku as much as I would love to tell you a tale; your services are needed…there seems to be a very violent storm due west, and it's approaching us quickly.”

Miroku sighed, “How long?”

“About an hour…, give or take. I'm not as young as I use to be…? However, my nose is still resourceful.”

“Miroku…, you don't plan on going through the storm…do you?” Sango asked concerned.

“Sango…I cannot say for sure, but the way the wind is scented…I don't think we have much of a choice.” Sesshomaru replied.

Miroku nodded, “very well.” He turned to Sango, “Please stay close…I don't know what to expect with this storm.” He watched Sango nod, then followed Sesshomaru topside.

Koga approached Inuyasha. He then looked at Hojo, giving him a menacing smirk. “Well, I never thought to see the day I would be agreeing with you…Inuyasha!”

Inuyasha's ears twitched, as he regarded the wolf. “Now why would you say that? You just told me I couldn't kill him!” He gruffly voiced.

Koga snarled, “That is until your mate told me what happened!” He could see the frightened look on the boys face.

Hojo broke…he couldn't take the pressure anymore. “Please…,” he begged. “I'm so sorry…; I don't know what came over me! Please spare my life.”

Koga looked at his friend, “Inuyasha? If Hojo dies, who do we have to substitute him?”

Inuyasha narrowed his golden eyes, as he fought the inner turmoil of releasing his inner beast who demanded retribution towards his mate. “Well, that all depends on what Kagome said…doesn't it? And, from the way you're responding…I take it's not good.”

Koga nodded, “No, Inuyasha. I'm afraid not.”

“Is Kagome okay?” Inuyasha asked. He wished he could be there holding her, and comforting her.

“Well…”Koga hesitated. “You can say I left her with something…that would help.” He said, trying to be discreet as possible.

Inuyasha snarled, baring his fangs, “Wolf…I'm already pissed off…don't make me kill you as well! What did you give my mate?”

Koga didn't think of the percussions getting someone else's mate drunk, “Well she was almost done with her second glass of Bumboo.” He could see his friend gripping his hands tighter into a fist. Koga began to back away from Inuyasha. “Look, I only did it to calm her!”

“Calm her…you know what happened to me the last time she was drunk!” Inuyasha exclaimed, seeing the bewildered wolf. “Believe me Koga, you don't want to know!” Inuyasha said with a tinge of dread; hoping nothing on his body would be harmed, because of his feisty mate.

Kagome sat impatiently as she downed her third glass of Bumboo. She frowned when there wasn't much left. Standing up, she tried to regain her balance. She was drunk, and it felt great, `Koga was right this was a good ailment.' She thought, as she stood from her seat.

Her legs felt shaky, as she caught her balance. With a giddy laugh, she focused on her surroundings. Everything was so blurry. She growled, trying to steady herself. She couldn't let all the boys have the fun, plus she needed something more to drink. Managing to make it to the door, she frowned when she had a couple of steps to deal with. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, and then continued upstairs. Opening the door, she covered her eyes, from the blinding sun-yet, welcomed the warm breeze.

Inuyasha turned, along with Koga, as they smelt Kagome leaving the safety of her quarters. Inuyasha crossed his arms. “You know wolf…this is your fault!”

Koga growled, “Yeah, yeah…like I've never heard that before. I'll take care of Hojo! After all…I hired him!”

Koga turned his attention to Shippo. “Get some rope, and tie him to the main mast, tightly! Make sure he gets no food or water. He will be dealt with accordingly.”

“Yes, Captain.”

Koga approached the frightened boy, “Consider yourself lucky!” He snarled, as he rendered Hojo unconscious. Shaking his fist, Inuyasha approached behind him.

“Have you figured that out yet?” Inuyasha snorted, “Kill or be killed that is the question?” he mocked.

Koga chuckled, “Come I bet your mate is already lost, and ended up in someone's *berth.” Koga laughed loudly seeing the look of pure rage on his friends face as Inuyasha raced down the stairs.
