InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A Cinderella Stroy ❯ New Father ( Chapter 1 )
Kagome sat watching the man her mother paraded in front of them. He smiled and she felt herself flinch. There was something in that look that warned her. Still she returned the smile. A soft child's cry could be heard and her mother ran off to tend to the new baby. Kagome felt her gut clench as the man took a step closer.
"You have your mother's hair."
She felt herself relax, this was something almost everyone commented on. "Ojisan says I have my father's eyes."
His face twisted in rage and his fist contacted her jaw. She went flying, her tiny body sprawled across the cold stone floor. He lifted her by the front of her smock and growled into her face.
"You will never mention him again." A dark glint came into his eyes as he smirked at her. "And if you tell your mother…I'll kill you both."
Kagome closed her eyes to hold back the tears and nodded. He set her down and she heard him walk toward the door. The door opened with a soft creak, but before it closed he spoke into the silent room.
"See to it my boots are cleaned by lunch."
She opened her eyes, and nodded, though he was no longer looking at her. Once he was gone she retrieved his mud-caked boots and took them to the small room attached to the kitchen of their home. There she scraped the mud off, but before she could really start scrubbing at them, her maid, Tsume appeared.
"Lady Kagome? What are you doing?"
She looked up, silent tears had cut a track down her face, but she still smiled. "I am cleaning Otousan's boots. He wanted me to."
Tsume threw herself to the ground, her firm fingers gripping the child's chin as she examined the bruise on her cheek. "Where did you get that?"
Her eyes widened in horror and she looked away. "I fell."
"You're lying. Let me finish this."
"No!" They both jumped. She hadn't meant to yell. "I was told to do it, but if you could explain the best way to me, I would be grateful."
Tsume glanced toward the manor house then sat beside her charge. Something had told her the moment she clapped eyes on the new Lord that the rest of their lives were going to be far from easy.
