Chap.2

My mind lay in the dark, the depths of my soul which is dead to the outside world. I cry into the darkness and it echoes, the hollow lair of death is dark, far too dark for me. And then I hear it.

It plays over and over again. The same song, same pitch, same volume for hours on end. Until finally my hand slammed onto the alarm with a great thud. "Damn alarms." I whispered as I realized I wasn't the only one in my bed. Kikyou had her arm around my waist and she was naked.

I pushed my self away from her and got ready for work. "I really need to stop doing this. She's not even my girlfriend." I whispered to myself again.

She moaned lightly and then stretched. "Leaving so soon?"

"Work." I answered simply.

"Can you show me your badge before you leave officer?" she asked pulling me to her before I zipped up my pants completely.

"No Kikyou. I could get in a lot of trouble just for being with you right now." I said as she tried to pull my pants off. I moved away before she had succeeded.

"I won't tell." Pouting and whining did not click with me at the moment.

"Just… be quiet Kikyou. You'll see me again tonight." I promised before kissing her cheek and leaving. This was going to be a long day. As I slipped into my patrol car the girl I had asked about the woods walked by. She caught my eyes then darted into an alley which was darker than I thought it would have been, and yet I followed her scent.

It disappeared halfway down the alley; I looked around and then looked up seeing moment. She stood on top of the building with her trench coat swaying in the breeze. Her eyes reflected light as she looked at me then started to turn away. "Hey wait."

She turned back to me. "I didn't catch your name last time."

She jumped, and to my surprise landed on her feet still able to walk. "That's because you didn't ask." She said softly.

"How'd you do that?"

"You shouldn't ask that either."

"Your name then, what is your name?"

"A name for a name is fair, Kagome. My debt is repaid." she said with devilish catlike brown eyes.

"Well Kagome I guess I'll be seeing you around?"

"I doubt it." She turned away and with a running start jumped to the roof of the building, disappearing from my sight. I watched the empty space for a minute and wonder filled me. I knew there were people like myself but what was she, for she was defiantly not hanyou or youkai. I didn't feel that type of presence around her; she was something darker, something darker than Death himself. My soul has revived thinking of this. There is some thing darker than Death, and I want to meet it.

~*~*~*~

The officer was getting to close when he asked for my name. If he looked me up he would find that I died before he was born, probably before his grandmother was born. It was only fair that I gave him my name because he had given his. I left him to feed.

This time I went to New York to hunt. This place was my favorite hunting grounds. If I could live anywhere but Salem it would be here, in the heart of the busy city. Kagura brought me here far too long ago to hunt, after I had killed Naraku.

I landed in an alley behind a club for our kind. The inside stenches of blood so bad that even I am reluctant to go in. I do any way. The lights are dimmed that a human could not see where they were going, but we could perfectly. I ventured to the bar where a tall `vampire' stood serving drinks. "Any thing good?"

"Not unless you want human drinks." He said coldly.

"Give me a Sky Blue and I'm not stupid boy. If you ever talk to me like I am I'll kill you." I said slamming a five dollar bill onto the bar to pay. He jumped at the sound and I smirked. Taking the money he slid a bottle to me.

I walked away slowly sensing someone close. I had met this person before but briefly, I scanned the room not recognizing anybody. I subconsciously bit the side of my check until it bleed. I took another sip of my drink as it healed. I had my back up to a wall and still surveyed the room. Two arms wrapped around my stomach. Instantly I knew the leech from his voice. "Hello milady."

"Let go of me, Miroku."

"You have a very good memory." He said moving to face me.

"No you have a very obnoxious aura." I said rolling my eyes. He smiled still holding my hips with his hands. I leaned into him slightly, I was playing with him. I made my face innocent looking up to him. Digging my nails into his neck I pressed my lower body against him and noticed he was hard. He purred from his throat and lowered his lips to my neck. His smell was making me giddy. I felt his fangs graze my skin as if asking if he could bite.

I was waiting for it but it never came. "Do you really want this Lady Kagome?"

"Do you?" I laid my forehead on his shoulder to slow my breathing.

"Not if you don't."

"I don't care." I looked up to him again.

He smiled slightly, licking his lips. I pulled him to me and kissed him slowly my tongue begging to intrude his mouth. He granted it entrance and sucked on it lightly. When I pulled away I wasn't breathing. He had taken my breath away - literally. I laughed.

"I love it when you laugh, it's like the sound of bells, crisp but sticks with the listener." He had a way with words but that wasn't what I wanted to hear at the moment.

I rolled my eyes again. "I need to go. There's a bash tomorrow. Will you be there?"

"Yeah, I was planning on it." He answered as I moved away and chunked my still half way full bottle into the trash.

"See you there then." I said walking out the door. It swung shut behind me, and no one followed me like last time. Several men had seen me walk in the last time I visited but when they followed me I got angry and let's just say it wasn't very pretty when the human authorities found six bodies in an alley, not pretty at all.

I still visited this place though. It was a second home for me. Down at the end of the street I found a male prostitute who looked like he was maybe twenty. I took him into an alley and caught his eyes. What delicate eyes, what a delicate face, not to mention skin. His heart was pounding and I enjoyed the beat as if it were music. Slipping my hand into his pants, I licked his neck to get a feel where the vein was then I bit into him sending his brain a command that it instantly did, Sleep my love.

I let his body fall slowly to the ground. A shuffle behind me made me turn and see the damned hanyou.

"What are you?" he asked looking from my lips to the boy to me again.

I swallowed. How am I supposed to answer something like that in just one word? Vampire came to mind but then there would be too much to explain later. I ran.

He let out a sigh then ran after me. I left the boy alone he would recover in a few minutes anyway. When we were about ten blocks away I turned around. "How did you find me?"

"Easy, you're not very hard to track. And I move quickly."

"I told you once before the question of what I am is not for you to know. Don't you have other people to stalk officer or do you insist on tormenting me?"

"Why can't I know?" he stepped closer towards me.

"Because you… you wouldn't understand. It's difficult to explain and every time I do explain it, people run. How would you feel if you have this desire every one else doesn't have? What if you wake up one day and you weren't what you were the day before? How would you feel if everyone in your life, everyone you ever cared about left you for dead. And then two hundred years later you just realized you out lived them and they're never coming back." I was in his face, closer to him than I had been with any man other than Kouga.

He stumbled back a step. "I know how it feels."

"No that's just it you don't. If I told you what I am you would want to confine me, trial me, and kill me for the people I've hurt. I won't tell you what I am, until you figure it out. You find the question I'll give you an answer. All's fair in my world, and a question deserves an answer." I backed away then continued down the alley. He watched me go and didn't try and stop me.

Returning home after dawn, I slept late again the next day. Souta came home with a one hundred on his history, he had written four pages but his teacher didn't believe half the stuff I had told him so she degraded him ten points.

"Ah, screw the teacher. She obviously hasn't read his biography lately." I said handing his paper back to him.

"I got kicked out for fighting today too." Souta said lowering his eyes.

"Why?" I asked evenly.

"A kid was talking about you, he called you a hooker bitch that stays out with her lovers all night then comes home and sleeps all day."

"That's no reason to fight Souta, and you know it."

"That's not all he said Kagome. He talked about grandfather." I narrowed my eyes.

"No one talks about grandfather and gets away with it. Where does this kid live?"

"Two blocks away. What are you going to do?"

"You're going to help. Show me."

An: Yeah!! That's what I thought. Any way, R&R thanks!! Mischief is my middle name!!
