She Loves Me Like I Am

*In the Feudal Era*

It was night, and everyone was asleep. Everyone that is except Inuyasha. Sango was asleep as far as humanly possible from the monk with the wandering hands Miroku, and Shippo was curled up with Kagome in her sleeping bag. But Inuyasha was wide awake sitting on the limb of a tree thinking and watching Kagome.

Lying here with you

I watch you while you sleep

The dawn is closing in

With every breath you breathe

He was thinking of the two loves in his life, Kikyou and Kagome. You couldn't think of one without bringing up the other. In truth, the only real things they had in common were their looks, and their shared soul. Inuyasha had learned the hard way that other then that, the two had nothing in common. The differences outnumbered the similarities… a lot. For one, Kagome was from the future, five hundred years into the future in fact. She was also kind, smart, pretty, incredibly sexy at times… Inuyasha shook his head clearing it of those kinds of thoughts. He looked at the sleeping girl again and a small smile graced his features. Kagome was the first person he felt comfortable sharing his secret with. The secret of the New Moon. The time when he turned human, turned weak. And the funny thing is, with Kagome, that little slip of a girl, he felt safe, and ten times stronger. She was also the first person to see him as a friend, and not some blood thirsty monster.

I can feel the change,

All the things you see in me

She saw him as a special person. Maybe that was the key, she saw him as a person. Not an abomination. A blight upon the earth, a half-breed with tainted blood. She had complete trust in him, something Kikyou definitely never had. All Kikyou saw was what he could become, and a way out of her confined life. A way to break out her cage. Unshed tears stung at his eyes, he blinked them back fiercely. Kagome also believed he would always protect her no matter what, that he would always be there for her. And he had decided a long time ago that he would try his best and do anything in his power never to betray that trust.

But, he had betrayed that trust, many times. With Kikyou of course. He sighed, why did life have to be so damn complicated? He used to not be sure of who he truly loved, but the answer had slowly dawned on him, and it was so obvious that he wondered why it hadn't struck him sooner. Either way, he never had been and might never be sure exactly how to approach either woman. But, it didn't really matter did it? The woman he loved was always around so there would be plenty of opportunities right? He smiled again at her sleeping form, Kagome.

When it comes to love

Inuyasha also didn't want to admit it, but he had also been a bit frightened of both women when he'd first met them. Truly met them anyway. I mean, he hadn't been really all that scared of Kagome when he'd first seen her running helplessly towards him from that giant centipede youkai. But once he had seen that spark, that burning determined flame that had captured other's attention besides his, well, maybe that was when he truly started falling for her. He growled softly, stupid Koga!! That infuriating girl had also attracted more worrisome attention, like that of his brother Sesshoumaru, and even worse, Naraku's. But neither of the latter's was a romantic interest, so that was something he guessed.

Inuyasha jumped down off of the branch and silently stalked up to Kagome's sleeping form. He knelt beside her and brushed her bangs from her closed eyes.

"Kagome," he whispered, "I don't know how you did it, but somehow I went from not needing anybody to not being able to live without you. All I need you to do now is promise me one thing, that you'll keep on loving me even when I am a big jerk." He smiled at her and kissed her forehead, "No worries now, and sweet dreams." With that small speech the hanyou jumped into the tree and fell asleep with a smile on his face, his mind clear.
