A Deeper Destiny: Chapter Five
“Sesshoumaru.” He turned back to the woman. Her blue eyes were uneasy. “Where are we?”
“At the edge of the Western lands. We’ll leave for the palace tomorrow morning.” He noticed the restlessness in her aura. “Kagome, what’s wrong?”
“My miko is overreacting. I haven’t felt so much Youki in years,” she whispered. He nodded silently. What was it like? To never sense a Youkai’s aura for five years, then suddenly arriving in a land that was swamped with Youki? He moved to stand again, but her hand on his wrist stopped him. “Please, could you stay with me? I don’t want you sleeping against a wall anyway.” He heard the plea in her voice and nodded. She scooted closer to the wall to make room for him. Slipping off his armor, he placed his swords next to the futon and lay next to the trembling miko. Feeling her aura’s discomfort, he let his Youki reach out to comfort it. Her miko accepted the familiar demon aura and calmed down as the two auras intertwined. Hearing her breathing slow down into a soft, slow rhythm, he followed her into the land of dreams as well.
“Is something the matter, Kagome?”
“Oh no, Maru-chan,” she spit out sarcastically, “I just absolutely love waking up to a smug Taiyoukai.” He frowned at the nickname. He utterly hated the name, and Kagome used almost every chance she got to use the loathed title. He’d told her of the clingy Neko-Youkai that was absolutely in love with him. And how the feelings were completely one-sided. She smirked back at his irate face. “Not so unwavering now, huh Sesshoumaru?” His lips thinned. “Is there a river near by? I’d like to bathe.” He glanced up at her as she stood and stretched.
“You don’t find the transition from to warm baths to icy rivers difficult?” She put a hand on her hip.
“Sesshoumaru, just cause I lived in a luxurious palace for five years doesn’t mean I’m not still humble. I was never some spoiled onna and I never will be.” He nodded his head.
“Head North, the river’s close.” She nodded, gathering a brocade bag with a few of her belongings into her arms. She left after giving him a small wave.
When she returned later, dressed in a fresh golden dress and robe, she found him sitting at the low table on a plump cushion, a small pile of fruit on the table. His eyes widened a fraction, but he quickly turned away. Chinese clothing really did suit her. The one piece dress she wore under her robe was golden, but had thousands of tiny golden chrysanthemums embroidered unto the gold silk. The robe she wore over it was of gold as well, but had phoenixes rather than chrysanthemums stitched into the gold silk. Creamy white silk under-sleeves hung out from the robe and brushed the ground slightly, but never dirtied. They ate in a comfortable silence, Kagome fixing her hair into a secure ornate bun afterwards. As she pushed the last pin in, he stood and shouldered her brocade bag. They exited the hut quietly and stood outside of it. Sesshoumaru erected another barrier and pulled Kagome to him. Securing an arm around her waist, the wisps of his Youkai Cloud began to form beneath their feet. They took to the skies, the morning sun behind them.
“Rin you fool! Are you not anxious for Lord Sesshoumaru’s return?!” The teen turned to him, huffing.
“Of course Jaken! But I’m not about to make a fool of myself waiting nervously! At I least I can keep my cool.” She turned from him and smoothed her kimono out, admiring the sunset orange silk. Her head snapped up when she noticed the soldiers stiffen. Raising a hand to block the sun, she saw two figures approaching the palace from the sky, one of white and silver, the other in gold. “Who is that woman who accompanies Sesshoumaru-sama?!” She exclaimed, noticing black hair and pale skin. The general, who stood to her left behind her, spoke up.
“We will have to wait until they have touched ground, Rin. But her scent does seem familiar somehow.”
“Thank you, General.” Rin nodded. As the two on the Youkai cloud touched ground, Rin took off running. She latched herself onto the Taiyoukai’s waist. She felt the affectionate, gentle pat on her head and looked up, grinning. He quirked a corner of his mouth a little as he looked down at her, his affection and happiness unconcealed in his golden eyes. She let go of him and stepped away, attention immediately drawn to a long white sleeve hanging out of a striking golden robe with gold embroidered phoenixes. She followed the sleeves up an arm to a face. A beautiful woman smiled back at her. Rin stared, awed by the stunning woman. Her pale ceramic skin was flawless, smooth, her lips full, the bottom slightly more plump; reddened and adorned with gold powder. Her dazzling sapphire eyes sparkled, framed by thick, inky eyelashes. Jet black hair was pulled up into an ornate bun with elaborate loops, held in place with intricate gold pins. Rin’s gaze lingered on the woman’s eyes and then it came to her. The pretty lady who wore that strange kimono and had traveled with Sesshoumaru-sama’s Hanyou half-brother!
“Kagome-chan?” Rin smiled shyly, suddenly humbled by this renowned woman. A blush stained her cheeks as she remembered her young, naïve wish for Kagome-chan to become her mother. ‘I always wished Kagome-chan would come to live us in the palace and be my okaasan. Can’t blame a kid for dreaming.’
“Rin.” The older woman smiled brightly before enveloping her in a tight hug. She pulled away gently, taking in the younger girl’s appearance. “Oh, Rin! You’ve grown so much!! And I missed it!” She pouted momentarily, “And how I’ve missed you! No one has quite filled this Rin-sized hole in my heart.” She clutched her chest dramatically. The girl giggled.
“I’ve missed you too, Kagome-chan. Sesshoumaru-sama spent years looking for you after you disappeared!” The woman raised her brow and glanced over at the Taiyoukai.
“Oh really now?”
“Mmhm! He did! Where did Sesshoumaru-sama find you? Why does your kimono have such long inner sleeves and an open neckline?” The blue-eyed miko laughed as an onslaught of questions soon followed. Sesshoumaru stepped over to them, placing a hand on both their shoulders.
“Rin.” The girl paused to turn to her father figure. “Kagome will answer your questions inside. I do believe we have a welcome back feast to attend.” Kagome smiled reassuringly at Rin and took the girl’s hand. The trio walked into the great palace, Kagome awed as they passed intricate tapestries, beautiful relics, and other beautiful furniture. The gleaming white stone that made up the walls and smooth black stone of the floor made her smile; they spoke volumes of Sesshoumaru’s taste; simple yet refined. Following Sesshoumaru silently with Rin by her side, she frowned silently when they seemed to veer off from the main area to what seemed to be personal quarters. She was lead down a lavish hall where there were only three sets of huge double doors. Rin smiled at her when they reached the first door.
“I’ll see you in the dining hall Kagome-chan!” The woman nodded at the brown-eyed girl before following Sesshoumaru again. They stopped at the next door.
“This will be your room for the duration of your stay. A servant will fetch you and escort you to the dining hall when you have finished freshening up.” She nodded and entered the room as he continued down the hall. Turning after she had shut the doors, she gasped. It was beautiful. Extremely tall walls painted to resemble the night sky, stars and misty clouds included. And Oh, the futon, in the middle of the room. It was HUGE. It could probably fit ten to fifteen bodies easily. And it was so thick! It practically rose two feet off the ground. Now China may have had four poster beds with canopies, but even those could not have been more lavish than this. So thick and soft, yet firm. It was covered with silk sheets of a deep midnight blue, several white silk sheets beneath that as well. And the pillows! Several of them sat at the head of the futon, arranged into a neat pile, a wide variety in different shapes and sizes, all either covered in blue or white silk. Kagome stroked the midnight blue silk lovingly before moving on to a screen door that had caught her attention. Pushing the screen aside, she gasped yet again as she stumbled upon a walk-in-closet with thousands of shelves and racks on three of its walls. The fourth wall held a vanity table with a big round mirror. Two floor length mirrors framed the table. She noticed several familiar looking brushes and combs, realizing they were her own. Upon closer inspection, she found that all the belongings she had packed were neatly put away and waiting for her use. Her robes hung patiently as her dresses sat on the shelves, meticulously folded. Her slippers and sandals were neatly stashed in little shelves, her jewelry and hairpins placed in a jewelry box on the vanity.
Smiling, she sat at the vanity and brushed her hair before once again putting it up with her pins.

Land ing outside of a medium sized wooden hut surrounded by a Youkai barrier, he adjusted the sleeping woman in his arms. Striding through the barrier, he entered the quaint hut and placed the girl on the futon. As he stood to go sit against the wall, a voice called out his name.Disclaimer: Rumiko Takahashi is the sole owner of Inuyasha.

Sesshoumaru stirred as a ray of morning light tickled his eyelids. Opening his eyes slowly, he felt warmth by his side. Looking down, he saw a head of black hair on his chest. Smelling sakura blossoms and sunshine, he realized it was Kagome. His hazy mind fought to remember why they were in bed together. The sapphire miko lay partially on him, her head and hand on his chest, a leg thrown over one of his, resting between his own two legs. The rest of her lay snuggled up to his side, his arm holding her tight against him. He smiled when she tried to bury herself deeper against him. His eyes widened when he realized they’d made it to Japan and would leave for his palace soon. ‘I don’t want to go back yet. I like things the way they are now, I have her all to myself.’ He scolded himself when he realized his thoughts. ‘But I have not seen her for seven years, it is only right. On the other hand, Rin has not seen her for seven years as well.’ He sighed and stirred Kagome softly. He chuckled when she murmured ‘hour of the dragon my ass, it’s still an ungodly hour’ in Chinese. The vibrations resounding from his chest eventually awakened the miko and he smirked as she looked up at him with drowsy sapphire eyes. She narrowed her eyes at him and sat up indifferently. He pulled himself up to sit beside her.“Is something the matter, Kagome?”

Jaken hopped anxiously from one foot to the other. He glared at a thirteen year old Rin who gave him an annoyed glance. The girl coolly turned away from the toad demon’s angry gaze and put on an air of boredom. Jaken gawked at her display.“Rin you fool! Are you not anxious for Lord Sesshoumaru’s return?!” The teen turned to him, huffing.
