CHAPTER 6

This time when Kagome slowly joined the wake the first things that penetrated her brain was that her bed had somehow gotten softer. Of course that wasn't true because she most definitely had gone to the nest and it might look quite soft after a night of lying on it the fur pelts lost there poof and you could feel the ground through the `bed'.

Then after slowly opening one sea bleu eye she was taken aback by the fact that she could only see white, panic shot through her and Kagome sat up straight and her fear flew away when she saw that the white thing really was a blanked.

Joy shot through Kagome and she pulled the soft white blanket close to her hugging it to her chest, actual real blankets, actual real blankets. Kagome chanted inside her head. Then she discover that she was sitting on a mattress and she let out a whoop of joy.

Now standing she danced around hopping from one foot to the other looking down at the small treasures that now made up her bed. She had an actual bed, a real no pelt bed. Her happiness burst and she let out a soft giggle of pleasure.

She was so taken up in her happiness that at first she didn't hear the soft caught to catch her attention. But when it became louder Kagome stopped her hopping and turned around expecting to see Tenshi.

"Tenshi look at this I got a actual real soft warm bed, did you do thi…"Kagome stopped dead in her sentence when she faced the person standing in the entrance. Instead of the older she wolf Kouga stood there watching her with those cobalt bleu eyes of his, an strange emotion radiated from those clear orbs.

A shiver run down Kagome's spine and she dove down between the blankets grabbing hold of them while she tried to hide the fact that she was naked. Of course he had already seen her but she would still hide for modesties sake.

Kouga walked into the cave and for the first time Kagome noticed the plate he was holding, Kagome sucked in her breath. On that plate was what had to be all of her favorite breakfast foods. Hot tea with crispy little pancakes filled with what looked to syrup and next to that stood a small crystal bowl filled with fresh strawberries topped with whipped cream. (God now I'm making myself drool)

Without really noticing it Kagome lowered the blankets and eyed the plate Kouga was holding with so much love the prince had to keep himself on the subject of bringing her the food forcefully. It was a good thing he remembered to ask what her favorite foods are if only she would look that way at him.

Kouga sighed maybe it was a good thing she didn't look that way at him, they would never leave the bed he had brought in last night while she was sleeping. With a tiny smile he noted to himself that the bed had been appreciated by his new mate as well.

Stepping onto the now slightly higher bed Kouga sat down next to Kagome who was still all eyes for the plate of food. If she didn't stop looking like that he would kiss her. Hell he would love to kiss her for no reason but Kagome being Kagome, but it wasn't the time yet. And it wasn't the time yet to have a serious conversation on what happened her first night here.

Placing the plate on her lap Kouga scooted a few inched back to give her some space, she didn't seemed to notice though, she was much to busy wolfing down the food. Scratching his head Kouga eyed her warily was this good behavior.

"Maybe you should slow down, eating that fast can't be healthy." Kouga said with concern in his voice and eyes. Instead of a mumbled replay he had been expecting Kagome stopped eating al together and looked up, looking like she saw him for the first time in her live.

Kagome looked up she had completely forgotten that he was here with her and strangely enough sitting so close to him didn't make her edgy or angry. Cocking her head Kagome thought about this while slowly bringing one of the strawberries with whipped cream to her mouth. `god these are delicious we never had such as those at home' Kagome though absent mindly.

Why didn't she feel uncomfortable, after what he did to her she should feel like killing him very, very slowly. But instead she just wondered if it was his natural smell or some kind of home made shampoo that made him smell so good. Kagome forgot about the strawberries and for the first time in her stay she started to look at Kouga like she would have done at any boy introduced to her by Sango or her mother. Eri and co didn't count she usually tried to sneak out from there matchmaking skills.

He was well build not to slim but not overdone- must be the way he had grown up, this rough country and all- he had nice long extremely lovely black hair- and Kagome remembered how the sun had conjured dark bleu flames in those strands- his eyes were what most unsettling about him a bright cobalt bleu with in there depths Wisps of olive green. His mouth was firm and she knew that if he smiled two white fangs would be visible.

In other words if you took away the abnormalities this was one fine specimen of male kind and she would have loved to go on a date with him, if they had met under normal circumstances. Somewhere in the back of her mind Kagome thought that was done was done, he looked like a good guy maybe she should give him a second change, but the thought wasn't strong enough to reach the surface.

All the while Kouga watched his mate intently while she seemed to struggle with something and on that moment he knew that all hope was not lost there was still a chance for them, he just had to find the right door to make her except him completely.

A deep plunch of happiness run through his gut and made him smile his eyes twinkled and he stood up and walked to the other side of the cave. "I'm glad you liked the bed I brought it in last night while you where sleeping. But that's not the only thing I have for you."

Kouga stopped near the wall that looked the same as the rest of the cave but was soon revealed to be something else altogether. From the back Kagome couldn't see much but she heart a couple of knocks and then scratching, then the next moment Kouga stepped away and a hidden closet was revealed.

Now Kagome just put her food down and watched too curious to see what he would be coming with next. First the bed and breakfast, what could he possible have that would surpass this. `Maybe it's a super fast way to get home to my family that would surpass anything'. Kagome thought sarcastically.

Kouga stepped away while the small square door popped open to reveal a hidden closet, in here he kept all his most prized possessions. Never in his whole live had he taking anything out from it, only placed things in it. Maybe it wasn't time to talk deeply yet and it really wasn't time to forget what he had done yet but this little thing would be one step getting closer to getting the woman he had dreamed about since being old enough to dream.

With one hand he shoved some of his latest findings to the back to unearth the desired object. Very carefully Kouga picked it up with both hands and walked back to Kagome who was looking mildly interested and angry. Kouga ignored that though and settled back down next to her.

"Before I can give you this I need to tell you the story behind it otherwise it will just be an drawing." Kouga looked sideways to see Kagome raise an eyebrow making clear that she wanted this to be over with. Apparently food worked only so long to make her forget his closeness, but this time he refused to move, her smell and looks had him pinned.

"Well then. Uhm Ok. When I was younger the others would always tease me because of my dream girl. They would yell at me and pull pranks because I would be daydreaming. I really was an easy target." Kouga said the last with a smile making clear that he no longer held a grudge against those who had done that to him in the past.

"Anyway I thought that if I could only show them my dream girl they would understand, they would see for themselves how great she looked and … well I thought about this a long time and I finally decided that to draw my girl would be the solution to my problems, there was only one problem I can't draw, still can't".

Kagome tried to peak while listening to his explanation with half a ear but Kouga pulled the thick paper away just in time and Kagome resumed her previous position when she noticed how close in she was to Kouga. If he had noticed though he didn't show it, he didn't falter in his explanation either.

" So here I was with this perfect plan that couldn't be accomplished, I spend months and months trying to improve my drawing skills but with no luck I remained a awfully bad artist. Then just after I gave up one of my friends came running up to me one day telling me he had found a way for me to get my whish and he told me about this old owl youkai that lived up the mountain all by itself. He told me that the old men was a dream-mage and capable of going inside other peoples dream and banishing evil or other bothersome things and maybe just maybe he could go inside my dream look at this girl and draw her for me. Of course the chance was small that he would help me and even smaller that he could do what I wanted but it was a chance." Kouga stopped to take a breath and his cobalt bleu eyes where no longer looking at the dark brown cave wall but at the past. Unwillingly Kagome started to pay attention to the story and to her amazement she wonder what was going to happen next and even more she wanted to now about this dream girl. She was intrigued.

"So one night I snuck out carrying with me no more food than for one day and just enough water for two days, I thought it would be an easy journey…

((((( Kouga snuck out through he cave he and Hakkaku had found some two years back, it had proven useful on many occasions and what was better his mother didn't know about it so it was unguarded at the other end.

Pulling himself free Kouga sniffed the cool damp night air and smiled, this was better than expected not one patrol group within hearing distance it looked like the faith above him where helping him out.

With speed to rival some of the teens in his pack Kouga swiftly put distance between him and his home and after a while not even his advanced hearing and nose were able to sense his pack mates meaning he was at a save distance.

Slowing down he pulled Hakkaku's description from his pouch and unfolded it to reveal the rout description. Swiftly taking it in and memorizing it for safety Kouga went into a run again if he would keep up a steady pas he would be likely be back late next night or early the next morning.

That night Kouga run farther than he had ever been before and soon he was even out of his own grounds, normally he would have disobeyed his mother's law that younglings weren't allowed to leave pack ground but this drawing was too important too long had he wanted to not only be able to see his dream girl in his mind only. He wanted something he could hold and since the actual girl wasn't here he would have to do with a drawing, for now that was all he desired.

When he reached the base of the hill the old owl was supposed to live Kouga didn't hesitate but climbed using his hands and sometimes even his teeth to steady his wait and to find footholds. It was a long energy draining climb and when he finally made it to an entrance of some cave not even sure it was the right one cuts and bruises cover him from head from head to foot.

Lying down Kouga let his heart rhythm slow down and let his youkai blood heal the worst of his cuts. When he noticed that only the three worst wounds had healed he gave up knowing full well that if he pushed his body any further he would likely render himself unconscious and he couldn't do that he had to find the owl, he could rest when the old owl went through his dreams.

Standing up Kouga walked to the entrance slowly his body shaking badly from the endurance but the pain and weariness was all worth it when from the shadows an old owl youkai approached him. Coming to see who was calling for him.

"So a young boy seeks counsel, do you have demons that need to be chased from your dreams boy? You have come to the right place then. Come along then follow old Uiji. The battered old youkai slowly made his way back into the darks of the cave Kouga following just as slowly unable to even moister up enough energy to tell him he wasn't here for banishing bad boogey dream man.

Just when even Kouga's eyes couldn't see his surrounding anymore the cave started to get lighter again but not from torches or any other kind of light source, instead the light seemed to be coming from the walls themselves.

Normally Kouga would have investigated this but with his current lack of stamina he just shrugged it of and kept following the youkai in front of him. Several minutes later they entered a small dome filled with just a couple of chairs one table a store closet and what appeared to be a half disappeared wall painting, could it be his own work?

The owl settled down in one of the chairs leaving the other to Kouga. "Now young boy of the Ookami clan what is your business here I already searched your dreams but there is nothing remotely freighting in them so your not here for an exorcism." Uiji folded his hands with had to be the longest talons Kouga had ever seen and placed them under his chin his brown eyes fixing Kouga's he waited.

Kouga had to take a few more steady breath before he even felt like being able to talk but he had come this far, it would not do to fail. "That is right, I'm here for a request." Kouga said and the owl raised one hand stopping him for any further explanation.

"Ah I see, you want something else to be realized from your dreams, tell me. In all my years I don't think I have ever had such a request as you are going to ask of me now, I am thrilled to see what it is."

Kouga felt like frowning the tone on which he had just stated thrilled it seemed like he thought of it as a walk in the park and stated at a tune dry biscuit's would be proud of, but he better not let such things bother him. "I'm wondering if you could pained a exact picture of the girl in my dreams." Kouga asked his voice shaking from being this close to getting what he wanted very bad.

The owl at first didn't answer in fact he didn't even seem to be looking at Kouga anymore. His eyes were looking at something far, far away and every now and then he would shake his head mumbled something before staring of in the distance again. Then quite suddenly he pinned his eyes on Kouga again. "I can do as you ask but there will be a price."

Kouga nodded he had excepted this. "I have several things that I could trait for prize, what do I have to pay you." Kouga asked his eyes eager, he would most likely do anything for this drawing. He never noticed the red sheen that hovered over the owl's eyes for just mere seconds.

"you just gave it to me. Now let us proceed." The owl smiled and walked over to Kouga. "don't worry I will bring you into a light trance that will make it easier for me to see one particular image for long periods of time, when I'm done painting I will wake you up and your free to go."

Before Kouga could protest that he had never heard what his prize was the owl had put him in a trance.)))))

… "I didn't wake up for several day's and when I did I whished I had stayed unconscious for a long time, or at least until the worst of my wounds where healed. You see the owl had done exactly what I wanted but the prize I had to pay was satisfying his sadistic need for helpless victims." By know Kouga's eyes were looking at the cave wall again and from there they went to Kagome and he very slowly placed the paper next to him and began unwrapping the fur on his lower legs and arm.

"While I was out of it he used some of his worst techniques on me, slowly skinning me layer for layer. Of course I don't know how bad I was when mother found me, but it was bad enough to leave scars." Kouga finished unwrapping the furs Kagome had always assumed were just there for decoration, but what she saw was more then she had ever wanted to see.

The skin under those furs was so twisted up a burned third degree face looked pleasant next to it. But she didn't wince or look away. When Kouga noticed a small smile lit his face and he cover his scars up again.

"As you can guise it takes a lot for a youkai to be permanently scared and even more for the scars to be this bad still. But in the end I still say it was worth it for I had what I most desired, a whish had come true. And say your self how often do wishes come true." Kagome knew he didn't expect her to answer his question instead she took the paper he gave her and watched him walk away.

Then just before he left the cave he stopped and Kagome didn't ask why, she just waited knowing there was one more thing he wanted to say. One of Kouga's hands went up to the wall until he was touching it and he turned around. His smile was so radiant he seemed to glow, it took Kagome's breath away. On that moment he only missed the wings, but if she had ever had to guess what an angel would look like she would have described something remark fully like Kouga.

"One more thing Kagome."

"…"

"I would have paid much more." With a small nod of his head he then left her to her self.

It was a long time before she even looked down at the paper or even dared open it. How could such a piece of paper be worth so much suffering. Only something very precious to you would make a person go through all that and not regret it after.

Kagome didn't know how long a time had passed since Kouga left but when she finally opened the thick paper she did it ever so carefully millimeter by millimeter. And when she had unfolded the precious picture within she almost dropped it, but some part of her mind was still working and held into it.

On the piece of paper that in its full seize was no bigger than A3 paper was a perfect painting of her self. She would have been no older than 6 and she even remembered from when the picture was.

It had been a grand day and her mother had taken her and Souta to a huge animal park, Kagome had been playing with what she thought were little dogs and only after her mother and grandpa had pulled her away and scolded her for leaving them in the first place, she was also told that wolf were no play thing.

The picture she was looking at was of her sitting on the soft grass ground surrounded by goofing wolf cubs. A smile lit her face and her eyes were glittering with joy at being able to play and cuddle with the small soft furry animals. She remembered that day well.
