Sango shifted in her seat uncomfortable...her only saving grace from the wretched pervert had run off. But when Sango looked across from her Miroku didn't even look like he was on this planet. He just sat there in deep thought. Sango gave a sigh. She knew she might regret this...

"Hey...are you alright?" She asked.

"Huh? oh yeah I'm fine." Miroku didn't even look up at her.

“Well uh...if you want to talk I guess I’m stuck here.” He didn’t even respond.

The awkward silence went back into affect. She shrunk down, how she just wanted for Kagome to return. She twiddled with her thumbs and began to wish she hadn't decided to show up. It was once she was in deep thought that she felt something grab onto her. As she slowly turned her head she saw Miroku. The sneaky little bastard had shifted over to where she was.

“I’m ready to talk.” Miroku leaned in on her.

"Kirara, sick him girl!" Sango yelled scooting away from Miroku.

At Sango’s command Kirara grew into her full demon form and lunged after Miroku. Miroku was trapped he tried to climb further up the couch to get away, but the demon opened her mouth and dragged Miroku down. He was caught in her teeth and was being used as a rag doll the cat flung him all about in the air.

Sango’s displeasure had taken a turn and she began busting out laughing at the pervert’s demise. Miroku tried to claw at the ground, but it was no use he was stuck. He even was trying to bribe Sango to get her cat demon off of him.

Meanwhile All the ruckus coming from downstairs had awaken the young kitsune. He rubbed his eyes and mad his way downstairs.

“What’s going on Miroku? Why are you screaming?” As Shippo fluttered his eyes open and saw Kirara munching on Miroku’s leg and Sango rolling over with laughter.

“Shippo for the love of god help me!” Miroku pleaded.

“Why?” Shippo said defiantly and grabbing a front row seat of the show.

“Because I’m going to die!” Miroku began to whimper.

“What am I suppose to do that girl scares me.” Shippo said seriously.

“Sango, please I call truths!”

“Oh...alright Kirara let go.” Sango sighed. Kirara dropped Miroku and pranced over by her owners side.

“Touch me again and I’ll let her eat you.” Sango said sitting back down and petting Kirara.

“sigh...I’m in love.” Miroku said dazed.

Shippo got up and went to go find out where I had gone. As Shippo walked past the door to the study he heard whispers. He crept closer his interest was peaked.

“So...Kagome’s estranged dad is working for Naraku...any information on her dead parents? Alright well call me if you have any further information.” Sesshomaru hung up the phone and Shippo could hear footsteps walking his way when the door opened it caught Shippo by surprise, sending him to fall on his ass.

“What are you doing young one?” Sesshomaru said with his calm voice.

“I was looking for Kagome.” Shippo said trying to not let on about the conversation.

“She went after Inuyasha out back.”

“Ok thanks!” Shippo quickly ran off in the direction Sesshomaru told him.

Shippo found me cuddled up with Inuyasha by a grave marker. He raced out and hugged me drawing my attention away from Inuyasha. Inuyasha let out a grunt and got to his feet and walked back inside.

“Why are you out of bed Shippo it is almost four in the morning!” I said stern.

“Miroku was being attacked by Sango’s pet and it woke me up. Kagome...is it true that your dad works for Naraku?” The kit asked looking up with sadness stretched through his eyes.

“What makes you say that?” I asked trying to make sense of what Shippo had just asked.

“I overheard Inuyasha’s brother talking about it over the phone.” How does this make any sense Dan wouldn’t...would he...what the hell is going on.

“Shippo go back to bed.” I whispered I told them to not leave me in the dark about anything concerned with my parents.

“But I’m not sleepy.” Shippo replied wiping away eye crust.

“Shippo please just go to bed now. I will be up in a bit.” I bit my lip, thousands of questions and connections were racing in my mind. I walked into the house and went straight to Sesshomaru.

“When were you planning on telling me?” I said putting my fists on his desk.
“What are you talking about?” Sesshomaru asked caught off guard.

“Dan! I hear that he is working for Naraku or some bullshit!” I yelled. Sesshomaru just leaned back in his chair.

“Well is it true god damn it!” I was furious.

“Kagome at this point many sources are indeed telling me that Dan is Naraku’s right hand man.” Sesshomaru gave me his world stopping stare.

“No, how can it be true! I mean Dan has always been, but he wouldn’t....he wouldn’t!” I fell to my knees and couldn‘t believe it.

“Kagome...” Sesshomaru whispered. For the first time I saw Sesshomaru actually show concern. He was about to bend down when Inuyasha pushed open the doors.

“What the hell did you do Sesshomaru!” Inuyasha yelled.

“Great now what.” Sesshomaru moaned he couldn’t keep dealing with angry people throwing open his study’s doors.

“So Kagome’s step dad is working for Naraku now and Kagome is in tears!” Inuyasha was pissed.

“Yes, but one I didn’t do anything and two who told you about Kagome‘s dad?” Sesshomaru said while he wondered why they kept attacking him when he just got the phone call.

“The little fox demon!”

The rest of the gang came in after hearing all the commotion. Shippo realized that maybe he shouldn’t have said anything because Sesshomaru looked at him with a deadly glare. Shippo slowly stepped backwards and hid behind Kirara.


“Ok there is no reason for everyone to be here and for me to be under accusations.”

“He’s right...” I said weakly barely able to stand. Everyone stared at me not expecting me to say anything.

“I’m sorry. I think I am just going to go to bed now. Sango will you come with me?” I asked as tears streaked my face.

“Yeah...” Sango said...still completely in the blue as to what was going on. By this point she was really confused as to what she got herself into.

The trip to my room was silent until the door was shut. Shippo had raced after us as soon as we left the room afraid of what Inuyasha and Sesshomaru would do to him for eaves dropping.

“I’m sorry Sango. This is probably really awkward for you and not exactly the welcoming you were expecting.” I said sitting on my bed.

“Well no, but hey at least I figure that this place never has dull moment.” She said light hearted.

I basically poured my life’s story onto her lap and I was surprised that she hung on every word even Shippo listened intently. When I reached the fiasco downstairs Sango was almost crying herself.

“I’m sorry for your troubles Kagome. I had no idea and to think I thought you were a demon.” She joked and saw Shippo glaring at her with his arms folded.

“I’m sorry Shippo I didn’t mean to offend you, besides Kirara is a demon as well so not all of them are evil. The ironic thing for me is I was a demon slayer and now look where I am.” She smiled shaking his hair.

“It’s ok, I just can’t believe that we are linked together by Naraku.” He said looking at his hands.

“Yeah that is uncanny.” Sango said looking back over at me.

“I have to find out what Dan is doing...” I said clenching my fist.

“Kagome you shouldn’t do this alone. I will help you.” Sango said putting her hand on mine.

“Really you’ll help me?” I asked.

“Yeah! What are friends for.” She giggled. What Sango said made me smile and forget my sorrows again I thought about how I first came here without a soul to lean on and in just a few months I had made five friends who were willing to go through my past and help me move on with the future.


The next morning the tension was gone we were all exhausted due to the fact that we went to bed near dawn and only slept a few hours. Sitting down to eat breakfast was like sitting at a table filled with zombies.

“Kagome, you are to go on your first solo mission today.” Sesshomaru said completely unphased by the lack of sleep.

“Sesshomaru must we talk about work so early in the morning.” I asked barely able to keep my eyes open.

“What I thought you would be ecstatic.”

“Yeah well I’m just a little too tired to really have any comprehension of words or what people are saying to me.” It was too much my eyes needed to bask in the darkness of my eyelids. I wasn’t the only one trying hard not to fall asleep, at one point Shippo's head had slipped and fallen into his eggs and when he woke up his face had bacon stuck to it which he didn’t mind he just peeled it off and ate it.

The rest of breakfast was filled with silence and afterwards we all shuffled out of the kitchen and headed to the living room. Shippo was first to get the remote and excitedly put it on a cartoon show. The rest of us plumped down on the couch and began the process of waking up.

“So now that we are all awake, like I was saying before some of you have missions to go on.”

“Alright what’s the mission.” Inuyasha said yawning.

“Well you don’t have one today Inuyasha...but Kagome and Miroku do.” Sesshomaru replied. Inuyasha smiled and then gave a giant stretch and fell back to sleep putting his head on me and his feet on Sango. Sango and I both looked at each other and pushed Inuyasha off. He didn’t even wake up he just hit the floor and let out a snore.

“Anyway Kagome your mission is to spy on your step father and Miroku you have been employed to take out some big shot in the oil business. Miroku you should also take Sango along to get her more familiar in the field the rest of the information is laid out on my desk go grab it before you leave.”

“Ok why am I being paired up with the pervert honestly! I come from a long line of demon hunters!” Sango protested while Miroku gave her the biggest smile.

“Well Sango, while I’m sure you are better than Miroku I still have to know if we can rely on you and what better way to see it then to pair you with your biggest fan.” It was obvious that Sesshomaru just loved to make people uneasy. And at the mention that Sango was better than him, Miroku smile went into a little pout.

“Sesshomaru, I’ve never been on a mission when I had to spy.” I interjected

“Just use your training of remaining undetected and not worry about the killing part.” Sesshomaru explained.

“Ok...but who is going to look out for Shippo while I’m away?” I asked.

“I will. Don’t worry Kagome everything will go fine. You better start getting your gear together and head out. Oh and you will be staying at the house right behind Dan‘s if you need anything call and someone will come check up on you. This mission will be prolonged over a week.” Sesshomaru said smiling. I nodded my head and went upstairs.

I grabbed everything I could think of using on this mission. I borrowed Miroku’s small camera; a grab hook, x-ray spray(it can allow you to see inside of mail), a tiny video camera, binoculars, a kit that is used to bug telephones and everything else that I thought would help in anyway. I wonder why Miroku has all this stuff just laying around in his room, but I suppose he would have to have it since not all of their work was simply to kill people, but to dig up dirt and exploit them as well depending on what their employer wanted. I shrugged and before I left the room I put a note on his desk telling him that I borrowed it and will return it as soon as I was home.

When I came downstairs I saw that Shippo was already giving Sesshomaru a hard time he was playing with Sesshomaru’s long tail and Sesshomaru had already seemed a little worn down.

“You sure you can handle him.” I asked teasingly.

“Oh yeah...it is no problem.” Sesshomaru smiled. I went over to Shippo and whispered into his ear for him to be good and he responded with a devious smile. It would do some good for Sesshomaru to lighten up a bit. I waved goodbye and headed out on my mission.

It was probably a good thing that I lived with Dan I knew exactly when he and that whore he calls Nancy would be out and their usual routines. I looked around and made sure my presence would go undetected. I slipped in through the garage and put a bug in there, then I went into the house and put a bug in every room and hallway even the bathrooms which I might regret when I review the tapes and I put bugs solely used for hearing conversations into each phone.

My next destination was to look down in the basement there must be more of a reason he didn’t want me touching anything other than his hidden the pictures of Mom. I pulled out the first box that was close to me. All that was in there were old dish clothes and kitchen stuff. Box after box had nothing in them, but crap. I never realized what pack rats Dan and Nancy were.

It wasn’t until I was back at the box with Mom’s stuff in it that I began finding more than just junk. Far down was an invoice for a gun issued back in 1990. I never knew that Dan had a gun it made me shudder a little just thinking what might had happened if I had really sent Dan over the edge. I pulled out another document only this one looked more recent. It had recordings of telephone calls and none of the numbers I recognized. More and more strange documents were hidden away in the box. I found another one that was directly from Naraku, but it was all cryptic and I couldn’t make out what Naraku was talking about.

As I looked further in I heard a car pull up from outside I quickly took pictures of all the documents I found and put them away just like I had found them. I was trapped...I had to figure out a place to hide and almost like instinct I ran for my old room and hid in the closet. I don’t know why I didn’t just climb out the window instead or ran out the back door. It was like I was just used to routine of hiding in my room.

I heard the keys smack the kitchen counter and footsteps drawing near to my room, my heart was pounding I really wish I hadn’t taken this mission alone. I am a goner...my heart and head slowed down a bit as soon as the footsteps passed my door and headed further down the hallway. A sigh let itself out and I quietly opened the closet door and tip toed over to the window. I looked around and saw that no one was in proximity and jumped onto the nearby tree and began to make my way down. I then slipped into the house that I would be staying in. This was a really risky mission it wasn’t like I could play the new neighbor I had to make sure my presence was completely unknown if he did know that I was in the house behind his he would think something was up and it would not end well for me.

I unpacked in the room that looked out over his house and had clear views of the windows. I then sat down on a chair that faced all the TV surveillance of the house that the bugs let me see and put the ear piece that allows me to hear the conversations, but all I could see was a TV and all I heard was Dan’s breathing. This was going to be a long mission, the good thing about the bugs is even if I fell asleep and missed something all the conversations were put straight to a tape. I should also remember to thank Sesshomaru for setting this stuff up for me for when I got here...I would have been trying for hours to hook up all the TVS.

After an hour of listening to Dan yelling at the TV about some sport...the phone rang. Once Dan answered I was in business.

“Hello.” Dan said into the receiver.

“Dan. How is the plan coming along?” The voice said coldly and inhumanly.

“There has been a complication.”

“Complication? What complication.” The voice said aggravated.

“Hiten is dead.”

“Damn it! He was our cover! How the hell could you let this happen!”

“It isn’t over just yet, I have men in place to counter this predicament.” Dan said trying to calm down the other person on the phone.

“You better Dan...I’m putting all my faith in you.”

“Don’t worry Naraku all will be well.” Ha there it is so it is Naraku on the other end of the phone.

“Be careful.”

“What makes you say that?” Dan asked.

“If my sources are right and they usually are it appears that your wretched daughter is working for Inu NoTaisho sons.” Fuck...now I’m really screwed if he catches me.

“Don’t worry brother...I’ll take care of it.” My heart froze...brother...Naraku and Dan...

“Good because I have a little plan of my own in store for those dog demon nuisance and there new human toy. Goodbye brother.”

*And that was chapter four...a little on the short side I know, but it’s all part of my set up for the next chapter. I hope you like it so far and I realized I should thank Inu_Youkai for inspiring me to really stick with this one. Also if there is any corrections you think should be made in order for the story to read better go ahead and write it in a review. Thanks guys ^^ R&R
