A/N: First off I can't believe that I have gotten over 1,000 hits!!! Thank-you so much!! And for showing your support of my story I draw a picture of Kagome and Inuyasha from my story for all of my readers. Also for my five reviews, (inuzards, thavnchick, coolboy87, gothic slave, XxLeahxX), I have been working on a pic for you guys has well to say thank-you for reviewing!

A/N: Secondly I finally have an editor. Her name is Linzee and she has been working on editing the chapters. She will have the first nine chapters in a couple of weeks and then I will be updating those chapters. So with that said on with the chapter. Please review!!

Chapter Ten

The Beginning

Inuyasha couldn't believe his eyes. Here he was standing, as a bystander, watching as the woman he cherished faced off against his full-blooded youkai half brother. Inuyasha was fighting everything inside of him to not run to Kagome's side. She had given him a look that made it clear that Kagome was going to do this and she wouldn't accept any help from any of them.

It felt like an entirety as he looked from the cool emotionless face of Sesshoumaru to the fire filled eyes of Kagome. He had never seen her look like that before. She had of course faced off against other youkai before to get Shikon shards and she had done well. But he, Inuyasha, had always been at her side and now she was facing off against one of the most powerful youkai and there was nothing he could do about it.

"Inuyasha don't you think we should help Kagome-chan?" asked Sango and nearly made Inuyasha jump out of his skin. He was so concerned about Kagome that he didn't even notice that Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kaeda were all standing behind him. Not to mention that some of the villagers had shown up to see what was going on.

"Sango I wouldn't interrupt this if I were you. Sesshoumaru would surely kill you if you tried, not to mention that by the look on Kagome's face she wants to do this without any help."

"Inuyasha is right Sango. Look at Kagome-sama's eyes. She can handle herself out there. I just hope that she will be alright. I can feel her power rising with every passing minute. Even her aura is getting stronger. This is going to one interesting battle and it may reveal some of Sesshoumaru's weaknesses that we could use later on." Miroku walked towards Inuyasha and whispered so only he could hear, "I also don't think that it would hurt to be on guard in case this goes sour for Kagome-sama."

Inuyasha nodded and turned his full attention to Kagome and Sesshoumaru. Kagome had closed her eyes and was breathing very deeply as if she was mediating. Inuyasha looked to Sesshoumaru and saw that his eyes were narrowed and did not like the look that he was giving his Kagome.

Kagome glared at Sesshoumaru. She could feel Inuyasha's uneasiness. Kagome glanced at Inuyasha quickly with a look, which she hoped, told him not to intervene. Kagome turned her attention once again to the youkai Lord before her. Something inside of her was telling her that she could do this. But she didn't know how to fight, least of all a youkai who was probably one of the strongest there were.

However Sesshoumaru looked different to her somehow. Every breath he took Kagome could his youki shift and then fall back into place. She had never seen that before on any other youkai before. It was usually Inuyasha who was attacking and then every once in a while she would jump in and fire off an arrow or two. But now she felt that she could do this and that she had to.

Kagome closed her eyes and started to concentrate. She needed to focus if she was going to do this. She didn't want to go off with Sesshoumaru. She was going to do this with her friends and Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru needed to understand that together they were stronger and divided they were weak. Kagome's breath was coming in long and deep. She was at a complete calm and peace on the inside. She could feel her miko powers starting to grow stronger and she didn't fight it. She was going to need them if she was going to make a stand against Sesshoumaru.

Kagome pulsated once and she felt her miko powers connect with Sesshoumaru's youki. Even though her eyes were closed she could see her fuchsia light connect with Sesshoumaru's light blue youki. Her light flowed over his and then flew past him. Kagome smirked to herself. So Sesshoumaru your youki is able to with stand my miko powers. You will not be purified as easily as I thought.

Kagome opened her eyes, still smirking at Sesshoumaru, and placed her bow and arrow in her left hand and then lowered her hand to her side. Sesshoumaru tilted his head very slightly to the side. Kagome only noticed this because his youki moved slightly. With her right hand she raised it to her necklace and the jewel upon it started to faintly glow.

"So you are ready now I see Sacred Miko." Sesshoumaru stated as he shifted his body into an attack position and drew back Toukijin.

Kagome grinned as her whole body was engulfed in a bright fuchsia light. Everyone that was watching shielded their eyes, all but Sesshoumaru. The light pulsated and shot off of Kagome with a bang like from a shotgun. Kagome was now standing before Sesshoumaru fully armoured. A quiver of arrows on her back, her bow resting behind the quiver and in her hand she held a very beautiful katana.

The blade of the katana looked just like any other blade except that running through the middle of the blade was a thin clear jewel with strange markings engraved into it. The hilt was slender and at the end were two long fuchsia tussles. Kagome turned her body slightly and raised her left hand before herself and drew back her other hand with the katana.

Sesshoumaru watched as the miko before him started to glow. He knew that she was unlocking her armor. She wasn't going to hold back and if she was anything like Hitomi then she would a worthy opponent. The light faded from Kagome and Sesshoumaru saw that she had her katana out. She must have realized that in this fight her arrows would be of no use to her. Sesshoumaru glared at the girl before him. This is going to be interesting.

Sesshoumaru watched as the miko positioned herself to a defensive stance. She was going to let him do the attacking. That was her first mistake. Using his full youkai speed he lunged at the miko and brought his blade quickly upon her. He knew that she wouldn't see his movement and that this was going to be over before it could even get started.

Suddenly a loud gong noise rang throughout the village as metal on metal connected. Sesshoumaru's eyed widened slightly as his blade connected with Kagome's blade. Sparks flew off the blades as Sesshoumaru increased the pressure at which his was using to thrust his blade at Kagome. Kagome held her position and pushed back with the same amount of force.

"If you thought that only one swing of your blade was going to be enough you were sorely mistaken Sesshoumaru. Though you have great speed and strength being a youkai I saw your movements and I know your strength. This will not be an easy task for you!"

"This is going to be interesting."

With a burst of her miko power Kagome pushed Sesshoumaru back and leapt gracefully into the air and landed a few feet back from Sesshoumaru. Just as her feet hit the ground she lunged forward and swung her blade up at Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru countered and this time he blocked her attack. Sparks were now flying all over the village. Wherever they landed it would sizzle and leave a small burn mark.

Kagome and Sesshoumaru were now locked in a fatalistic dance of blades. They were mere blurs of white and fuchsia. Sparks of light blue and fuchsia danced around them. The only time that they appeared was when they were locked head to head in a strength contest to see who could push who back.

Sesshoumaru pushed Kagome back and she lost her footing over a stone that was sticking up out of the ground. Sesshoumaru took her moment of lost balance to leap into the air and coming crashing down upon her. Kagome landed hard on the ground and barely had enough time to raise her katana and block Sesshoumaru's heavy handed swing. Without her feet for support Sesshoumaru was able to push his blade further and further upon Kagome.

"Give up Miko! I will win and you will come with me."

"You don't get it do you!" Kagome yelled through gritted teeth. Sesshoumaru could sense that she was losing strength. "Together will are far stronger then what we would be divided. You have to learn to accept help!"

Sesshoumaru was pushing so hard on Kagome's blade that she was now laying flat on her back and Sesshoumaru was straggling her hips as he put more pressure on his attack. A streak of pressure from Toukijin slashed across Kagome's cheeks leaving a streak of blood in its wake.

Kagome glared at Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru smirked at Kagome as she tried to push him away. "KAGOME!" Kagome half glanced around Sesshoumaru and saw that Inuyasha was starting to run towards her.

"Osuwari!" Inuyasha met dirt with a muffled half yelp and half growl. "Stay out of this Inuyasha! This is my fight!"

Kagome reached up and placed her left hand on the blade on her katana. Sesshoumaru looked at her hand and saw that it was bleeding and the blood was running down the blade towards the hilt. Kagome closed her eyes and as she did so the strange engravings on the blade absorbed her blood and started to glow a crimson colour.

"What do you think you are doing miko…" Sesshoumaru barely finished his sentenced when a shock wave was released from the katana and shot Sesshoumaru back. He wasn't expecting this and with his over confidence that he had just won he flew through the air and when he hit the ground he rolled and lost his grip on Toukijin.

Kagome wasted no time getting up and running towards Toukijin. Toukijin had landed, blade into the ground, in front of Sesshoumaru. Kagome grabbed Toukijin with her left hand as she leapt into the air and came crashing down upon Sesshoumaru. Sesshoumaru had just rolled over, blood running down from his hair line, when Kagome landed on him. She now held both her katana and his Toukijin crisscrossed at his throat.

Sesshoumaru felt the cold steal on his throat and opened his eyes to see Kagome staring into his cool amber eyes. She was now straddling his hips and she was glaring at him. Sesshoumaru intently thinking of way of getting her off of him but she just closed the distance of the blades on his throat. If I move I will be beheading myself.

"You have lost Sesshoumaru and I can see it in you eyes that you know if you move you will loss your head." Kagome spoke it only quietly enough for him to hear. She didn't want the others to hear them talking.

"What do you plan on doing now miko?"

"You said that if you won I was to travel with you but I never said what I wanted if I won." Sesshoumaru just stared at Kagome. His face void of all emotions and Kagome took this as he was listening to her every word. "Since I have just won I will now tell you what I want. You will travel with us. You will join us and help us to unseal Sorano. I know that this is what she wants. And I also know that it was her that told you to come and get me. She probably didn't have enough time to tell you that she would like you to come and get us all. Not just me."

"If I refuse you terms?"

Kagome leaned in a little on the blades that she held at Sesshoumaru's throat. Kagome's katana cut slightly into his throat and a bead of crimson blood appeared. "You will loss your head."

"I never thought that the Sacred Miko would ever kill someone. Even if that someone is a youkai."

Kagome grinned, "I do not wish to do so but we will need your help. You have information about the War of Darkness and you were there sixty years ago. You are needed to help unseal Sorano just as we are needed. I know that you want her back. I can see it in your eyes, no matter how hard you try to hide your emotions. She means a lot to you and the only way she is going to be unsealed is if you and Inuyasha suck it up and work together."

"Are you going to let me up now?"

Kagome giggled softly, "Are you going to join us?"

"I can't agree to anything if every time I make a movement my throat is cut."

Kagome pulled the blades away from Sesshoumaru's throat and stood up. She backed away slightly but still held onto her katana and Toukijin possessively. Sesshoumaru gracefully arose and placed his hand to his throat. He wiped away the bead of blood and the wound healed itself instantly.

"Well?" stated Kagome.

Sesshoumaru glared at Kagome. Here she was standing before him. She was holding the two blades in her hands and was waiting for him to reply. He could easily attack and get his blade back but where was the honour in that. She had beaten him and then she let him up. If he attacked her now it would be bad form and he would not be a part of that.

"I will agree to you terms for now. But be warned that if the others are holding us back I will take you and we will continue on our way without them. There is no room for discussion on this."

Kagome sighed and nodded her head. At least he was agreeing to join them for the time being and that was a start. "Alright Sesshoumaru we have a deal." Kagome flipped Toukijin in her hand and held it, hilt towards Sesshoumaru, to him. Sesshoumaru glanced at the others in the village and then to Kagome. He reached forward and grasped Toukijin and walked off into the Inuyasha forest.

"Sesshoumaru where are you going?" Sesshoumaru stopped and without turning around he replied. "I will meet you in the forest when you have collected your things and are ready to leave. We must leave as soon as possible." Without another word said he walked off into the forest and to Rin and Jaken.

Kagome sighed and felt like her body was going to brake. She had no idea how she just managed to beat the Lord of the Western Lands. It was as if something inside of her had taken control over her body and it was moving her on it's own accord. Kagome held her katana up in front of herself. She smiled to herself as the blade started to glow and then vanished. At least we now have Sesshoumaru to help us with unsealing Sorano. I just hope that the others will understand. But most of all I hope I can keep Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru from killing each other. Kagome sighed again as she turned around.

Kagome's eyes opened in surprise as the villagers started to applaud her. Kagome blinked a few times as she started to walk back towards Inuyasha and the others. As she passed the villagers she could faintly hear some of the comments that they were making. "The Sacred Miko has finally appeared!" "Kagome-sama has defeated a very powerful youkai!" "The keeper of the Shikon no Tama has protected us once again."

Kagome screwed up her eyes from the onslaught of comments. She just wanted to get to Inuyasha and others and leave as soon as possible. When Kagome reached the others she smiled and nearly got the wind knocked out of her as Shippo leapt threw the air and bear hugged her around her waist.

"Kagome I thought you were going to die! How did you learn to fight! Will you teach me! What were you and Sesshoumaru talking about? What was that katana you had? How did you move so fast!"

Kagome placed her hand on the top of Shippo's head and he stopped talking and looked up at her. "Shippo-chan I can't answer you if you ask so many questions. We don't have time right now either. We have to get going. Sesshoumaru will be waiting for us in the Inuyasha forest. He has agreed to join forces with us."

Kagome looked from Shippo's shocked expression to everyone else's. "Kagome-chan did I just hear you correctly and you just said that Sesshoumaru, all high and mighty, has agreed to join forces with us and he is waiting for us in the Inuyasha forest?"

Kagome giggled at the shocked expressions of her friends. "Yes Sango-chan you heard me correctly. Sesshoumaru is going to be helping us to unseal Sorano. But we have to leave quickly. The longer we wait around the more time Naraku has in figuring out a way of unsealing Ryuzaburo."

Kagome looked from Sango to Miroku and then to Shippo. "Sango-chan, Miroku-sama, Shippo-chan would you three please make sure that everything is packed up and ready to leave. And Kaeda-obaja would you please make sure that I haven't forgotten any scrolls. I need to speak with Inuyasha."

Everyone nodded and entered the hut. Kagome took a deep breath as she slowly turned and looked at Inuyasha for the first time. She had barely turned around when she felt his strong arms wrap themselves tightly around her and pull her close to him.

"Inuyasha?"

"Never. Never do that again Kagome!" As Inuyasha said this Kagome could feel him tightening his grip on her.

"I'm sorry Inuyasha but it was the only way. We needed Sesshoumaru to help us and if I didn't fight him then he would have taken me away. I couldn't stand it if I was away from you."

Inuyasha started to run his hand over her back and even though she was wearing armor Kagome could still feel it and it was soothing and relaxing. "When I saw Sesshoumaru pinning you to the ground something inside of me snapped. I thought I was going to loss you." Inuyasha pulled away from Kagome and looked at her face.

Kagome looked up into the concerned filled eyes of Inuyasha. He was really that worried about me? Oh Inuyasha I didn't mean to worry you. "Inuyasha I didn't mean to worry you but you have to understand that I can protect myself now too and I don't want to be a burden to you and other's anymore. I don't want you to thi…."

Kagome was silenced instantly when Inuyasha's lips came crashing down upon hers. His kiss was so possessive and full of love that Kagome was starting to feel weak in the knees. Inuyasha licked and nipped at her lower lip wishing to enter her mouth. Kagome moaned and Inuyasha deepened the kiss by thrusting his tongue into her mouth.

Kagome moaned as Inuyasha's tongue rubbed against her own. Kagome started to rub her own tongue back against his and was pleased when she heard a soft growl come from Inuyasha. Kagome reached her arms around Inuyasha and pulled him closer to herself. Wishing to stay like that forever.

Inuyasha and Kagome broke apart from the kiss both panting and flushed in the face. "Don't ever say that you are a burden to me or the other's Kagome. You are far from it. You have helped us loads of times. And I will always protect you. You are mine now and for forever and as such I will always be there to make sure that you are always safe.

Kagome was still reeling from the kiss that all she did was nod slightly. "Ahem! I hope that I am not interrupting anything?" Inuyasha and Kagome broke apart as fast as lightning. A deep blush seeping into their faces. Miroku grinned as he approached the two of them.

"Everything is ready to go. If you two are done we can leave at anytime." As Miroku finished his statement Sango, Shippo, Kaeda and Kirara all come out of the hut. Inuyasha was staring daggers at Miroku and Kagome was looking into the forest. Out of all people to come out of the hut why did it have to be Miroku? Kagome sighed and quickly put a grin on her face as she turned to face everyone.

"Alright then let's get going!"

"Hai!" Everyone yelled in unison as Kirara transformed into her larger neko fire youkai form and Sango leapt onto on her back with Kagome's pack. Shippo leapt up onto Miroku's shoulder and Inuyasha knelt down so that Kagome could climb onto his back. Kagome turned to Kaeda and gave her a quick hug.

"We will come back to see you when we have unsealed Sorano. I just wish you were able to go down the well and tell my mama that I will probably be gone for quiet awhile." Kaeda hugged Kagome reassuringly. "I know you will be fine child and your mother will understand."

"Thank-you for everything Kaeda-obaja! Take care of yourself!" Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and climbed onto his back. Inuyasha stood up and hooked his arms underneath Kagome's knees. Kagome gripped onto Inuyasha's shoulder and gently squeezed Inuyasha's sides with her legs.

"Let's go!" Inuyasha jumped forward and ran into the forest, closely followed by Miroku, Sango and the others.

Sesshoumaru found Rin and Jaken in no time. They were in a little clearing and Rin was running around chasing a butterfly and whenever she passed Jaken she would poke him and giggle. Jaken was trying his best to keep his cool but was losing the battle. Sesshoumaru entered the clearing and Rin stopped running around and beamed at him.

"Sesshoumaru-sama welcome back! Rin was waiting for you and now you are back! Are we going to go and play with the pretty lady now?"

Sesshoumaru finished walking into the clearing and came to stop a few feet away from Rin and Jaken. Jaken was bowing to Sesshoumaru with his face almost touching the ground.

"Sesshoumaru-sama I thought that you would have come with Kagome? Rin was looking forward to seeing her. Rin thinks that she is very nice and pretty and she helped Rin."

"Rin she will be coming. There has been a change in plans. We will be traveling with the miko and her friends."

"Sesshoumaru-sama are you saying that we will be traveling with your brother Inuyasha?"

Sesshoumaru glared at Jaken and Jaken stumbled over an apology. Sesshoumaru didn't like the idea of traveling with his half brother. But it was the only way to get the miko to join him in his quest to unseal Sorano. We will be together soon my Sorano. I will deal with my brother in order to have you by my side again.

Sesshoumaru sniffed the air and could smell Inuyasha and the others come. There were coming at a pretty good speed and Sesshoumaru was impressed that they did not waste time coming to find him.

Inuyasha leapt through the trees to his right and landed a few feet away from Jaken. Jaken stumbled, out of surprise, at Inuyasha's sudden appearance. Rin looked at Inuyasha and then at Kagome on his back and smiled and giggled as she ran towards them.

"Kagome you are here! Rin was waiting for you and now you are here. Does Kagome want to play with Rin?"

Kagome climbed off of Inuyasha and walked towards the overly excited little girl just as Sango and Miroku appeared behind Inuyasha. "Rin we do not have time to play right now. But while we talk you can play with Shippo-chan. I'm sure that he wouldn't mind playing with you."

Shippo jumped off of Miroku's shoulder and shyly walked up to the little human girl. She was about half a foot taller then he was. "Shippo-chan this is Rin. Rin this is Shippo-chan. Shippo-chan why don't you teach Rin how to play `tag' while we talk. When we are ready to leave we will call you." Shippo nodded and Rin jumped up and down at the thought of having a new person to play with.

Sesshoumaru watched the whole thing and was surprised at how well she handled the two children. She was kind and had found a way to keep them from bothering them further. Sesshoumaru watched as the kitsune ran off with Rin and started to play a strange game that had Rin laughing within seconds. Sesshoumaru smiled inwardly as he watched the two of them play.

"Oi Sesshoumaru why didn't you wait at the village if you were going to join us!" Sesshoumaru's attention was now on Inuyasha and he couldn't help but notice how Inuyasha had stressed the word `us'.

"I am not joining you I am joining the miko. You, Inuyasha, and the other's are only extras."

"Sesshoumaru we are all needed in order to free Sorano. So Inuyasha and you Sesshoumaru need to try and at least get along. If not that then at least tolerate each other. If you two keep fighting we are going to get nowhere and fast."

Sesshoumaru looked at the human as she placed her hands on her hips and glared at both of them. Sesshoumaru noticed that Inuyasha looked like a puppy that had just gotten scolded and Sesshoumaru knew that this woman was not someone to mess with.

"I agree with Kagome-sama. If we all keep fighting then this is going to take even longer and time is something we don't have." Miroku had just walked up to Kagome.

"Alright. Now Sesshoumaru all we know is that we need to go to a village that is to the north east of here to find a priest that knows the location of Yuki-chan. And once we find Yuki-chan she will be able to tell us were the other items are that are needed to unseal Sorano. Is this all we need to know for now or is there something else that you would like to say before we start out."

Sesshoumaru looked at the young human before him. He could tell that she was in a hurry and he liked it. She was powerful and knew that wasting time was not a good thing. "The priest's name is Aiko. At least that was his name if he is still alive. Hitomi had informed him to pass the information onto his first son and so on so that a member of his family would always know the secret until the Sacred Miko came to unseal Sorano. The village is about a two day hike from here. There will be many youkai along the way. So the faster we leave the better."

"Keh! Other then the priest's name you told us nothing that we did not already know. I don't know why we are wasting our time on Sesshoumaru Kagome. We can do this without his help!"

"Inuyasha! Sesshoumaru was the only one of us that was in that war and knows about Ryuzaburo! His information is going to come in handy. Stop being such a pain and learn to get along!"

"I'm not being a pain! And I don't care if Sesshoumaru was there or not. He is just going to get in my way and slow me down!"

"I hardly think little brother that I will be slowing you down. You are the hanyou and you we be slowing us all down but trying to destroy the youkai that we are going to be facing." Sesshoumaru could see the angry in Inuyasha's eyes.

"Keh! With Tessaiga I will kill all the youkai that stand in our way and when I am done with them I will kill you too!" Inuyasha placed his hand to Tessaiga and Sesshoumaru reached for Toukijin.

"Osuwari!" Inuyasha ate dirt for the second time that day. "You two need to knock that off! We are going to be going nowhere is this keeps up. So both of you can suck it up and work it out. We have to get going and now!" Kagome crossed her arms across her chest and glared at Inuyasha and then at Sesshoumaru.

Sesshoumaru couldn't believe this human. And this is only the beginning…
