Suzette closed her eyes and braced for impact. She felt her body lowered gently on the dirt at the bottom of the well, she relaxed and stood up. ‘What happened Kagome?’ she asked ‘where are we? She added as she looked up and saw the blue sky. Kagome didn’t need to be fluent in English to know what she asked; she motioned for Suzette to follow her out of the well.
As they reached the lip of the well, Inuyasha pulled Kagome up and over the edge, “Inuyasha hold my bag,” Kagome said as she flung her bag at him knocking him off balance while she turned around to help Suzette out of the well.
Suzette took her hand and climbed out of the well; she stood up straight and surveyed her surroundings, a nice clearing surrounded by forest. She slowly slid down the outside of the well until she was sitting on the grass. She closed her eyes and took several deep breaths as Kagome told Suzette her story. When she was done Suzette was breathing normally and Kagome wondered if she had understood.
Suzette picked up her bag and jumped into the well, she landed hard and with a very audible ‘oomph!’ she stood and looked up to see four adults and a child looking down at her. She sighed and climbed back out of the well, and was instantly a major object of fascination to the little red haired child who proceeded to pull at her curls trying to straighten them. “This is Suzi,” Kagome said as she took Shippo in her arms to save the assault on Suzette’s hair. Kagome told Suzette the whole story from the beginning.
While Suzette was being told Kagome’s story she had leaned on the well, “ok to reiterate,” she said when Kagome had finished, “you fell into that well” Suzette nodded toward the old well, “were attacked by a giant centipede who tore a jewel from your side that you subsequently broke into who knows how many pieces,” she pointed to Inuyasha “he’s a half dog demon half human who tried to kill you the first time he saw you and has sever anger issues,” Kagome nodded as Suzette continued by pointing to Sango, “she kills demons for a living while searching for her brother who has been kidnapped by a sociopath and keeps a pet demon cat,”
She then pointed to Miroku “this guy is a letch who has a black hole in his hand that will eventually take him and anyone within thirty feet into a black abyss unless he kills the same psycho,” then she looked at Shippo, “and this little cutie lost his parents to a crazy brother duo who were after the aforementioned shards and now basically has adopted you as his mother.”
Suzette took a breath and continued by pointing to Inuyasha, “and this guy is most likely old enough to be my Dad’s great grandfather, he has also already been on the bad end of the Shikon jewel over fifty years ago when this same evil demon killed his first love. Who you happen to be a reincarnation of. Am I doing good so far Kagome?” She said as she took a deep breath.
“All of you have formed this group to take out a super demon who is out to kill all of you for one reason or another but whose ultimate goal is to reform the jewel that you broke AND you are traveling around this,” Suzette motioned around her, “ancient Japan, to gather the shards and reform it before this Naraku does. That about cover it?”
Kagome was glad that she had understood what she had said, “yes that pretty much covers it. How are you getting so much better at Japanese already? You’ve only been here two days, I’ve been studying English for years and I’m not that good at it.” She asked. Suzette shrugged “I’m American Kagome; I’m exposed to at least two or three different languages every day, hell I speak three languages as is, English, Spanish, and Japanese. I’m used to having to absorb other languages, that and your speaking slower. Can we get going then?” Suzette said as she unfolded her sunglasses and then placed them on top of her head.
“You aren’t freaked out at all by any of this?” Kagome asked as she started the group walking toward Edo. “To tell you the truth Kagome I haven’t decided yet, this is the kind of thing that I only thought happened on TV, and I’m not sure that we’re not lying bleeding at the bottom of the well and this is all a figment of my imagination.” Suzette paused to think, “But… my being here has to be for some reason so I can’t just up and run off if it is real.” Kagome nodded.
As they reached the village Suzette was gaining many stares from the local villagers, and not all of them were just curious, many were openly hostile, holding their farming tools in preparation for an attack. They entered the village amidst hushed whispers that Suzette couldn’t make out. She was scared, Inuyasha could smell it, it flowed off of her in waives. “Kagome,” he said “I don’t like the way the villagers are acting, she needs to stay out of here.”
Kagome noticed her fear as well and said to her, “you should wait by the well, we aren’t going to be here for very long and you are nothing like anything the villagers have ever seen before. They think that you are a demon.” Suzette smiled and was grateful for the opportunity to observe Edo from afar.
“Kagome I am not walking that creepy path in that creepy forest all the way back to the well, I’ll be on that hill over there,” Suzette said as she backed out of the village and then hurried up the hill. Once she reached the top she sat down and looked at the little town then she laid back and crossed her arms behind her head and looked at the newly emerging stars, it was beautiful, the stars were different than at home but they were just as bright.

Mean while back in the village
Kagome rechecked the arrangement of the things in her bag, “Kagome,” Kiade said “who is that demon you brought with you?” Kagome shoved one more pack of ramen in her bag. “She’s not a demon baba,” she said as she slung her pack over her shoulders onto her back, “she’s just a different race than us.” Kagome nodded toward the door to signal the others to follow her, as Kagome and the others left Kiade shook her head in disbelief.
Suzette sat up and smiled as Kagome’s group walked up the hill and then had to brace herself as she was greeted eye to eye, less than an inch from each other, by a blond hanyu with a bad attitude, who was sniffing her. Suzette pushed him away and stood up, “ok Kagome, what do we do now?” She seemed perky but Inuyasha could hear the apprehension in her voice. “Well” Kagome said “we still have a little bit of daylight left so we’re going to head out and make camp in an hour or so, hopefully Sesshoumaru will meet up with us soon”
“That sounds great,” Suzette said as she motioned Kagome forward, not 100% sure what she had said, “lead the way.”

Later on the group stopped at a place that they had pre arranged to meet up with Sesshoumaru. Kagome and Sango set up camp as the boys gathered fire wood. Suzette started a fire with the kindling that they had, she had tied her long locks into a tight bun to keep from scorching them as she got the fire lit. Once she had the fire going she grabbed her bag and moved to the base of a tree, where she could see the whole camp, and pulled a large book out of her bag and started reading.
Inuyasha and Miroku returned, and while Miroku and Inuyasha were carrying two arms full of wood, Shippo was proudly sporting a full string of gutted fish. Kagome smiled widely as the young kit presented her with the fish with the grace and barely restrained joy of a six year old.
Kagome turned to Inuyasha as she set the last fish up to the fire; he had been staring at the forest for the last ten minutes. “Is Sesshoumaru nearby Inuyasha?” she asked. Inuyasha didn’t need to answer because as Kagome had asked a small, black haired bundle of energy had crashed through the bushes and run full speed to present her with a bundle of weeds that she had picked.
Suzette looked up from her book at the spectacle that only a small child can make and smiled at her, the young girl screeched to a halt and stared openly at her. Suzette smiled and waved at the girl, ~she looks like Amy~ she thought to herself as Rin waived back at her and then proceeded to skip around the camp site singing “I like fish, I like fish!”
“Suzi, come over here I want you to meet Inuyasha’s brother, Sesshoumaru.” Kagome said as she waived her over, Suzette marked her page and put her book in her bag then walked up to Sesshoumaru, “hi, I’m Suzette but you can call me Suzi,” she said. “You will refer to me as Sesshoumaru –sama, you will go get more wood for the fire girl” he said as he dismissed her by moving to sit by the fire.
Suzette was shocked and angry, she turned to Kagome, ‘did he just give me an order?’ Then to Sesshoumaru “who the hell do you think yomumph mmua” she was cut off by Kagome covering her mouth and dragging her out of the camp.
“Suzi don’t,” she warned as soon as they were out of earshot, “He’s a full demon Lord, and it’s the nature of dog demons to establish dominance.” Suzette listened to her even though all she really wanted to do was go back to camp and drop a load of wood on the Lord’s head.
“If you don’t at least act like he’s in charge a little he will do something to you and it’s more than likely that he’ll kill you slowly” Kagome said with emphasis. Suzette looked into her eyes to see if she was messing with her, she wasn’t.

Later that night after the group had eaten and the children were fast asleep, the adults sat around the fire. Most of them were contemplating the day; Suzette was trying to help Kagome with her English home work. ‘Ok Kagome it’s pronounced Ah-me-ri-ka, not ama-ri-ko there is no o sound at the end’ Kagome was getting frustrated, and Suzette knew it.
She was having a little fun with Kagome, ‘ok Kagome one more word and I’ll leave you alone for the night,’ she said. Kagome looked at her, specifically trying to focus on her words, ‘OK’ Kagome said, ‘what is the word you wish me to say?’ Suzette smiled and simply said, ‘my full name, Suzette Camryn Thribidoux.’
Kagome gave her a look that clearly needed no translating. “Oh come on Kagome I was just kidding, two thirds of my name aren’t even English.” Suzette said as she closed Kagome’s book, “it’s getting to late to study any way.” Suzette yawned out as she threw the book on top of Kagome’s bag and stretched out by the fire, her duffle bag under her head.
Later on after the humans and the hanyu had drifted off to sleep Sesshoumaru was overlooking his brother’s pack, namely the newest addition. She irritated him more than a normal human would; her very presence put him on edge. She looked like a hanyu, but she was clearly human.
She was so strange; her locks of hair twisted and turned around her head. Her eyes looked like she was blind, but he knew that she could see just fine; and her skin, this was the feature of hers that bothered him the most, she was the palest being he had ever seen, human hanyu or demon. Her skin was so light it seemed to glow in the moon light. Even he, the great taiyoukai, Lord of the western lands, who had never worked in a field in his life, looked dark in comparison.
“The sun will be rising soon,” he thought to himself. The girl, Suzi, had slept on the bare earth with no blanket. She hadn’t slept well, turning back and forth until she settled on her stomach with her face buried in her bag.
He watched her as she stretched awake with the first rays of light; arching her back with her arms above her head, her legs and head both curling towards her chest. Suddenly she shot up on her knees and looked at the rising sun, she threw a couple of small logs on the almost dead fire and then stood stretching toward the sky. Sesshoumaru watched her as she lifted her arms and showed off her bare stomach to him before taking her strangely shaped bag and heading to the forest to change, he stood and quietly followed her ~stupid girl, wandering off when there are demons in the area~.
When she had found a quiet clearing she changed her clothes to her shorts that had three buttons and left little to the imagination and a spaghetti tank top that had a pattern of blue petals on it as quickly as possible in the chilly air. She went through the normal motions of getting ready for the day, finishing by dunking her hair in the nearby stream and brushing out her hair.
Sesshoumaru watched her intently, silently stalking her so as to better understand her mannerisms. Secretly he was fascinated by her hair and the tone of her skin. ~She is so pale I can see her blood flow through her veins~ He thought as he followed her back to camp where Sango and Kagome were making ramen for breakfast.
Suzette sat down with her back to the fire to dry her hair, “So Kagome what are we doing today?”
