Chapter Twelve
Arrival and departure
“Uncle Yasha, I thought you weren't coming to get me.” Shippou smiled as he got into the car.
“I wouldn't forget you, how was Kaeda's?” Inuyasha asked, as he waited patiently as his nephew got into his car.
“It was fun; we colored and played video games.” Shippou smiled as they drove away from his babysitter, Kaeda's home. Kaeda had been an old friend of the family for so many years. She had been friends with Inuyasha's mother and even babysat Inuyasha when he was young. That woman was old and he reminded her each time he saw her.
“How was school, runt?” Inuyasha smiled, turning around another corner and headed for Miroku's. Most of the time, Inuyasha got off work before his older brother; he would pick up Shippou and watch him until the old man would come to pick him up at Miroku's place.
“It's going okay.” Shippou shrugged.
Inuyasha nodded and kept driving back home. Shippou glanced up and noticed a small frown on his uncle's lips, “Uncle Yasha?”
“Yeah?”
“What's wrong? You look sad.” Shippou asked.
“Nothing's wrong, just tired from work; your father pushed me to my limits.” Inuyasha forced a small laugh.
“You shouldn't work for father if it doesn't make you happy.” Shippou sighed, “Papa's a jerk when it comes to working.”
Inuyasha laughed, “Oh yeah? And how would you know?”
“Have you seen the amount of chores I have to do?” Shippou asked. Inuyasha laughed again.
“It's okay, I'm fine.” Inuyasha sighed, “I'm just tired, didn't get enough sleep.”
“If you say so.” Shippou smiled sadly.
They both remained silent, driving back home, following routine as Inuyasha pulled up to the familiar home his friend's lived in. Since arriving in Japan again, he began living with his friends, not finding a home of his own. It was easier, his friends wanted him there, and he saved money in the long run.
They pulled up to the driveway and Shippou and him jumped out. Inuyasha leaded the way into the house. However, Shippou paused as he caught sight of a small little paper on the floor. Curiosity took over as he unfolded it and read it over, “…He's…going back.”
Shippou looked up, seeing Inuyasha open the front door, not looking back. Frowning, Shippou placed the paper in his pocket and jumped out of the car.

“We're home.” Inuyasha yelled as he closed the front door behind him.
“Uncle Inu?” Rei came poking around the corner.
“Yeah, what have you been up to?” Inuyasha smiled as Rei came crawling up to him as fast as her folded limbs could carry her.
“Inuyasha how was work?” Sango smiled, “Where's Shippou?”
“Okay, just stress filled as usual.” Inuyasha looked back and watched Shippou come in, frown on his face, “What's wrong Ship?”
Shippou quickly plastered a smile to his face, “Nothing.” The two kids headed out, planning on playing games like they usually did before Sesshoumaru came by.
Inuyasha sighed, sitting down at the table and resting his head in his hands, “Where's Miroku?”
“Miroku had to work overtime,” Inuyasha smirked when he heard a defeated sigh come from the woman, “I'm sick and tired of them treating him like this.”
“I know, but Miroku always liked to work hard.” Inuyasha sighed.
“No, he never gets enough sleep, that boss of his has got to go.” Sango hissed as she started washing the dishes that piled over the sink and counter tops.
“Why don't you do something about it?” Inuyasha smiled.
“I'm a mother of a one year old, a plain old house wife, what could I do?” Sango grumbled, “I need to sleep.”
Inuyasha chuckled as he watched his friend sigh and head for her room upstairs; shaking his head, he headed for the living room to watch some tv.
Slowly his head crawled back to the little note back in the car. When had she put it there? When he was sleeping? He hadn't seen it there before, but when he did, everything became clear. He had to go back.
Standing up, he went to his room and grabbed the usual duffle bag, “Where are you going Uncle Yasha?”
Dega vu hit him as he looked up to see Shippou standing in the doorway. Inuyasha sighed, looking into the unusually green eyes of his nephew, he already knew Shippou was smart, and this just proved it. The little guy already figured he would be leaving, “I have to go.”
Shippou walked up to him, “I found this in the car.” He handed a small piece of paper to him.
Inuyasha didn't even need to look at it; he knew what it was, “I'm sorry.”
“Who is she?” Shippou asked, “Are you in love with her?”
He paused, not knowing if he should be having this conversation with an eight year old, “Yeah…I do.”
Shippou nodded, “Then go, but…” He sighed, “Don't be gone long…I missed you the last time.”
Inuyasha smiled sadly, taking Shippou into a big hug, “I won't…I promise, I'll be gone for a short time…and I'll be back before your birthday, okay?”
“Promise?” Shippou smiled.
Giving him a quick kiss on his forehead he nodded, “Yeah.”
Finishing with his bag, he and Shippou headed to the door only to be caught off guard when Miroku opened it, “What's going on here?”
Inuyasha sighed.
Miroku looked between both of the boys, catching the bag in his friend's hand, “Why?” He asked.
“I've gotta, I can't stay here.” Inuyasha frowned, “It's hard to explain.”
Miroku sighed, nodding, “You better hurry, Sango's gonna shit when she hears you left again.”
Inuyasha looked up, smiling and giving both Miroku and Shippou one last hug before he walked out the door and on his way back to America...back to Kagome.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Inuyasha characters, anime of manga. Rumiko Takahashi does and I'm glad she had the imagination to create such amazing characters to play with.
