Kagome walked into her apartment, toeing her shoes off and leaving them by the door. She laid her keys on the counter as she wiped her eyes tired from work. 'Damn co-workers, leaving whenever they want to, making me pull a god damn double shift.' She walked to her room and paused hearing small noises coming from inside. 'Either Inuyasha is jerking off waiting for me, or..' She opened the door and wished she hadn't. She slowly shut the door and re-traced her steps to the door, placing her shoes back onto her feet. She grabbed her keys and left her and Inuyasha's apartment. She walked down the stairs and waved to Garrett, the door greeter.
"Didn't you just come up here Miss Kagome?" He asked curiously.
"Yeah, I think I forgot something at the office." Her voiced cracked at the last word and left before he responded. She walked down the sidewalk silently crying. 'I thought he loved me. He was so kind. Well, most times he was.' She paused at a small bridge and leaned her arms on the railing. Car horns blared behind her. She sighed. 'Why am I not good enough for him? What did I do to make him turn to Kikyo?' She once again slipped her shoes off and climbed onto the railing and sat. She could hear the headlines now. "Kagome Higurashi, age 20 was found at the bottom of a small river just a few miles from her apartment. Her shoes on the sidewalk. The autopsy reports that she died of a broken heart because of Inuyasha Spencer. She walked into her apartment and found him and his lover, Kikyo Heart in bed together."
Kagome laughed a little at that, a sob breaking through her laugh. She didn't hear the quiet engine pull up and stop by the curb or the car door open and shut. She only noticed someone was with her when two arms encircled her waist and pulled her back over the railing.
"Now, now Kagome-sama. You have a lot going for you right now; it would be a shame to end it, wouldn't it?" A familiar baritone voice responded in her ear. She turned and gasped slightly. "M-miroku..? What are you doing here..?"
"I was passing by when I saw you sitting here all alone. And why are your shoes off?" He led her to his car and slid her easily into the passenger seat and walked over and grabbed her shoes and went around the car and slipped into the driver’s side of the car. He dropped her shoes by her feet,
"Put them on please, I don't wish for your feet to get cold." She nodded and did as he told her to. They drove in silence until they reached Miroku's house.
"Why were you walking out in the cold by yourself?" Kagome stayed silent. Miroku sighed lightly and got out and shut his door and walked around to open her door. He helped her out then led her up the steps of his home. He opened the front door and took off his shoes, Kagome did the same.
"I just came home from work. I had to pull a double shift today. I walked into the apartment, took off my shoes and walked towards our bedroom when I started hearing noises. I opened the door to see Inuyasha.. and Kikyo in bed with each other.." She trailed off, her eyes once again filling with tears. Miroku narrowed his eyes, gripped her arms and pulled her to him, hugging her tightly as she cried her eyes out on his dark purple shirt.
"It's alright Kagome. We'll make him pay. I promise you." She sniffled slightly.
"How..?" He looked down into her curious eyes.
"We'll throw a party, and you can sing that new song of yours. What was it again?"
"Giddy On Up. You mean sing it to Inuyasha..? Then what?" Miroku rested his chin against her head softly.
"Then I'll sing my new song to you. It's called You and Me." Kagome blushed.
"Feel a little better?" She nodded.
"Good, it's nearly bedtime. I bet you can use a snack before bed." He led her to the kitchen. Once they opened the doors, they saw a small, fully cooked meal on two plates waiting for them.
"And it's warm as well." They looked up and saw Keade, Miroku's head cook.
"Thank you Keade-baba. How did you know there were two of us today?"
"I may be old Master Miroku, but that does not mean I can't hear a thing." She angrily turned and stomped into the hallway. They watched as she walked out of eye-sight before Miroku led her to the table.
"She must have heard us in the hall when we came in." They sat and ate in silence.
"Miroku, what exactly were you doing when you saw me?" Kagome looked down at her nearly empty plate.
"I was on my way home from a small gig on your side of town." He looked up from his plate and saw her with her hand over her mouth, yawning.
"I take it your tired Kagome-sama?" She nodded.
"I just pulled a double shift today remember?" Miroku nodded and stood, helping her up before leading her back the way they came and up the stairs.
"I hope you don't mind Kagome. We'll have to share my room. All the guest rooms are currently being renovated." She knew that he probably planned this, but couldn't do anything about it now. Inuyasha and Kikyo were probably still at her apartment.
"I don't mind. But I'm going to have to sleep in what I have on. I don't make a point to bring extra clothes with me."
"You really should Kagome-sama. It usually comes in handy. Well you can borrow one of my shirts if you wish to." Kagome nodded and followed Miroku up the stairs and into his large room. She'd never been in here before. His room was a very dark purple, so dark it was nearly black. A large king sized bed lay against the far wall, covered in crimson comforters and black sheets. He walked to a dresser and pulled out a shirt for her to wear and purple pj pants for him as she took in his room. He handed her the shirt and he walked off into his bathroom, leaving her to change in privacy. By the time he came out, she was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking very sexy in his shirt. He grinded his teeth together and mentally punched himself for thinking such thoughts. 'Not tonight, please not tonight.' The mantra continued in his head as he sat next to Kagome. She leaned her head on his broad shoulder, her eyes closing, his mantra getting weaker and weaker. 'Not tonight... not... to…night…' Her breath evened out letting him know she was asleep. He gently picked her up, his hand slipping behind her back and her knees; he didn't notice the small shiver that went up Kagome's spine in her sleep. He laid her under the covers, slipping under them himself and pulled her to him. She unconsciously snuggled into his warmth. Miroku smiled as he fell asleep.
In the morning when he woke up, he was sad because he had a very wonderful dream and didn't want to wake up. He shifted slightly and pulled the warm, soft body closer to him. 'Wait, body?' He looked down to see a head full of black hair snuggled into his chest. He silently laughed to himself remembering how Kagome got here, and then scowled at the thought of her on the edge of the railing, almost jumping into the ravine. He laid there for a while then sat up placing a pillow in Kagome's arms. He stood and walked from his room and into his study across the hall, not bothering with a shirt. He sat down at his desk and picked up the phone then placed his feet over the surface of his desk. He quickly dialed in a very familiar number and after three rings a deep, cold baritone voice answered.
"Hello?"
"Ah, Sesshomaru, my old friend. How are you doing on this fine morning?"
"What do you want Monk? I'm not going to run off another of your little whores for you again." Miroku sweat dropped. "No, no. That is not that nature of my call."
"Then what is it? And make it quick monk, my temper is running thin."
"Well then, my friend. I might have an Idea that'll make you feel better. I want to set up a birthday party for Inuyasha, invite everyone. Let him have a good time, you know?" Sesshomaru knew Miroku didn't particularly like Inuyasha, so why set up a party just for him?
"I'm sensing there is a underlying scheme in this Miroku."
Miroku grinned, knowing Sesshomaru was in his team. "Oh, yes. There is a huge scheme behind the party. After letting Inuyasha think he's having fun, I want him to be humiliated. Every single thing you have on him I want on giant posters. I want him to feel exactly what he did to Kagome last night. I want to make him feel so insignificant that he pisses himself and runs off, never to be able to show himself in public again."
Sesshomaru Taisho was a huge business man, but he was also Miroku's bass player in his band. They were both very good friends, and Sesshomaru loved Kagome like his sister, he claimed that Kagome was more family than Inuyasha. When they got together, Sesshomaru was outraged. Now he knew that Miroku was in love with Kagome and was alright with that since they were friends.
"What the hell did he do to her?!" He screamed into the phone making Miroku pull he object from his ear.
"Kagome came home from work late since she pulled a double shift, after she got to her apartment she found Inuyasha in bed with Kikyo. She walked a few miles from her apartment and stopped at a bridge. I happen to be going home from our gig when I saw Kagome on the railing threatening to jump into a very steep ravine. I pulled her down and brought her here to my home. She's still asleep." The phone was silent for a few moments before he heard Sesshomaru growled into the intercom on his desk.
"Sango, I want you to get Bankotsu and send him to Inuyasha and Kagome's apartment. There is a scandal going on." Miroku then heard Sango's soft reply.
"Scandal?"
"Between Inuyasha and Kikyo Heart." He turned off the intercom after confirmation from Sango.
"Miroku, his birthday is in two days," Of course Sesshomaru would know Inuyasha's birthday. He always sent him the worst things in the world to piss him off.
"What exactly are you going to do to ruin the party?"
"Well, I thought we'd start by inviting miss Kinky-ho to the party and when she shows I'll briefly comfort Kagome, then precisely at half past ten, she will go up on the stage and sing one of her new songs. After which, we will string up the posters, granted they'll be big enough to make out the finer details, and humiliate him." A small noise was heard outside of the study door and was coming from his room.
"I'm sorry my friend, it seems like Kagome-sama has awoken."
"I'll be there about seven after work." They both hung up the phone before Miroku sat up and stood from his desk and jogged back to his bedroom where he saw Kagome sitting up in bed rubbing her eye softly.
"Where were you?" She asked softly, her voice laced with sleepiness.
"I had to make a phone call. I apologize for not telling you. Oh and Sesshomaru will be here after work." Kagome nodded and stood from the bed, not noticing the shirt bunched around her hips revealing her dark red panties to him. She walked to Miroku and hugged her arms around his torso, leaning her head on his chest softly.
"How are you feeling today, Kagome-sama?"
"Still tired. But I'm feeling a little better." He slowly, hesitant almost, wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on top of her head.
"Kagome-sama..." He trailed off trying to decide if he should tell her how he felt. He trembled slightly and pulled her closer.
"Yes, Miroku-sama..?" Her nose tickled the apex of his throat softly.
"I... I'm not sure how you will take this Kagome-sama, especially after last night." She snuggled into his chest softly.
"You love me don't you? And not just in a brotherly way like Sesshomaru." Miroku jumped lightly, surprised.
"H-How did you k-know...?" Kagome giggled softly.
"Can I tell you Miroku, that I love your voice?" She blushed softly, but he couldn't see her face since she was pressing her forehead into his chest.
"Thank you Kagome... but that didn't answer my...""You talk in your sleep." She interrupted him softly.
"I'm sorry Kagome. I know this is a really bad time for you right now. You probably don't want my affections." She whispered something and he pushed her away softly so he could look at her.
"I.. I'm glad last night happened Miroku. I've known Inuyasha has been cheating on me for six months now. I was going to break up with him on his birthday. I fell in love with someone else Miroku. And I'm glad he came to my rescue last night." She looked down blushing.
"Kagome, who..." Miroku has to admit he was a bit slow at times. His eyes widened slightly as she hugged him tightly, her nose tickling his bare chest.
"You Miroku. I love you. And only you."
"Didn't you just come up here Miss Kagome?" He asked curiously.
"Yeah, I think I forgot something at the office." Her voiced cracked at the last word and left before he responded. She walked down the sidewalk silently crying. 'I thought he loved me.
