Chapter 3: Another couple is formed
Meanwhile back at the celebration, everyone was eating, and visiting and having a good time. Sango sat back and watched everyone around her. Rin was playing next to the fire with Kirara and Shippo, Sesshomaru kept a watchful eye on her. Kaede was seated comfortably next to the fire not far from Sango. Looking around, she spotted Miroku seated next to yet another gorgeous young woman; she was laughing at something he was saying. With a sigh, Sango rose "Kaede, I'm going to take a walk and get some air. I'll return shortly." Kaede nodded, and looked around. She met Miroku's eyes as he looked around. He saw Sango walking away, said something to his companion, and hurried over to Kaede.
"Where did Sango get off to, Kaede-Babba?" he asked, concern in his voice.
"She went for a walk, to get some air, she said" Kaede answered.
"I see. Thank you." With a respectful bow, Miroku turned and followed the same path Sango had taken a short while ago. He walked the path for a few minutes before it opened up into a beautiful moonlit glade next to a stream. He spotted Sango sitting next to the water on a large boulder. 'She is so beautiful' he thought watching her, the moonlight reflecting on her raven hair. She shifted her position to look back and see him standing there. "May I join you?" he asked as he walked over to the rock.
"You seemed quite content at the celebration, no need to remove yourself from that" Sango's voice was harsher than she intended because she was trying to hide her nervousness. This was the first chance they had had to be alone since the battle, and Miroku's cure.
A hurt look flashed across Miroku's face, but he made no move to leave "I deserved that" he said quietly
Sango looked at him, not quite believing. "What do you want, Houshi-sama?"
"Sango, please. We haven't had a chance to talk since we returned to the village" Miroku stepped closer to the boulder.
Sango slid over on the rock, wrapped her arms around her knees and said "there isn't anything to talk about. You are cured. You have your whole life ahead of you now." She looked at Miroku's right hand, without the sealing beads and cover.
Miroku leaned up against the boulder, staring at his right hand. "I still can't believe it's real. I expect to wake up to find it's all a dream" he said.
"It's not a dream. We fought long and hard to defeat Naraku, to achieve all our goals" Sango said.
"I know. What do you plan to do now?" Miroku asked, shifting his gave to the woman sitting next to him.
"I don't know. I don't think any of us have given it any thought Sango replied.
"Sango, do you remember what I told you that day at the river? Miroku asked thoughtfully.
"Hmm? Oh, yes. About that, Miroku, you don't have to stick to that now that you are cured. You have the right to choose..." Sango's nervousness was revealed, she was speaking rather fast but Miroku cut her off with a finger to her lips.
"Ssshhh. I meant it. I have chosen, I was afraid now that I was cured, I wasn't good enough for you, that you would want out, I didn't want to face that so I stayed away from you at the village" Miroku confessed. He looked at Sango and was surprised to see tears glistening in her eyes.
"Miroku" it was almost a whisper, barely audible above the stream, but Miroku heard it. He moved to sit on the boulder next to Sango.
"Can you forgive me, Sango?" he asked. Sango was sitting in the same spot, shaking, tears flowing freely down her face. He reached over and gently pulled her to him, and wiped away the tears. "What's wrong?" he asked gently.
"Miroku, I, I, I'm not like the woman you were with tonight. I'm not lady like, or beautiful or.... She touched the bruise on her cheek from the battle with Naraku.
"Sango, listen to me. You are beautiful, even if you don't see it. You are strong, courageous, intelligent. " Miroku said.
"Thank you, but no, I can't be beautiful. I have scars, a large one on my back," she paused and swallowed "from Kohaku." Tears still flowed down Sango's cheeks.
"Ssshhh. That doesn't matter, you are beautiful, the most beautiful to me. " Miroku wrapped his arms around Sango. He used his thumb and gently wiped away more tears from Sango's eyes. He turned her around to face him. "I have loved you for as long as I can remember. I couldn't show it because I couldn't take the chance of taking you with me or leaving you behind if the wind tunnel had been my downfall. It was hard not sharing with you, trying to keep you at a distance, knowing I was hurting you. Now I can show you as I have wanted to." With that, Miroku leaned forward and kissed Sango's lips. She melted against him, wrapped her arms around his neck, he wrapped his arms around her. When the kiss was finally broken, Miroku reached up and smoothed a stray strand of Sango's hair behind her ear. She looked at him, smiling. "Sango, will you marry me and bear my children?"
**Yep, that's the ending point! Gotta stay tuned for more. Reviews are always welcome, never fear the next chapter will be posted soon!
