Revelations and Training continues:

Bankotsu faced Kagome and asked the question that had been nagging him ever since they had stopped for supplies. "Why did you kiss my cheek earlier? Is it because you were jealous?"

She blushed slightly under his sapphire gaze "I was not jealous." She splashed some water on his face.

Bankotsu blinked at the unexpected water droplets falling in his eyes and pushed his bangs up. "Yes you were," he laughed and splashed her back.

Her face flushed to a dark rosy hue from embarrassment Her mind flashed back to the incident earlier. Remembering exactly how she felt, she dropped her head to her chest and mumbled, "I didn't like her touching you."

'Please don't let him hear that.'

His face spread into a smug smirk. 'Ha! I knew it.' He dunked her head, laughing at his own childish behavior and grinned.

Coming up to the surface, Kagome splashed a miniature wave of water at him. "Hey!"

Taking that as an open challenge, he splashed her back. Laughing they splashed each other and then played water tag, like young kids thoroughly enjoying acting carefree for once.

Afterwards they both burst out laughing and sat back to enjoy the relaxing warmth of the springs.

Bankotsu and Kagome both sat side by side, thinking back to the training grounds and the kiss that had been interrupted... That kiss that meant more than either wanted to admit to themselves, let alone each other.

'I hate when she becomes withdrawn and silent like this.' Bankotsu stood up, allowing the water to flow down his chiseled chest to pool back in the springs around his waist. He turned to face Kagome.

Her eyes widened as he moved to stand directly in front of her, staring into her chocolate orbs. She swallowed nervously as her breathe caught in her throat.

His hands settled lightly on her shoulders and he pinned her to the rock wall. He gently cupped her face and asked, "You're not afraid of me now, are you?"

She stared into his mesmerizing eyes and whispered, "Bankotsu."

'l love the way my name sounds coming from her lips.' Bankotsu smirked and slowly slid his thumb over her lips, eager to taste her sweet kisses again.

His tongue moistened his dry lips. His head bent and his lips hovered a mere inch away from hers.

Her heart beat against her chest and her breath hitched in anticipation.

He was about to claim her lips… when out of the corner of his eyes he caught movement and pulled away frowning. "What was that?"

Kagome blinked a few times and snapped out of her sensual haze. "What?"

Bankotsu stared into the direction he'd seen the ghostly white line moving. "That," he pointed at a strange looking light in the sky.

Kagome's eyes widened. "Soul collector," Her eyes dimmed a bit.

With a look of confusion upon his face, he asked, "What's a 'soul collector'?"

Kagome spoke quietly. "It means that Kikyo is calling for Inuyasha." She looked away from Bankotsu, and climbed out of the springs.

Aggravated that the moment had been ruined, Bankotsu snorted and glared at the object of his contempt. He turned back to the girl beside him noticing how quite she'd gotten again. "Let's get dressed."

Kagome sullenly dressed. "Inuyasha will most likely go sneaking off to see her."

Bankotsu quickly dressed. He grabbed her hand leading her back to the camp. Halfway back to the others, the duo spotted Inuyasha sprinting away from the camp, hot on the tail of the lone messenger.

Bankotsu tugged on her hand to stop. He breathed against Kagome's ear. "Looks like you were right." Quickly he strapped Banyu to his back. 'We're going to find out exactly what that damned selfish mutt is up to.'

Without warning, he scooped up a somewhat startled Kagome into his arms. He held her securely to his chest and ran quietly after Inuyasha.

Back at the campJakotsu continued trying to console the sobbing girl. He sighed in relief as he noticed her sobs quieting down.

A few minutes later, Tara pulled out of his embrace wiping away her tears and turned to stare solemnly at the stars.

Jakotsu waited for her to speak. When nothing came forth a good while later, concerned that she was still hurting, Jakotsu asked, "Do you want to talk about it?"

She shook her head and whispered, "It was a nightmare, that's all."

Silence reigned around them once again, save for the sounds of the night creatures like owls and the occasional cricket.

Jakotsu scowled. 'It had to be more than just a nightmare… The stupid wench is lying to me!' His eyes shot wide open. 'What the hell is wrong with me? Why do I care what this wench does or doesn't tell me?'

Tara feigned interest in the stars.

He muttered, "Whatever."

Tara hid a smile. 'Maybe he isn't so bad after all?' Her eyes widened at what she just thought, and the implications it led to. She stiffened and shook her head. 'What the hell? Where did that come from?' She sat there under the starry sky, puzzling over her thoughts and saddened by her memories.

Seeing that she wasn't going to say much more, Jakotsu sighed in annoyance and peeked over at the girl beside him.

However, he was not prepared for what he saw. He felt his heart lurch at the sight of her eyes filling again with unshed tears.

Tara blinked as a tear slipped down her cheek. She swiped at the tear and scrubbed her arms over her eyes.

Unable to take much more of the memories the nightmare had unleashed, Tara stood. "I'm going for a walk." Slowly she moved away from her bed and Jakotsu.

Jakotsu sighed as his hand unconsciously whipped out grabbing her wrist.

She whirled around to face him.

"I'll go with you."

Her brow rose questioningly at him.

He scowled. "Big brother would have a fit if I let anything happen to you since you are now one of us," He used his eyes to dare her to argue with him.

Tara's eyes widened and her breath hitched. Her heart skipped a beat and she swallowed then nodded.

Jakotsu stood up strapping Jakotsou to his back.

Tara collected her own weapons and looked around. "Speaking of which… Where is he?"

Jakotsu's gaze scanned the area and widened. "The wench and Inuyasha are gone too."

Tara nodded. "So I noticed."

Jakotsu's brows furrowed. "What the hell is going on?"

Tara shook her head and began walking off into the woods.

Jakotsu hurried after her grumbling. "Stupid impatient wench, She better not get hurt before I find her ass."

Sesshomaru was sitting diligently in a tree watching over his sleeping ward. He frowned. He'd seen his half brother sneak off after a glowing light, and he knew the mercenary and the young miko still hadn't returned from their 'bath' yet. He shook his head as he watched the gay man and the other wench wander off into the woods.

Sesshomaru felt a slight twitch go through him and then snorted. 'It's not my job to protect those who are foolish enough to wander off in the dead of the night.' He settled back against the tree continuing his silent vigil over his young ward and her new friend.

Jaken leaned against Ahun and was sleeping.

With Kikyo:

Inuyasha broke through the trees and came to a screeching halt. His eyes settled longingly on the priestess before him, surrounded by her soul collectors.

"Inuyasha, you came," spoke the clay priestesses in a voice devoid of emotion.

"K…Kikyo," Inuyasha whispered as he moved toward her. She welcomed him with open arms as he pulled her into a loving embrace. He buried his nose in her hair and inhaled deeply, breathing in the smell of graveyard soil. 'It's not the same. I miss her fresh Jasmine scent.' he thought sadly, longingly for the days of the past when she was alive.

Bankotsu arrived. He silently lowered Kagome to her feet, while motioning for her to stay quiet.

She nodded and focused on the scene before them. 'So he did go to see her after all.' A small sigh escaped her. 'He promised he wouldn't sneak around anymore.'

Through the coverage of some nearby bushes, the two cursed teenagers eavesdropped on the two-star crossed lovers.

"Kikyo... How I've missed you," Inuyasha's husky voice was full of longing.

Kikyo flashed him a rare smile. "I've missed you too, love," Her arms wrapped around his waist and her face buried onto his chest. 'He's so warm.' she thought longingly.

Inuyasha held her close to his heart "Kikyo my heart, my love." He lowered his head to capture her lips in a romantic kiss filled with yearning.

A sob escaped and Kagome covered her mouth with her hand, unable to look away. Tears gathered in her eyes. 'I always knew he loved her, but he said he loved me too. Why does he keep doing this? Can't he see how much it hurts me?'

Bankotsu's jaw clenched. 'There that baka-yasha goes hurting her again.' He could see the pain etched on the girl's face clear as crystal. Silently he enfolded his arms around Kagome and held her head to his chest.

A muffled sob was heard.

Inuyasha's ears twitched at the slight sound, as his amber eyes flashed open at the implications. 'Someone is here…'

Kikyo broke the kiss, stepping back. "It seems that we have company, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha slowly turned around and gazed at the trees. His jaw clenched. "Come out, now!"

Kagome pushed away from Bankotsu's chest and they stepped around the trees.

'How dare they spy on us?' A low growl rumbled in his chest.

"It's alright, Inuyasha," Kikyo reached out a hand to stop the growling hanyou. "This concerns them as well."

As her legs threatened to collapse beneath her, Kagome leaned into Bankotsu.

He automatically warped a protective, yet much needed arm around her, pulling her into his chest. The same arm supported her slight weight, keeping her upright.

Bankotsu scowled at the pair. "What do you mean it concerns us?" His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

Kagome sniffled, and then looked up. "What's going on?" There was a slight tremble to her voice.

"Kagome," Inuyasha's eyes softened a tad and his voice was laced with regret.

Bankotsu shot him a look that clearly warned 'back off!' and his arm slightly tightened around Kagome's waist.

Inuyasha sighed.

Kikyo laced her hand through the hanyou's as she stared the mercenary in the eye. After a few uncomfortable moments, she answered evenly. "I have heard a rumor that Naraku has cursed you and Kagome. Is that true?"

'Just where the hell is she going with this?' Bankotsu voice hardened. "What if it is?"

Inuyasha growled and moved towards the mercenary. "Back the hell off corpse! She is only trying to help."

Bankotsu laughed bitterly. "Corpse eh? So, what does that make her?" He stabbed a finger in the direction of Inuyasha's lover.

"Why you…" Inuyasha's growl heightened and he moved to confront the mercenary leader.

Kikyo held Inuyasha back with a hand intoning, "He only speaks the truth, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha huffed and stayed put scowling at the teenage male.

Looking at Kikyo Kagome answered, "Yes it's true. Why do you ask?"

Kikyo nodded. "I needed to know." She turned to face Inuyasha. "The four of us need to speak; I will first erect a barrier."

Shooting a look at her reincarnation's panicked face, she assured, "Neither Inuyasha nor Bankotsu will be harmed while inside my barrier."

Kagome breathed a sigh of relief, and nodded slowly.

Bankotsu's brow rose questioningly and his head tilted to one side. 'Hm, what could possibly be so all fire important that the dead miko is erecting a barrier?'

Kikyo chanted and moved her hands in the air, until a dome of energy rose around the four of them. After the dome had been completed she opened her eyes. "Naraku cast that spell in order to weaken you both. However… What he has done is just the opposite."

Kagome's eyes bulged and she gasped.

Inuyasha faced his love. "What do you mean, Kikyo?"

Kikyo faced the unwitting victims. "Naraku didn't expect you to become close, he expected you to drive each other insane until one killed the other, thus killing both. But, the truth is that he has only made you both stronger."

Kagome chewed her bottom lip. "What all do you know about this curse, Kikyo?"

"It combines the souls. Thus weakening the two when one is good and the other evil."

At her reincarnation's hopeful look, Kikyo explained, "Even I do not know how to break it."

Kagome, Bankotsu, and Inuyasha's eyes all widened in shock.

"However this time it was different. You two have learned to work together, thus you have both become stronger."

Bankotsu blinked and his brows knitted together. "Really…? Explain then."

Kikyo stared him in the eye. "You have shared each other's dreams, have you not?"

Both Kagome and Bankotsu's breaths hitched and their eyes widened which was conformation enough for Kikyo.

She nodded. "Midoriko has visited me as well."

Kagome looked a bit pale. "When?"

"Two nights ago, she explained the reason things went wrong fifty years ago was because Inuyasha and I didn't have enough trust between us," answered Kikyo.

Bankotsu swallowed nervously. "She warned us that if we are not careful the past would repeat itself."

Kagome nodded. "She said that she had done it 'in order to teach us to recognize and appreciate one another's inner strengths, as well as to draw on one another's strengths. This way, even though I am physically weaker and the easier target, we will both be able to protect one another and I will be strengthened by drawing on the bond between us and thus prolonging our lives together.' right Bankotsu?" Kagome turned to him for conformation.

Bankotsu nodded his agreement.

Kikyo intoned, "Inuyasha and I did not trust each other enough, and thus Naraku was able to deceive us both."

Kikyo eyed the two younger beings. "Learn from our mistakes, that you do not repeat them," sadness crept into her eyes.

Inuyasha pulled Kikyo into the strength of his arms tenderly cradling her to his heart. He breathed into her clay ear. "I'm sorry Kikyo."

She returned the embrace. "It's okay Inuyasha. We have both paid for our mistakes."

Kagome's heart hurt at the fact that the two lovers had been torn apart in such a tragic way.

Bankotsu's own heart filled with sympathy for the couple before him.

Taking a deep breath, Kagome turned to Bankotsu. "Inuyasha and I need to talk." She gazed deeply into his sapphire orbs, her own pleading in hope that he would understand.

With a look of trust in his eyes, Bankotsu squeezed her hand before leading her to the embracing couple.

As the soft sounds of Kagome's feet advanced toward them, Inuyasha looked at Kagome. He released his grip on Kikyo and stared Kagome in the eyes. "I love you Kagome... I really do and I know I've messed up a lot. I wish there could be something more between us, but I know I lost my chance a long time ago; my chance with Kikyo," a soft, regretful smile graced his features, "and my chance with you."

Taking Kikyo's hand he looked into the dead priestess's eyes. "Kikyo will always be my mate in my heart." His voice was full of adoration and love as.

Kagome's face spread into a sad smile and tears threatened to fall from her eyes. "I've always known that you love her deeply, Inuyasha." She admitted more to herself than him.

She turned away. "You two were torn apart fifty years ago and never had a chance to even live your lives." Wiping some tears from her eyes, she confessed, "I just didn't want to have to face the world alone."

Bankotsu squeezed her hand in silent encouragement and as a reminder that he would be there for her. 'Not like I have much of a choice just yet… But I know deep down in my heart that this feisty woman has worked her way into my life - permanently.'

Inuyasha wrapped Kagome in a brotherly hug, reaffirming his promise to her. "Kagome, I will always protect you. You're my best friend." He pulled back from the embrace, his arms still around her shoulders. He stared at her with an affectionate gaze.

Kagome cried happily and embraced him. "Thank you Inuyasha. You're my best friend in the whole world." She kissed his cheek and whispered, "Be happy Inuyasha."

Inuyasha kissed her forehead and whispered, "Thank you, Kagome."

Bankotsu looked on knowing that she obviously cared deeply for the hanyou. A slight sadness crept into his eyes, and heart. 'She'll never give up on him.' He kept his eyes on Kagome.

Kagome moved over to Kikyo pulling her into a warm embrace. As the women hugged each other, Kagome sniffled. "Take care of him, Kikyo and be happy."

'Perhaps I have misjudged her all of this time.' Kikyo smiled. "Thank you for understanding, Kagome."

Growing uncomfortable with the mushiness, Inuyasha said, "Keh! It's not like I'm leaving the group or anything, wench." He crossed his arms over his chest and smiled at Kagome.

Kagome gave him a small smile. "I know."

Feeling left out Bankotsu shifted his feet staring intently at the ground. 'I wish they would just hurry and get this shit over with already so that I can get some sleep.'

Kikyo lowered the barrier. "The barrier is now lowered. You're free to go whenever you wish."

Kagome walked over to Bankotsu wrapping her arms around his waist. "Bankotsu, hold me, please?"

Shock covered his face. "Sure." Of their own accord his arms wrapped around the girl holding her close to his heart.

Bankotsu looked down at the girl in his arms. "Are you going to be okay?"

Kagome smiled into his chest. "Yeah, I will be okay," Her hold on him tightened slightly.

Bankotsu rested his cheek against her head and held her for a moment as silence filled the air.

Inuyasha's gaze narrowed at the sight of the mercenary and Kagome. 'I'm going to have to have a long talk with that guy soon…. and preferably without Kagome's knowledge.'

Seeing the look in his eyes, Kikyo wrapped an arm around Inuyasha. The look she sent him conveyed, 'Don't worry so much.'

Inuyasha sighed heavily and held her close to his heart.

Kagome stepped back from her warrior's chest, entwining her finger sin his hand. "Let's go back."

Bankotsu blinked a few times, and then nodded. They silently walked away leaving the lovers alone.

Kikyo smiled gratefully as she watched the younger 'couple' walk away.

Kagome yawned wide and rubbed her eyes.

Having taken notice of her slightly exhausted state, Bankotsu scooped her into his arms, quieting her objection with a stern look. "We have both had a long day. You rest; I will get us back to camp."

Too tired from the day's events to argue, Kagome closed her eyes and snuggled into his chest. She whispered, "Thank you, Bankotsu."

He grunted signaling he'd heard her and ran easily toward the camp. 'I wonder what will happen to this group tomorrow.'

Upon arriving back at their camp, Bankotsu set Kagome down long enough to lay out her sleeping bag. He gently eased her back into his arms and cradling her carefully so as not to disturb her slumber; laid Kagome on top of the sleeping bag.

After making sure that she was covered, he placed Banryu beside him. Bankotsu rolled onto his side and with a feather like kiss to her forehead, affectionately whispered, "Sleep well, Kagome."

He quickly rolled onto his side with a hand firmly on Banryu's hilt, closing his own eyes and fell into an exhausted slumber.

From his perch in the tree Sesshomaru watched this and a small smirk graced his otherwise emotionless face.

Tara walked aimlessly trying to escape her inner turmoil. Once Jakotsu caught up to her, he grasped her elbow tightly; swinging her around to face him. "Do not ever do that again! You may be able to fight, but you are still a girl. You could have gotten killed," anger was evident in his eyes and face.

Tara's eyes narrowed and he hands balled into fists. "I may be a woman, but I am not weak!"

Eyes hard, Jakotsu scoffed. "Whatever, just stay beside me and we will walk together."

Tara growled. "I can take care of myself, you know?" She glared daggers at the cross dressing mercenary who was rapidly pissing her off.

Jakotsu's jaw tightened. "Bankotsu would have my head if I let something happen to you! Like it or not you are one of us now and as such, under our protection. So deal with it!"

Tara huffed and spun on her heel, storming back towards the hot springs.

Growling his own annoyance Jakotsu followed beside her. 'Damn stubborn wench! Is she trying to get herself killed? Doesn't she realize Bankotsu would have both are hides if anything happened to her'" Jakotsu shuddered involuntarily at the thought of exactly what Bankotsu would do to them is she get hurt while under his and the others protection.

'He would personally skin our hides as he would feel responsible as the leader and all' Jakotsu sighed. 'Not to mention he already made it clear that I would be held responsible for her actions! Why the hell did I even bother getting myself into this mess?'

Reaching the hot springs Tara glared at him. "If you insist on babysitting me, at least get on the other side this time!"

Jakotsu scowled, but stripped and climbed in on the other side of the rock facing away from the 'Troublesome bitch,' assuring his beloved snake like sword was within easy reach.

Tara stripped and slid into the water after assuring her katana and daggers were in easy reach just in case they were needed. Tara sighed in bliss as the waters began working their soothing magic.

Uncomfortable with the silence Jakotsu asked in a softer tone, "So are you ready to talk about it yet?"

Blowing out a breath Tara feigned ignorance. "Talk about what?"

"Stubborn and irritating bitch," Jakotsu grumbling under his breath. He grit his teeth, hissing, "The nightmare, what else?" Irritation was evident in his tone.

Tara sighed hugging her knees to her chest. "It was about when granddad fought Naraku."

Shocked he had actually gotten an answer this time, Jakotsu blinked. "What happened, Tara?" His voice was full of genuine concern.

Tara sighed heavily and spoke quietly. Sadness, regret, and affection for the old man laced her tone as she spoke of her past. "One day Granddad and I were in the field collecting herbs. After a while granddad became alarmed and ordered me to get my dad and uncle. I was to tell them to go to him immediately. I knew something was wrong and didn't want to leave him, but did as bid."

Leaning around the rock to see and listen to her clearer, Jakotsu encouraged, "Go on."

Tara lowered her chin on her knees and stared out to nowhere. "Daddy, my uncle and I all ran out and found granddad and Naraku talking. We all fought together, but daddy and granddad had to be carried off the field by several of the villagers."

She took a deep breath and sadness filled her eyes. "Daddy had been stabbed through by one of Naraku's tentacles. I was busy trying to heal him and everyone thought granddad had destroyed Naraku, but he had used up most of his spiritual energy to do so."

Tears formed in her eyes again. She whispered, "Granddad died not long after that." She sobbed brokenly again at the painful reminder of how she had lost her beloved granddad.

Tears trailed down her cheeks to mingle with the water. "I'm glad my bastard uncle is gone, but I also lost my father when the village was recently slaughtered."

Jakotsu's heart ached at the sound of her broken sobs and he stood up walking over to her. He sat beside her and pulled the broken girl into his arms. His tone was surprisingly soft. "It's okay, let it out."

She instantly stiffened at the contact, but upon hearing his words it was like a dam had burst. She buried her head against his chest and cried her heart out.

After shedding her last tear, she silently sobbed a bit and then pushed away from his naked, wet chest. "Thank you," she looked away not wanting to see his pitying look.

Jakotsu however wasn't showing pity, only concern.

Sighing, Tara moved to get out of the water, but was stopped by Jakotsu who had reached out, taking hold of her wrist. "I'm sorry that your grandfather died. It's obvious that you two were close," he said softly staring into her eyes.

Tara gave a small smile. "Yes we were very close. And thank you."

Jakotsu released her hand and moved to get out and dress as she did. After retrieving their weapons they walked back silently to camp.

Both were pleasantly surprised to see that Kagome and Bankotsu were now at camp sleeping, while noting that Inuyasha was still missing. They settled in to sleep on their blankets far enough apart they were not touching and fell almost instantly asleep.

The next morning an hour before sunrise Bankotsu groaned in protest as his internal clock told him it was time to get up. He looked at the slumbering girl beside him and gently shook her awake.

Kagome protested trying to wave him off, but he shook her again. "Kagome, I'm not any happier about it than you are, but we need to wake up so we can awaken the others, eat, and then head out."

Kagome groaned but sat up. Together they walked toward the cool spring, splashing cold water on their faces to help them wake up. After they had completely woken up, they walked around waking up the others.

Jakotsu jumped up after getting the timer treatment again. He scowled grumpily towards Kagome.

Bankotsu laughed and led Kagome away by the hand. They woke up the monk and slayer, who both grudgingly stood up and began setting about making a fire and collecting water.

Jakotsu and Tara were ordered to catch some fish for everyone's breakfasts and did so grudgingly.

Kagome went about folding her sleeping bag and blankets and repacked her bag. 'It hurt seeing Inuyasha and Kikyo last night, but not quite as much as it used to… Could it be because Bankotsu held me?' She frowned. 'Inuyasha never tries to comfort me like he did. Why is that?'

Kagome sighed and shoved the blanket inside her bag. 'I felt like Bankotsu genuinely cared about my feelings last night. Why would that make such a difference? Speaking of Bankotsu—what's with him? Lately he's been kissing me more often.' Her cheeks flushed as she remembered how tender the last kiss had been.

As her thoughts focused on him, she continued to repack her bag, stealing glances at him.

Bankotsu stood off a ways, yet within the five foot mark, not wanting a repeat of yesterday's painful event.

Kagome's heart fluttered as she noted how handsome he looked standing tall with the massive Banryu laying heavily on his shoulder as he stood, overseeing the breaking down of camp looking every bit the strong and fearsome leader he was rumored to be.

'Does he like me... like me, or is he just playing games?' She sighed as she turned back to her huge yellow back pack, stowing the last thing in it. 'Why does everything have to be so complicated?'

After pulling out fresh bandages and ointment, Kagome sat down and pulled off the old ones.

Without a word, Bankotsu knelt beside her. Having observed what she did yesterday, he proceeded to cleanse and bandaged her wounds carefully.

Kagome blinked and whispered, "Thank you."

Nodding his head once in acknowledgment, Bankotsu stood to his feet once he had finished wrapping her healing wounds.

Kagome finished repacking her bag as Tara and Jakotsu brought in the fish and began cooking it over the open fire.

Kagome sat back, waiting for breakfast, covertly sneaking glances at Bankotsu. 'Why do Bankotsu's lips feel so good against mine? Why do I feel so safe in his arms?' She frowned. 'He is a killer, yet I feel so protected and safe when he's near or even in his embrace, why is that'?

She chewed her bottom lip. 'I know Bankotsu sees me as his friend, but could there be more than just that?' Kagome contemplated this as she sat waiting for breakfast. She continued covertly sneaking glances at Bankotsu and ended up blushing.

Without being so obvious about it Bankotsu was secretly admiring Kagome's long slender legs and thick thighs. 'I've always been a sucker for a girl with thick toned thighs.' He could clearly see hers thanks to her indecently short, weird kimono garment that he now knew to be a skirt.

'I especially love the way it hugs her hips and flares out loosely from there, barely covering her luscious backside.' He frowned. 'Not so much for everyday wear… But, it's perfect attire for spicing things up in the bedroom.' Shaking his head and smirking at his thoughts, he turned back into the leader persona everyone expected from him.

Bankotsu sighed heavily. "Being the leader can be a burden at times." He smirked as he noticed Kagome bending over, which unknowingly flashed him an enticing glimpse of her barely covered firm backside. "And sometimes it has its rewards as well."

Oblivious to the view she was presenting the shameless mercenary behind her; Kagome lifted her back pack and straightened up. She slipped her arms through the straps and shifted it onto her back with a grunt.

Renkotsu was the last to wake up and sat watching everyone else.

Sesshomaru had already woken up his ward and Kohaku. He'd ordered them to fetch their breakfasts and eat so they could leave.

Jaken had stood vigilantly watching over his two charges as they went about catching and cooking, then eating their breakfasts.

After everyone had eaten and packed their belongings the three groups set off down the road once more.

Inuyasha sighed as he walked slightly behind Miroku and Sango. He did love Kagome but knew things would never work between them. 'Especially now that she has grown feelings for him,' he thought slightly resentful. Even he was able to tell Kagome held affection towards the corpse.

Inuyasha sighed heavily. 'It never would have worked between us. She needs someone who can love her with all his heart and my heart will always remain with Kikyo." His thoughts turned to Kikyo and what she had revealed last night.

Jakotsu watched Inuyasha's posture change a couple times as they walked along. 'What has my Inu koi so upset?'

Tara walked in silence beside Jakotsu still deep in thought about her nightmare the previous evening.

On her other side Renkotsu was scowling and quietly scheming.

Miroku groped Sango and got slapped hard.

The demon slayer yelled furiously; "Hentai!" and stomped off to the other side of Inuyasha.

Kohaku winced at the sound of the slap and his sister's scream.

Rin's eyes widened as she continued riding on Ah-un with Kohaku behind her.

Sesshomaru shook his head and continued on. 'Foolish humans. Don't they know there is a child here?'

Jaken grumbled aloud, "Foolish mortals, don't they know any better?"

Tara had now grown accustomed to it, so she shook her head and continued onward.

Bankotsu winced at the sound of the slap connecting. "Oh, now that one had to hurt." His danced with amusement.

Kagome sighed and mumbled under her breath, "Miroku, when will you ever learn?"

Bankotsu chuckled as they continued down the path. "If they are promised to each other, then why does she get so upset?"

Kagome blew a breath towards her bangs and lightly admonished, "Bankotsu, just because they are promised, doesn't mean she wants him groping her in front of everybody."

Bankotsu frowned. "Why not?"

Kagome glared. "For one it's very embarrassing."

Bankotsu chuckled. "You're such an innocent, Kagome."

She glared at the man beside her. "What is that supposed to mean?"

His handsome face split into a grin. "Never mind, Kagome," He shook his head slightly bemused.

Kagome huffed and clamped her mouth shut silently pouting.

After a minute had passed, Bankotsu glanced at her. 'She looks cute when she is pouting.' A slight blush crossed his cheeks. Bankotsu cleared his throat and focused his attention back on the path up ahead.

A couple of hours before sunset Bankotsu signaled for the entourage to stop. He spun on his heel facing them. "We are stopping here for the night." He faced them and started handing out orders. "Jakotsu and Tara you two hunt. Make sure you bring enough for everyone to get full bellies."

He faced the monk. "Miroku and Sango collect the water. I want an extra jug of water for rinsing whatever those two bring back."

Bankotsu turned the hanyou. "Inuyasha go explore the area around here and ensure there are no hidden dangers."

He turned to his second in command. "Renkotsu gather enough wood for two fires and start them. Remember we want small fires, not the whole area on fire."

Once the orders were given, Bankotsu turned to Kagome, having her move into the bushes to change into her shorts and tee shirt once more before he grabbed her hand. Bankotsu lead her away to a spot he had spied earlier that would be perfect for another training session.

Sesshomaru faced Kohaku and Rin. "Kohaku you are to watch over Rin as she gathers her flowers." At the boy's nod, he turned to his imp. "Jaken you are to follow me. We have business to attend."

After completing twenty-five each of push-ups and sit-up, much to the amusement of Kagome, who didn't struggle as much with them this time, Bankotsu tossed her a training katana. Sango had bought the katanas yesterday when getting supplies after figuring Bankotsu would eventually start training Kagome with them.

Bankotsu and Kagome spent the next couple hours going over the proper way to grip and maintain a firm hold on it. They went over a few basic maneuvers including, parrying, blocking, striking, and some evasive maneuvers. Bankotsu spent the last two hours before dark teaching Kagome some real basic hand to hand combat skills, hoping to be able to build on them later.

When she was panting really harshly and his own breath had begun to hitch, he smirked. Quickly he swept her feet out from under her, knocking her onto her back and slid his body on top of hers.

Eyes wide and panting harshly, Kagome stared at him as he slowly moved her arms so they were pinned above her head. Slowly he leaned down and his mouth seized hers. His tongue danced over hers.

She moaned and began kissing him back fiercely.

Kagome's senses were being overwhelmed by the feel of Bankotsu's body on top of her own and she felt heady from his addicting kiss.

After another minute he broke the kiss with both of them gasping for air and leaned his forehead against hers. Bankotsu smiled down at the woman pinned underneath him and released his grip on her wrists.

Once he released her hands, Bankotsu laced one hand behind her head, while the other was placed upon her warm cheek. He tilted her head slightly and began planting soft kisses along her neck and jaw line.

Kagome rolled her head back as he trailed those tender kisses around her throat, making her forget everything but what he was doing to her.

After a moment he pulled back sitting so that he straddled her hips and smiled down at the sight before him.

Slowly Kagome's mind began to clear and she realized he had stopped. She slowly sat up and looked at him.

Bankotsu watched her intently.

Slightly dazed by the intoxicating kiss, Kagome whispered, "You know, those kisses of yours could become an addiction."

His handsome face spread into a heartwarming grin. "I hope so," He captured her lips again in a drugging kiss.

Kagome moaned at the unexpected pleasure beginning to course through her as they began a battle of the tongues for dominance.

Before Bankotsu could completely lose control, he pulled back and cleared his throat. "That's enough training for today."

Kagome nodded.

With a satisfied look upon Bankotsu's face, he and Kagome gathered the katanas and walked back to the group, who were already being served their portion of stew that Tara and Sango had made.

Sitting down side by side, Kagome and Bankotsu quickly ate their food before getting ready to set off to the springs and well deserved bath.

After warning Inuyasha and the monk to stay away, which sent glares toward him from a certain hanyou, Bankotsu waited for Kagome to grab her bathing things she was so fond of, before he led her over to the springs.

XOXOXOXOXOXO

At the hot springs Bankotsu fully stripped.

Kagome went behind a tree wrapping a towel around her. 'Note to self: I need to rinse my underclothes.' Blushing she walked around the trees.

Bankotsu was safely submerged to the waist in the water. He noted the towel. Deciding to be nice for once, he raised a brow but didn't comment on it.

He knew she was shy and would need time to adjust to their bathing situation though secretly he was yearning for the time when she would be comfortable enough to bathe nude with him. A slight smile came to his lips as he thought naughtily, 'Things could really get fun then.'

Sighing mentally at his train of thought, he noticed Kagome struggling to wash her hair and slipped up behind her, stopping just before his body would have touched hers.

Startled at the heat enveloping her, Kagome jumped slightly at the feel of his hands gliding into her hair.

He chuckled. His breath fanned her neck. "What's wrong Kagome?"

"N… nothing," She nervously swallowed a few times and her face was red as a tomato.

Bankotsu chuckled, as he saw the red of her embarrassment race around her neck. Leaning in a bit to her ear, he assured her, in a hushed tone, "Relax little Miko, I won't try anything," He smirked to himself. 'Not tonight, anyways.'

Kagome forced her stiff body to relax. She bit her lower lip to keep in a moan as his strong fingers slipped through her silky hair, helping to wash the messy black tresses.

When his hands stilled in her hair, Kagome clutched her towel protectively around her body. "Thank you." Without waiting for his response, she quickly ducked under the water to rinse her hair. Once she was sure that the shampoo was fully rinsed from her hair, Kagome resurface, gasping in a deep breath of air.

Bankotsu smirked as he reached over squeezing some of the thick liquid into his palm and quickly lathered his own hair.

Kagome helped him with the rinsing and they sat back enjoying the warm water a while longer.

Leaning against some of the larger rocks in the springs, Kagome got lost in her own thoughts. 'Why don't I just push Bankotsu away when he tries to kiss or hold me? Do I like him or something?' She sighed in frustration and sunk a little deeper into the soothing water. Her gaze darted catching a glimpse of Bankotsu, who appeared deep in thought as well.

'Damn that rotten backstabbing Naraku! I'll teach him exactly why people never even consider double crossing the Band Of Seven!' he ran a hand through his hair in frustration at having not heard of the fiend's whereabouts for almost a week now. Casually he glanced at Kagome and her towel. 'Why is she wearing that instead of her usual under things?'

Stealing a glance at Bankotsu, Kagome quietly sneaked her undergarments off, turning her back to him. She began to clean the garments with some of her body wash. "Soap would do so much better… Oh well, at least they will be clean for once," she turned her mind to the task of scrubbing her school uniform.

After cleaning and rinsing the garments, she spread them out on top of the nearby rocks and bank of the springs. 'I'll need to sleep closer to the fire tonight so they can dry quicker.'

Bankotsu spied the miko and smiled. 'She so fails at being sneaky. Oh well, it's a good idea.' He grabbed his own clothes and scrubbed them clean and then hung them over some branches to dry.

After an hour Bankotsu mentioned they should get out and go to bed since tomorrow was gonna be another long, grueling day.

Still clutching the now soaked towel tightly to secure her modesty, Kagome gathered her pajamas and ducked behind a tree for privacy as she slipped them on hurriedly.

Bankotsu chuckled and he shook his head slightly amused at her antics. Shaking out the wrinkles, he pulled on his own clothes that he had scrubbed earlier.

Once they gathered their belongings, they slipped back into camp and bed down by the fire. Most of the others had already bathed and gone to sleep.

They quickly spread out the sleeping bag and blanket, placing her wet clothes and his equally wet haori to dry on another blanket that had been folded in quarters.

They settled into to sleep with her laying on her side and Bankotsu settled onto his back with an arm propped lazily behind his head, keeping Banryu within reach.

Later during the night Kagome mumbled and turned into Bankotsu's warm side and he slipped his hand from behind his head to wrap comfortably around her, sighing contently as she slumbered deeply.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

The next morning Kagome lazily opened her eyes. She blinked a few times before noticing her arm wrapped around Bankotsu's waist. Blushing cutely she moved away from his strong chest and sat up while stretching.

She stole a minute for herself admiring the smooth features and peaceful looking face of the man beside her. 'He almost looks as innocent as a child when he's asleep.' She shook her head amused. 'To bad I know better than that," she laughed inside her head.

Checking to see her uniform and under things were indeed dry, she sighed in relief and leaned over to his ear. She whispered, "Bankotsu," and lightly shook his shoulder.

He mumbled sleepily and rolled onto his side.

She sighed. 'At least I know he can't kill me for this.' She reached out and poked the sleeping mercenary in the ribs lightly. She whispered, "Bankotsu, time to get up."

He jumped slightly and his eyes flew open, narrowing for a minute at the person who had dared interrupt his rest. Noticing Kagome's deer caught in the headlights look he grumbled, "What is it?"

Kagome nervously shifted. "I'd like to get dressed before Miroku or the others wake up."

Bankotsu's handsome face turned into a deep scowl at the thought of the lecherous monk spying on her as she dressed. 'Note to self: clobber that damned monk.' He sat up nodding. Once he grabbed Banryu, he led Kagome over to a bush covered area so she could change.

Grateful of his thoughtfulness, Kagome changed quickly. She cheerily said, "Thanks," as she walked out from behind the bushes.

Not quite fully awake yet, he yawned as he waved off her thanks.

They walked over towards the river and knelt splashing the cold refreshing water on their faces.

After Bankotsu had fully woken up, he mumbled, "May as well wake the others so we can eat and get going."

Kagome nodded and followed him back to the camp.

Upon entering the camp, Inuyasha woke up and eyed carefully the two teenagers. 'What have they been up to?'

Bankotsu and Kagome woke up the monk and slayer, then Renkotsu and Tara, leaving Jakotsu for last.

Surprisingly for once Jakotsu woke up without much fuss.

Sesshomaru had already charged Jaken with waking Rin and Kohaku and ordered them to take care of their needs, while Jaken tended Ah-un before they left.

Kagome gratefully accepted her portion of the nuts and berries with a fish and eagerly ate her food. After eating, she started packing her things.

When he was finished eating, Bankotsu oversaw the dismantling of the camp.

Kagome finished packing her bag and sat down to wait. She watched Bankotsu.

He casually leaned against a tree, with his arms crossed in front of his massive chest. His head was bowed as if he's deep in thought and he had a foot propped up behind him against the tree. Banryu was carefully propped against the tree beside him. 'Where the hell has Naraku hidden himself to this time? Why hasn't he tried making a move yet? It's odd that Naraku hasn't tried anything lately...'

Kagome sighed and butterflies brushed against the inside of her tummy. 'Inuyasha never looked that relaxed before.' Kagome frowned. 'Why do I keep comparing Inuyasha and Bankotsu's actions lately? It's like everything they do lately, I compare to how the other acts.'

After everyone had packed their things, Bankotsu pushed off of the tree and shouldered his halberd. "We leave in two minutes." As soon as Kagome was by his side, he entwined their fingers and led the way.

While they were walking Bankotsu thought about their current training regiment and decided to make some changes. 'First we need to kick up the stamina training. Secondly she needs more weapon training. A girl's best defense is good self defense training.'

Kagome felt the slight pressure of his warm fingers entwined with her own. 'He has such a firm grip.' She blushed as she stole a peek at him as he walked beside her. He looked deep in thought about something with his lips slightly pursed.

'You know, he's actually kind of cute with his lips pursed like that.' Kagome quickly ducked her head to hide her blush?' Her blush deepened as her eyes widened. 'Did I just actually think that... that Bankotsu was cute?'

Bankotsu frowned. 'We should start training to get used to working together in sync, especially since I sure as hell am not staying out of the battles.' He continued walking beside Kagome. His thoughts changed to the young miko. "She sure is an interesting girl... I like that she has a backbone. Thank Kami she isn't as weak as I originally thought her to be. I'll start our new training tomorrow, but for today I will test her archery skills." Having convinced himself of what was best; he nodded and glanced at her. 'Wow, when the sun shines off her hair like that, it makes her hair look like an inky lake shimmering in moonlight.' He blinked and shook his head as if to clear it and then focused his attention back on the path.

A couple hours before sunset Bankotsu signaled for everyone to stop. He faced his groups. "Change of plans everyone, Kagome and I are going to hunt tonight. Miroku, Sango, you two collect the wood. Jakotsu, Tara you two get the water tonight. Renkotsu you start the fire."

Taking the shocked Kagome's hand he led her into the wooded area. Spotting a boar, Bankotsu commanded quietly, "Aim for the boar and try to bring it down with one shot."

Kagome's eyes widened. She pulled out her bow and notched an arrow. Breathing nervously she tried to focus her aim. 'I really don't want to have to kill this thing,' She took a deep breath and drew back the arrow to her cheek. She released the arrow, which completely missed the boar.

The animal just merely flicked its tail at an annoying fly.

Bankotsu encouraged softly, "Try again."

Kagome notched another arrow took aim and let it fly smacking into a tree.

Bankotsu frowned. "Again," his voice was commanding.

She let another arrow fly and missed again, this time landing close enough to scare off the boar.

The wild pig grunted its disapproval of being driven off a prime piece of food.

Bankotsu spun her around to face him. His jaw clenched. "I see that I have my work cut out for me in training you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" demanded Kagome.

"It means that your aim needs a lot of work," Bankotsu grunted as if unamused by his own joke. He grabbed her bow and arrows.

"Watch," He took aim at a rabbit a little further away then the boar had been. He let the arrow fly and it stuck right through the rabbit's chest.

He turned around facing a wide eyed Kagome and placed the bow back into her trembling hands. "I was testing your archery skills."

She blinked a few times and her jaw opened slightly. 'He was testing me?'

He ordered softly, "Now raise your bow and aim for the rabbit on the other side."

She raised her bow and notched another arrow.

He moved to stand behind her, pulling her hips into his as he wrapped one arm around her waist. 'Damn, it feels good to hold her like this.' Shaking his head to clear it, he molded their bodies together.

She stiffened at the contact and the arrow shot on accident, crashing before flying very far.

He moved his lips near her ear and brushed some hair out of the way so that she could hear. He whispered soothingly, "Relax, Kagome."

Blushing at the contact she forced herself to relax in his arms and lowered her head hoping to hide her blush from the slight embarrassment.

He reached around her and helped adjust her bow notching another arrow. "Look up and aim for the rabbit."

She looked up swallowing nervously at the almost intimate position they were in and slightly flushed. Kagome shook her head slightly, focusing her attention on the rabbit and her aim.

His lips moved closer, but still didn't touch her ear. "Now, release the arrow."

She let it fly and it struck the rabbit in the chest as it was standing up.

He affectionately kissed her cheek. "Good job."

She instantly flushed a brighter red.

He chuckled out loud.

Taking her hand he led her over to the rabbits and picked them up. "Come on, let's go back."

He led her back to camp and after removing the arrows, and skinned the rabbits.

Kagome looked away trying not to get sick.

Once Bankotsu finished cleaning the carcasses, he tossed the dead rabbits into the pot of boiling water that hung over the fire. He and Kagome walked over to the creek to wash his hands and clean the knife. After he washed them he dried the knife and returned it to its sheath.

Kagome led him over to her bag. We can add the ramen later."

He nodded.

They sat far enough away they weren't touching, but close enough to remain in the boundary mark and waited for the food to cook.

During the last few minutes Kagome told Bankotsu it was time to add the noodles so they walked over adding the noodles and waited for them to cook.

While the meat cooked Kagome remembered the way her body had molded to his. 'Why... why am I remembering how good it felt for him to hold me? And why am I blushing?' She snuck a look at him and turned beet red as she realized that he was staring intently at her. 'Oh Kami, he's watching me. How embarrassing.' She quickly stared at the ground and fiddled with her hands in her lap.

Bankotsu smirked. 'So she's remembering the way I held her earlier, and blushing about it? Interesting...'

After the noodles cooked she stood up and doled out the stew to everyone.

Bankotsu and Kagome took their bowls and sat down beside each other eating.

Afterwards the others took turns bathing and everyone settled in for the night.

Once he was sure enough time had passed for everyone to be asleep, Renkotsu popped open one eye and quietly sneaked off into the surrounding forest.

Elsewhere Kikyo was out patrolling the lands and her soul collectors flew about the skies.

One flew down to her.

"I see. Follow but do not allow yourself to be spotted. Once you've found out what is going on, you are to return to me."

It flew off to fulfill its mistress's orders.

About three hours before sunlight Renkotsu smirked deviously and quietly snuck back into his blanket. He closed his eyes and pretended to sleep.
