5: The Birthing Rains

The rains did not let up and we became restless, my clothes were retuned the next morning and we were fed, but none of us were allowed out.

"I'm bored," I sighed as I lay on my stomach, my tail twitching and occasionally hitting Inu Yasha.

"Could you stop that?" he growled as he tapped his claws against the wall and I rolled my eyes. I began to scratch behind my ear.

"You know…since you two arrived I believe I've caught fleas. What kind of royals were you?" I asked as I saw something jump from my hair and suddenly both Sesshoumaru and Inu Yasha were right next to each other holding something. I came up and looked into Inu Yasha's hand. It was a flea.

"Myoga!" Inu Yasha hissed so only we in the stall could hear. I leaned over and looked at the flea youkai.

"So…this is your great hope for freedom? I think you two need SERIOUS help," I whispered and then I caught the scent of water. "Crap!"

"Ayame calm down!" Momma's voice reached all our ears as the young bitch began to howl. "You'll throw us all into labor if you're not careful…we…we would need a bitch…to help….if….that…happens."

"Oh crap!" I hissed, my tail between my legs. "Ayame calm yourself down!"

"Too late!" Momma cried and the scent of water was overpowering.

"OH CRAP!" I hissed.

"What, may I ask, is happening?" a voice asked and I looked at my nose to see the flea. I shoved him away and let out a howl. Soon all the wolves were howling.

"Meiken!" Inu Yasha growled. I glared at him.

"What is happening is that Ayame's water broke, the scent causes all bitches to respond hormonally to it," I growled and he looked lost. Sesshoumaru however did not, his eyes got wide and he pulled Inu Yasha back.

"What's that mean?!" Inu Yasha cried and I glared at him before looking at Sesshoumaru.

"It means that the other bitches who are pregnant are going to give birth too, but any bitch between cycles will go into heat!" Sesshoumaru hissed and I looked at him before Inu Yasha's eyes got wide.

"I take it, he's never been near a bitch in heat," I stated as I howled again, the racket should have caught Kikyo's attention.

"No, but the time he reached age, most of our females had been slain or captured," Sesshoumaru sighed and I growled.

"Oh, perfect," I hissed. He glared at me with his golden eyes.

"Have you given birth or even mated?" he asked and I shook my head.

"Nope," I snarled and the wolf-bitches began to howl louder. The sound and smell vibrating through my entire body and I growled as I fought the instinct to go help.

"What's gonna happen?!" Inu Yasha cried and then the doors to the barn opened.

"Of course, on the first day of the yearly rains!" Kikyo cried as she entered, obviously not happy. "Get Meinu out of her pen, she will help with the delivery of the pups." I watched as Naraku approached and opened our stall, I quickly exited and headed to the stall with the bitches, I couldn't resist the instinct to help. All four were on the floor in each corner panting. I quickly moved to Ayame, I was startled when Kikyo closed the pen.

"You will have to take care of them yourself, Meinu, I have a human birth to attend. Naraku, get her some hot water and clean blankets," Kikyo ordered as she left and I felt the urge to growl.

"Meiken!" Ayame cried and I turned my attention to her. Koga was the father of all these pups. He was the alpha male and had managed to impregnate all four bitches this past heat cycle. I lifted her kimono up around her waist and was hit by the smell of water, blood, and birth. I quickly placed my hand at the apex of her belly.

"Ayame, breath and push," I said and demonstrated what I had witnessed many times before. The was the first time I was in charge though, I had always just been help before. "Keep going!" I watched as the head began to show and I pushed down, giving the extra energy for the baby to emerge. I felt her stomach and looked at her before cutting the cord and removing the afterbirth.

"That is it!" she cried and looked at the puppy I was washing off.

"Koga, you are the proud father of a baby girl," I called, it was his first born.

"That was it! One pup! One measly girl pup!" Ayame sounded pissed. I handed her the squirming pup as she began to whine.

"Feed her," I stated as I moved over to Momma and began the process again. Momma had a good litter, two boys and three girls. The next litter held three boys and a girl. And the last litter held two boys. The scent of birth was almost too much I could feel my body preparing for a long heat. I was nearing my natural heat anyway, but this…this was very bad. I would be in heat for a week normally but this…this was gonna be long and not fun.

"Congratulations Koga, father of seven males and five females," I called and we all began to howl.

"Will you all be quiet!" Kikyo yelled as she entered, her clothes stained with blood. "How did your birthing go?" I bowed my head.

"All twelve pups are alive and healthy, my Lady," I said as I kept my eyes locked on the ground. I could smell death on Kikyo, she had lost the mother but saved the child.

"I see, good job, Meinu. Naraku get a leash," she said and I watched as she looked at me in a way I didn't like. Naraku approached with a chain and Kikyo took it as she opened the door, attaching the chain to my collar. "Come, Meinu." She walked me over to the door of Sesshoumaru and Inu Yasha's pen. "Is she in heat yet?"

"No, my Lady, but she will be soon," Sesshoumaru said and I felt part of me start to panic.

"Excellent, the rain should be gone tomorrow, I'll let you run," Kikyo said to me and I nearly threw up.

"My Lady, I….it….I've…." I tried to explain I hadn't been run since my first heat. "Lady Kagome sealed my heat." I suddenly wished I hadn't said that.

"I see, no worries then," Kikyo reached into my collar and before I could react she pulled a sutra from the inside, in Kagome's soft script, and I watched it turn into a flame and burn. I shuddered, that sutra had held back the intensity of my heat and my reactions to being IN heat since I was young. I had never been without it. "I'll let you run once the rain stops, you may not go beyond the boundary of the wolves, but you can run as long as you want. You may fight off the males you don't want, but don't kill them." I nodded as I stood there, in shock.

"Good girl, Meinu, now get a good night's rest, the rains are suppose to stop tomorrow," Kikyo said and I felt my eye twitch as she chained me to the far wall above the haystack. Kikyo left and I fell to my butt on the hay.

"You know, now that the sutra is off, you smell a bit stronger," Inu Yasha commented and I found myself unable to respond.

"Well Mutt-face, we can have fun if Meiken is in heat, when she was in her first heat she out ran all of us for twelve hours. I'd like to see what she can do now that we're all full grown and she's reacting normally to her heat," Koga chuckled and I growled.

"Shut up, Koga! I can outrun you and all the others, I may BE a bitch but I won't be YOUR bitch!" I snarled and there were several chuckles. Most of them coming from the bitch stall. "It's not funny."

"No, Child, it is," Momma chuckled as she nursed two pups at a time. "All females say something like that, but the heat will drive you acceptance. Whether you want to or not, you will choose a male after they run you." I sighed as I curled up, the weight of the chain worrying me.

"Whatever you say, Momma," I sighed again as I stared at the door, I would need to sleep.
