6: The Running

I snapped to my feet when I heard the door to the barn open and I could see several hungry eyes staring at me from all but one stall. None of the bitches were awake.

"Good morning," Kikyo said with a smile as she approached me, several servants followed her. "Meinu, you will eat outside and then begin your run as soon as the males are released." I nodded as she took my chain off and led me out of the barn. There was a large slab of meat and I began to eat quickly, filling up while I could, who knew how long I would have to run. I finished quickly and looked at Kikyo.

"Good girl, now off with you, Naraku, you may…" I didn't hear the rest I was running to the furthest northern boundary before heading west.

I moved through the underbrush, my ears perked to the slightest sound, the heat would really begin to affect me near dark, of course I had only noticed it mildly before due to the sutra in my collar, now I'd be a full blown youkai-bitch in heat. I ducked down as I heard several growls.

"Move out!" Koga called. "Those damn dogs are after her!" I blinked, I had thought Sesshoumaru and Inu Yasha would have been able to control themselves longer. I moved silently through a grove of tall, powerful smelling flowers and listened to the growls of the wolves.

"I smell her!" someone roared and I pricked my ears, could they see me? I couldn't bolt yet, I continued to move away.

"There!" another called and then I bolted. I jumped into the trees and used my youkai speed. I could out run all the others wolves…but Koga.

"Get back here, bitch!" Koga snarled and I continued, I couldn't look at him or I'd risk slipping.

"Not on your life!" I snarled back before dropping down and moving even faster. I suddenly caught the scent of Inu Yasha and I growled before rushing at the main direction.

"Oh no you don't!" Koga cried and I dove to the ground in time for Inu Yasha to soar over me and hit Koga. I was to my feet and heading back to the estate.

I was in the God Tree after rolling in enough mud to cover my entire body. So far I had not seen nor caught the scent of any of the males. I looked up, the noon-day sun told me that the hunt would be on for quite some time.

"Lady Meiken, may I advise you in this situation?" a voice asked and I jumped, hitting a branch before landing on the crook I had been on. I hugged it before looking around.

"Who's there?!" I hissed as I looked around and then something landed on my nose. I crossed my eyes to look at the flea youkai on my nose. "Oh…you're…um…Myoga…right?"

"Yes, a pleasure, my Lady," he said as he bowed.

"Um, I'm not a Lady, and you don't have to bow," I said as I sweatdropped. Then I noticed he wasn't bowing, I flicked him off my nose and itched the bite. "Bite me again and I will set you on fire."

"Yes, my…Meiken," he did bow this time.

"Why are you here?" I asked through half-lidded eyes. He looked up at me.

"To advise you and help you avoid being captured, of course," he said and I looked at him.

"Or help lead me to one of your heat-mad masters," I said as I prepared to flick him away.

"No, no, Master Sesshoumaru told me to attach myself to you last night while you slept and then help you avoid capture during your running," Myoga said as he waved his hands at me.

"And where have you been all morning then?" I asked as I glared at him, all this talk would lure males here.

"Well, I kind of had a big dinner last night and slept heavily this morning," I narrowed my eyes at him.

"I heard something over here!" a voice called and I growled before grabbing Myoga.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed," I growled as I jumped off towards the river, I would have to hide there.

I was under the branches of a tree sitting in the cold water with Myoga sitting on my shoulder. It had only been an hour since he joined me. Nightfall wouldn't be for another four hours. I sighed.

"Lady Meiken, my I suggest that you keep moving?" he asked and I looked at him.

"I'm not in the cold water to avoid the males," I stated as I looked at him.

"Oh, I see, mental concentration, overpowering the heat through meditation. I believe Lord Sesshoumaru's mother did that," Myoga stated and I looked at him, realizing I had a great resource at my disposal.

"Still she had Sesshoumaru," I pointed out and Myoga chuckled.

"No, Sesshoumaru was born twenty years after his father's marriage to his mother, he was their only pup," Myoga explained and I blinked.

"Really?" I was shocked. I felt my kitsune curiosity perk up and I looked around. "Myoga…what…what was their life like?" The flea looked up at me and chuckled.

"So you wish to know about the life in the youkai court of Lord Sesshoumaru and Lord Inu Yasha?" he asked and I nodded. "As you wish…do you smell any of the males?" I lifted my head, there was no scent of male or sound of feet.

"All clear," I said, trying to get comfortable while freezing myself in the cold river water.

"Then I will begin…" Myoga began to tell me the story.
