Chapter 8: A Vision into the Future's Past
Part Three

Sesshomaru and Kai had been traveling for almost a week and not spoken one word. Kai wanted to start a conversation but she had no idea what to say. She hadn't been around a full blooded demon since Koga had been killed. "You are half wolf demon, are you not?" Kai was somewhat startled by his voice breaking the silence. "Yes my lord." she answered. Kai watched his movement carefully. Rin had told her many stories about Sesshomaru and she knew he was practically royalty in the demon world. she tried to hold her head up high and proud as he did. Sesshomaru had noticed her behavior but said nothing as it reminded him of Rin when she was Kai's age. "Why do you seek Inuyasha" Kai stopped. For a moment she considered lying. This was afterall Inuyasha's brother. But she remembered Kohaku saying they didn't get along. "He is the reason my mother hated me my whole life. She with his name on her lips. Not mine. It's his fault. Everything that has ever happened in my life is his fault...and I'm going to kill him for it."
Sesshomaru stopped walking. He turned slowly and looked at Kai. In a swift movement he knocked Kai to the ground and unsheathed the tensaiga stopping the blade inches from her face. Kai's heart was racing. She couldn't help but think maybe the truth wasn't a good idea. "I can kill you in an instant. Your a child. A half breed child. You can not defeat Inuyasha in battle" Sesshomaru resheathed his sword. Kai stood up and looked the ground. He was right. She realized that now. What was she to do now? She had no place in either the demon or human world.
Sesshomaru turned and continued walking. "Wait Lord Seshomaru, where are you going?" "I'm leading you to Inuyasha, now keep up. I wont wait for you" Kai followed though still not sure of what she would do when she saw him. After another week they arrived at a village. Sesshomaru stayed by the tree line. "He lives in this village. The rest is up to you" He then turned and headed back into the trees. Kai looked around the village. It reminded her of her old home. Small hut some starting to become run down. She passed a gravesite on the way. She read a few names. Sango and Miroku. She had heard those names mentioned by her mother one time and wondered if they were the same people. There was one name that assured her she was in the right place. Kikyo. Koga had told her all about Kikyo.
She continued on until she heard the sound of children laughing. She followed the sounds to a hut just outside the main village. She stood by the hut watching the children play. She noticed one of the children had white hair and dog ears. He was part demon. Not half like she was. But still the other two children played with him. The wind began to pick up and the air was becoming damp. Living in the woods she had learned this meant a storm was coming. Suddenly a voice called from the hut and a figure dressed all in red came outside. Kai stayed out of sight but continued to watch. "It's time to come inside." Kai felt a sense of deja vu. That voice was so familer. But she couldn't place it. The other children to the hut. "Uncle Inuyasha, can we go fishing today?" "Not today Siroku. It's about to storm. But we will go tomorrow." Every word he spoke was like ice in Kai's blood. Everything in her wanted to kill him right where he stood. But she remembered Sesshomaru's "warning".
She started to quietly back away but she was so focused on Inuyasha she didn't the branches behind her. They snapped under her feet in her opinion as loud as the thunder. Inuyasha hurried the kids inside and rushed to the side of the house. Kai stood stiff starting daggers at Inuyasha. He on the other hand had relaxed. He recognized the girl before him. He'd know her sceant anywhere. He couldn't believe she was alive. He could feel tears starting to form but he did nothing to hide them. "Kai is that you?" Her eyes widened. But she quickly recovered her composure. Rain had begun to fall. "I'm glad you know my name." "I do. I could never forget you." Kai's anger was quickly rising. "Good. Because I want you to know who's killing you" Kai lunged foward to begin her attack.
