Chapter 7


As the Inu-tachi had instigated their plan, Ayame had been pushed back and onto the ground as Kagome erected a barrier around Inuyasha and Kya. Sango had run over to help her to her feet mumbling an apology for their actions. Ayame just shook her head and looked at Kouga as he began to curse the monk who had him pinned with the ofuda. Kagome ran to his side and tried to calm him down. When that did not work, she just got angry and began to rail at him.

"Kouga-kun how could you act like this. You don't even know what Ayame is here for. Did you even bother to ask? No, you just rip up at her trying to make her feel bad. Then you make the situation worse by not trying to calm down Ayame's friend when she came to protect her. I am very disappointed in you right now. I always thought you were better than this. I thought you knew how to act around ladies." With those words said Kagome just shook her head and looked sadly at the wolf prince.

Kouga had the good grace to blush. As Kagome had been speaking, he had the time to cool down a little and his brain had begun to function again. He knew that he should not have acted that way to Ayame and he could understand the actions of her friend. She had said that Ayame was her sister. That meant that the inu-hanyou had been accepted by Ayame's pack in essence making her a true sister. She was simply doing what any pack member would do. She was protecting. It was what he himself would do in the same situation.

"I'm sorry Kagome. My mind was on other matters and being attacked so unexpectedly clouded my judgment. Now tell that monk to get over here and take this ofuda off of me." This Kouga said calmly.

"First you have to promise to hear what Ayame has to say. Then you should apologize to her and her friend."

"Ah Kagome. I will not apologize for something that was instinct. I will try to hear Ayame out though if it will make my woman happy."

"Kouga for the last time I am not your woman." Kagome blushed as she said this but still called out to the monk.

As Miroku made his way over to remove the ofuda; Ayame and Sango turned to see how Kya and Inuyasha were faring. Sango let out a gasp that got the attention of the others, including a now free Kouga. They all moved close to Kagome's barrier and watched as Inuyasha rubbed the ears of the other hanyou causing her to purr. Then they all looked on slack jawed as he began to laugh. Finally, they could see the young woman look over at them as she said something to shut Inuyasha up. As his eyes met theirs, he released the woman and demanded to be let out of the barrier. Only Shippou noticed the light blush staining his cheeks.

So here they were. They had moved to a nearby open hilltop to sit and eat lunch as they talked. Ayame had introduced Kya to the rest of the group. She had related to them how Kya had saved the pups and become part of the pack. She had then explained how Elder had sent them to find Kouga and help in anyway possible to find Naraku. Everyone was silent until the end of her explanation. At which time Kouga stood and looked at Ayame funny.

"I do not need your help. Just go back to the mountains and your pack where it will be safe for you." Having said that he grabbed Kagome pulling her to her feet to kiss her cheek. "Make sure dog turd takes good care of you woman. I'll be back with Naraku's promised head."

In a flash Kouga was gone. They all stared in the direction that the dust from his tornado kicked up. Kagome sat down with a thoughtful look on her face. Inuyasha was sitting quietly looking at the group. Shippou was sitting in his lap to his left Kagome was sitting deep in thought next to Sango and Miroku. Kirara was dozing in the warm sunshine across from him and to the right sat Kya and Ayame. For a second Ayame looked troubled and then a huge grin split her face as she looked at her silent sister. Inuyasha had to smirk at what she said.

"You know Kya I did tell you this morning that you purr like a Neko." as soon as the words left Ayame's mouth she began to laugh.

"Stupid bitch I am not a Neko. How many times do I have to tell you that." said Kya as she cut a glare to Ayame while Sango, Miroku and Shippou joined Ayame in her laughter.

"Well I guess that we better go now. Even if Kouga does not want our help, we will go on our own. We told the Elder that we would help and we will. So I guess that we will see you guys around." With that said Ayame looked at Kya and they both began to stand.

"Wait" began Kagome as she motioned them to sit back down. As they sat she looked at Kya for many moments. "I have seen you looking at me. You have questions I can tell and I think that I know what they are."

"And what would that be Miko" said Kya as her face took on a calm mask.

"You want to know if I am from the future."

As the words left her mouth Inuyasha and the rest of the Inu-tachi began to sputter. They could not believe that Kagome was giving up her closely guarded secret. She raised a quietening hand to shush them all.

"Inuyasha be quiet. I have a reason for telling her this secret. The reason will be revealed in just a second if you will calm down." said Kagome as she once again looked at Kya.

"Ok miko you have our attention. So explain." replied Kya as she looked back at Kagome.

"Since we stopped here I have seen you looking at me funny. I could tell that you were studying me. I thought that it was just to see how strong we all were and then I noticed it was just me that you were looking at. Then when I brought out the ramen for Inuyasha you looked as if you had figured something out. You never said a word about it though. So I am guessing that you know that I am from the future." Kagome paused for a moment as she looked hard at Kya before saying "And I think that you are from the future too."

Everyone gasped as they looked at Kya to see if this twist could possibly be true. There was no way the she could be from Kagome's time. Look at how she was dressed and acted. Not to mention that Kagome said she could not sense any youkai in her time. They all saw her mouth lift into a smile. The fang popped over her lip as she began to laugh. It sounded like the tinkling of bells to their ears. Ayame just looked at her as if she was crazy. Then when she looked at Kagome she looked scared.

"Kya don't say a word. What if this is a trick." said Ayame with a frown on her face.

"Ayame calm down." said Kya as her laughter died. She looked straight at Kagome as she said. "So how did you come by this assumption Miko."

"Well for one there is the way that you hold yourself like a modern woman. You move as if you are assured of yourself. This could be because you are a youkai too. So I had to look at you closer. When Ayame started to tell us about you when you would speak you sounded more modern. You used phrases that were not common here. Also as we ate you showed better manners. The thing that really gave you away though was your pendant. It is too finely crafted to come from this time. Besides on my last trip home I saw the same pendant in the mall."

"Ok Miko you got me." said Kya with a chuckle. Then her eyes got serious. "I am from the future. I also did know that you were too. How could you not be. You are wearing an old school uniform. Let's not forget all of the other modern conveniences you carry in your backpack."

"Please quit calling me Miko. My name is Kagome. I promise that we will not use this information to hurt you. So quit looking so upset Ayame."

"So Kagome what do you want to know."

"Well how did you come to be here. I have never seen anyone else from the future here. You’re the first."

"Well I am not really sure." said Kya as she rubbed the back of her neck. "I think it was an old well some miles from here. You see I was in Tokyo on a trip with a friend of mine. We are both from Colorado in the United States and this was the first time we had a chance to go anywhere together. I just met her last year. Kenna is a full-blooded Kitsune. She and I met on accident. I had just found out what I was you see...What. Why do you have that look on your face."

"You didn't know what you were. How could you not know I think that you better start at the beginning." said Kagome.


"Ok you asked for it. But you guys better get comfortable. This is a long story." With that said Kya leaned back took a deep breath and began to tell them the story of her life.


Ok Ok don't kill me. I know I said I was going to get the story rolling now. It's just that this chapter made itself. Now there is the whole quandary of where did Kya come from. So the next chapter is going to explain all of this. Just bear with me.
