Chapter 22




As Kagome placed her hands onto the lip of the bone-eaters well she felt excitement course through her body. Finally, she would be able to return home and see the young man from the mall again. Looking into the time slip that would care her 500 years into the future she thought about the course of the strange afternoon with the guy that introduced himself as Yusuke Yurimeshi.

After spitting out the fact that he was a youkai the young mans arms had tightened temporarily around her before he had said "Yusuke. My Name is Yurimeshi Yusuke."

Pushing back from his embrace Kagome looked up and into his eyes as she told him her own name. Moments passed as they continued to stare at one another. Finally breaking his gaze away from her Yusuke released his hold on her as he looked at his laughing companions. Glancing over her own shoulder Kagome could see Eri too was snickering at them.

"So would you and your friend like to have lunch with us." Yusuke asked as he ran his fingers through his hair.

"Ok. That would be nice."

"Yusuke. Kuwabara and I have something that we need to take care of. We will be unable to join you for lunch." the young man on the left said. Looking at him Kagome recieved a shock as she saw a human man where she felt a demon aura. How was that possible.

"Eh. Where do we need to go Kurama. I don't remember having to go anywhere." the man on the right said.

"Trust me Kuwabara. We need to leave." The man on the left said as he escorted the man on the right off.

With her mind still trying to understand the mystery of the human man with the demon aura Kagome turned to look at Eri. Eri was putting her cell phone back into her purse as she looked at Kagome.

"Sorry Kagome. I need to go now too. That was Hojo calling. He wanted to know if I would like to go out on a date tonight."

"Oh. Ok." Kagome said as she looked at her friend. She didn't know that Hojo had finally given up on her.

"So do you need a ride home Kagome-chan."

"No I'm fine. Go ahead and get home so that you can get ready."

"Ok well see you soon. Bye."

Turning back to Yusuke who had kept silent through everyone's defection Kagome said, "So I guess that it is just me and you. Do you still want to get something to eat."

"Sure but lets just find something to take to the park down the street. I would like a chance to speak with you away from everyone." Yusuke said.

So they had found something to eat and gone to the park. At first the conversation was somewhat stilted as they got to know one another but as time went by they became more at ease. Yusuke wanted to know how Kagome had known he was a youkai. She had expained that she was a shrine priestess and could feel it in his aura as well as that of his companion. He had told her that they were both indeed youkai and that she must have a strong spiritual sense to be able to recognize thier demon aura's. They talked long into the afternoon. With a start Kagome had realized how late it had gotten. Pointing this out Yusuke had asked to see her the next day. She had not told him about her trips to the past so she made a quick excuse of going to check on her sick uncle. They had decided to swap phone numbers so that when she got home they would be able to meet somewhere. Kagome had worn a smile all the way home.

In fact it was the same smile that graced her soft full lips now. With a slight bounce to the balls of her feet she nimbly jumped over the lip of the ancient well. Her mind consumed with Yusuke the swirling blue lights engulfed her form carrying her to the future. Guiding her home.

In the blink of the eye her feet glided down onto the hard packed earth of the well. Before her was the ladder that grandpa had put into the well for her use. Climbing quickly upwards Kagome exited the well and made her way out of the interior of the well house. As she stepped into the warm sunshine she lifted her hands in joy and twirled around. A joyous laugh found it's way to her lips as she considered her own antics. Finally, Kagome overcame her humor and made her way up to her home. Sliding open the glass door Kagome called out a greeting to those within.

"Mama, Souta, Grandpa. I'm Home."

"Ah Kagome your home." said Mama as she made her way from the kitchen to greet Kagome. "Will you be able to stay long?"

"No mama I promised that I would be back in three days. Has anyone called for me."

"As a matter of fact a young man has called twice asking for you. He said to call him as soon as you can."

"What was his name Mama."

"Yuremeshi Yusuke I believe he said."

"Oh thank you mama. I better go call him!" Kagome yelled as she ran up the steps to her room.

Kagome's room still looked the same as it had three years ago when she was fifteen. At eighteen the all pink decor wasn't quite as cute as it used to be. Shaking her head she crossed over to her desk to find the piece of paper containing Yusuke's phone number. Digging into the drawer she rifled through all of the papers that were jumbled together but she was unable to find it. Getting desperate she pulled the drawer all of the way out and dumped the papers onto the floor. She spread them out and one at a time began to go through everything. Thirty minutes later she wanted to cry with the frustration that was mounting in her system. She couldn't believe that she had misplaced Yusuke's phone number. Gathering all of the papers up she placed them back into the drawer and moved to slide the drawer back into it's hole in her desk. That's when she saw a small slip of paper pushed and crumpled in the back. Reaching in the removed the slip and raised it to see what it was. Her eyes lit with joy as she discovered that it was the missing phone number. Wouldn't you know it was in the least likely place.

Before she lost her nerve Kagome grabbed her cell phone and dialed the number. It rang twice before she heard the deep voice of Yuske answer.

"Hello"

"Hello is this Yusuke."

"Yeah it is who is this."

"Kagome do you remember me. We met at the mall."

"Of course I remember you. I have tried to call you twice to see if you were home yet."

"Yeah I just got home mama told me you called."

"So what are you doing tonight."

"Nothing that I know of why."

"Well I hate talking on phones and I wanted to know if you would like to see a movie with me."

"That would be nice. When should I expect you."

"Well where is your house."

So Kagome gave Yusuke directions and they decided that he would be by in an hour to escort her. As she shut her cell phone and placed it on her desk she suddenly realized that she only had an hour to get ready. With a small cry of alarm Kagome leapt from the floor and flew to the bathroom. Hurriedly locking the door she started the shower as she brushed her teeth. Once the water became warm she took a shower and hurriedly washed her hair and body. Once she felt completely clean she shut the shower off and grabbed her towel from the rack by the shower door. She dried herself off as fast as possible before grabbing her bathrobe and slipping it on to make her way back to her own room. She met her mother in the hallway.

"Kagome what has you in such a hurry." Mama questioned.

"You remember the boy that you said called twice. Well he asked me to a movie and he will be here very soon to meet me."

"Oh well you better let me help you dry your hair."

"Thank you mama."

Between the mother and daughter team they had Kagome's hair dried and styled in no time. Next they had to choose an outfit for her to wear out. Since Yusuke had not called it a date Kagome did not want to try to hard to look nice but she didn't want to look like she didn't care either. Mama finally helped her to decide on a shell pink sleeveless pink top with a scooped neck. They paired this with a slim black skirt that fell to just below mid thigh and a pair of black heels. Hearing a knock on the door downstairs Mama made her way from the room to play host while Kagome took one last look in the mirror to check her apperance. Giving herself the once over she decided that she looked good. With her waist length hair pulled up into two pearl combs she looked very feminine. Exiting the room and walking slowly down the stairs she took a deep breath as she entered the living area where Yusuke was talking with mama.

As she entered the room Yusuke glanced up from his position on the floor talking to mama and felt his breath leave his lungs. Mama was still talking but he heard none of her words as he continued to stare at the woman in the doorway. She was beautiful. Wanting to be closer he rose to his feet and then offered mama a hand up. With no thought to what he was saying he offered his thanks to her for her kindness as he made his way to Kagome's side. Looking into her eyes he wanted to say something smooth but what came out was far more simple.

"You look good. Ready to go."

"Yes. Bye mama be back later." Kagome said as they walked out of the house.

They maintained their silence until they were on the sidewalk in front of the shrine steps. Yusuke looked over at Kagome before he shook his head in chagrin. Kagome seeing him shake his head spoke up as they continued to walk.

"What's the matter Yusuke."

"I'm sorry Kagome. I wanted to come off smooth back in your house but that's not me. I'm to rough to make pretty compliments." He gave an angry glare as Kagome started to laugh. Seeing his look she quited down.

"Sorry Yusuke it's just I don't need pretty compliments. It is nice to know that you tried though. It makes me feel pretty."

"Heh."

They made the rest of the trip in companionable silence to the theater. They decided to see an action movie. Yusuke was surprised with her agreement to see this paticular genere of film. Most girls always wanted to watch the sappy stuff. Twenty minutes into the movie as the blood was flying Yusuke was really shocked to here Kagome yelling for the hero to beat the hell out of the villan. Once the shock wore off he started to laugh. Kagome turned in her seat and gave him an evil glare for interrupting the good part. This only made Yusuke laugh harder until Kagome punched him in the arm. Of course it didn't hurt but Yusuke decided to stop while he was ahead. Settling back into his seat he even began to add his own comments during the film. Too soon the movie ended the hero had saved the day and the girl. Taking Kagome's hand Yusuke led them out of the theater and back onto the busy Tokyo sidewalk.

"So would you like to go get something to eat before you go home."

"That would be nice. Do you think we could go to WacDonald's. I haven't go to go there in a while."

"Sure. That's one of my favorite places to go."

They made small talk as they walked to the resteraunt. All too soon they were there with their order. It took neither of them long before the food was gone and it was time to start home. Yusuke didn't want the afternoon to end. As they started back to Kagome's home he saw a small park across the street.

"Kagome would you like to walk in the park for a moment before you go home."

"Yes that would be nice. I'm having such a good time I don't want to go home yet."

"You know I have never met any girl like you before." Yusuke said as he and Kagome made their way into the park. "It's refreshing to be able to act like myself with you."

"Thanks Yusuke I'm glad that you feel that way." Kagome said as they made their way to a secluded bench. "You know this is nice for me too. I haven't gotten to feel this free in a long time. It's nice to just be with someone without worrying about how I should act first."

"So can I see you tomorrow. Would you like to go on a picnic with me." Yusuke said as they sat down. As he noticed he still held her hand in his own he began to rub small cirlcles on her skin with his thumb as he awaited her answer.

Kagome was thrilled. He wanted to see her again! She had let herself act naturally with him all afternoon and had been afraid that he wouldn't like the real her. Having changed so much on her journey into the past she knew that she didn't act like girls her own age. Looking at Yusuke she realized that Inuyasha was now firmly in the past where he belonged and it was time for her to move on. The man beside her drew her like Inuyasha had never done and he was actually intrested in her. Turning to face him Kagome decided to go for it she already really liked Yusuke and she felt a bond between them already. She wanted to know everything about him and return let him know all about her.

"I think that would be alot of fun Yusuke. I would like a chance to know you better. This is probably not the right time to say this but I feel drawn to you. Like I was fated to meet you."

"I feel the same." Yusuke said as he drew his free hand up to Kagome's face.

Touching her soft skin he slid his hand behind her head and into her silky hair as he drew her towards him. Her eyes slid shut as his lips met her own. Yusuke tenderly brushed his lips across hers trying not to startle her. Gently he settled his mouth over hers as he eased the tip of his tongue out to taste her as well as learn the shape of the two juicy lips. Her body shuddered as he continued to lick at her pursed lips. Unable to resist she eased the tip of her own tongue out to touch his. At the first brush she felt his body tense before her as his taste hit her tongue. It was hot and spicy feeling her with a tingling sensation she had never gotten before. She wanted more of the feeling so she slid her tongue questing over his. Sensing her want Yusuke pulled her closer to himself as he slid his tongue fully into her mouth. Her own mimiced his as the kiss deepened and spun out of control. Passion flared white hot between them. Somewhere in that kiss Kagome slid her arms tightly around Yusukes shoulders as he drew her closer to himself locking her to himself. Finally, lack of air made them part. They were both breathing ragidly as they remembered where they were.

"Wow that was the first kiss I have ever gotten like that." Kagome stated as she drew away from Yusuke and touched her puffy lips.

"How do you mean." Yusuke as he watched her fingers glide over her lips swollen from his kiss.

"I have never you know with the tongues and uhmm yeah."

"So your saying this was your first adult kiss."

"Yes."

"Well then thank you for letting me be the one to show you. I hope you liked it."

"I did. Like it I mean." Kagome said as she began to blush and ducked her head. "So uhm can we do that again."

"My Pleasure." Yusuke said as he drew her back into his embrace and kissed her with all the skill he possessed.

Time slid away from them and evening shadows drew to full dark. Finally they pulled away from one another and hand in hand started back to her home. At the door Yusuke kissed her tenderly after receiving her promise to meet him the next day. As he left Kagome floated up the stairs to her room with a smile on her face. She fell onto her bed remembering every second spent with Yusuke. Mama stepped into her room and her face eased into a soft smile as she looked at her daughter. Kagome had been looking so unhappy for the past year. She knew that things had not worked out between Kagome and Inuyasha. It had broken her own heart to see her daughter trying to get over the love she held for the young man. So it made her happy to see her daughter moving on with this new young man. The only thing that disconcerted her was the feeling she had gotten when they were in the same room together. It was like they were meant for each other. Mama realized that she might truly be losing her daughter soon. But she would keep her thoughts to herself. Instead she made her presence known and told Kagome that she needed to get cleaned up as it was getting late. Still wearing a dopey grin on her face Kagome showered again and after putting on her pajamas she crawled into her bed and drifted off into a peaceul sleep dreaming of Yusuke.

The next two days Kagome and Yusuke spent as much time as they could together. They had went on their picnic, to the mall, tea shops and many other places. Each second they told each other about themselves but each held back secrets about their life now. Neither were ready to take the step to let those mysteries out yet. Finally it was getting late evening on the third day. Kagome knew that she had to leave but it was so hard to take herself away from him. Reluctantly she finally told Yusuke that she had to go back to her uncles house. Yuskue held her tightly and kissed her with all the feeling in his body. He didn't want her to leave him when he just found her but he understood obligation to your family. So he walked her home and with a heavy heart told her to call him as soon as she got home. That he would miss her every second that she was away. And then he walked away.

Kagome's heart was already bleeding with their seperation but she knew that there were people in the past that needed her. So gathering herself together she grabbed the things she needed and then made her way to the well house where she jumped into the past. As she touched down on the otherside she looked at the tangled vines that were her ladder out of the well. She really hated trying to climb out on this side of the well. Minutes later she was out an making her way to village where her friends were. As she entered the village she heard people began to call out greetings to her. She waved and returned their words. Suddenly a bright orange ball wrapped itself around her legs. Catching her balance Kagome looked down to see Shippou hugging her knees.

"Hi Kagome. Did you bring me anything."

"Uhmm... Let me think. Oh yes I think there is some ninja food and pocky for you in my bag."

"Yay thank you Kagome. May I have it now." Shippou said with an hopeful look on his face.

"No your going to have to wait until you eat dinner. Now where is everyone else."

"Oh they are all at Kaede's getting ready to have dinner."

"Good lets go." Kagome said as she made her way to Kaede's hut.

As she reached the wooden structure her ears picked up the sound of the others talking within. Lifting the mat that served as a door Kagome called out a greeting to her friends. Everyone looked up and answered her with the exception of Inuyasha. Looking over the room Kagome was surprised to see Kouga was still staying in the village with the others. Making her way near Sango and Miroku, Kagome dropped down to the floor and made herself comfortable before speaking to Inuyasha.

"So are we leaving in the morning. I don't have much time on this trip only about a week and a half and then I have to take some tests at school."

"Damn woman more tests. I thought you were through with those by now."

"Well these are my final tests for high school but then I have graduation and then I have to take my exams for college."

"What more school. Just how long will you be gone."

Kagome met his eyes and swallowed hard. She knew that Inuyasha was not going to like the answer. He yelled when she only wanted three days. After all they still hads shards to find.

"Uhm it will take about a month."

"Keh. Well maybe you should just go on back to your time then."

"What." Kagome asked in amazement.

"Well there have been no new rumors. No shards or Naraku. Plus Ayame and Kya are still gone. I think we will all take a break and then start the search when you get back."

"Are you sick Inuyasha."

"Keh you better get going before I change my mind."

Before anyone could blink Kagome was gone. She couldn't wait to get back to Yusuke. Now all she had to do was think of what she would tell him about why she was home. Back in Kaede's hut everyone stared at the empty spot that Kagome had just sat in. She hadn't even told anyone goodbye.

"Hey Kagome forgot to leave my ninja food." said an irritated Shippou breaking the silence.

Everyone just rolled their eyes and went back to what they were doing before Kagome had come in. The three demons in the hut were all so preoccupied that none of them recognized the scent of another demon hung around Kagome.
