*Courtyard*

"Sesshoumaru!"

Kuzume rushed forward as several of Kagura's wind-blades burst through the floors above, sending Sesshoumaru flying out of the whole in the wall. (A/N: I swear, if this keeps up, Sesshoumaru won't have a citadel left…) He hit the ground, sliding to a stop just in front of Kuzume.

"Sesshoumaru, are you alright?"

He sat up, and then slowly, painfully, got to his feet. Kuzume quickly looked him over, finding no additional wounds. Kagura and Kanna appeared in the floor Sesshoumaru had dropped from. They jumped out of the window, landing in front of the mismatched group.

"What the hell do you want, Kagura?"

She laughed at InuYasha, and pointed towards Ayumu, replying, "We're here for her."

Naraku's puppet appeared from the shadows of the trees, leaping to join Kagura and Kanna. It looked at Kuzume and gave a low chuckle.

Sesshoumaru walked to stand in the defensive position in front of Kuzume. They would not place a finger on her so long as there was breath in his body. (A/N: That can easily be arranged, Sess-chan…)

InuYasha unknowingly did the same, and stood in front of Kagome. They often made a great team. InuYasha could attack with Tetsusaiga, and Kagome would fire a purifying arrow if the blow didn't kill his opponent. But with three opponents, this technique may prove useless.

Suzuka placed Ayumu down in front of her, setting three spell scrolls in a triangle around her to form a barrier. She tossed an explosive spell scroll at Naraku's youkai puppet, delivering the first blow and the battle was on.

Kagura continuously blew her wind-blades at the group, each person narrowly dodging every time. Kanna basically just stood off to the side until someone would give her some orders to do something.

The puppet was extending his tentacles, giving everyone a hard time, seeing how they were not in a very good condition to be fighting anyone. Sesshoumaru's movements were sluggish, though, still much better than most youkai. And Ayumu seemed to be rousing, though she was still bleeding and the poison's effect had not worn off much, yet.

Kuzume was dashing around, taking tentacles off faster than anyone else. Suzuka was in the back sitting next to Ayumu, messing with her various spell scrolls as if she couldn't decide which ones she should use.

"Suzuka, it would be nice if you would assist us!"

"Yes, we are not fairing well with the state we are in."

She looked up from her scrolls to see Kuzume and Sesshoumaru ripping the tentacles apart as they waited for her response. She turned back and absently replied, "Patience is a virtue…"

"Not right now, it isn't!"

Sango heaved her Hiraikotsu at the youkai, cleaving the puppet in two.

"Ha! Take tha-"

Before she could finish her sentence, the two halves shot tentacles toward each other, connecting with a solid wall of squirming flesh. The puppet pulled back into a whole once more, towering over the small group, laughing at them as it shot another wall of sharpened tentacles at them. Kelala flew out of the way, taking Sango and Miroku with him. InuYasha grabbed Kagome and followed Sesshoumaru and Kuzume towards Suzuka, who wasn't paying attention.

"Suzuka, watch out!"

But Sesshoumaru was too late. A small bundle of tentacles went straight toward Suzuka and impaled her before she even had time to look up.

She looked down at herself. She had two tentacles protruding through her chest, four from her stomach, and one through her arm. She reached down and grabbed hold of one scroll.

"Eat this, bastard." she hissed at him.

She slapped the scroll onto one of the tentacles. No sooner had it stuck than the tentacles recoiled, glowing with electricity. The scroll sent surges of a mock-lightning through the puppet, and it fell, sizzling, to the ground.

InuYasha walked over and sliced it through where its heart would be, disintegrating it. Suzuka slowly stood up, looking over the damage inflicted upon her body. Other than six holes in her torso and one in her arm, she was in pretty good shape. She reached over and removed the spell scrolls from around Ayumu, who sat up, holding her gut as blood rushed to the wound there.

"Those scrolls really pack a punch!" Shippo bounded over to join the two youkai women sitting in the grass as the rest of the gang tried to get rid of Kagura and Kanna.

Suzuka glanced at him, and then helped Ayumu to stand. But as soon as she was on her feet, the blood that was trapped in the wound spilled out and she fell to her knees. Suzuka sat down beside her; they wouldn't be any help in the battle in their current conditions.

Suddenly, Kagura bolted forward, passed InuYasha and Sesshoumaru, passed Kagome and Kuzume, passed Sango and Miroku, and took to the air with Ayumu on the feather with her. Kanna disappeared into the surrounding forest, and another youkai puppet showed up. It grabbed Kuzume, and knocked her out as it followed Kanna.

Before Sesshoumaru could object or follow, their scents were gone.

"Kuzume!"

He ran forward, trying to find which way they went at the same moment Suzuka stood and called out to Ayumu, but they were both too late to catch their kidnapped family.

"Suzuka, you shouldn't stress yourself. You need to heal your wounds." Kagome walked over to try and get Suzuka to go inside so she could bandage the wounds.

"Yeah, Sesshoumaru, then we'll go kick Naraku's ass, and get `em both back."

InuYasha started walking inside, oblivious to the glares he was getting from Suzuka and Sesshoumaru. Kagome and Shippo followed when Suzuka refused any help. Sango, Miroku, and Kelala joined them; they had their own wounds to tend to.

Suzuka dropped to her knees, and she just sat with her hands in front of her as if in prayer, and her eyes closed like she was in meditation. Sesshoumaru leapt to a tree to wait out the night, just in case they came close for some odd reason.

They each woke early the next morning, getting a nice start to the day by having Sesshoumaru rush them, muttering obscenities at them, trying to get them to hurry. This went on for a while until InuYasha finally got fed up and told him, "Look, Naraku wouldn't go to the trouble to kidnap them if he was just going to kill them right away. So, will you just shut the hell up, and let everyone get ready to leave?!"

At his rude remark, InuYasha found himself dangling a good foot off of the ground by his throat.

"You will hurry to leave, or there will be consequences to pay, half-breed." Sesshoumaru hissed dangerously at him.

He dropped the hanyou and turned, stalking down the hall to the courtyard to wait with Suzuka who was still in the same position she had been the day before. Even InuYasha was not stupid enough to provoke the taiyoukai anymore. Sesshoumaru was pissed, and everyone knew it.
