InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ A New Sibling ❯ In the Year 2004... ( Chapter 27 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

*grumble, grumble, grumble* Alright, guys, um…I'm writing this chapter just because I'm bored and I have nothing better to do.

No quotes this time…

Oh, and yes, this is an extra long chapter. Or at least, it's longer than the ones I've been writing lately…

*On the way to Ooyami Village*

A week after the ordeal with Naraku, everyone had had time to recuperate and get rested. This also gave Ayumu enough time to hone in her senses so she would be fine without her eyesight - just in case Kagome's plan didn't work.

"How long until our arrival at the village," Ayumu asked from beside Suzuka.

Suzuka had become a sort of "guide-dog" for Ayumu when they traveled. Ayumu would simply keep her hand on Suzuka's shoulder and Suzuka would tell her when there was a root or a rock or something to avoid if Ayumu couldn't sense it with her expanded aura.

InuYasha gently sniffed the breeze, trying to figure the distance. "At this rate, we might be there in about three days or so."

Ayumu nodded and they continued onward.

The demons in the group stopped abruptly, moving into a defensive position.

"What is it," Kagome asked eagerly.

Ayumu expanded her senses a little more to see what was headed their way. When she found it, she let out a small sigh then began to laugh.

Everyone looked at her as if she were stock-raving mad.

"It's just a wolf demon! Probably Koga, too," she said, quickly calming herself down.

Sesshoumaru and Suzuka relaxed, but kept their guard up as the demon in question burst through the bushes and landed on the path in front of them. Kuzume took one look and gave a short laugh.

"Aura," she exclaimed, making her way to the wolf demon.

Aura smiled and gave Kuzume a friendly hug, making it quick when he received a threatening growl from Sesshoumaru.

"How are you, Kuzume," he asked as InuYasha and Sesshoumaru began to circle him, looking him up and down.

"I am fine, but we must be on our way, Aura," she replied, glancing back at Ayumu.

He looked over her should to see Ayumu standing just behind Suzuka, her hand still on her shoulder.

He motioned toward the two. "You mind introducing me first?"

"Sure," Kuzume said.

She motioned to Kagome, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kelala, telling him their names as she went. They each bowed to him when their name was called, receiving a bow in return. She then introduced Ayumu and Suzuka, getting the same reactions.

"And last, but certainly not least, is Lord Sesshoumaru," she said, placing her hand on Sesshoumaru's shoulder.

He gave a curt nod, receiving a low bow in return.

"It is an honor to meet you, Lord Sesshoumaru," he said, raising his head. He turned back to Kuzume and asked, "can I tag along? I've got nothing better to do. I only stopped by because I was in this neck of the woods."

Kuzume looked back to Kagome and InuYasha.

"It would be a pleasure to have you join us, Aura, my friend," Kagome said with a bright smile.

"Aura will do just fine, thank you," he replied. "So, where are you headed," he asked as they began moving again.

"To Ooyami Village," Ayumu replied.

"The human village about a days journey from here? What's there that would interest such a group as this," he asked motioning to the demons and humans around him.

"I've gone blind, and Kagome thinks that she may have a `cure' for it, but we must travel to the bone-eater well first," Ayumu told him.

Aura nodded in understanding then turned to Kuzume, asking about what he had missed while he was away.

~* The next day *~

Kagome was in Kaede's hut, speaking with her about her plan to get Ayumu through the well.

She came out a moment later with a necklace that had three shards of the Jewel of Four Souls.

"Here," she said, placing it around Ayumu's neck.

Ayumu flinched back at the familiar feel of the prayer beads.

"Do not worry," Kaede said, stepping out of the hut, "these are not prayer beads. The jewel shards should enable you to pass through the well. But no ordinary demon will be able to pass through even with the jewel shards."

Kagome nodded. "Grandma Kaede says that to pass through you must have some kind of link to either me or InuYasha," she said motioning toward InuYasha.

Ayumu grabbed the beads, feeling the roundness and the jagged edges of the jewel shards. "So," she said, "since I am his half sister, I may pass through the well?"

Kagome reached out and took four more necklaces from Kaede. She handed one to each, Sesshoumaru, Kuzume, Suzuka and Aura.

Kuzume and Aura looked at them skeptically while Sesshoumaru and Suzuka slipped them over their heads.

"Miss Kagome," Kuzume began, "why do we get one?"

Aura looked up at Kagome, too, nodding.

"Kuzume," Kagome looked toward her, "you are connected to Sesshoumaru, right?" (A/N: meaning they are proposed mates! Not what I know that you're thinking, you perverts! Bad! Bad readers!)

Kuzume blushed but nodded, earning a sly smirk from InuYasha and Miroku.

"Well," Kagome continued, "Sesshoumaru is InuYasha's half brother, meaning they share some of the same blood so, if I'm not mistaken, you should be able to pass through the well as well."

She nodded in understanding, finally getting control over her blush.

"But, Miss Kagome, that does not explain why I have one," Aura said, looking very confused.

Kagome huffed in irritation. "I wasn't finished. Anyway, you and Kuzume seem to be old friends," she continued at Aura's nod, "so that's a connection to Kuzume. She has a connection to Sesshoumaru who is connected to InuYasha."

"I see now," he said.

"So, can we go now," InuYasha asked, getting aggravated.

The demons that now have the necklaces on all nodded and moved to follow Kagome to the well.

She turned back to look at them. "One more thing: when we get to the other side, there will be many things you don't recognize. Just stay with me, and try not to touch anything."

They nodded and started jumping into the well. InuYasha went first, followed by Kuzume. Next came Sesshoumaru, quickly followed by Aura then Ayumu and Suzuka. Last, Kagome jumped in after making sure that everyone made it through the well and waving farewell to her friends.

The large group stood in the well house, eager to get out of the crowded space.

When Kagome emerged, she moved past the group to the door, opening it and letting the bright sunlight into the room.

As soon as the door opened, all demons in the room quickly clamped their hands over their noses, the reek of pollution seeping through their fingers and agitating their sensitive noses.

"What is that stench," Sesshoumaru said cutting the end of his belt and clamping it over his nose.

Everyone quickly followed suit, relieved when they could breathe better.

"That would be what happens when humans inhabit the earth," InuYasha said with much disdain. He smirked at the demons behind him. "Sometimes I'm glad that I'm only half-demon." He chuckled slightly, walking out of the well house and toward the Higurashi shrine.

Kagome followed him, shaking her head and leading all of the demons into the sun and toward her home.

Sesshoumaru, Aura, Suzuka, and Kuzume stopped in the front yard to watch the cars, bikes, and humans pass on the street below. Ayumu stopped beside them, listening to and smelling everything going on around her.

Kagome quickly noticed the stop in their movements and ran over to hurry them into the house.

"Mom, I'm home," she yelled as soon as she entered the door, forgetting to be mindful of the demons' ears behind her. Her mother came down the stairs moments later, gasping when she got into the kitchen. Kagome looked up from the mail on the table when she heard her mother's gasp. "Oh, Mom, these are some of my friends from the Feudal Era. This is Sesshoumaru, Kuzume, Suzuka, Aura and Ayumu." She pointed to each in turn. They nodded their heads respectfully at her when they heard their name. Kagome began speaking quickly as she walked past her mother to the stairs. "Ayumu has gone blind and needs a doctor; they need some clothes so they won't be noticed; do we have any extras; did I get too much homework; I'll be in my room if you need me; come one, guys." She disappeared into her room as the four demons shrugged and made their way up the stairs, bowing their heads to Ms. Higurashi as they passed her, leaving a very baffled mother in the kitchen.

"Miss Kagome," Aura asked cautiously as he opened her door.

He quickly ducked back out as a shirt went sailing past him. They ventured into her room, dodging the flying items as best as they could. Kagome finally emerged from her closet with an excited, "Ah hah!" They looked at her curiously, but she missed it as she placed the three sets of clothes on the bed and left the room, leaving the demons to ponder about what she was doing.

They heard some murmuring from down the hall then Kagome reappeared with three more sets of clothes. She walked over to the bed, grabbing the previous three sets and walking over and handing one set to each of the demons.

"You can each take turns changing into these clothes in here, and the bathroom, but you have to wear them. If you don't, then you'll most likely end up in some research facility. But you won't be the one doing the research."

They looked at her curiously, but were soon pushed out by Suzuka, Ayumu, Kuzume and Kagome. Kagome helped them change into the clothes she handed them and left it up to the guys to figure it out on their own.

They each came down the stairs moments later. Ms. Higurashi and Souta were trying to restrain Grandpa as the demons descended into the living room.

Without their strange hair colors, markings, eye colors, fangs, claws, and pointed ears, they all looked like someone that could easily fit into the crowd. InuYasha, of course, still had to wear his baseball cap, but it wouldn't be that easy to cover up the full demons' features.

"How they going to fit in," Kagome thought aloud, walking past her mother.

Ayumu and Suzuka were sniffing of their clothes while Sesshoumaru looked very put out at having to wear something like that and Aura and InuYasha just sat down, cross-legged, on the floor. Kuzume walked over and tapped Kagome on the shoulder.

"Miss Kagome, you know that we can all use magic, right," she asked slowly.

Kagome quickly spun around, astounded. "Really?! But do you know a sealing spell or illusion?"

Suzuka looked up from the t-shirt she was inspecting. "Why, Miss Kagome, I'm surprised," she feigned hurt as she continued. "Would you honestly forget about my trickery?" To show her point, Suzuka quickly pulled a scroll from the back pocket of the low-rider jeans she was wearing.

Ayumu and Aura giggled at her, but said nothing.

Kagome lightly smacked her forehead. "Of course! Can you place a spell scroll on them to make them appear human, please?"

Suzuka slowly nodded, removing four more spell scrolls. She placed one on each of the demons - including herself.

After she muttered a few words under her breath, Sesshoumaru's, Ayumu's, and her own turned from shocking white to a very light blonde. Their eyes changed to a hazel color and their fangs and claws slowly changed into canines and normal human finger nails, their markings disappearing.

Kuzume and Aura's hair and eyes remained the same as before, but their claws, teeth and ears changed to those of a human's.

Kagome clapped her hands together happily, smiling brightly to them. "That's wonderful, Mistress Suzuka! They'll almost fit right in now!"

Sesshoumaru raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean almost?"

"You," Ms. Higurashi interrupted, "are more angelic-looking than any human on earth. You'll have people gawking at you like love-sick puppies." She and Souta began to laugh. Kagome went into the kitchen while her mother was explaining for her.

Sesshoumaru snorted in disgust while all the other demons joined in with them.

Kagome came back moments after they had all calmed down and walked over to Ayumu. She placed a pair of sunglasses over her eyes and stepped back to look at her handy work.

"There," she said, "now no one will be able to tell that you're blind and they might leave you alone, or at least not look at you as much."

"Are we ready to leave, now, Miss Kagome," Aura asked as he stood up, his new brown deer-skin jacket ruffling around him as he moved.

Kagome nodded and led them to the door. "I'll be back later today, Momma! We have to go to the hospital to get Ayumu a check up then we'll be back. It could take a while."

"Be careful, Kagome," her mother called after her.

"With these guys with me," Kagome asked with amusement in her voice. "No threat will even come near me!"

With that they left, leaving a very disgruntled old man, a frightened child and a concerned mother behind.

You see? I knew that I would fit Aura in there some where! Now all I have to do is fit the rest of the characters in there if I can. That's IF I can, people! But I'll try my hardest to get them in there some where. It may take a while, though!

Happy Haunting,
