Chapter Four
Kagome followed Rin outside to the gardens. Rin had begged for her to come and play with her, sp she agreed. Kikyo followed behind Kagome as they reached the gardens. Kagome stopped in awe. There was a giant fountain that had crystal clear water pouring from it. The water flowed down several layers of stone which was covered with many different mosses and white flowers before it hit the bottom. Surrounding the fountain was hundreds and hundreds of red, white, yellow, pink, blue and many more colored flowers. The sun was setting, which cast an orange glow in the gardens.
"Wow...this is so beautiful! It reminds me of the lake back home." Kagome said.
"What's your home like, Kagome-chan?" Rin questioned, eyes full with curiosity. Kagome sat down on the ground and instructed Rin to do the same.
"Well, the women work all day, but it can be really fun at times. And once a week, we get to go down to a lake to relax. The scenery around this fountain is almost identical to the scenery at the lake. All the little children run and play games, while the older women relax and talk. I usually go for a swim." Kagome told.
"What about the men, Kagome-chan?" Rin asked.
"You see, that's what is different about the island that I live on. There are no men. Only women." She explained to the small child. Rin nodded and stood up. She walked over to the fountain and pulled out a blue flower. Then she pulled a few yellow, red, white, and pink ones.
"Do you know how to make flower crowns, Rin-chan?" Kagome asked as Rin set her pile of flowers in front of Kagome. She shook her head 'no' abd sat down. "Well, I'l' teach you." Kagome began pulling out some flowers and tying the stems together. Eventually she made a crown, the only blue flower in the middle, and set it on Rin's head.
"Thank you, Kagome-chan!"
"You're welcome!" Kagome smiled affectionately at the girl. *How can those other women not like her? She's so cute!* Kagome thought as she continued smiling. Half an hour passed and Kagome and Rin had made several more crowns and necklaces. They had begged Kikyo to join in, but she just wanted to watch.
Kagome heard footsteps coming closer so she turned around to see who it was. A man, wearing all red, with silver hair, gold eyes, and doggie ears ontop his head approached. Kagome thought he looked like Sesshomaru, but had a boyish look aobut him. *I think I like Sesshomaru-sama better...* Kagome thought. She looked back at Rin, who had scrambled to her feet and rushed over to the new comer.
"Uncle Yasha!" The child squealed. The man's ears twitched at the high pitched sound. "Meet my new friends, Uncle Yasha! That is Kagome-chan and that is Kikyo-chan! They've been playing with me, unlike all the other ladies, who are mean to me!" She spoke very fast.
"Well, its about time there's some one here who can stand you. But, how did they get here, Rin-chan?" He asked. Rin looked at Kagome and Kikyo curiosly, as if she wondered why herself.
Kagome wondered how she was going to explain this. She looked over to her sister, silently begging her to explain. Kikyo understood her plea and began to speak. " Um... We were taken from our home land and brought here by some youkai, named Naraku. His intentions were for us to become slaves, but Sesshomaru-sama bought us from him, and then freed us. He has allowed us to stay, until we are able to find our way home." For the first time Kikyo sounded nervous to Kagome.
"Oh. Well, I'm Inuyasha."
"Kagome-chan?" Rin spoke.
"Yes?"
"Can you read?"
"Yes...why?"
"Can you read me a story from the library for bed? Please?" She begged. Kagome smiled and allowed the child to lead her to the library. They left Kikyo and Inuyasha behind in the gardens. *If its not my imagination...Kikyo was a little bit shy! I think she likes that Inuyasha person!* Kagome giggled as Rin opened the doors to the library. Kagome gasped. This was the second time today that she had been amazed. There were several rows of shelves, each shelf filled with books.
"So, Rin-chan, which one?" Kagome asked.
"I don't know...you pick!" Rin smiled. Kagome walked over to a shelf. She searched until she came upon the last shelf. She found a medium sized red one that looked interesting. Kagome raised up on tip toes to grab it. Barely she got it, but several more books toppled down. Kagome bent down to pick them up. She noticed an old, almost competely burned, and dusty one. "Hmm..." Kagome picked up the book. It had a small painting of two white wings on the front. "I'll have to remember this one." She said, placing it back up. Kagome took the red book and found Rin sitting in a chair.
"You found one?" Kagome nodded. "Yay! Let's go!" Rin pulled her hand and led her to her room. Rin hopped on her bed and covered up. Kagome sat in the chair next to her bed, waiting. As soon as Rin was settled in, she began to read the story. It was Sleeping Beauty. Rin soon fell asleep, and Kagome did too, the book falling to the ground.
Sesshomaru walked around the halls, searching for his ward and Kagome. He asumed they were together. His nose led him to the library, then back down the hall. He followed their scents to Rin's room. Sesshomaru saw Rin sound asleep on her bed. Then he spotted Kagome sleeping in the chair. *I had better take her to her room.* He thought as he walked over to Kagome and picked her up bridal style.
She stirred slightly, then snuggled into his chest for warmth. For some reason, having her in his arms like that made him feel complete. When he reached her new room, he reluctantly layed her onto the bed. He brushed away a few strands of hair from her face and inhaled her scent of jasmine and lilies. *I do not deny that I could drown on her scent.* He thought and then walked out of the room and headed for his library.
"Miroku, Sango." Sesshomaru acknowledged the two ningen in his library. They both bowed respectfully as Sesshomaru entered the room.
"You wanted to see us, Sesshomaru-sama?" Miroku questioned.
"Yes. I would like for you to train some one."
"What do you mean, milord?" Sango asked.
"There is, currently, an untrained miko staying as my guest here. As you both know, that could cause problems, if she were to lose control. Miroku, you will train her spiritually. Sango, you will train her physically. I would train her myself, but, you two would be perfect for her to learn most of the techniques." Sesshomaru explained.
"When do we start?" They both asked.
"Tomorrow. While you train her, I will bive you rooms of your own, so you will not have to travel back and forth to your home village."
"Thank you, Sesshomaru-sama." Both bowed and a servent showed them to their rooms. Sesshomaru walked over to one of the book shelves and grabbed a book. It was the same one Kagome had dropped earlier. He sat down in his chair, near the fire and opened the dusty journel and began to read it's entries.
<i>"I have decided to write down this information. Maybe another like me will come across it. I hope it will be of help, since there are only a few of us in the world. Being a Shiroi Miko makes me more powerful then almost all youkai, hanyou, and ningen. Out of all the people that I have fought, there is only one stronger than I. And that is my mate, Lord Inutaisho of the Western Lands.
"I was different. I was born an inu youkai as well as miko. This made me more powerful, because, along with the poison attacks, enhanced speed and strength, hightened senses, the normal stuff for youkai, I was able to purify like a miko.
"Around the age of sixteen, my miko powers doubled after a dream. In this dream, I had to choose between wether I wanted to become a Shiroi Miko or just stay as a regular miko/youkai. The dream told me that if I were to become a Shiroi Miko, I would transform into another type of youkai and I would have to do whatever I could to help the weak or crippled. I accepted."</i>
The rest of the journel was destroyed. Sesshomaru sighed. He had found some information on Shiroi Mikos. He had never known that his own mother was one. He layed the book down on the table next to his chair and walked to his bedroom. He changed into some night clothes and layed on his bed. Kagome's scent was still there, and he inhaled deeply before falling asleep.
Sesshomaru woke at the crack of dawn. He listened to his surroundings. He could tell that Sango and Miroku were just awaking, there rooms were just donw the hall. Inuyasha and Kagome's sister Kikyo were sleeping together in the same room. He sniffed the air. *Inuyasha has found a mate.* He observed. Then he could smell Kagome's scent. Her room was right next to his and he could here her smooth, even breaths, indicating that she was sound asleep.
Sesshomaru changed into his nromal outfit and headed to Kagome's room. He needed to wake her up so she oculd begin her training. He knocked lightly. Hearing no movement, he entered the room. Kagome was curled up, the covers had fallen down to her waist. One hand rested beneath the pillow for support, while the other was resting slightly off the pillow, nest to her face. Her hair flowed around her face across the pillow. *Like an angel.* Sesshomaru thought.
He walked next to the bed and nudged on her sholder. She stirred slightly and moaned. "I...don't want to...get up yet..." She mumbled through her sleep. Sesshomaru nudged her shoulder, slightly harder this time. Kagome opened her eyes. A few moments passed as her eyes gained focus. Then she saw Sesshomaru staring at her. "Why do I have to get up so early?" She groaned.
"Your training. You must get dressed so you can train." Sesshomaru replied softly.
"Training?" She asked confusedly.
"Yes. Since your a miko, you must have training. We can't have you accidently purify some one, now can we?" He joked. Kagome smiled and shook her head 'no'. She sat up and stretched. "There are some clothes on the dresser over there. Change quickly, and I will come to get you to take you to your training." Sesshomaru told as he turned and headed towards the door.
As soon as the door shut, Kagome got up and put on the white haori and lavender hakamas. As soon as she began pulling her hair back with a tie, Sesshomaru entered the room. "Ready?" He asked. Kagome slipped on some sandals and nodded 'yes'. As he led her, Kagome stared at his back. *He was so caring in my dream last night. Will he be like that in the real world? He seems kind of like that when its just us. But around others, he wears a type of mask to hide his emotions.* She thought.
Sesshomaru led her down several halls and to a dojo. On the walls, hung several kinds of weapons. Bows, arrows, swords, spears, and many other kinds Kagome didn't reconize. There was a man and a woman standing in the middle of the room. The man, which was the forth one Kagome had ever seen, wore a black robe with purple on it. The woman wore all black and had pinkish armor.
Each bowed as Kagome and Sesshomaru enter the room. "Good luck with your training, Kagome." Sesshomaru turned and left, leaving her with the two strangers. Kagome looked down at her feet nervously.
"So, you're Kagome. I'm Sango. And this is Miroku." The woman stated.
"As you know, we will train you. I will start. I'll teach you about your spiritual energy." Miroku stated, walking to stand next to Kagome. He smiled innocently. Kagome's face flushed as she stiffened. The next thing she knew, she slapped Miroku, leaving a red hand print on his cheek.
"I'm sorry Kagome! I forgot to mention that. You see, Miroku has a wandering hand." Sango explained as she walked over to her. Miroku apologized also, and then he began to traing Kagome.
