Chapter 14

 

Richard sighed and stretched as the alarm clock by the side of the bed went off, indicating it was 11:30pm. He leaned up on his elbow and looked down at his mumbling mate. From what he could hear she was mumbling about five more minutes and how it was to early to be getting up. `Typical Sarah,' he thought as he gently shook her shoulder. “Sarah, time to get up.”

Sarah swatted at the hand shaking her and tried to roll over.

“Sarah, if you want to go you better get up,” Richard said, still not getting much of a response. He sighed and started reaching for her feet. “I'm getting closer to your feet Sarah.”

Sarah squealed and jumped up and away from Richard. “Don't you dare touch my feet!” She exclaimed as she stood up.

Richard laughed and climbed out of their bed. “I knew that would wake you up,” he said with a grin. He walked over to his side of the closet. He wouldn't take much, since he knew how to change the style and color of his clothes at will. He pulled out a single bag and placed his things into it.

Sarah on the other hand had chosen a few of her favorite kimonos along with her traditional priestess's kimono. After that she pulled out a smaller bag and began placing a few accessories into it along with several of her tools, which consisted of a wand, several golden scales (her own which she used to represent the goddess), some of her more important candles, and her talismans with the goddess's symbols on them.

“Geese Sarah, got enough stuff?” Richard asked sarcastically.

Sarah glared and rolled her eyes. “A girl can never have enough stuff,” she stated simply.

Richard sighed and walked towards their balcony. “Right then,” he said, “I think since we're going to be in the past for awhile we might as well fly to the well and forget about a car for now.”

Sarah nodded and hoisted the larger bag onto her shoulder, she could hand carry the other one. “Alright, sounds good.”

Richard sighed and shook his head. With Sarah's small frame, the larger bag that contained her clothes looked too large for her to carry. “Here, give me that!” he said, reaching to take her larger bag.

Sarah shook her head and took a step back. “I can carry it fine on my own Richard. I'm not weak you know,” she said in a huff.

Richard rolled his eyes and took the bag off of her shoulder. “Sarah, don't argue. We have a long flight ahead of us and I don't want you wearing yourself out. Now, lets go,” with that he jumped off the balcony, his red/black wings appearing instantly. They spread as far as they could and he hovered there waiting for Sarah.

Sarah rolled her eyes and jumped from the balcony as well, her own wings appearing around her. They were slightly longer then Richards, since it was the female dragon that would be the one carrying the child and that would carry both herself and her mate during the mating flight. Her brown red hair shimmered in the light of the full moon. “You give me back my bag Richard. I can carry it!” she said, her hands on her hip as she hovered a few feet away from him.

Richard laughed and shook his head. “You want this? Then you'll just have to take it from me!” he grinned as he turned and raced off through the dark sky. As he did so, he placed a concealment spell around Sarah and himself so normal humans would not be able to see or sense them. He grinned as he heard the angry yell from his mate. `I'm in for it now,' he thought to himself as he sped away from the demon lands.

Sarah yelled at her mate angrily as he issued his challenge and then flew off. She could easily catch up with him, but she was a distance flier and would wear out faster if she pushed herself too soon. She puffed out her cheeks and glared at her mate's tale. It wasn't fare, here she was, a strong female and her mate could out fly her. At least she could out distance him when it came to the mating flight. As long as she was able to get some distance she could last for days and he would slowly wear out. “That's not fair Richard!” She yelled as they left the demon lands. She felt his power surround her and she was slightly grateful. Her power laid in healing and the arts, she wasn't to good at concealment spells.

Richard laughed and flipped over, flying on his back. “What's not fair?” He asked teasingly.

Sarah growled. “The fact that you are treating me like a child,” she hissed into the wind. She knew he probably heard her, but he only laughed.

After about an hour Sarah started to get irritated. “How much farther lovey?” she asked as she glided up to him. Now that they had flown for a while she was at full strength and her speed was picking up. Sarah made a grab for her bag.

Richard laughed and shifted his weight to carefully avoid her grab. “We're almost there. You can probably see the shrine's aura now,” he said pointing ahead of them.

Sarah looked ahead and nodded, she could clearly see the aura. In fact she had noticed the aura a while ago. With her holy senses much stronger then Richard's it was easy for her to see auras.

Richard tilted his wings to bring himself to a lower altitude. “This way,” he said over his shoulder as he descended.

Sarah sighed and followed suit. She made another attempt to grab her bag as she passed him to come into a landing. The female always landed first, which was traditional as well as respectful. She growled as she missed and Richard pulled out of the way.

As his mate landed, Richard did another circle and then landed himself. He gently pushed her back as she went to snatch her bag away from him. “No love, I'll carry the bags for now,” he stated simply.

Sarah frowned and then froze as a strong female ningen aura approached them along with that of a half-demon. Before she could ask Richard who was approaching she saw them.

Inu-Yasha had been the first to sense the approach of two powerful dragons. When the two had landed behind the shrine he had notified Kagome. Kagome of course wanted to meet the new arrivals, although Inu-Yasha had told her one of them was Richard, the dragon they had met a while ago.

“Hello there,” Kagome said with a sweet smile as she spotted Richard and the girl that was with him. She yawned and rubbed her eyes. “What are you doing here so late?” she asked tiredly.

Richard sighed and rubbed his eyes. “It's easier for demons to travel at night. Most humans are not outside after the sun goes down,” he stated simply as he shifted the two bags he was holding.

It was at that moment Sarah made a grab for her bag. Her hand was on the strap when there was nothing but air. “Richard! Give me back my bag already!” She demanded as he reappeared ten feet away from her.

“No, you'll tire out to soon if you carry this,” He stated simply.

Sarah glared and fumed for a moment before turning to the miko and the Inu. “Hello, I'm Sarah, Richard's mate,” she said with a bow and a smile.

Kagome returned the smile. From what she could tell this dragon had holy powers, but not of any kind she was aware of. “If I may ask, why do you have holy powers? I thought demons could not have holy powers.”

Sarah laughed softly and shrugged. “It's because most dragons worship a Mother goddess. The worship of the Mother Goddess as well as the presence of holy powers is two of the reasons many demons and dragons think dragons aren't demons at all. But nobody has ever tried to prove otherwise,” Sarah shrugged, “It's just easier to not argue about it,” she then turned her attention back to Richard. “I will not tire out Richard, just give me my things!”

“No,” he said as he shook his head.

Sarah grumbled and folded her arms across her chest. “Do you ever have problems like this with him?” Sarah asked Kagome, obviously meaning Inu-yasha.

Kagome nodded. “All the time, I think most guys are like this.”
Sarah grinned and her mood lightened. “Well, I'm sorry we disturbed you. If you will excuse us, Richard is taking me to the past to help with your sister.”

Kagome frowned, she knew what Sarah was going to do if she went into the past, but she wasn't sure if she wanted another stranger near her sister.

“You have no need to worry. I have helped with many changes in the past and it is traditional to have a priestess of the mother goddess at every change and coming of age. I will make sure no harm befalls your sister during this time,” Sarah said with a deep bow. She didn't want Kagome to worry too much about Ether.

Kagome nodded and tried to relax. “I know I should be able to trust you, but please forgive me, I'm just worried about Ether.”
Sarah nodded understandingly.

“We better go before Sesshomaru throws a hissy fit,” Richard said over his shoulder, he had already walked half way to the well house.

Sarah sighed and rolled her eyes. “Men,” She said simply with a roll of her eyes. Sometimes she wondered why she had mated with that idiot. She bowed one last time to Inu-Yasha and Kagome and then hurried after her mate, still trying to grab a hold of her bag. “Richard!” she said exasperated.

 

Kagome giggled as she watched to two dragons enter the well house. Richard and Sarah really reminded her about Inu-Yasha and herself. She sighed and yawned again as the two dragon's auras faded and then disappeared all together. Before she could start heading back into the house to head back to her bed, she felt two strong arms lift her up. “Inu-yasha, what are you doing?” She exclaimed as she was lifted completely into the hanyo's arms. He jumped and before she knew it, she was back in her room sitting on her bed.

“I thought it would be faster if I carried you into your room. You can be so slow,” he stated as he sat on the windowsill.

Kagome sighed and rolled her eyes, sometimes Inu-Yasha surprised her. “Whatever Inu-Yasha, good night,” she was about to crawl back under the covers when an arm snaked around her waist. She gasped and looked over her shoulder to see Inu-Yasha's face incredibly close to hers. “What are you doing?” She whispered softly.

Inu-Yasha said nothing as he leaned closer to Kagome. He inhaled silently, taking in her wonderful spicy scent. He pulled her close to him, holding her against his chest. `Now,' he thought `I should tell her now.'

`My god, what is Inu-Yasha doing?' Kagome wondered as a blush spread across her cheeks. She felt comfortable being held by Inu-Yasha, but the way he was acting made her feel a little too uncomfortable. “Inu-Yasha?”

“hmm?” Inu-Yasha murmured as he nuzzled Kagome's neck. `I wonder what her skin tastes like,' he thought idly. He flicked his tongue out and gently licked Kagome's neck.

Kagome gasped and squirmed slightly in Inu-Yasha's grasp. “Inu-Yasha what are you doing?!” She demanded softly, her voice failing her slightly as she felt Inu-Yasha nuzzle and then lick her neck.

“Something I should have done a long time ago Kagome,” he whispered as he turned her around gently in his arms. He held her chin for a moment and then hesitantly kissed her softly on her lips, his hand nervously sliding under her shirt. (They are not mating. Inu-Yasha is just telling her how he feels about her)

 

Richard jumped free of the well and swiftly landed a few feet away from it. The bags in his hands weren't very heavy for him, so they did not hinder his progress. He dropped part of the concealment spell in order to ward off weaker demons. “You alright Sarah?” He asked as he heard her land right next to him. At that moment he felt her hand tugging at her bag. “Oh alright, fine, but if you get tired, don't complain to me!” He said as he handed her, her bag.

“Finally!” Sarah said exasperated. She took her bag and slung it over her shoulder. “Alright, lead the way lovey, since you know where you're going and all.” She said as she waved around her at the wild Feudal era of Japan.

Richard laughed and sighed. “You won't believe where Sesshomaru's castle is,” he said with an evil smirk.

Sarah frowned. “What do you mean?” She asked questioningly, she laughed softly. “It's not like the castle is in the exact same spot where the demon lands will be…is it?” she asked as Richard kept smiling.

“You'll see,” He said as he launched into the air. He hovered about 50 feet in the air for his mate.

Sarah sighed and jumped into the air after her mate, her wings straining slightly from the extra weight of her bag. `It shouldn't be affecting me that badly,' she thought idly to herself before gliding off to follow her mate.

 

Sesshomaru woke with a start as a familiar youki approached his castle, along with one he had never encountered before. He carefully removed his arm from around Ether and pushed himself up. Somehow, he had ended up falling asleep next to Ether and wrapped her up in his arm. He sighed as the warmth from her back left him and his chest grew cold from the lack of it.

He gently climbed out of Ether's bed and then he stood next to it to look down at her. It looked like she hadn't even moved since he had put her there. “What time is it?” He wondered tiredly to himself. His instincts told him it was a few hours till dawn. `About time he showed up,' Sesshomaru thought to himself as he went through the adjoining door that led into his own room. He quickly changed into fresh clothes and waited in his chambers until the Cypher and the unknown other arrived.

He didn't have to wait long until there was a knock at his door. “Enter,” he stated.

He turned towards the arrivals and his eyes widened at the sight of Cypher's female. She was small, well small in comparison to Cypher and himself. She had wavy brown hair that seemed to sparkle with strands of red and blonde. Her eyes were the deepest blue he had ever seen, and yet they almost looked gray. Her wings, which were folded delicately across her back really did have silver rune symbols across the edges. Unlike Ether, Cypher's mate didn't have a swirl of golden scales on her cheek. Instead she had a star like symbol on her forehead. There was a center sphere with a triangle on the top and bottom and on the right there was a claw of sorts pointing down and to the left another claw shape pointing up.

“My Lord Sesshomaru, I am Sarah Dracomin, Priestess to the Mother Goddess, and mate to Richard Cypher.” Sarah said with a deep bow. Her hair fell into her face and she reached up to brush it back as she stood.

Sesshomaru bowed deeply as well. It was an honor to meet a full dragon in person, but an even greater honor to meet a priestess of the Draconic Mother Goddess. “It is an honor to meet you Priestess Sarah,” Sesshomaru said formally. Inwardly he was wondering how Cypher could have been able to mate with such a dragoness as Sarah.

As if reading his thoughts, Richard reached out to put his arm around Sarah's waste. Sarah frowned, but did not pull away. “My I see Ether please?” Sarah asked gently. From what Richard had told her, it would seem that the Lord of the West felt something towards the young dragoness Ether.

Lord Sesshomaru nodded and led the way through the adjoining door into Ether's room. Sarah brushed past Sesshomaru as she spotted the sleeping girl. Sesshomaru watched with a slight frown as Cypher's mate placed a hand over Ether's head and then over her heart.

`Strange…her change is going to start soon,' she thought worriedly to herself. “When did she fall into the deep slumber?” she asked her attention still on the sleeping girl.

Richard frowned, something was wrong and Sarah was worried, he could feel it. “Yesterday,” he said, standing near the doorway next to Sesshomaru.

Sarah frowned deeply. “That's not right…it feels like Ether's change is going to happen later today. It feels like she has been asleep for days now. Her human half is extremely depleted and her dragon half is the only part sustaining her life now,” Sarah turned her gaze towards Sesshomaru and Richard. “What was she like before she fell asleep?”

Sesshomaru frowned slightly. “She was tired, hard to awaken in the morning. She also seemed distracted in a way.”

Sarah's frown deepened as she gently lifted Ether's head. As she did so a soft moan emitted from Ether. Sarah purred softly and soothingly, a maternal instinct. `Something is wrong…goddess has something to do with this, I can see it in Ether's aura…then again the goddess has been known for interfering with many dragon lives.' Sarah sighed and shook her head. “The goddess has something to do with this.”

“Has to do with what?” Sesshomaru demanded.

“The fact that Ether didn't fall asleep sooner, that her change is coming to soon…also add in the fact that the true full moon is in a few days along with the mating season. The goddess is definitely up to something,” Sarah said with a deep frown. It wasn't her place to know what the goddess planned, she just knew how to recognize the signs of when the goddess was involved.

Sesshomaru walked swiftly up to Ether. It couldn't have been a coincidence that all this was happening so soon. `Is it possible the dragon goddess wants me to mate with Ether?' he thought lightly to himself. It was a funny thought, that a goddess of dragons would be hurrying a coming of age up just so one of her people could mate. The thing was that kind of thing was extremely possible. The gods have been known for messing with the lives of demons and humans alike. Hell, one of his ancestors was the god of lightening.

“What needs to be done?” Sesshomaru asked softly.

Sarah ran her a hand over Ether's check, tracing the golden spiral. “When she awakens, she'll be disoriented and might hallucinate. Depending on how strong she is, the hallucinations might be very realistic to her. In fact, if she projects we might even be able to see what she is hallucinating or what she is remembering. Also, she will be in a great deal of pain, you'll need to comfort her the best you can. I will be taking in as much of her pain as my body will allow and I will be able to channel most of her power to a safer level. More then likely her power will spike and something destructive might occur,” Sarah dropped her heavy bag onto the ground and opened it. She pulled out her priestess kimono and set it down, still folded. She then opened her smaller bag and pulled out one of the pendants with the symbol of the goddess on it. “I'll need to trace this symbol over every door and window leading into this room, in order to keep out unwanted demons, humans, and spirits. Once I do so Sesshomaru, you won't be able to leave until her change is done.”

Sesshomaru nodded slightly. He would have to notify Jaken and tell him what to do for the next day or days.

“In the beginning she will have a light fever, which will escalate quickly and she will be in great pain. That is when her bones will be growing or changing, that will be the toughest time for her. You will need to comfort her; I will help if I can.”

“How long with it last?” Sesshomaru asked softly. He didn't know how long he would be able to stand watching Ether in immense pain that he couldn't fix.

“The most painful part could last between 3 hours to 12, depending on how depleted her human side is. Because of how much I feel is already depleted I'm going to guess around 5 hours. After that she'll fall into a light sleep, but she might still have a fever. Every coming of age and change is different, so I can't guarantee what will happen.” Sarah said sadly. “I can numb the pain a little. A priestess's job is to make sure nothing happens to the dragon or dragoness that is going through the change.” Sarah looked around at everything Richard had gathered. “Luckily most of the tools I would need are already here. Thank you Richard,” Sarah said with a loving smile.

Richard returned the smile and bowed slightly. He had tried to get everything that would have been needed.

Sarah sighed as Ether moaned a little louder. “All we can do now is wait. I would suggest Lord Sesshomaru that you get whatever you need to get done and then return right away. I want to put the wards up as soon as possible.” Sarah stated as she pulled her favorite candles out along with her wand.

Sesshomaru nodded and with one last look at Ether, left the room and hurried towards his study. From his study he could summon any servant he wanted to speak with.

So I have another chapter up. I hope you guys are enjoying all the chapters I'm getting done (even though I haven't posted any in like…months…). I want to apologize for my lack of writing and posting. Because this is my senior year in High school, I've been extremely busy and stressed trying to get stuff done that needs to be done.

 

I'll honestly be working on the next chapter and hopefully in a few chapters I can make something I've been wanting to make for some time…once I do I'll have to change the rating of this comic to X though…hehe…anyway, read and review please.
