Things had returned to its normal pace- long days on the road
searching for shards, friendly banter along with idle chatter and,
of course, the sound of a perverted monk becoming reacquainted with
the backside of Sangos… hand.
Today was what most of the group determined to be a lucky day- they
had finally spotted a village. They had been sleeping under the
stars for over two weeks now and the group, InuYasha excluded, was
delighted that the possibility of a soft futon and a warm mean was
a possibility. Miroku wasted no time sensing an evil aura on the
biggest and wealthiest home; in fact, it had been so long since the
monk was able to use his sales pitch that he put on quite a show,
and earned the admiration of the locals, requesting the strange
group spend an extra day so that Miroku could bless their homes in
turn. Everyone seemed thrilled by that not only would they have a
chance to rest and refuel their bellies, but line their wallet as
well.
All of course, except a certain hanyou.
“I don't see why we have to spend an extra day here. Were
just wasting time hunting down that bastard Naraku!”
“InuYasha, we need a break. If we don't get a little
rest our bodies are going to fall apart! You've been marching us
nonstop for days now, and we have gone along without complaint- SO
DON'T YOU DARE COMPLAIN ABOUT US STAYING HERE!”
“I can complain, bitch, because we're wasting
TIME!”
“Don't call me that Dog-boy!”
Inuyasha lowered his voice, narrowed his eyes and squared his
shoulders. She infuriated him, but he had to admit he loved to mess
with her. Her eyes held such a fire and her body flushed red. It
was too irresistible-
He purposefully spoke the word-
“Bitch.”
“SIT BOY! SIT SIT SIT!”
“Oi-UGH!”
The mighty hanyou was forced to the ground and could do nothing but
glare at the miko and wonder exactly what he found so alluring
about pissing her off.
If Kagome had thought that their passionate kiss would have changed
something between them, she would have been fooling herself. This
was not the first time that they had shared an embrace or let
themselves get a little too carried away with the moment. As much
as she enjoyed it, longed for it to happen again and
continue-
She also wished that it didn't. Each time they took a step further
in their relationship he would retreat ten steps back. He would
avoid her eyes for days, and speak to her in a manner that made her
blood boil. He either was ashamed of what they did or he repulsed
by it. Sometimes she thought that he was embarrassed or afraid,
maybe even felt guilty. Kagome could never pinpoint the exact
emotion he seemed to be struggling with; it changed every time.
Although many considered him simple because he does not bare his
soul to the word or share his thoughts freely, Inuyasha was the
most complex person she knew. And so much of it came from his
inability to see the good in himself.
So his excessive rude behavior was nothing new to her; she had been
expecting it. In many ways, everything was back to normal. If the
hanyou thought that al it would take was harsh words to scare her
off, he was sadly mistaken.
As Inuyasha glared from his crater at the miko, the slayer, the kit
and the cat strode by, headings shaking from both laughter and
pity. His sensitive ears heard the jingle of the monks staff and
his scowl deepened; Mikroku never missed an opportunity to taunt
him while he was down.
“You know Inuyasha, I have a theory as to why you so
frequently put yourself in this position.”
The dog demon rolled his eyes awaiting an answer he was sure he
wasn't going to like. The monk leaned down closer.
“It is my belief that you get yourself purposely sat, so that
you might get a better view of Kagomes lovely skirts. They are
after all so short and-“
The monk was cut off pervert thought as the dog demon rose in
record speed and hit Miroku over the head. He glared at his
`friend'.
“Watch that dirty mouth of yours, monk.”
“Ah, Inuyasha, I am simply saying that your rosary had its
advantages! If Sango would wear the strange clothing that Kagome
does, I would be eager to aquire one as well.”
This made the dog demon snort. If miroku had a rosary he would
create a crater so deep he would never crawl out of it. Inuyasha
dusted off his clothing as he attempted to find where the rest of
the group had gone off to.
“You think I like having this collar around my neck? Every
time the wench gets in a foul mood, she takes it out on me, and I
end up eating dirt!”
Miroku shot a look at his companion.
“To be fair, Inuyasha, I don't think I have ever seen Kagome
in a bad mood when it didn't directly relate to you. You seem to
push her to her limits on purpose.”
The hanyou just shrugged his shoulders, indicating that the
conversation was over. He opened the sliding door to find his
friends sitting comfortably and eating an enticing meal. Kagome
looked up at Inuyasha and shot him a bright smile. She was happy.
Despite the argument they had just had moments ago, the foul things
he had been saying to her, the distance he had tried to keep…
she still treated him as if he deserved that smile. He found
himself unable to deal with the guilt of being such a fucking
asshole to Kagome and eagerly sat down to dig into the meal. Sure,
it wasn't Ramen, but at this point Inuyasha didn't care what
it was, as long as he could avoid making eye contact with the miko
and keep his mouth shut.

After the meal, Kagome retired to take a bath, Shippou following
happily at her heels. InuYasha reached out and grabbed the fox by
its tail.
“OW! What are you doing that for you big jerk?! I want to
take a bath with Kagome!”
“You're too old to be bathing with the women,
runt.”
“No I'm not! I'm just a kid!” He protested, shaking
with rage at both being held by his tail and stopped from
fulfilling one of his favorite past times. “I like to bathe
with Kagome! She always washes my fur for me and lets me play. She
fun in the bath!”
Inuyasha's cheeks colored at the fox's words, as he couldn't help
but imagine Kagome naked and wet, beads of water dripping down her
body and she leaned over to wash his…
He abruptly dropped the kit and he scampered to the door. He looked
over his shoulder before placing a smirk on his childish face.
“You're just jealous you can't take a bath with
Kagome.” Before the irritated dog demon could react, he shut
the door behind him and Inuyasha stood to follow the fox and
retrieve him, fully intending on teaching the bastard a lesson.
“OI RUNT. GET BACK HERE SHIP-“
If Inuyasha's face was pink from anger, it was as deep a red as his
fire rat now. He couldn't help but freeze in place as he stared at
Kagome's naked form.
And she couldn't help but utter the first word that came to her
mouth.
“SIT!”
He had no choice but to look straight at her.
She was perfect. His eyes immediately shot to the abundant swell of
her breast, entranced watching the heavy rise and fall of her
perky, full bosom. He had to bite his tounge from licking his lips-
her nipples were becoming harder before his eyes and they were
basically begging him to tease and bite them! He lowered his eyes
to the curves of her waist, Gods, she was so shapely! Her stomach
was defined in a feminine way, her long creamy legs toned from
their month of travel. He knew this; he had familiarized himself
with the underside of her thighs from all the time he traveled on
his back. But to see them like this, bare and leading to her
core… His eyes traveled to Kagomes nest of-
His eyes widened. Kagomes…WHAT?
Inuyasha made the mistake of making eye contact with her. She had
been worrying her bottom lip before the hanyou had caught her eye.
It had only been a passing moment, but time seemed to have stopped
still. It dawned on them at the same time, the trance broken.
Covering her breasts and screaming as loud as she could manage-
“INUYASHA! GET OUT!”
“O-O-OI BITCH! It not like I WANTED to get sat here!
Its not like you have anything to look at anyway!”
Liar! His inner voice berated him. She had everything he wanted to
look at. Maybe Miroku was right about the rosary.
Recovering from the spell, Inuyasha gathered as much dignity and
turned his back to the bathing beauty, who had submerged her body
fully in the water, shooting daggers his way.
“LEAVE INUYASHA!”
“Keh! Im going bitch!” He spat back, his face as red as
his fire rat. He quickly exited the house and ran off to find
comfort in the forest. The scene that had played out before him had
his member aching for relief.
~.~
Kagome sat in her bath, stewing in her anger.
`He can be such a jerk! How can he say that I have nothing he
wants to see, when he was more
than willing to kiss me the other day? Unless…
…Unless he still sees Kikyou when he looks at me. I
can't compete with her. She was his first love. They share a tragic
past… well technically, present. In a way I don't want to
compete. He shouldn't have to choose. Normal people don't have to
make a choice between their dead girlfriends and their
current… shard detector.'
The girl sighed. If only he had ever been semi clear about his
intentions towards her. He had said that he would protect her, he
acted like he wanted her with him… but as a friend? A lover?
To what end?
Kagome pushed these questions out of her head. They always lead to
nowhere. She would wind up at the same conclusions and tonight she
just wasn't in the mood. She shouldn't be so vain as to be insulted
that the man she had desired for so long had basically screamed at
her that he found her unattractive, but she couldn't help it.
Kikyou would always be a part of their twisted love triangle. She
would forever be the shadow hovering over them.
And as much as she wanted to hate Kikyou… she couldn't. She
felt pity for her, for Inuyasha. The healer in her yearned to ease
his pain, hers as well. Just by looking at the clay miko one could
tell how deeply she was scared. She left this world with hate an
betrayal on her mind and in her heart, only to be pulled back into
it with the same deranged emotions consuming her conscious. Kagome
felt the sting of tears prick her eyes. What a miserable
existence.
Kagome ran fingers through her hair. She knew nothing would change
until the Miko was put to rest. He would continue to hurt her by
seeing Kikyou. But it would be nothing compared to the pain of not
being by his side. Nothing was simple.
~.~
Inuyasha sat in the darkness of the forest, unable to stop the
image of a naked Kagome from entering his mind.
How did he get himself into these messes? It was a sweet torture.
He longed for another, longer glimpse, but it turned him on so much
it was painful. To be able to look, but not to touch… His
self control was at its limits.
And over the many months of having a goddess press her firm breasts
against his back, clamp her thighs around him, make his head swim
with her alluring scent... he had practiced extreme self control.
How many times did he have to clench his fists to stop himself from
taking her in the dirt, not giving a fuck who the hell was there to
look on?
Ugh, and when she was in heat. It was so mouth watering that he
actually HAD to stay away. He took extra precaution slammed her
with as many insults as he could muster. Each month on those cursed
days her body seemed to be singing to him; his demon cried for
release in more ways than one, begging to claim her with such force
she might shatter.
And he was damn pissed that he couldn't do any of it.
So he resorted to name calling. Just as he had in there. He rubbed
his temples. It was going to be hell when he got back. He had been
treating her rather coldly since he had kissed her. He couldn't
help that. She had looked so irresistible in that moment, and had
shared something so precious with him… he was moved. No one
gave a hanyou attention, let alone a sentimental gift; but that was
his Kagome. She didn't care about his background, she didn't care
that he was between worlds, a half breed. She just accepted him as
he was.
And when he was with her, he felt free. Like the pain of the
isolation he had his entire life was lifted, as long as she was
near by. She was never afraid of him, or scared that his claws
would dig too deeply into the back of her thighs as he held her.
She sought out his company and opinions, who had ever done that
before to a hanyou? And because she saw good in him, it let him
believe that maybe he could be the person she saw.
With her, he was happy.
And that was wrong.
He shouldn't, couldn't allow himself to be happy. Kikyou had died
because him! She was his burden. How could he allow himself to
smile and laugh as Kikyous soul was not at rest? That she roamed
the Earth, waiting for her opportunity to bring him to Hell to
unite them forever. Even though every fiber of his being cried out
that it was wrong, didn't he owe that to her after what happened?
If it wasn't for him…
Inuyashas thoughts were stopped short, as the soul collectors cut
through the sky.
“Kikyou…”
