A Slave's Tale
Episode 8—
Enter Rin, the All Around Adorable Girl
When they left Lord Inutaisho's palace that morning, it was still dark out. It was an eight hour drive to the seaside where this Kendo retreat resort was located, When Kagome had loaded Sesshomaru's luggage into his vehicle she did not see Lord Inuyasha or who was also attending at all, and she probably won't see him until they get there since they were taking separate vehicles. The drive seemed long, the chauffeur had been a long term friend of hers, his name was Funaki so she sat up front with him while Sesshomaru sat in the back of course doing whatever soon to be lords do. Kagome really didn't care much for what Sesshomaru was going to do during the long drive anyway, and besides its not like he wanted her back there with him. It seemed to her that he had been especially cold to her this morning not that he wasn't cold already to begin with. She remembered back to the incident…
The morning started off as typical, Kagome was preparing the Youkai's bath as she had been doing every morning. He had come into the bathroom and even though he seemed to hate her, he would always mumble some kind of good morning to her, but that didn't happen that morning at all.
His usual insult of, `I hope you have your gloves because I do not want your human touch to filthy up my perfect complexion.' Sesshomaru didn't even say that! He didn't even so much as throw an insult her way. To her it was simply odd, so Kagome feeling a little uneasy began the scrubbing of his back, with her eyes closed of course. She didn't want too see anything she wasn't supposed to see. Kagome knew he made her do this whole bathing thing just to humiliate her even further. Well it was best not to dwell on it, it was time for her thoughts to move on.
It was late afternoon when Sesshomaru's vehicle was moving towards the very impressive resort. Kagome's face was plastered to the window, she had never seen the ocean before and her whole face lit up with glee as she stared out at the never ending sea of blue.
“Beautiful, isn't it?” Funaki asked with a hint of amusement.
All Kagome could do was nod, “I have never seen anything like it in person.” She then noticed that they were following many vehicles down a long driveway that turned into a very wide and large circle up to what looked like a Spanish Villa. The roof tiles were made of red clay which laid upon the white stucco painted exterior, there were open breezeways that connected large apartment type rooms on the bottom floor, as the view moved upwards against the villa, it became more like a large hotel. Attendants were assisting many visiting folks with their luggage.
Funaki pulled the car up to the steps made of stone were two attendants rushed towards them.
Kagome opened the door and stepped out, stretching, getting all the uncomfortable kinks and curls out of her back and limbs. Oh it felt so good to get out of that car, Funaki had hurried to the back door and opened it for Sesshomaru, then rushed around to the trunk and began getting his luggage out along with the hired resort hands.
Sesshomaru waited until the humans had his luggage in hand, the slave girl, he would not address her by name or use her name even in thoughts, that way there is no confusion of her station. She was obviously waiting for orders as she with one hand grabbed the brass handle and lifted the end of the heavy black trunk, too heavy for a young girl. Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed slightly almost unnoticeable if someone wasn't looking at him. That girl just stood there holding the end of the trunk up? Of course the other end had wheels on it, but it should have taken at least two people to wheel that thing into the resort. And what made matters a bit more confusing to the almost demon lord was that she had his large heavy bag swung over her shoulder, and that small human radio held tightly in her left hand.
The girl was looking off in the distance, humming quietly to herself. A human, especially a female should not be able to carry anything of his without assistance. But no, she just stood there looking like an innocent China doll, her hair swept up in a thick pony tail, which was slightly messy from the long trip, fragile and delicate she looked, holding his heavy luggage. He would keep his eye on any situation this girl was involved in.
Funaki saw the way his master was watching Kagome and he purposely bumped into Kagome, knocking the trunk from her hand, it hit the ground with a loud thud. Kagome wincing in pain shook out her hand.
“What did you do that for?” Kagome lifted her hand to her lips and blew softly on her aching fingers.
Clearing his throat, Funaki groaned. “Ah Kagome, you know that trunk is way too heavy for you, you shouldn't try to hold anything up beyond your ability. It's silly.”
Her brows creased together, completely confused. Kagome was wondering what in the world he was talking about. It then came to her, Oh no! She was holding that heavy trunk with one hand! The recognition flashed in her eyes and Funaki nodded. “Oh, your right, what was I thinking?” She wrung her fingers around her wrist to make it look like it was strained.
“Perhaps I should help you?” He waited for her reply.
“Certainly, of course.” Kagome sighed and together they reached down an grabbed a hold of the brass ring of the trunk, lifting it up.
Something was still nagging at the back of Sesshomaru's mind, but when she suddenly dropped the trunk as if her hand had been broken. It did look a little forced, and the tone of her voice made him realize that this girl was indeed hiding something. Of course it might not be that important, but Sesshomaru was not going to be surprised, he would get down to the bottom of whatever it was this human girl was hiding. “Enough wasting time.” Sesshomaru announced. “We shall proceed inside.” He turned and made his way towards the double glass doors, which would be opened by a doorman, a human. Wearing a blue uniform and a blue hat, he stood there stark still as his hand had reached the gold handle and pulled the door open for Sesshomaru, who walked in without so much as thanking him.
Kagome and Funaki carrying Sesshomaru's belongings, smiled and nodded to the doorman, who smiled back. They both pulled the trunk through the grand lobby, the whole left side was the check in counter, but right in the middle of the lobby was a beautiful waterfall, adorned with many tropical flowers, there were wicker benches with reddish-brown cushions going around it. Another sitting area where it looked like a family of Youkai were talking to one of the resort workers, they looked unhappy.
“I will go check our master in.” Funaki said as he and Kagome sat the trunk down, after that, Funaki went to stand in line as Sesshomaru took a seat looking towards the waterfall.
She couldn't tell if Sesshomaru was impressed or not, he never showed any kind of expression on his face, well no that's not true, the only expression she had ever seen was anger or irritation. But most of the time he held a completely straight face. Kagome wondered why that was, he was such a strong and powerful Youkai, emotions are a part of who everyone is, Youkai or human. She assumed that Sesshomaru must associate feelings with weakness, or that he was raised in a cold unloving environment. That part was probably true. Or was he just lonely? Of course she would never come right out and ask him about these things, not like he would answer anyway, he'd probably end up punishing her for her being too nosy. She rolled her eyes. Yep, that is what would happen, she was sure of it.
Someone was heading over to Sesshomaru, someone who looked very important. He was dressed in fine clothing, his shirt made of gold silk and a pair of dark slacks. He was tall with dark hair that was cut fashionably short. He was most obviously Youkai, Kagome could tell by the amount of power radiating from his body. He was definitely a Fire Youkai. Kagome had learned to feel out Youkai from a mile away, her senses where highly developed now. His ki level could rival Sesshomaru's. The strange Youkai's piercing green eyes looked her way and Kagome tilted her head slightly. He winked in her direction and she shifted her gaze to the floor.
“Ah, Sesshomaru, It's good to see you.” His deep baritone voice vibrated through the lobby.
Sesshomaru nodded once. “Indeed, Lord Kensuke.”
“While I was greeting the guests, your scent was heavy on both the human male in line at the desk and that girl standing there with your luggage.” His mouth curved into a slight smirk. “You've brought two slaves with you, during last year's visit you didn't bring a single one.” Kensuke's grin was growing, “What changed your mind?”
Sesshomaru glanced over at Kagome who still had her face towards the floor. “The girl, she is just the means to and end, an end in humiliating a Youkai in my father's court. And the male is the driver my father sent with me.”
Kensuke looked over at Sesshomaru's slave girl; she was very lovely her figure was definitely the envy of all Youkai female, curvy. The dark curtain of silk that seemed to frame her face, even up in that tail on top of her head, but once the massive beautiful strands cascaded down her back her tresses seemed to desire someone's fingers running through them. She had the face of an angel, innocent and sweet. A beautiful creature untouched by the cold cruel hands of lustful masters. Of course her scent had no innocence left, but she appeared to be just the same. She was exactly what he was attracted to.
The way this Youkai was looking at his slave, caused something unfamiliar to pit in Sesshomaru's stomach, in fact it was downright unpleasant and he did not like it, he did not like it at all. He felt like he had to act, but how, and why? She was just a stupid human. But he better make it clear that this human slave did belong to him. “Kensuke, that girl is just a slave. Put your eyes somewhere else.”
Shifting his gaze to Sesshomaru, Kensuke let out a small chuckle. “Sesshomaru, the girl is nice, how about I trade you one of my slaves for your stay, I often do a bit of trading with other guests while they are here and most of the time they agree. Besides I'm sure one of mine is a bit more what you are looking for in a faithful servant. And you can let me take care of yours.”
“I am sure you could acquire me faithful servants,” Sesshomaru sounded relatively bored, but the mere idea that his old friend wanted to take her away, well it did not sit well with him. “Yet this girl knows particularly what my needs are, it would take far too long to train another, even for the two week stay.” And what he said was not far from the truth, he had established a good routine with the girl, she knew exactly what to do and when to do it. Without complaints.
Kensuke smiled, but Sesshomaru could tell it was forced it was not easy to deceive him.
“At least you could tell me the girl's name, since you are not willing to trade her.”
“I do not know her name.” Sesshomaru lied, for the first time ever in his life. He lied and for what?! He should care less if this Lord Kensuke wanted this girl, or wanted to know her name. Could it be the fact that the girl was just his personal slave that she belonged to him, that could be the reason? He never did like to share, it's always been -an all for one and all for me- type attitude whenever he wanted something.
“That's too bad.” Kensuke was no longer smiling, he could tell Sesshomaru was not going to budge on this, and if it was one thing Kensuke was not good at, it was losing. He would get what he wanted, whether Sesshomaru agreed or not. It was not wise to cross Lord Kensuke Taiyoukai of the East. “Enjoy your stay, Sesshomaru. I hope to see more of you participating in the activities.” Turning on his heels, Kensuke confidently strolled towards a few other guests, passing by Funaki who had returned with Sesshomaru's room key.
Without warning, Sesshomaru moved over to Funaki and ripped the key from his room, “Let's go.” He said sounding rather gruff, he was upset at himself, getting all worked up over a stupid human female.
His two slaves were soon following him to the left, going out a set of doors towards the rooms on the first floor, passing under two breezeways. They came to the last room, it appeared to be the biggest. Sesshomaru unlocked his door and pushed the door open, entering first, the slaves hurrying in behind him setting down his things.
The room was very big, on the right side of the room lay a large King sized Western style bed with crisp, cool dark blue satin sheets, the floor was made of a fine dark granite, the walls were painted a soft light blue, dressers and a mirror sat against the left wall, and an archway that led to a bathroom. The room was very soothing, but inside Sesshomaru was raging with a fierce anger, and he could not explain it to himself on why he was feeling like this. It made no sense and if it was one thing Sesshomaru despised it was being confused.
Whirling on Funaki, Sesshomaru glared. “You, go down to where the slaves stay, I have no need of you.” He commanded coolly, Funaki bowed and looked towards Kagome who smiled at him, a soft almost unnoticeable growl pushed its way out of Sesshomaru. “Stop wasting my time, get going.” He interrupted the silent exchange between the slave girl and boy, whose eyes widened as he quickly escaped the room with his life still intact.
Turning on Kagome she swallowed hard seeing a definite anger burning in Sesshomaru's usually cold, golden eyes. He stalked right up to her and Kagome backed up against the wall, holding her hands up in front of her defensively. She was ashamed to admit it, but she was very afraid of this Youkai, he was the only one that could bring out the worst fear from inside her. She wondered what she had done? He was so mad he was probably going to strike her, but why?
Why was everyone else privileged with a smile or a friendly look from this girl? He, Sesshomaru should receive the same treatment, no, not the same. Better treatment, he was her master, the one in charge of her very life, which he could end in a split second if he wanted too. “I am a stupid human,” He said, cold and distant. “Repeat it!” He shouted.
She squeaked loudly, her mouth gaping open like a fish, he wanted her to say what?
Sesshomaru stepped closer, his right foot landing only millimeters from hers. “Say it!” He snarled in her face.
Kagome's eyes were wide with panic. “I—I am a stupid human.” Her voice quivered with her fear. She saw his eyes close briefly and then open again.
“I am disgusting and worthless.” Sesshomaru said. “Repeat that, now.” His tone left no room for arguing.
Taking a deep breath, trying to still her fear yet it wasn't working. “I—I am d—disgusting and worthless.” She couldn't help it, wetness started swelling in her eyes.
Sesshomaru caught the light scent of salt, he looked at her, really looked at her. There were tears forming in her eyes, seeing them caused another unfamiliar feeling to erupt in him, but it was just making him angrier, all these weird emotions bubbling up. It was pathetic. “Stop that,” He ordered.
Somehow Kagome knew what he was talking about, but there was no way she could. “I—I can't.”
His hand came down hard smashing against the wall by her head and Kagome jolted, turning her face away. “Now!”
Kagome squeezed her eyes shut, taking a couple of deep breaths. She tried she really did. “It's not something I can control, when it happens it just happens.” She tried reasoning, hopefully he understood.
“Weak and pathetic, you are the most ridiculous human that ever walked the face of the Earth, you low class, repulsive girl.” He said smoothly, while backing away from her personal space.
When Kagome opened her eyes, Sesshomaru was across the room, standing before the door with his back was to her. “My clothing and other supplies better be put away by the time I return, or there will be consequences. I am not in a forgiving mood this day, human. I suggest you do not try my patience.” And with that he opened the door and disappeared through it, closing it surprisingly softly behind him.
Kagome felt nauseous as she sank to the floor, her legs were shaking terribly from her fright. Why, why was this happening to her? What could she have done to bring on his rush of anger? She had been behaving so well. Kagome hoped that this was not how it was going to be for the next two weeks, she didn't know if she could live through it.
Sesshomaru found his way down to the bar and sat down to have a drink, he had lost his head back there. What a disgrace, he had never behaved so irrationally before. That worthless girl was the cause of all of this. Boy, he recalled that scent, the scent of that girl's fear was intoxicating, he had never caught the scent of anything so sweet before. But did she have to go and ruin it by showing her weak emotions like that? Utter ridiculous, pathetic even. He sat down at the bar and ordered something heavy, what he wouldn't really drink at home when something silver caught the corner of his eye and he shifted in his seat, finding his half brother Inuyasha checking in. Great, now his vacation was just perfect. He thought sarcastically and immediately downed the red wine mixed with some kind of animal blood concoction.

It had been at least an hour since Kagome had seen Sesshomaru, she was scared to death of him that as soon as he left she took to taking are of his stuff. Kagome had finished putting his belongings away, his clothing all hung up in the nice closet, his bathroom supplies all decorated nicely on the sink, and the heavenly scented bath soaps all pretty and nice. She had walked around the room, checking it out making sure everything was in working order. She found what was her bedding in the corner on the floor, next to the far wall. The floor, ugh…how terribly uncomfortable.
Kneeling down she pushed on the bedding and gasped, it was soft! The blankets even felt full and thick! Grinning, she threw herself on her pile and sighed as her front was met with the softest futon she had ever felt, she rolled over on her back, smiling up at the ceiling and finally letting out loud laughter, which seemed to relieve all the tension in her body.
She was breathing hard, trying to calm down from her recent laughing fit, and got to her feet once more. Kagome approached the French doors that led out onto the veranda, she pushed them open, hearing many, many voices, she stepped out onto smooth gray stone, there was a small retaining wall that Kagome walked to, leaning her elbows on the stone looking out on the grassy lawn, just beyond the lawn was the ocean, where she could hear the seagulls and other sounds of the seaside. Closing her eyes she let the pleasant sounds wash over her like a warm blanket.
“Hello!” A woman's voice yelled and Kagome looked to her left and saw a young lady waving. “Who's master is yours?” She asked.
Kagome moved over to the left side of the wall. “Sesshomaru is my…ugh, master.” She said with a hint of annoyance then smiled brightly. “My name's Kagome.”
The woman smiled. “It's nice to meet you Kagome. I'm Xian-Li.” She tilted her head a bit. “My master is Lord Chen, we came all the way from China.”
“It looks like we'll be neighbors.” Kagome was surprised at how friendly this woman was. She looked along the other walls of the rooms and found other humans doing work most likely chores, they were all talking and laughing amongst themselves, it sounded very busy.”
“Kagome!” Hearing Miroku's voice, which was a surprise, Kagome head snapped around and saw Miroku walking across the lawn with Inuyasha, who smiled and waved lightly at her. They passed by other slaves and Youkai and their families and walked right up to her wall.
Kagome blinked. “Miroku? What are you doing here?” She asked with a smile. “I assumed Lord Inuyasha here would bring Sango with him.”
Inuyasha grumbled and shoved his hands in the pockets of his dark slacks, looking away from her, a faint blush spreading across his nose.
Noticing his blush, Kagome wondered what was going on. “Lord Inuyasha, what's the matter?”
“Don't call me Lord, Kagome. I hate that.” He growled out seeing her shrug. Of course that's not the reason he was blushing. “I'm going to go for a walk.” And feeling as if the open air was going suddenly suck him up, he dashed away.
“What's his rush?” Kagome asked Miroku, who sat on the edge of the wall.
Miroku was smirking that all knowing smirk. “I have some information that I think you will most definitely be interested in.” He crossed his arms against his chest.
“I know that look, what do you have Miroku?” The right side of Kagome's mouth curved slightly. “Come on spill it, don't keep me waiting.”
“The reason why I am in Sango's place here, is relatively a simple concept.” He cleared his throat and leaned closer to Kagome. “I know you have not been down in the Slave's Den for about a week, but during that time Sango has been very ill in the mornings, and it was confirmed last night when I made her go to the hospital wing to get something for what I thought was just a weird virus.” He leaned even closer to her. “But it turns out that our dear friend Sango is going to be having a baby.”
Kagome's jaw dropped in complete shock, her hands flying up covering her mouth, “Oh my goodness!”
“So that is why she couldn't come on this trip with Inuyasha, she has to stay and have other examinations and stuff that I don't know too much about.”
“Are you serious?!” Kagome nearly shrieked.
“Indeed I am, quite the news isn't it?”
Pushing back a stray strand of hair behind her ear, Kagome sat down on the wall's edge as well. “How is everyone taking the news, what about the… you know, big group?”
Miroku's brows creased as he thought about it. “No one else knows yet, well no one except me and Inuyasha, and Sango of course, well now you.”
Kagome shook her head in amusement, her voice then tripping with loud excitement. “Oh my gosh! Inuyasha is going to be a daddy! I can't believe it!”
“Why don't you say it a little louder, I don't think they heard you in BRAZIL!!” Inuyasha shouted sarcastically from where he was standing out on the lawn, which caused both Miroku and Kagome to laugh and snicker. They saw their friend pout and look away from them which in turn caused the pair to bust up with laughter once more.
“I need a snack!” Inuyasha suddenly said, Miroku looked over at him and nodded.
“Fine,” Turning back to Kagome one last time, Miroku smiled. “Well, I'll see ya around Kagome, try and stay out of trouble.” He glanced down at her backside and gave it a quick grope, of course earning a gasp and growl from the tempting young female. Then leaping off the wall before Kagome had a chance to smack him, Miroku chuckled while running after Inuyasha.
“Why that no good, dirty pervert.” She sounded more amused to herself rather than angry, she was interrupted in her rant with a very safe and innocent sensation, causing all her anger to evaporate.
The feeling of utter tranquility seemed to surround Kagome, the soft white of inner peace enveloping her. Kagome felt so light and easy, what a pure essence. Looking around in all directions her gaze finally found the top of a dark head, the hair of a small human was pulled up onto one side, and two small curious dark eyes along with a cute button nose looking over the rim of the wall at her. Kagome stepped a little closer to the wall with hopefully a comforting smile on her face. “Hello.”
Small fingers and a hand came up over the wall and waved. “Hi.” The little girl said shyly.
Coming to stand next to the wall completely, she looked over the edge and saw a little girl that squatted down behind the wall, her eyes still glued to Kagome's. The little girl was wearing rags, which looked like an old torn kimono, it was dark blue. Kagome could tell that she was a human child and not Youkai. Feeling the girl's ki was amazing, so pure, and so light. “What's your name?”
“Rin.” The girl said, then standing up slowly looking at Kagome warily. “I—I didn't mean to spy on you, but I saw and felt you in the lobby, so I followed you. Please don't be mad.”
Kagome smiled. “Mad? Why would I be mad?”
“Master Kensuke doesn't like it when I am curious.” Rin sniffled, and started pulling lightly at the hair that wasn't tied up on the side of her head. “So don't tell, okay?” She grinned and Kagome found she was missing her top left front tooth, it made the little girl seem all that more adorable.
“Don't you worry, Rin. I won't tell, I'm good at keeping secrets.”
Laughing sweetly, Rin spun around. “Yay!” She sounded so excited. “I didn't realize that there were others that feel like me, so I had to find and see you. I followed the feelings that resembled mine all the way here.”
“What do you mean, feel like you?”
Shrugging, Rin tugged on the hem of her kimono. “I don't know, I just feel. Like a superhero's super power I guess.”
Kagome stood awe struck, is this…the one? Is this who they have been searching for all this time? Kagome did not expect the one to be a little girl, this would need some careful deduction, they could not afford to be wrong in this, Kagome silently vowed that she must get to know this little girl a lot better. Their whole future could very well depend on it.
