A Story about a Boy and Girl

I'll always remember the first day that I met him, the day when my life started to include him.

 

1995 Tokyo, Japan:

 

It was a bright summer afternoon and mom let me go to the park across the street. It was a big deal to me because now I was six, big enough to cross the street and old enough to go to the park on my own. I took caution and looked both ways pushed the crossing button and made my way. I steeped foot on the nice clean cut grass and inhaled the sent of whatever the breeze brought with it.

 

I started picking my way threw my usual paths. I'd found hidden little paradises for myself where I would play and no one else knew about them not even my two best friends in the world! One of my favorite places was a clearing I found behind a couple of bushes that had a small running spring and a lot of wild flowers. I spent my time there laying down in the shade hearing the water trickle down and the wind blowing threw the bushes. I thought I'd stayed a good while and decided to move on towards the playground in hopes of finding my friends.

 

I neared the swings and found a boy sitting there all alone. I approached the boy and sat in the swing next to him. It startled him, I guess, that someone had bothered to sit next to him.

 

“Why are you sitting here all by yourself? Don't you got any friends?”

 

“No…I just moved here with my mom and brother.” The boy said kicking at the dirt on the ground.

 

“Well why don't we play together? I know this really neat spot that I never-ever told anyone about.” I said.

 

He looked up at me with questioning eyes…his eyes. If there's anything I remember about our first meeting it was how beautiful his eyes were. They were a deep and rich gold that danced with the suns reflection and as I later saw clouded over to almost pitch black. I grabbed his hand and pulled him along. We soon neared the bushes and the clearing that followed.

 

“Now you got to promise to never-ever tell anyone about this ok?”

 

“Ok…”

 

“Pinky promise!” I said extending my pinky out to him.

 

He looked at me with those eyes I had come to love almost instantly and curled his pinky over mine. With the never breaking promise made I made way threw the bushes and brought the one and only other person besides myself into my secret place. I stood proud for my discovery as he looked around in amazement. He looked at me and smiled and I smiled back at him.

 

“Wow, you found this place all on your own?” He asked.

 

“Yup and you're the first ever person I ever brought here! Look come over here.” I said pulling him along towards the spring. “Sometimes there are these lil things that swim around in here and I like to catch them. My mommy told me they were tadpoles and that they turn to big ugly frogs.”

 

“Wow no way!”

 

“Yup! So what's your name?”

 

“My names Inuyasha Kiryu.” He said puffing out his chest.

 

“Inuyasha? My names Kagome Higurashi, lets be friends ok?”

 

“Ok!”

 

“Inuyasha!”

 

“That's my mom I gots to go.” He said.

 

“Ok come back here tomorrow after lunch time so we can play.”

 

“Ok, see ya Kagome.”

 

I watched from behind the bushes as he ran to his mother. I knew in my heart that this was the start of a long friendship. A friendship I would come to treasure and I boy I would come to love. I boy I would come to share all my secrets with. A boy I would later see become a man.

 

 

And that's how I met him. That's how I met Inuyasha Kiryu. And this is the story of our friendship.
