Inuyasha stood up land surveyed the battlefield. Miroku was hold Sango as she wept over her brother's body. Kagome held Shippou and were sitting next to Kouga, trying to wrap up his injured legs. Naraku had completed the jewel during the battle but with the arrival of Kikyo and then Kouga and Sesshoumaru they were able to stall him long enough for both Kagome and Kikyo to release their arrows at him. Twining together they pierce Naraku. He simply shattered in a cloud of miasma; Kagura and Kanna took off along with the rest of the hoard. There was no love lost there.

 

`Kikyo.' Inuyasha thought. `Have you come for me?' With the jewel complete and Naraku dead he could complete his vows and go to hell with her. `It's over.' Just before the final battle Kikyo had shown up and revealed all of Naraku's plans. Inuyasha knew that she had come to warn him so that they could be together afterwards. `I'm free now.' He thought giving a sad smile at Kagome. `She'll be able to forgive me one day. I know she cares for me, but I'm Kikyo's.' He started walking over to Naraku's body, intending to take the jewel from his corpse. He was surprised to see Sesshoumaru already there. He felt a moment of panic, but relaxed when he remembered that Sesshoumaru considered the jewel beneath him.

 

“Keh, what the hell are you still doing here?” Inuyasha demanded.

 

Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes at the hanyou, before smirking and holding up the jewel. “Interesting little trinket.” His voice intoned, watching his brother's eyes get larger.

 

“Yeah, well, hand it over before you end up like that bastard over there,” he pointed to Naraku.

 

Sesshoumaru's eyes narrowed even further. The smirk was gone. “How about I keep it?”

 

“Yeah and how about I shove Tetsuiga up your ass?” Inuyasha yelled.

 

“Let's make a trade for it,” Sesshoumaru said suddenly. He looked around; none of the others were paying any attention to them despite Inuyasha's outburst.

 

“What are you talking about?” Inuyasha demanded.

 

“Simply a trade, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru smiled.

 

Inuyasha shivered, Sesshoumaru never smiled for a good reason. “What kind of trade? You're not getting Tetsuiga!”

 

“No I'm talking a different kind of trade.” He looked pointedly at Kagome, who was now eyeing them both nervously. Judging by the distance that she couldn't hear them he turned back to Inuyasha who was red with anger.

 

“You aren't gonna lay a hand on Kagome,” he growled.

 

“Come now, brother,” Sesshoumaru hissed. “It's obvious you're going to hell with the undead wench. I take her now and give the jewel to you,” Inuyasha growled louder. “Or, I wish on the jewel for Kagome to be mine. Which do you think she'd prefer?”

 

“Sesshoumaru,” Inuyasha ground out. “You bastard.”

 

“Of course you could always wish for Kikyo to have a new soul. Then she'd come back to life…” Sesshoumaru left the thought trailing and could see Inuyasha turning it over in his mind.

 

`I promised Kikyo to go with her wherever she went. If she stayed alive, we could start a family.' He looked over to Kagome and Sesshoumaru felt a surge of triumph.

 

“Why do you want Kagome?” Inuyasha asked at last.

 

“It is none of your business what this Sesshoumaru will do with her.”

 

“Wrong again,” Inuyasha gave a slight growl. “If I give her up I want to know exactly what she'll be facing. I promised to protect her too.”

 

“Hnnnn, a promise you no doubt failed over and again.” Inuyasha bared his teeth and growled even louder, catching the attention of Miroku and Kikyo this time. “Calm yourself brother. I merely wish for a tutor for Rin.”

 

“And after she is grown?”

 

“Well aren't you thinking ahead for once in your life. She will be allowed to stay or leave depending on her wish.”

 

Inuyasha thought it over in his head. With the jewel complete he didn't know if the well would still work. She had already mentioned that she wanted to stay in this time anyway.

 

“Give me the Jewel.” Inuyasha said reaching out his hand.

 

“And our bargain?” Sesshoumaru asked.

 

“Deal.”

 

Sesshoumaru handed the Shikon no Tama to Inuyasha who strode over to Kagome. “Here,” he said dropping it on her lap. “Purify it.”

 

Kagome did as he asked, holding it between her hands and focusing on it. The jewel turned white. Kouga growled from the ground as Inuyasha looked down on him.

 

`I smell some thing deceptive,' Kouga thought. “Hey mutt face!” Kouga called. “What're you gonna wish for.”

 

Inuyasha growled back, “Maybe I should wish for you to shut up! Then I won't have to hear you're damned voice.”

 

“Then you will not go with me, Inuyasha?” Kikyo's voice intoned.

 

Kagome gave a small gasp, but remained silent. `It's his choice!' She reminded herself. Didn't make it any easier though.

 

She gave the now purified Shikon back to Inuyasha and stood up. “What will you wish for?” She asked not quite meeting his eyes.

 

He held the Jewel up, “I wish for Kikyo to have a new soul and body!”

 

Both Kagome and Kikyo gasped. The Shikon shot towards Kikyo and a ball of light surrounded. She screamed as the souls she trapped were released and shot into the heavens. One ball of light rushed towards and struck Kagome in the chest, knocking her to her feet and unconscious.

 

Then as suddenly as it had started, it was over. A stunned Kikyo was being helped to her feet by Inuyasha, and the Shikon no Tama had disappeared.

 

Sesshoumaru came over with a look of triumph on his face. “I'll be leaving now.” He swooped down and pick up Kagome with his arm and started to walk away.

 

“HEY!” Yelled Shippou. “PUT MY OKAA-SAN DOWN!!”

 

He raced towards Sesshoumaru and sunk his fangs into his ankle. Sango and Miroku were running over barely able to believe what had transpired or the fact that Inuyasha was letting Sesshoumaru take her.

 

Inuyasha called out to Sesshoumaru. “Oh yeah, the kit's her's too so you'll have to take him as well.”

 

Sesshoumaru glared at the kit. “If you want to go with your Okaa-san you will show me proper respect.”

 

Shippou release Sesshoumaru's ankle confused and horrified. He looked back at Inuyasha who was still standing next to Kikyo. “You're not going to save her?” Shippou asked.

 

Sesshoumaru started walking again. “No he's not.” He answered the kit as he continued towards the forest, and Ah-Un.
