Chapter Two:
“Kouga!” Kagome shouted for what seemed to be the zillionth time.
The poor girl had been running for hours, and there was still no sign of the Wolf Prince anywhere. “Kouga!” She stopped to catch her breath for the second time that night.
`Okay, Kagome. No more running in circles. Why don't you use your brain for once?' She silently scolded herself. `Now if I were a wolf, where would I be?' Kagome wasted a few more moments pondering on her last thought before her stomach suddenly protested its hunger.
“Oh, great.” She muttered miserably. “I should have at least eaten a little bit of my dinner before I came running out here without any leads at all...” She sighed, defeated, as her stomach growled yet again. “And no backpack, which means no food…”
Sitting down on the grassy floor, she gazed up at the stars, hoping to glimpse a shooting star. A few minutes passed and she flopped on her back with a hopeless sigh.
“Oh, well. I've never really heard of wishing on the moon before, but here goes nothing…” She shut her eyes tightly and thought of Kouga and all the places he could possibly be. Star-er I mean Moon…oh whatever…Starlight, Star bright, biggest star I see tonight. Literally. Wish I may, wish I might, Have the wish I wish tonight.
“Please let me find him.” She whispered, clasping her arms tightly to her heart. The wind gently blew her hair about her face as she shut her eyes and repeated the wish in her mind.
Her thoughts swayed to the first time she had met the enchanting wolf demon. Of the first time he told her he loved her. She had slapped him, but deep inside her mind…it felt good to hear him say that. To be loved was an amazing thing. She had always hoped Inuyasha would be the first one to tell her those three simple words.
She had seen it in her imagination over and over again. They would have been sitting by a waterfall, a rainbow shining brightly at them just above the cascading falls . He would have leaned closer and whispered, “I love you, Kagome. I always have.” And then he would have kissed her.
She sighed, silently dismissing the thought. Kagome knew that that would never happen. She also knew that Inuyasha was still in love with Kikyo, no matter how many times he denied it. She had been hurt so many times because of his love for the dead miko, yet here she was doing the same exact thing with Kouga. Now he had been hurt the same way she was over and over again. She knew how it felt, and she didn't want her friend to experience the same pain because of her. Kagome shivered as the wind blew harder, wrapping her arms around her shoulders, hoping to conceal some warmth.

From the cavernous depths of the wolf den, two cerulean eyes snapped open. The wind blew in through the mouth of the cave and seemed to stop when it reached his face. He stood quickly, not wishing to waste any time. He knew that scent like the back of his hand, but this time it was missing something- the stench of dog. Kagome was out there, alone and unprotected. He knew what the forest was like at night. And he wasn't about to let her get in harm's way.
