"Kouga, I love you, you know I do…but where is this going?" Kagome asked, her eyes searching his for answers.

"I'm getting to that, Kagome, I love you, I know I've told you a million times but that doesn't make it any less true." He paused for a second & sighed, "which is why… if you're certain you won't let me mark you?" she nodded "will you marry me, Kagome Higurashi?"

Kagome stayed silent for a very long time, listening to the breaking waves & wondering, just wondering how this could work…it wasn't like her grandpa was going to let him move in with them & lets face it, Kouga's mother didn't exactly love kagome, in fact, she wouldn't even allow her to enter their house, let alone marry her son… "Kouga…I…I don't know"

"Kagome?"

"I mean, don't get me wrong, I love you, you know I do, more than anything in the world…but I'm not sure I'm ready to be bound to one person for the rest of my life…even if it is just by law"

Kouga sighed, he had expected as much, in all truth he didn't even want a human wedding, he just thought it might convince kagome to let him mark her as his the demon way…but still…it might've been nice, having everyone know that we belong to each other he thought "kagome, I kind of expected that, but still, we can pretend cant we? Just for a little while?" he ended with his hand holding hers, his deep, watery brown eyes locked into her violet ones. He looked so sad then & it was all kagome could do to wrap her arms around him, burry her face in his neck & whisper "for however long you want"

They stayed there for what seemed like hours, until the sky started to cloud over & raindrops began to fall masking the ones that fell from kagome's eyes I can't leave him she thought it'd kill me…crap I just stepped in dog shit she scraped the aforementioned shit on a near by log & ran to catch up with Koga. They walked out to the parking lot & as they were getting on Koga's bike he pulled a small black box from his leather jacket's pocket & took kagome by the hand "it's nothin much" he said looking deep into her eyes "but I think you'll like it…." he opened the box to reveal a silver skull on a ring with deep blue gem-stone eyes, kagome was aghast, this was the ring she'd always wanted, every time she passed it in her favorite everything shop she always paused to try it on…but even on sale it was way, way too pricey for her to even think about buying. She reached out tentatively as if it were a mirage, but as her hand touched the cold silver of the skull & she felt the sharp points of the teeth rolling beneath her fingers she knew this was not a dream, it was hers…the only ring she'd ever really wanted…& it was hers! She slowly slid the cold silver circlet onto her ring finger, admiring the way it seemed to be made just for her "oh, Koga! It's perfect!" she said gleefully as she threw her arms around his neck & he, laughing, started spinning her in circles. Koga set her down on the back of his bike & got on himself, they sped off without another word.

It took the rest of the afternoon, but they were finally on their way, kagome was driving the U-hall behind her mother's station wagon & no one was around to protest so she was blaring her favorite weird Al Yankovich CD & singing along to `everything you know is wrong' at the top of her lungs, as best she could with a camel in her mouth.

"I was driving on the freeway in the fast-lane with a rabid wolverine in my underwear

When suddenly a guy behind me in the backseat popped right up

& Stuck his hands across my eyes,

I guessed is it uncle frank? Or cousin Louie? Is it bob or Joe or Walter? Could it be bill or Jim or Ed or Burney or Steve?

I probably would've kept on guessing but about that time we crashed into the truck

& As I'm lying bleeding there on the asphalt finally I recognize the face of my hibachi dealer who takes off his prosthetic limbs & tells me:

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!

BLACK IS WHITE!

UP IS DOWN!

& SHORT IS LONG!

& Everything you thought was just so important doesn't matter!

Everything you know is wrong

Just forget the words & sing along

All you need to understand is

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!

I was walking to the kitchen for some golden grams

When I accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension

& Soon I was abducted by some aliens from space that kinda looked like Jamey Far

They took out my internal organs

& Took some Polaroid's & said I was a darn good sport

& As a way of saying thank you they offered to send me back to any point in history that I should care to go

& So I had them take me back to last Thursday night so I could pay my phone bill on time

Just as the floating disembodied head of colonel sanders started yelling:

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!

BLACK IS WHITE!

UP IS DOWN!

& SHORT IS LONG!

& Everything you thought was just so important doesn't matter!

Everything you know is wrong

Just forget the words & sing along

All you need to understand is

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!

I was just about to mail a letter to my evil twin when I got a nasty paper cut

& To make a long story short it got infected & I died

So now I'm up in heaven at the pearly gates with saint peter

& It's obvious he doesn't like the Nero jacket that I'm wearing

He tells me that they've got a dress code

Well he lets me into heaven anyway but I get the room next to the noisy ice machine for all eternity

& Every day he runs by screaming:

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!

BLACK IS WHITE!

UP IS DOWN!

& SHORT IS LONG!

& Everything you thought was just so important doesn't matter!

Everything you know is wrong

Just forget the words & sing along

All you need to understand is

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!"

She finished the song panting for breath as she pulled up to a stoplight & cracked her neck `this is going to be a really long day' she thought, her grandpa wasn't exactly the easiest person in the world to get along with, he was so obsessed with the ancient monks who vanquished mighty demons with their sutras & warded off evil with just a wave of their hand…of course her grandpa wasn't nearly as powerful as the monks he read about in the family texts & his sutras were ineffective to ANYONE…especially demons, as she'd seen when her grandpa had first met Koga & plastered him from head to foot with the things.

She snickered at the memory of Koga standing there stiff as a board & her grandpa dancing around him shouting "demon be gone!" "demon be gone!" & The look on her grandpa's face as Koga finally realized the sutras were doing nothing more than annoying him & shook them off in a whirlwind of speed…& plastered them all over kagome's grandfather.

The light finally turned green as she made her turn impatiently `I knew I shouldn't have stopped for doughnuts…it made me miss the light' she thought, then remembered the way the young clerk had practically fainted at the sight of her & figured it was worth it…she'd even been able to get a pack of smokes outa him & sense she was from a town where everyone knew her & her family, she didn't get to buy her own very often.

She lost track of time as she guided her way down the familiar roads to the family shrine, before she knew it she was coming up the dirt path that circled around the shrine, built so that her grandparents wouldn't have to climb all the way up the shrine steps with heavy groceries…. not that her grandpa went out much anymore anyway, after her grandma passed away he pretty much cut himself off from the world. But the road was still well worn from the people he paid to deliver him the things he couldn't make at home, so kagome had no trouble maneuvering the old U-hall up it.
