Disclaimer: Okay, starting next chapter, this wittle “disclaimer” thingamajig is gone! Muahaha, take that…Disclaimer…thing.
AN: Yeah, I guess I have some explaining to do on Sesshomaru's character. In the chapter preceding this one, I made it clear that he has…'mood swings'…so to speak. I have always viewed Sesshomaru as a Stoic, but when he is angry, he will show it (C'mon, haven't you guys watched the show?). He isn't ruled by his emotions, so he will never show happy emotions. However, if he is disrespected…all hell will break loose. Kagome only references him to having PMS because one minute he is perfectly fine and stoic, but then he is a total monster. Comprende? ^___^;
On with le show!
Chapter 7: Inadequate
Gracing the hallways with his cold aura, he thought up a schedule for Kagome's stay. He had her wrapped around his finger; she would not be leaving, unless she wanted the company of a hanyou that never let her be Kagome. She could be Kagome with him…and he knew that she would long for that after spending some quality time around his estate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~
Kagome was stunned at the dining hall's beauty. The tapestries that donned the marble walls were of the finest silk, and made her aquamarine silk kimono look like crap. She gracefully floated down the stairs that led into the hall, trying to avoid Sesshomaru's eyes. She didn't want to bare her soul to the golden depths that seemed to find her every insecurity and flaw and scrutinize them. She blinked a couple times, lifting her head up to look at the artwork on the ceiling. Like the dome at the Sistine Chapel…Sugoi…
Someone clearing their throat brought her attention back to the impatient taiyoukai, who was lightly tapping his nail on the marble table. A servant whisked Kagome to her seat all the way on the opposite side of the table, and helped her to the luxurious cushion on the floor. She looked nervously from each servant that set down decadent courses in front of her, trying to avoid looking in the eyes that she knew were roaming over her body, sizing her up and most likely finding her largely inadequate.
Sesshomaru had had enough. “Miko.” Once he had her attention (he could tell when she jumped, dropped her chopsticks and blushed a furious crimson) he began to tell her what her duties would be while she was at his palace. “You will be Rin's caretaker and teach her whatever she wants to learn. However, you shall not teach her of your wanton ways, or unmeet tendencies.” He spat out the words that pierced her heart. She looked down at her food, which was still quite untouched, rose from the table, and sprinted to her room.
Catching her breath, she deemed it smart that she made her escape as quickly as possible before she decided to give the taiyoukai a piece of her mind…which would, in the end, cost her dearly. Closing the shoji door behind her, she sunk down to the floor, her eyes wide with distress. She couldn't handle the verbal abuse…she knew that he was only trying to change her…change her to suit his tastes. He greatly disliked her spirit, her personality. He was just like Inuyasha! Why had everyone around her found her so inadequate?! So base?! Had Sesshomaru found a woman to compare her to, too? She would never escape it…the gods were certainly very cruel to the poor miko.
~~Inuyasha~~
Inuyasha definitely needed one of those nifty stress balls right about now. Once he had found out that after Kagome took off, and Sesshomaru followed her, he had most likely taken her to his place. Shit.
Seeing him deep in thought was a bit unnerving. Chuckling, Kikyo stepped forward to reveal herself. “Koiii…” She said coyly. “What's the matter? Is it that Kagome bitch?”
“Yeah…She was kidnapped by Sesshomaru…I'm worried about her.” Inuyasha replied monotonously.
“But koi, she yelled at you! Come here, I can make it better.” Kikyo purred and let her long hair flow down past her sultry hips as she made her way over to Inuyasha. She had her prize now and the other miko that had only been a substitute for the past 50 years was probably dead at the hand of Sesshomaru himself. She almost chuckled, So the taiyoukai of the West found the bitch annoying, as well? Smirking, wrapped her arms around Inuyasha's broad shoulders, then pushed him to the ground.
Inuyasha quickly brought Kikyo down with him, kissing her while they plummeted to the forest floor. Rolling on top of her, he drew lazy circles with his tongue on her pale neck, not minding that there were no veins beneath the skin, and no warmth radiating off of her body. He roughly ripped open her miko haori, and removed the cloth restricting her ample bosom. Revealing her soft breasts, he immediately attacked them, pulling one taut nipple into his mouth, and teasing the other.
He would be elated if this play would continue, but was interrupted by the call of his so-called companions. The said `companions' were falling apart, all because of the absence of Kagome. She was the glue that kept the group together, but now that she was gone, Inuyasha thought it to be unnecessary to stick together. The stupid ningens only slowed him down in his search for Kagome, even though he deemed it pointless because the unarmed miko had a run-in with the most dangerous youkai known to Japan. He could just see it. Kagome, with her stubborn ways, would overstep the boundary with Sesshomaru, and it would be the end of her. A quick swipe with his poison claws at her incessant stubbornness was envisioned by Inuyasha as Kagome's untimely demise. However, he wouldn't give up hope. They needed to finish the jewel.
“Koi, I have to go. Please, just follow close behind…the others wanted to cross into the Western Lands now, so I can see you when we make camp.” He kissed her passionately while she made an attempt to close her kimono, but to no avail. She was always paralyzed by his tender kisses that sent her reeling. If she was living, she would be blushing, but she had no blood within her clay bones.
“Hai, Inuyasha…I'll see you tonight.”
~~Kagome~~
After crying out of pure anguish for her luck, she had all but passed out onto her futon, waiting for Sesshomaru to come and inflict pain upon her being for leaving so rudely. She couldn't handle it when he had labeled her as Inuyasha had. She was almost ecstatic when Sesshomaru showed her his tender side, but was dually surprised when he had closed the door to her heart. She had no one in this world, but she still had her duty to the people of this world. She screwed things up, but she would set things right and leave. Leave the Sengoku Jidai behind, and the companions that had loved her even though she put them through hell.
A rough jerk awakened her. Startled, she looked into golden depths.
“Sesshomaru…I-I…gomen…”
“You should be, wench. Imagine if guests had been dining at the same time as your little fiasco! I would not be so lenient then, little miko.” He watched as his words caused tears to spring to her eyes. Was that all he was? Another person in her life that only brought her pain? He, Sesshomaru, for the first time in his life, was ashamed. What a way to kick a dog when it's down… Before he let the emotion show in his face, he turned away. “Rin is waiting for you in the library. I expect you to freshen up, then being her lessons. Afterwards, I wish for you to see me in my personal study. I will send a servant to fetch you.” Leaving as quickly as he had come, he disappeared in a white blur.
~~
Sitting with Rin on large pillows that were strewn across the library, Kagome read famous Japanese legends of princesses and youkais alike. She found it amusing that this was almost like a fairy tale…she was apart of some big legend. Rin also found the stories of valiant warriors and beautiful maidens to be very entertaining, secretly wishing that she was a princess, about to be married to a handsome lord.
Just when Kagome had started getting into the mythological story, a sharp tap came at the door. “Milady, Sesshomaru-sama wishes for your presence within his study.”
“We can finish this tomorrow, kay, Rin?” Getting up from the comfy pillow, she threw a smile back at the adorable little girl, and was glad that she would be spending each afternoon with her.
She followed behind the neko youkai, who led her up a handful of twisting staircases, through enormous halls, and past elaborate doors that enclosed God-knows-what. Coming across a huge doorway that she could swear Sesshomaru's true form could fit through. After marveling at the woodwork, she realized that the servant had left her to fend for herself. Throwing caution to the wind, she pushed the big oak doors open and let herself in, amazed at the rows of books that adorned the walls. However, while she was looking around the room, she didn't notice the irritated youkai standing in front of her. She bumped into him, and accidentally stepped on his toe, causing him to growl.
“Eep!” She jumped back, but was held back by the circle of his arms around her waist. She was scared…it wasn't smart to bump into a very dangerous youkai, and it wasn't good boding to be trapped by him. She was startled when he heard a low growl, that seemed to calm her down immensely.
They stayed like that for a while…miko gazing into youkai eyes. And a youkai feeling unfamiliar emotions course through him as he held her close. Cerulean met gold once more before their lips touched for the briefest moment. “You…know not what you do to me miko.” Sesshomaru said against her soft pink lips.
~~
Kagome sat under a tree in Sesshomaru's beautiful gardens after she gave Rin her daily lessons. Asking to be alone from the small girl, she escaped the palace and found comfort in his gardens. She was still confused by his actions in his library, and found herself touching her lips every now and then, reminding herself that it was probably nothing. Sesshomaru wasn't like that…especially around humans.
Kagome was like that when he had found her, surrounded by sakura blossoms. She looked stunning, wearing a light pink kimono that set off her azure eyes. Her raven hair blew lightly with the cool breeze, and allowed him to see her pretty face. She was touching her lips again. She probably couldn't comprehend the reasons behind his actions…and didn't plan on telling her. Walking over to her, he sat next to her, and lightly tapped her arm. She obviously wasn't alert, or she would have sensed Sesshomaru's youkai aura. Instead she was very deep in thought, and her eyes had a glazed look.
“S-Sesshomaru…gomen, I was just thinking.” Kagome turned to look at him and all of his beauty. His eyes were stern, but his features softened by the light wispiness of his silver hair.
“It's alright, miko. I only wanted to let you know that I will be waking you early tomorrow morning. You start your training at dawn.”
“Training?! Who says I have to have training?!” Kagome was insulted. She could fend for herself! She certainly made this clear as her stubbornness was exerted, but Sesshomaru would hear none of it.
“Do you think you can take on the most vile hanyou by yourself and without any training, no less?” With that, Sesshomaru turned to leave, but his wrist was caught by a soft, small hand. “Gomen, Sesshomaru-sama…but, who will be training me?” Her voice was too timid for her liking.
“Me, miko. I will see you in the morning.”
