Chapter 17: Machinations-Good and Evil

 

Snaking her arm around his neck, she rested her hand on the back of his head and drew him in for a passionate and desperate kiss, hooking her leg around his waist at the same time. Her eyes bled red as new arousal and need coursed into her, and caused her to do things that she would never have done with a sane mind. Her hand found Sesshomaru's hip and, with soft butterfly touches, she found his erection and held it in her hand, teasing it based upon his reactions.

 

Sesshomaru drew back to look into her eyes, and took her hand away from his…nether regions. His eyes looked surprised for a little bit, but then he smirked and a glint of mischief arose to the golden depths. “Kagome…you're in heat.”

Kagome gasped when Sesshomaru had leaked this little tidbit of information to her, and blushed suddenly when she realized that this is why she was so aroused by his simple touches. She drew back, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “What does this mean to youkai?”

 

“It means that you'll be wanting to mate constantly, which will no doubt end in your pregnancy.” Kagome's eyes widened. Once she went into her lust crazes…she would be a mother! Her eyes brightened when the thought sprang to her mind. She had always thought that Inuyasha would be telling her this, but then again…ever since he had disclosed his true feelings for her, he was dead to her. She had Sesshomaru now, and she wouldn't let him slide through her fingers as Inuyasha had.

 

Kagome smirked, and ran her fingers through Sesshomaru's silken hair, purring as she did so. She laughed as this simple act caused his eyes to slip shut, and his lips to curl up into a gleeful grin. Kissing him lightly, she pulled him down on top of her naked body, (AN: I hope you guys remember the last steamy chapter. That's why she's still naked…^___^) and began to thrust her hips up in to the air to meet his. He moaned against her lips and ran his hands down her sides, sending little sparks of pleasure up her spine. She gasped when he fondled her sensitive spot, and brought him in for another mind-shattering kiss.

 

The two continued their playful banter under the canopy of the trees, glad that they had each other, and that nothing would come between them.

A long ways away the Southern Lord, Hideki, mobilized his troops, making sure that his army was of only the toughest, strongest, most ruthless youkai in the land. He smirked as he saw his soldiers suit up for the march against the Western Lands, bent on destroying the cocky taiyoukai of the West, Sesshomaru. Heck, the petite and beautiful little vixen that he had taken for a mate would also make a good prize as well…even if she was a filthy ningen not too long ago. Tapping his fingers idly on the wrought-iron balustrade, he whipped his black hair over his shoulder, and adjusted his gleaming armor over his muscled body. The Western Lord had not only irked, humiliated, and just plain rubbed him the wrong way, but he had ALSO taken a human wench as his whore…he deserved to be on Hideki's hit list, and the Western Land would soon be his.

 

“Oi! Yaru!” He called to his top assassin. “Are the troops ready?” Yaru quickly jogged over to Hideki and promptly bowed before his balcony, looking up at him while he spoke. “Hai, my lord. I will go on ahead in order to take the Lady out of the palace safely.”

 

“Good. We leave now.” Hideki chuckled as he imagined the look on Sesshomaru's face when his little whore would be missing.

Kagome woke up groggily, quickly remembering last night's activities. (AN: I'm just going to say that they went to the palace to continue things…^__^) Her lust had been easily satiated… `Sesshomaru…was…' She blushed. `Wow.' She shifted in order to face him while still wrapping his arms around her, and kissed him softly on the nose. When she did so, he grabbed her chin and pulled her in for a kiss.

 

“I never said you could kiss me in my sleep.” Kagome blushed.

 

“How long have you been awake?”

 

“Since dawn.” Sesshomaru chuckled and kissed her again, lazily rolling on top of her while tracing his finger down her side. “Kagome…”

 

“Hai, Sesshomaru?” Kagome's eyes filled with worry, and her hands went up to his face.

 

“You are with child.” Kagome gasped and then started laughing. She embraced Sesshomaru, bringing him down on top of her, and cried into his shoulder. He kissed her cheek while she shook under him, crying happily that she was to be a mother.

 

“…Arigato, Sessho.” She smiled up at him before he passionately kissed her, rolling so that she was on top of him. “And arigato to you, koi. Mother of my pups.” Kagome giggled, and then got off of him to get dressed. “Hm…I don't believe that I allowed you to get dressed yet.” Sesshomaru growled at her, embracing her from behind and lightly puncturing his mating mark. He laughed as she moaned and slipped against him, like ice melting to a flame. Taking in her sweet scent for a moment, he released her and proceeded to get dressed as well.

 

“Kagome, I want you to always be with a servant or someone in the palace. You are pregnant and in heat…and I am expecting battles with the Southern Lord very shortly. It is imperative that you are always alert and aware of your surroundings. Understand?” Kagome nodded, suddenly fearful for her pup and her life. The Southern Lord had declared war on Sesshomaru only because he had taken a human mate, and would not back down as they warred against each other. Her eyebrows knit in confusion as she thought of the soldiers that would be dying for such a childish and stupid cause. It would be her fault... “Sesshomaru…Would it be possible for me to travel with you?” Again, she only thought of others, not herself. Even though she was a beautiful inuyoukai in heat and pregnant, she would not allow others to risk their lives fruitlessly for the sake of hers.

 

“Unacceptable. You will not be coming with me. Do you think I'm crazy?” He grabbed her by the shoulders, tensing for a minute, then relaxed and inhaled her calming scent. “Kagome…onegai, you have to understand. I do know it is in your nature to care, to be maternal, but I cannot lose you for the life of me.” A single tear escaped her soggy eyes when he stated this, and she hugged him.

 

“I understand, Sesshomaru.” However, this did not mean she would listen. Her heat cycle was on the decline now, so she didn't understand why she couldn't just wait for him to go on his war campaign, sneak out, and handle some of the Southern Lord's impertinence herself. She smirked against his shoulder and began to put her plans to work. Turning on her heel when Sesshomaru left the room, she quickly looked over her shoulder to make sure he wasn't in close proximity to the door, or lurking in the hallways. Grabbing a cloth satchel, she stuffed some miko garb into the pockets, and also made herself a small first aid kit just in case. She made a mental note to grab a bow and a quiver full of arrows as well as a few days' provisions.

 

She hid all of this in the small armoire that housed all of her kimonos, and it was easily disguised by the array of silks. Letting out pent up oxygen, she steeled her nerves and hoped to whatever gods that would listen that Sesshomaru wouldn't discover it before he had to leave. Kagome felt terrible that she would be disobeying him, but he couldn't expect her to be a perfect submissive mate. Kagome wasn't like that. With determination in her heart she set off to find Rin and spend some time with the adorable girl before she would have to leave her.

“Okaa-san! No fair!” Rin shouted through her incessant giggling as they bounded through the hills, playing a game of tag. Kagome had easily tagged Rin when she was busy picking flowers, and now Rin was chasing Kagome throughout the castle grounds and through the boughs of wildflowers. Their laughter was music to anyone's ears, filling the sunny day with even more brightness.

 

Although they were having fun, Kagome was also intensely alert, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end whenever she heard something that was out of the ordinary. However, she had plenty of help as the gardeners patrolled the area, keeping careful watch over the mother and daughter of the palace.

 

Crestfallen, Kagome thought of where Sesshomaru was, though he was probably pent up in his studies going over boring strategies for the battle. She sighed and ran her claws through her bangs, wondering if she could really pull off an escape. Would Sesshomaru think that she had betrayed him? Of course, this wasn't the case, but Sesshomaru might take it the wrong way if he knew his mate had betrayed his trust. Was this the right thing to do?

 

Of course it was, he would understand…she hoped.

During dinner on the night that Sesshomaru would leave for the Southern Lands, Kagome felt abnormally uneasy and riled up. This, she deduced, was probably just a youkai reaction to a mate leaving its partner, and she thought nothing of it. Nervousness rose in her belly as she went over her escape plan, which would use Jaken as a distraction. She chuckled absentmindedly, earning her an inquisitive look from the taiyoukai opposite her, but she just smiled.

 

“Kagome, I trust you'll take good care of Rin, ne?” Kagome gulped at his question and refused to meet his gaze. “Remember, you must be careful, even around the palace.”

 

Even around the palace. Her stomach twisted into knots when she thought of how he put his trust in her, how foolhardy she was being when it came to war, and of Rin. Scowling, she started to question her plan again, but stamped out any doubts that arose in her storming mind. Her ego, existence, and compassion had forced her to create the plan, but her morals, guilt, and love were the things holding her back. She propped her head up on a palm and swished her food around a bit, her eyes clouding over as she weighed the options.

 

If she went, Sesshomaru would not be pleased. If she stayed, people would die. Another sigh.

 

The clearing of someone's throat threw Kagome back into reality, and she gazed up into molten gold orbs. “Gomen…I was just thinking…” She stood and took his hand as he led her out to the gardens.

 

“Kirei…They're beautiful at night…” Kagome whispered as she gazed at the stars and how the moonlight cascaded gracefully over each flower, touching gently on the soft grass.

 

“Hai. All of the Ladies of the Western Lands have enjoyed this. This was a gift to my great-great-great grandmother from her husband when they married. I'm glad that you enjoy it as well.” He smiled down upon her, holding her lightly against him.

 

“Kagome…I will be leaving tonight as you know…” She nodded against his chest, tears threatening to escape from clenched eyelids. “Ai shiteru…Please be safe.” He lifted her chin up and kissed her deeply, sending her into a whirl of passion and nearly knocking her off of her feet. He had put so much love into the simple action and so much passion into his embrace that she seriously doubted interfering with his war.

 

He pulled away when he felt her tears against his cheeks, and pulled her in close, stooping down so that she could fully embrace him. It would be very difficult to leave her, but the Southern Lord would pay for his audacity. Breathing in the scent of her hair, he kissed the top of her head and led her back into the palace.

 

He threw a smile back in her direction and waved, then was off, leaving a distraught, confused, and guilty Kagome behind.

 

 

Oh my god! I'm so sorry about the lateness of this chapter. It was so hard to write…writer's block…and I've had twice as much homework…Argh…I'll try to be more punctual but it's getting difficult. Thanks for all of your inspiring reviews. This is what has kept me going!

Suzano The Princess of Demons: I could have Kagome go for peace negotiations, but I'm making Hideki an arrogant ass. He declared war upon Sesshomaru for only the human reason so to Sesshomaru, peace negotiations are out of the question.

 

Chibimech: I've already explained that Sesshomaru is kind of schizo…He's just trying to convince his rational side to take Kagome as a mate. That's why he had `mood swings' as I like to call them, and wanted to push Kagome away because she was human.
